I based OSMP!Niki's design from Hippocampus, the mythical creature. It's a sea creature that has the upper body of a horse and the lower body of a fish (a literal sea horse, if you will). When coming up with her design, I couldn't decide whether I should give her legs or a mermaid tail. But then it got me thinking, "what if I did both?" And so I did and took inspiration from Hippocampus.

My hc is that Niki can walk on land with her hoofs, but struggles a lot as it isn't her usual territory. Hence why she'd spent most of her time in the sea (aside from the not being able to breathe on air).

The Big Long DSMPblr Tagging Guide

i heard there were a lot of new people coming in from twitter so i thought id finally make the big long tag guide

FIRST THINGS FIRST, never ever tag #mine/craft. never tag anything that includes the word mine/craft either (this includes #mine/craft youtubers and #philza mine/craft). the mine/craft tag is for the game itself, they want to see build inspo and talk about the game itself. they do not want to see mcyt art. (the same goes for the #mine/blr tag)

SECONDLY, dont crosstag. crosstagging is usually defined as tagging characters that arent in any way relevant to your post (ex. tagging #tommyinnit in a post about the syndicate). its a rude thing to do and will clog up the tag and make it harder for people to find posts that are actually about the character. it wont give your post more exposure it will just annoy people.

THIRDLY, when you want to add a trigger warning into your post put it in the tags. tumblrs filtering system can easily filter out posts tagged with triggers. tag with #(trigger), #tw (trigger), or #(trigger) tw. anyone who doesnt want to see that trigger will have the tags filtered out so they dont have to see them.

also if you are writing a character critical post you can use #c!(name) critical or #c!(name) negative. this means people who just want to see things like art can easily filter it out!

and an extra hot tip! the first 5 tags of your post are the most important, and tumblr only counts the first 20 when putting your post into tags, anything after that wont show up, so make sure not to over tag too much

Some tags to use:

#mcyt - catchall tag for anything mcyt, including hermitcraft, dsmp, hybrid/powers smp, mindcrack, shady oaks smp, etc.

#dream smp - the most used tag for any dream smp related posts (alternatives include #dreamsmp and #dsmp)

#tales from the smp - for anything tftsmp related (alternatives include #tftsmp and #talesfromthesmp)

HOW TO TUMBLR 101 - Making an Art Tag :)

I see A LOT of people who are new to tumblr struggling with posts and making art tags and such, mainly because English isn’t their first language.  

So, as a non-native English speaker who has also struggled for MONTHS with Tumblr, I’m making this post to help you guys out :))) TAG YOUR ARTIST FRIENDS!!!!! 

This is far from perfect, but i’ll try my best!  

1. What is tagging??

These are tags.

They are like bookmarks and the posts are books. If you search Tumblr for a certain tag, it will show ALL posts with that tag in it!

The same with searching for tags in a blog.  

after the blog’s URL (the www.[blahblahblah].tumblr.com thing) will be /tagged/[the tag you search for]

and this page will only show posts on that blog with this tag :) 

so, the big question:

2. How to make an art tag???

if you understand all the above, this should be simple (kind of)! :D

When you post your art, put a tag that you will use as your art tag in the #tags part. It could be anything you like, for example “my art”, “mine” or use or own “blog name”.  I am mattockmaniac47 so i can use “Mattock’s art” as my art tag.  Just use whatever you like, really, as long as it stays the same on all your art posts :))

If you already made a post but forgot to put an art tag, you can always EDIT the post and add the tag. 

first, get the permalink DIRECTLY FROM YOUR BLOG (go to your blog, find that post and get the permalink)

Once you’ve gotten to your post, the edit button should be on the top right corner 

ADD THAT TAG

save it and we’re good!

So, once that’s done, you can go to your blog and click on you art tag and it will lead you to a page with ALL YOUR ART

AND TA-DA! All your stuff! 

Now, how to add a link to your “art tag”???

3. Adding a link to your blog

Now, to the more confusing part… But don’t worry, it’s not THAT hard! just do it SLOWLY :)))

First, go to your blog and choose “Edit theme”.  You all first start with this theme, so i’ll just go with it, ok? :) 

after clicking that, this should appear

scroll ALLLL the way down to the bottom!

and click “Add a Page”. This appears:

Try to follow the instructions above and then save & exit the “edit theme”! (sorry for bad quality!!! Tumblr is shit!)

AND NOW THE MOMENT OF TRUTH!!!!!

IT WORKS!!!!!! XD

Once you’re good at it, you can play around with the themes and making pages like this: 

it’s pretty fun to do, actually :)))
