You joined the Whitebeard Pirates not long before the Spade Pirates decided to attack. Marco took you under his wing almost immediately. He's been your best friend and closest crewmate ever since, even though you've always secretly hoped for more. Unfortunately, the universe doesn't care about what you secretly hope for.

Thatch looks up from his work to smirk at you, not even needing to follow your line of sight to know you're swooning over Marco again.
“You should tell him how you feel.” Your eyes shoot back to Thatch's face, widened at the boldness of his statement. Your jaw drops, prepared to say something, anything to defend yourself. One lonely flower petal falls out before you can. Landing on the top of the barrel between you and Thatch.
His eyes widen to match your own. “You have to tell him about this.” You shake your head as Thatch turns away from you. “Marco!”
Marco comes over and leans against the barrel, close enough that you can feel the warmth radiating off of him. “Hi Thatch, hi (y/n). How are you both doing?”
“She just coughed up a flower petal.”
Marco's brows furrow as he looks over to you. “What?” You shyly point down to the petal laying between you all. “Where did it come from?”
Your voice is quiet, ashamed to have had this happen where other people could see. “I don't know.”
“You coughed it up?” Avoiding Marco’s eyes, you nod. He grabs it off the table and starts to turn to head below deck. “I’ll do some research.”
Thatch watches Marco disappear below deck before turning back to you. “Are you okay?” You quickly nod before returning to the task the two of you were doing before. Thatch accepts your silence for the time being and joins you.

A few days later, the crew is sitting down to dinner in the galley. Ace’s is next to you, laughing at a story you’re telling him. Most of the meal goes smoothly. Everyone eats and eventually drinks get brought out to replace the food.
Marco watches you and Ace as Skull tells a story to the table. An opening appears in the story and Marco takes the opportunity to tell a well placed joke. Skull smiles over to him as you and Ace both laugh.
Marco smirks at you both before your laughter turns into panicked coughing. Ace jumps up, hand on your shoulder as he says your name a little too loud. Most of the crew is standing as Marco runs around the table. Tears fill your eyes as you stare down at the small pile of flower petals on the table in front of you. It’s never been more than one.
There’s panicked murmurs all around you as Ace tightens his grip on your shoulder and Marco lowers himself to your level. “Hey (y/n), you okay?” You slowly nod as Marco’s hand comes up to cup your cheek.
“Have you found anything about this yet, Marco?” Thatch’s voice is loud as the rest of the crew goes silent.
“Not yet.” Marco’s voice is quiet, attention still fully on you. “I’ll figure it out, yoi.” He grabs the pile and presses a quick kiss to your forehead before heading out of the galley.
Ace grabs your other shoulder and he turns you to face him. “What’s going on?”
Your eyes come up to his, no longer having the pile of petals to stare at. “I don’t know.” Ace pulls you into his arms as your tears start to fall.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
After that dinner, the crew doesn’t leave you alone again. Pops has you move into the empty half of Deuce’s room that was abandoned after Ace’s promotion. The younger doctor keeps an eye on you throughout the night. His worry grows everytime he steps into your shared bathroom and spots the trash filled with fresh petals.
Pops also moves you to kitchen duty during the day, keeping you under the watchful eye of Thatch around mealtimes.
When not with Thatch or Deuce, Ace keeps you as occupied as possible, subjecting you to be victim of the chaos he causes on the ship.
Despite being under consistent watch of your crew, the petals come more often and are significantly more painful each time. A couple months go by of them getting progressively worse while Marco hides away in his office buried in medical books from all across the four seas. The stack of petals next to the books gets bigger as your crewmates continue to pass them on.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
“Hey Deuce? Are you still awake?” You hear grunts from the other side of the room as he tries to pull himself out of what little sleep he was getting.
Probably not the best time to try to get his attention but it’s a bit needed right now. “I am. What’s up?”
“Can you come look at this?” You continue staring at your lap, trying not to cry.
Deuce’s finally awake enough to hear the strain in your voice and he pushes himself up before wrapping himself in his blanket and coming over to your bed. Sitting across from you, he looks down at your lap. His eyes rapidly widen before he looks away from a full flower, only missing a stem. “Shit.”
“Am I gonna die?”
He moves the flower over to the desk between your beds and pulls you into his arms, wrapping you both tightly in his blanket. “No, you won’t die. Go talk to Marco in the morning, okay? He told me yesterday that he might’ve found something.” You nod as you hug Deuce back.
“Stay with me the rest of the night?” Hearing the fear in your voice, Deuce simply nods against your shoulder before pulling you down to lay with him.
Neither of you goes back to sleep.
Eventually Deuce breaks the silence as the sun starts to rise. “What was happening this time?”
A shaky sigh leaves your mouth. “I was asleep, I think dreaming but I don’t remember. The pain woke me up and it was just in my lap when I sat up.”
Shit. “Okay. Are you feeling physically better now?” You nod before both falling back into silence.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Eventually the rest of the crew starts to wake up. Hearing the noise of your crewmates, you and Deuce get up. He gets dressed and heads out to start his day, reminding you to talk to Marco before he leaves.
You reach for a throw blanket and wrap it around your pajamas before heading to Marco’s office, not having the strength or will to get dressed this morning.
Nodding once, you don’t hear a response. Slowly opening the door, you look in to see Marco already buried in the pile of books. You knock again, this time on the door frame inside the office.
“(y/n)! What do you need? Come in.” He struggles to push a book to the side before standing a little too quickly and moving over to the less messy couch on the opposite side of the room.
Slowly closing the door, you watch him until he’s sitting on the couch. You softly walk over, wishing you had at least put shoes on. Plopping next to him on the couch, you hesitantly hold out your hand, the flower from the night before resting in your palm.
Marco just stares for a moment before taking it from you. He turns it over in his hand a few times before letting it rest on his own palm.
The room is silent for a few minutes.
Finally, he speaks, voice soft. “Stay with me today.”
Your voice is equally soft, nervous about his lack of response to the flower. “Okay.” The room falls back into silence.
It takes a couple minutes for you to remember the pajamas you have on and the blanket wrapped around you. “Can I go get dressed first?”
Marco’s response is immediate. “Yes. Come right back please.”
Silently nodding, you step out of the office to go change. Marco runs back to his desk, digging out something he read yesterday. The flower you gave him is sitting in the center of his desk as he rapidly flips through a couple books.
Yep, he’s right. Shit.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Despite having figured it out, Marco doesn’t say or do anything about your predicament for the next few hours while you work with him. He’s hopeful that maybe whoever you love will realize soon that they love you back. If not, he’s has what he needs to perform the surgery to save you.
Currently, you’re both sitting side by side on the couch with a collection of books open on the table. Pops is doing well this week, and Marco already figured out your disease, so he’s teaching you basic anatomy with his free time.
His hand runs along your thigh as he reaches across the table to point at a diagram. The skin burns as his fingers graze it and you feel that all too familiar feeling coming up your chest. He looks up to make sure you’re looking at the diagram but his eyes quickly fill with panic and fear as you start coughing.
A full flower, stem and all, lands on the book closest to you.
The panic on your face rivals the panic on Marco’s. Your hands land on his leg, pushing him away from you before you lose your lunch on the floor. A full flower?!
Pain burns through your throat as you watch Marco panic. He looks at you with wide eyes, hands fidgeting for only a minute before his hands rest on your shoulders.
He doesn’t do as good of a job as he thinks he does as he tries to calm you down and guide you over to the operating table. His words are rushed and you can hear the fear behind them. “Hey yoi, you’re okay, you’re okay, I got you.”
Your hands come up to his biceps, clinging to him like your life depends on it. “That’s the-” problem. Cutting yourself off, you can’t let him know he’s the reason your heart aches every day. At every meal when he cracks jokes. Every afternoon when he’s training with the younger pirates. Every time you work with him in his realm. He can’t know.
Once you’re seated on the operating table, Marco’s turned back by his desk, digging through his notes before he returns with a book. “I looked it up a few weeks ago, apparently only a returned love from the right person makes this go away but we can’t wait around for that forever.” Your heart sinks, sadness filling your face as Marco tries to crack a joke, softly bumping his elbow into your arm as he does. “I can’t lose my favorite crewmate.” He lets out a small laugh, failing to mask his real fear. You bite back the pain at the implication that your unrequited love for the man in front of you is actively killing you. “I found other ways to make it go away. Is it okay if I surgically remove the flowers? The feelings would go away too but you’ll still be alive…” His expression softens as he lowers himself to meet your eyes. He’s deeply worried you won’t let him but doesn’t want to force you into anything.
As his hand lands on your arm, the familiar and welcomed burning of his touch returns. Let him surgically remove your feelings for him? Is that better than dying from the love not being returned? Your gaze moves from his hand on your arm up to the agony on his face. Your voice is soft yet echoing through the silence in the room. “Yes, that’s okay.”
He quietly repeats your words back to you, voice quieter than a whisper as he stands and gently kisses your forehead before stepping away. He moves to a small box at the corner of his desk. He takes out a small bottle of anesthesia and comes back to the table, box tucked under one arm.
“This will put you to sleep since the surgery is for a disease in your lungs.” Your eyes widen as he passes you the bottle.
“In my lungs?”
Marco sits beside you on the bed, eyes staying on you while the worry on your face grows. His voice is quiet as he explains, a little worried you'll run. He needs to do this. He needs to save you. “The flowers grow in your lungs, that's why you cough them out. They travel up your trachea and get stuck in your throat.” You look away from the bottle and your fear filled eyes meet Marco's. “Do you want someone else in here, too?”
“No.” You shake your head a little too aggressively as your grip tightens on the bottle. “I trust you, Marco.”
He gives you a sad smile before pulling you into his side. “I won't let anything happen to you.” His chin rests on the top of your head as yours rests on his chest.
“I know you won't.”
You're both quiet for a minute before you push yourself off of Marco and open the bottle. His hand slides down your back before it hits the table. He swallows hard as you down the bottle.
“Now we wait?” The anxious look in your eyes makes his heart ache as he nods. He helps you lay down before he moves to get the surgery supplies out of the small box he brought over.
The room falls back into silence as you watch Marco prep. The room starts to fade as the drug kicks in. Marco's eyes keep moving up to you as he works, checking in to make sure you're still okay.
He looks up a little too soon after trying to set something down and drops it. The laugh that leaves your lips causes his eyes to shoot right up. His heart aches before it drops out of the ship. Oh.
Your eyes start to drift closed as Marco's mind fills with every memory of hearing your laugh.
Every time the crew's sitting to dinner and he cracks a joke just to hear you and Ace laugh at it.
Every time he flexes a little extra working on deck just to hear you giggle while working with Thatch.
Every time he touches you and a quiet laugh escapes, trying to hide the flusters.
Oh.
Marco's up, his arms on your shoulders before moving up to cup your cheeks. “Wake up. (y/n) please wake up. I can't do this.” His hands move back to your shoulders to shake you slightly. “Shit.”
The pressure in your chest and throat fade slightly. You force your eyes back open before the drug can knock you out. “Marco…?”
“Is it me?” His voice is quiet, fear showing on his face, terror filling his heart as he tries to wrap his mind around what he just almost did.
It takes you a second to realize what he's even asking. “Who else would it be?” A small chuckle leaves you as his eyes widen.
“Fuck. Don't fall asleep.” His hands move back up to cup your cheeks as he brings his lips up to meet yours in a soft kiss.

Sanji stands at the counter, whipping up a quick dessert while the rest of the crew eats dinner. His eyes are on you, noticing how you cut up and stir the food on your plate but don’t eat very much of it. You start to lift a bite to your mouth but set it back on the plate as you laugh at something Usopp said.
Sanji counts maybe five total bites in the whole meal before you and Nami head out of the galley. He pulls a small notebook out of a drawer and adds tonight’s dinner to the list of food you don’t like. He sighs at the length of foods you don’t like as he struggles to add even a third thing to the other list.
Zoro comes up to the counter, blatantly ignoring the stressed look on Sanji’s face. “Hey cook, we’re out of booze.”
“Go tell Nami to stop at the next island, mosshead. Not my job to stock your drinks.” Zoro grumbles in response before leaving the galley with the last bottle on the ship.
Sanji sighs and closes the notebook, tucking it back in the drawer before returning to the dessert.

The next day, the Going Merry docks at a nearby island. The crew prepares to disembark and explore while restocking for the next leg of the journey. Nervous about approaching you with his plan, Sanji instead ropes Usopp in to get food.
They look for foods you haven’t yet had on the ship, hopeful that you’ll like them. Usopp suggests mild foods that Sanji can then slowly add other flavors and ingredients to if you like the base food.
The two end up with many bags of the usual food for the rest of the crew and some new ingredients in hopes that you’ll start eating more.
Dinner that night goes a little bit better. Turns out, Usopp was right and you like the mild food. Sanji watches you eat an entire plate before asking for dessert. He happily hands a small plate over, giving you a smile as he does.
As the crew clears out, Sanji’s notebook is back out as he finally adds to the list of foods you like.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
This goes on for about another few weeks. Sanji’s able to add a lot to the list of foods you like, despite having to add a few more to the dislike list. Overall, he’s grateful that you’ve started eating more and that he’s able to help.
All is going well with Sanji’s plan until you enter the galley by yourself one afternoon. Needing a drink, you take one of the premade smoothies out of the fridge and search for a straw. Your search lands you in one of Sanji’s drawers. A small notebook catches your eye and your curiosity gets the best of you.
Foods she likes Foods she doesn’t like
Your heart drops reading the list. Shoving the notebook back in the drawer and closing it, you quickly return the smoothie to the fridge and run out of the room. Your heart is racing. Why is he doing that? How did he figure out my safe foods? You start to close yourself off to the crew, freaked out that Sanji has been able to figure out so much about you.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Sanji wanders into the galley later that same day, excited for the meal he has planned tonight. He opens the drawer and immediately notices the notebook is not in its usual spot. He pauses for only a moment, remembering that he did rush out after lunch. He decides it’s probably fine. No one probably saw it. He takes it out and opens it to the list of foods you like.
He spends the next hour carefully making a meal catered to your preferences, very excited for you have a meal you enjoy.
Ten minutes later, confusion lines his features and his heart aches as you pick at the food. He spots pain in your eyes as you lift a bite off your plate just to set it right back down. Relaxation dawns on him and his face softens as he looks over to the drawer the notebook’s in. The confusion returns as the connected dots fail to make a picture.
Luffy starts loudly telling a story, distracting Sanji while the crew continues to eat. You end up slipping away unnoticed during the story.
The crew starts to clear out and Sanji clears your plate off the table first. He sets it on the counter and takes out the notebook to compare the food to the lists. It’s entirely foods you’ve previously enjoyed. He turns the page and writes out the combination of flavors he used, thinking maybe two of the foods mixed together caused the problem.
He sighs before sliding the notebook back away and cleaning up dinner. He’ll try again tomorrow.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Sanji fails for four more days to get you to eat anything. The rest of the crew is starting to notice something wrong but no one’s discussing it so Sanji hasn’t figured out how much the malnutrition is affecting you.
It happens first when you’re navigating with Nami. Luckily you’re leaning on a table when your vision starts to blur. You can still hear, and continue answering Nami’s questions while waiting for your vision to clear again.
It happens again when you’re helping Usopp with some of his new inventions. He notices you pause with one of the tools in your hand and asks if you’re okay. You slowly nod as you wait for the room to stop spinning.
The third time it happens, you’re training with Zoro. He gets a hit in and freezes as he watches the blood start to drip from your arm. You don’t even notice as you will your vision to come back, having gone mostly dark this time.
Chopper doesn’t question it when he bandages up your cut, assuming it’s just a normal training injury.
The fourth time it happens, you’re helping Sanji put away the haul from an island in the galley. He watches you freeze with a box of rice halfway to the cupboard. You hold still, trying to let the dizziness pass and your vision restabilize.
Sanji slowly takes the box from you as you grab the counter. “Darling..? Are you okay..?” You try to turn to him to answer, thinking your vision’s almost back. Sanji ends up having to catch you as you pass out, landing right on his chest.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
You wake up a few hours later in your bed. Turning to the side, you notice the plate of your safe foods on the desk, each clearly separated from the rest so none of them touch. Your eyes move up to Sanji, sitting in your chair.
“Sanji? What happened?”
“You passed out in the kitchen, sweetheart.” Your eyes widen and you quickly look away from him. Fuck. “You haven’t been eating either. What’s going on, my love?”
Pushing yourself up, you sit against your pillows, looking anywhere except at Sanji. “Umm…” One thing at a time. “I umm… keep getting dizzy and I have to pause in the middle of doing stuff.” Tears start to slip out of your eyes voicing the problems you’re struggling with. Sanji quietly listens, chin resting in his palm as he watches you, tears starting to fill his own eyes. “I get too dizzy to trust myself to safely move and-” A sob rips through your body, stopping your words as you pull your legs up to your chest.
Sanji waits a moment before getting up. You squeeze your eyes shut, expecting to hear the door open. Instead, the mattress sinks besides you as he sits. Cracking an eye open, you see him reach out a hand, simply laying it on the bed beside you. You take his hand, giving it a weak squeezing. He gives you a firmer squeeze back before you continue, still hiding your face.
“I’m sorry I don’t eat the food you make. It’s not-” You sniffle back another sob, trying to figure out the words to explain how you feel. “If I eat certain foods, it triggers my gag reflex and I can’t swallow them. I can’t sleep either and I don’t know if it’s the lack of food or if the lack of sleep is causing the lack of hunger.” You swallow back another sob, so close to fully opening up. “I don’t know, I want to eat all the food you make, Sanji. It always looks so good but I can’t. My body won’t let me and I don’t know how to fix it.” Your hands move up to your forehead, sobs shaking through your body as tears stream down your face.
Sanji’s voice is quiet, not wanting to push any boundaries you still have up. “How long have you felt like this?”
You lift your head, finally looking at him again. Your tears filled eyes meet his and your heart aches in equal pressure to his. “I don’t remember.”
“How can I help?”
“I don’t know.”
Sanji’s quiet for a minute before he starts to get up and almost speaks. “Wait, Sanji?” You reach back out for his hand and pull it, keep him near you. “Can you umm…” He sits back down and gives your hand a comforting squeeze, patient while you fight to get the words out. “Can you stay with me?” His expression softens but you don’t give him a chance to answer. “It’s probably dumb but I thought if someone else was here, it might be easier to sleep.”
“Of course I can stay, beautiful, whatever you need.” He gives you a sweet smile before letting go of your hand to take his shoes off. He turns towards you and takes in the fact that you’re still curled up in a ball. “Do you want me to just hang out or do you want me in the bed? Either way is perfectly fine with me, whatever makes you com-”
“In the bed.” His eyes stay on you but he doesn’t move. “I’m sorry, I’ve never done this before.”
He slowly nods, connecting the dots in his head so that you don’t have to voice the connection. “It’s okay, love. I’ll lay down first, okay?” He waits for you to nod before laying down beside you and laying an arm behind your back. You turn to look at him and he almost continues talking before you start to move. He’s quiet as you lay beside him, using his bicep as a pillow. You reach over him to grab your favorite throw pillow to hug. “Are you comfortable, sweetheart?” You nod and he lets himself relax as you curl slightly into him.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Your eyes slowly flutter open a couple hours later and you turn to see Sanji, still awake and reading a book that was on your desk. His arm is tightly around your waist as he holds you against his side. He looks down at you as you loosen your grip around your pillow.
“Did you get some sleep, sweetheart?” You nod and push yourself up and out of his arms.
“Thank you, Sanji. I think I’m gonna take a shower now. I’ll see you at dinner?” His heart drops slightly as he watches you. But he slowly gets off your bed and sets the book back on your desk. He gives you a small smile as he slides his shoes back on and heads out the door. I can handle this myself. Sanji doesn’t need to help.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Sanji’s about halfway through making dinner when you come into the galley. He catches a whiff of your body wash as you come up to the stove to peek at what he’s making.
He spots the concern on your face and points over to a bowl on the side. “Don’t worry, darling. I got you.”
You peer into the bowl housing one of your safe foods. “You don’t have to do this for me, Sanji. I’ll figure it out.”
“I know I don’t have to. I want to.”
You return his sweet smile with a small one. “Thank you.”
He wraps an arm around your shoulder and softly kisses your temple as you reach for a bite of the food. His hand stirring the other food pauses as he sees you grimace. “What’s wrong?”
You shake your head, forcing the bite down. “Nothing.”
“Sweetheart, what’s wrong with the food?” Sanji puts the spatula down and turns you to face him.
Your eyes are on the ground between your feet as the guilt starts to eat at you. “It’s the pepper. I’m sorry.”
“No worries, sweets.” You look back up to see Sanji moving the bowl away and starting to remake your food from scratch. “Is there anything else wrong with it?”
You step away from him as the guilt consumes your heart. “No, I’m sorry, I can eat the-”
He’s careful to keep the pepper away from the food. “It’s not a problem, dear.” He looks over with a comforting smile as he works.
Shyly leaning against the counter, you watch him continue to work, effortlessly making two very different meals with no problems.
After a few minutes, he slides a fresh bowl in front of you and nervously watches as you try a bite. He lets out a breath as you smile and take another bite. Your voice is quiet, still guilty he had to do this. “This is delicious, Sanji. Thank you.”
You move behind him and wrap your arms around his waist, not wanting to disrupt the cooking he’s doing for the rest of the crew.
“Of course, my love. We’ll get through this together.” You smile against his back as his hand moves to hold your joined ones against his stomach.

“The sun is starting to set.” You look up to Hakugan, sadness lining his words as he looks out to the horizon.
Your eyes fly back down as you feel Shachi shift in your lap. “Shachi!?” Half the crew jumps up as they all turn to look at you.
A breathy laugh leaves your lips as you brush the hair out of his face. His eyes start to flutter open and he reaches up to rub his eyes. Both Law and Penguin jump up, leaning over either side of Shachi’s body.
His eyes meet yours as he fully regains consciousness. “What happened?”
You let out a shaky breathe you didn’t know you were holding as Penguin responses, voice barely above a whisper. “You almost died on us.” Your heart aches at the pain and fear in his voice.
Shachi’s hand subconsciously moves to hold yours as he looks over to Penguin. Your hands move to his shoulders as he tries to sit up. Penguin’s hands quickly move to his back as he helps. Once he’s sitting up, he feels the pain from the wounds on his chest, back, and neck. He lets out a raggedly breath, leaning forward to try to ease the pain. His eyes land on the shattered remains of the weapons laying in a pile beside Law.
Shachi’s eyes land on his captain’s face as Law speaks, voice shaking, guilty that he couldn’t do the job right. “You’ll be okay, Shachi. You might just have bad scarring cause I couldn’t do the surgeries properly. I’m so-”
“Thank you, Cap.” Law’s lips draw into a line as he sinks back, stress starting to leave his body.
Shachi’s hands move up to grab yours and pull you down against his back. Your fingers interlace with his as you rest your head against his shoulder.
The crew is all silent for a while, everyone still sitting on deck as the fear slowly leaves everyone’s bodies.
The moon is bright in the sky when Law speaks again. “We need to submerge.” There’s quiet mumbles of agreement but no one moves for another few minutes.
Shachi starts to stand first, forcing you to loosen your grip before he turns and takes your hand. “Cap, do you need to check anything before-”
“You’ll be okay tonight, I’ll check in tomorrow. Come to me if anything is wrong.” Shachi just nods as he helps you stand and leads you below deck back to your cabin.
Most of the crew slowly stands after watching you both leave. Everyone quietly makes their way back below deck, leaving Law, Bepo, and Penguin alone.
“Cap, what if-” Fear and pain are both still lacing Penguin’s words, still no where close to recovered from the panic of almost losing his best friend.
“No. He’s fine, Penguin. The crew is strong, we won’t lose anyone.” Penguin just gives him a small nod as Bepo meets his eyes, sharing in his lingering fear.
Law gets up and heads towards the door. “C’mon, we need to submerge before someone else comes.”
Bepo stands first and helps Penguin up before they both follow Law below deck.

Closing your cabin door behind you, the soft glow of the lamp that was left on this morning envelopes you both. Shachi hears the door click shut before turning back to face you, arms going around your waist as his head falls onto your shoulder. Your arms wrap around his shoulders as one hand goes up to his neck. Resting your head against his, you silently hold him for a few minutes before speaking.
“Hey baby, let’s get you cleaned up, okay?” He nods against your shoulder before slowly standing back up.
His eyes stay on your face, watching in silent awe as you undress him. His heart aches, incredibly grateful that you love him enough to take care of him like this. He lets you take his hand and guide him to your bathroom.
Shachi lands hard on the floor of the shower, groaning as you almost fall on top of him, neither of you prepared for the ship to submerge so aggressively. His hand instinctively comes up to your arm to steady you. He only lets go once he’s sure you’re okay. He readjusts to sit cross legged, hands in his lap as his eyes start to drift closed. You carefully stand on the edge of the tub, grabbing the shower head before kneeling outside the tub. You turn the water on and carefully adjust it so it’s not too hot.
Letting it run down Shachi’s back, you let out a quiet sigh as you watch the tension leave his shoulders. “Head back, bubs.” He slowly lifts his head, careful to not stretch his neck too much. Your hand lands on his forehead, blocking the water from flowing into his eyes as you let it fall through his hair.
His eyes flutter open and move over to you. His voice is soft as he speaks. “Thank you, love.”
“Not something you need to thank me for, Shach.” He doesn’t respond as you hand him the shower head and reach for the shampoo.
Trying to limit your work, he carefully starts to wash his legs while you wash his hair. He doesn’t get very far before you take the shower head back and wait for him to lift his head.
He’s quiet as your hand rests on his forehead, keeping the shampoo from getting in his eyes as you wash it out. His eyes stay on your face, adoration in them as he watches you concentrate. “I love you, honey.”
“I love you, too, Shach.” He gives you a small smile before you move to wash his back.
The rest of the shower is quiet, Shachi’s heart aching as he watches you take care of him.
It’s not long before you turn the water off and reach out a hand to help him stand. He takes a towel from you before looking down at your body. “I’m sorry, love, should’ve had you join so you could get clean, too.” You give him a soft smile as you reach up to cup his cheek.
“I’ll be quick. Do you want help getting dressed?” He shakes his head, hand coming up to hold yours against his face. “I’ll be out in a minute, okay?” He nods and softly kisses your palm before stepping out of the bathroom to let you shower.
Only a few minutes go by before you leave the bathroom. But you already find Shachi in bed, comforter pulled back to reveal the black sweats he put on. His arms are wrapped around a pillow as he lays on his stomach, giving you a clear view of the wound on his back. Your heart aches as you start looking for something to put on.
Shachi watches you get dressed. You quickly find a clean pair of boxers and a shirt, slipping both on before climbing into bed next to him.
He carefully pushes himself up so you can slide under him. His arms come around your waist as he settles his head on your chest. “I’m sorry for scaring you.” You lift your head to press a kiss to the top of his. One of your hands tangles in his hair while the other wraps around his shoulders. “Thank you for taking care of me.”
“It’s a privilege to take care of you, Shach.” His grip on you tightens as you both fall into a peaceful silence.
Summary: Shachi doesn't make it back to the Polar Tang fast enough during a battle with an enemy crew.

Jean Bart reaches his hand down to pull you back onto deck, grabbing Kaka right after you and dropping her at your side. Uni, Clione, and Bepo have already made it back to deck, collapsing near the crew who stayed aboard. Your hands are quickly on the railing, eyes scanning the murky and debris heavy water for Shachi and Penguin. The water below you crashing into the side of the ship as Penguin’s head pops up. You reach down to take his hand and pull him up.
“Where’s Shachi?” Your eyes are still scanning the debris as Penguin slumps against the railing besides you, panic starting to build in his body.
“He was making sure everyone else got back to the ship. He was right behind me.” As he’s talking, his arm flies up, pointing to a larger piece of driftwood about halfway between the Polar Tang and the enemy’s ship.
Shachi’s eyes scan the deck and land on yours as he sighs. He starts to push himself off the driftwood to swim back to the ship. He’s fine. He’s headed back. You hear the whoosh of an arrow flying before you see anything. Shachi’s lower jaw shakes and fear fills his eyes as they stay on yours. Your eyes widen as he falls forward onto the driftwood, an arrow sticking straight out of his back.
“SHACHI!!” Over a dozen voices scream his name as Bepo shares a silent look with Law across the deck. Bepo’s arms are tightly around you and Penguin before either of you can jump into the water to help Shachi.
“Bepo, let go!” Penguin fights back against Bepo, trying to get off the ship to go save his best friend.
Bepo silently tightens his grip on both of you as your eyes stay on Shachi’s.
Across the deck, Uni tries to jump in but Law’s arm comes up across his chest to stop him. They both freeze as an arrow hits the side of the Tang right where Uni was about to be. “Don’t.”
“Cap, the crew will fall apart without him. I have to. We can’t-”
“Not yet. Wait until they leave.” The strain in Law’s voice stops Uni more than his words do. Law can’t lose anyone else. He can’t lose Shachi. He’s silently hyperanalyzing where Shachi’s injuries are from afar, already planning how to fix them all.
Bepo struggles to hold you up as another arrow hits Shachi’s chest. Shachi’s body moves with the waves, falling back as it’s being fully held up by the driftwood. The emotions start to fade from his face as your eyes move down to his lips. He mouths a silent I love you. “NO! SHACHI!” You get free of Bepo’s hold and grab the railing. Clione’s arms are around your waist before you can throw yourself overboard.
Shachi gives you a small smile before his head violently jerks to the side. You watch the life start to leave his eyes before you spot the knife lodged in his neck.
“SHACHI!” Penguin gets free of Bepo as you collapses onto the deck in Clione’s hold.
Law watches the enemy ship start to leave, apparently satisfied with only killing Shachi. He quickly pushes Uni towards the water. “Go get him.”
Uni’s in the water, already by Shachi and starting to pull him back to the Tang when Penguin gets into the water. They meet halfway, sharing the strain of dragging Shaci’s body back to the ship.
Bepo and Kaka are at the railing, helping to pull Shachi up. Clione lets go of you and moves over to help Kaka, supporting half of Shachi’s body as they turn to face Law.
“Cap, what do we do?” “We have to take him to the medbay, right?” “The enemy’s leaving, right?” “Cap, we have to save him.” Shachi’s body is slacked, being fully supported between Clione and Kaka as the entire crew looks to your captain. You look up at Shachi’s unconscious body, watching the blood seep out of his injuries. No, please no. Shachi don’t go.
Penguin feels the sobs shake through your body as he tightly wraps his arms around you. His own tears fall to the deck with yours.
“Uni, cut the arrow on his back. Don’t remove it.”
Uni’s quick to obey. “Copy, Cap.”
Once the arrow is cut, Law orders Kaka and Clione to carefully lay Shachi on the deck. “We don’t have time to get him below deck.”
Clione, Kaka, and Uni all collapse onto deck, giving Law space as they watch him work. The deck is silent, every Heart Pirate sitting in fear and clinging to each other as they all try to will Shachi into being okay.
After a few minutes, and hearing the knife get thrown to the side, you look up and see Law finishing the work on Shachi’s neck. You slide out of Penguin’s hold and slowly crawl over to sit near Shachi’s head.
Law spares you the quickest glance as you carefully take Shachi’s face in your hands, moving your own down to place your lips on his forehead as you continue to silently cry. Penguin watches you before moving over to sit at Shachi’s side, opposite Law. His arms wrap around his legs as he pulls his knees to his chest.
The deck returns to a silent and frozen fear as Law works on the chest wound. Your eyes are on his hands as your tears fall to Shachi’s cheeks.
Law looks up at you as his hands stop moving. “We have to turn him over.”
You raise your head at the pain in his voice. Your tear filled eyes meet his as you nod and let go of Shachi. Penguin helps Law flip him over and you watch as Law gets back to work.
Your hands absentmindedly start to play with Shachi’s hair for a minute before you pause. “Where’s his hat?” You look up to Uni who looks out and scans the ocean.
“I don’t see it.” Uni continues scanning, too weak to get himself to the railing to look.
Penguin gets up and brings himself to the edge of deck, eyes on the driftwood Shachi was clinging to. He spots it hooked to a corner. “I think it’s stuck on the driftwood.”
One of your crewmates stands near Penguin and follows his line of sight. “I got it.” Penguin stands at the railing to help his crewmate back on deck as he returns.
Penguin comes to sit back by you and Shachi as he hands you the hat.
Law sits up, rolls Shachi onto his back again with Penguin’s help, landing Shachi’s head in your lap, and collapses back into Bepo.
You set his hat to the side as you move your hands back to the sides of his face. “What now, Cap?”
“Now, we wait for him to wake up.” The crew is silent, fear radiating off of every body on deck, as you all try to ignore the if Law wouldn’t voice.
Biting your bottom lip, your throat aches as a sob starts to come up. “C’mon Shach, please wake up.”
The crew waits. Some eyes on you as your tears continuing falling to Shachi’s face. Some on Penguin as he takes one of Shachi’s hands. Most on the ground as everyone hopes for a miracle.
The crew continues waiting. Sobs can be heard around deck as everyone fears the worst.
Everyone waits. Fear building as the sun moves further across the sky.

“Boss, it’s one of those rookies in the Worst Generation. Think they’re coming for your head.”
Benn looks up from his game with Limejuice and out to the sea. Sure enough, the Victoria Punk is headed straight for them.
“Prepare for a quick battle, men.” The Victoria Punk gets close enough for planks to be dropped and the Red Hair Pirates are ready as the Kid Pirates come aboard, swords raised.
Benn spots you as you grab Kid’s arm. He watches the smile form on Kid’s face and vaguely processes Kid headed for him. His eyes are on you. He swears he recognizes you but he has zero idea where from. Must be a common face.
He shakes off the feeling and approaches Kid, ready to defend his crew. His sword comes down in an aggressive swing, going right through Kid’s arm. His sword lowers as he watches the arm come clean off and fall to the ground. Kid stumbles before Benn’s eyes are back on you, right in front of him as you catch Kid and start to tie the same exact makeshift tourniquet he tied on Shanks years earlier.
Confusion rapidly grows on Benn’s face. That’s not the way most people tie tourniquets, that’s specifically the way he does.
Killer and Heat are at your side as Benn works through his confusion. They carry Kid back to the Victoria Punk and Benn finally snaps out of it as you slowly stand and face him.
“Benn, how could you?! Your captain knows the pain of losing a limb, of losing an arm!! How could you do that to someone else?!” How do you know his name? He hesitates, confusion continuing to grow before he raises his sword. Regardless of who you are, he has to defend his crew and his captain.
Your sword quickly comes up in defense and that’s when he spots it. The bracelet. “(y/n)...?” He tries to drop his arms, the fight tries leaves his body. He doesn’t want to support this attack. It’s you. Your crew. Your family. Your home.
His arm comes down. Bringing the sword with it. Right into your neck. Your blood is covering him. Your body is slumped against him. Your crew is screaming. He’s crying. He killed his own daughter in the anger he brought into the Grand Line. In the anger he holds at no one in particular. That he carries in silence. He screams as he reaches for you.
Benn wakes up in a cold sweat. Hongo’s at his side holding a glass of water.
“Was it the dream about her again?” Benn just nods as he takes a drink.

The Red Hair Pirates leave the bar, heading towards the coast of Elbaph. Shanks looks ahead as he speaks. “Before we leave… I need you to go ask something.”
Rockstar turns in confusion to his captain. “From Captain Kid, Sir?! What is it…?” Benn’s eyes widen, finally picking up on who is approaching the island.
“Do you want to fight me here and now or leave your road ponegliff and flee?”
Benn speeds up to walk alongside Shanks. “Boss, don’t harm them or their ship.”
Shanks ignores him, continuing his orders to Rockstar. “Tell him to make his choice.”
Benn continues, trying to get through to Shanks, pleading to keep you out of harm’s way. “That’s (y/n)’s home. We can’t-”
“She chose that home.” Shanks doesn’t spare Benn even the slightest glance, still facing forward as he leads his crew towards a battle. “Kid attacked us first, we have to fight back. I’m an emperor, Benn, did you forget what that means? I’d do the same thing to Luffy if he attacked us.”
“Boss, you have to see how that’s different. Luffy’s a captain. He’s an emperor. He would make the decision to attack us himself. Don’t steal (y/n)’s home because of the decisions of her captain.”
Shanks looks over to his first mate, finally taking in the desperation behind his eyes. He sighs but doesn’t respond as he continues on.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
“Seems the ships along the shore and the ones lazily shooting at us all belong to pirate crews working for Red Hair- the Emperor!! Each one of them is known and feared. The last time, we never even got an audience with Red-Hair himself. Instead, we got beaten to a pulp and you lost your arm!!” Killer laughs as he finishes the recap of the last time you all encountered Shanks’ crew.
You subconsciously reach up to rub Kid’s left arm, where you know it’s throbbing and bugging him. It happens every time you’re about to enter a battle. He quietly sighs and you feel the tension start to slightly leave his body despite the anger on his face.
“They won’t stop at an arm this time. They’ll take your life!!” Leaning in front of Kid, you look over to Killer. Shanks wouldn’t really take the life of my crew, would he? He’s kept Luffy safe in the past and fought in Marineford. If he’s protecting my brothers, he wouldn’t take me down.
Kid laughs in response. “Maybe so but only if I lose.” The tension seeping out of Kid’s body as his excitement grows, transferring right into yours as you nervously look out towards Elbaph.
“LISTEN UP, KID PIRATES!!” The whole crew turns to listen to the captains of the crews sailing under Shanks. None of them look or sound intimidating at all.
Kid scuffs as confusion grows on everyone’s faces. “Are they serious?! Is that really part of Red-Hair’s operation?! This is the New World, right?!”
“Still, there are some famous names along them. Don’t get sloppy.” Your hand drops off Kid’s arm as he moves forward on Killer’s words. “I wasn’t gonna go easy on ‘em… even if they are nobodies… Prepare an attack!”
The crew gets in motion, preparing to take out all of Shanks’ subordinates when you turn and watch the ships start to flee. “Umm.. Kid, what’s happening?”
He turns to you before following your arm to where you’re pointing. You abandon your preparation tasks to stand beside him. “What do these damn crews think they’re doing?! Not even defending their captain?!”
Killer walks up and stands behind you, watching the Red Force move away from the island. “Looks like you’re gettin’ your audience with Red-Hair, Kid.”
Kid smirks as his eyes settle on the Red Force, the Emperor standing center deck. “About damn time. How many ships?”
“Nine! And I see a few faces from bounty posters…” Kid’s hand moves down around your waist, checking for your metal belt as Killer reports.
His arm moves fully off of you and he sends you back towards center ship as his metal arm grows. “I don’t care who they are!! I’ll wipe ‘em out in ten seconds flat with my damned punk!!”
Your eyes land on Shanks as he gives orders to his crew and two of the giants. Shanks jumps off the Red Force, en route to the Victoria Punk, as your eyes move down to Benn’s. The fear in your eyes meets the sadness in his. Shanks won’t kill my crew, right Benn? You won’t let him hurt me and take my home, right?
Benn breaks eye contact as Shanks lands on deck near Kid. “Divine departure!” The black lightning emitting from Shanks’ sword and covering the entire ship vibrates your body and sends you into a state of frozen shock as you watch the main brunt of the attack hit Kid and Killer.
You don’t process the foam leaving your mouth until Heat is on you, gripping your shoulders as he shakes you back to life. An explosion sends both of you falling into the wall as Killer flies across the ship, landing near you with a loud thud. Kid lands near where he was struck, struggling to push himself up as Shanks approaches him.
“Shanks stop!” Heat trails behind you, trying to hold you back as you land on the deck near Kid’s head. “We’ll leave, we won’t come back! I promise!” Shanks refuses to meet your eyes as you look up to him. His eyes stay planted firmly on Kid’s face, now being held in your hands as Heat runs up from below deck.
“We surrender, Red Hair! Spare our lives! These are our road poneglyphs! All of them!”
Dive is right behind him, reaching out for you as she yells. “Don’t kill our captain!!!”
Your eyes don’t leave Shanks’ face as you slide a head down to feel for Kid’s pulse. Please be alive. Please be okay. Your own heart statters as you feel it and you almost collapse before tearing your eyes off Shanks. “Kid baby, wake up.” Your eyes are on his face as you shake his shoulders and wipe at the blood on his face.
Shanks watches, not letting his angry facade fade before he hears one of his own crew yell for him. He won’t kill any of you today. Sail away, (y/n). Don’t come back. I won’t let your crew get away a third time.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Benn nervously watches as you run up to Kid, looking up at Shanks without fear in your eyes. Boss, don’t do anything to her.
His nerves grow as he watches your crew try to save Kid and Killer, handing over the poneglyphs as Shanks doesn’t move. C’mon, boss. We got the poneglyphs, let them go.
He breathes a sigh of relief as Shanks departs the Victoria Punk, coming back to the Red Force and seemingly leaving your crew alone now.
His relief is short lived as your crew starts to panic. UK and Dive run up on the masthead, screaming as they try to warn you all for what the Dorry and Brogy are preparing to do.
Benn falls to the deck, not hearing the words of his captain as his eyes stay glued on you clinging to Kid. “Hakoku Sovereignty!!” His heart sinks into the ocean, tears streaming down his face as the Victoria Punk is ripped clean in half. He watches your crew fall into the ocean. You and Heat trying desperately to pull Kid above the surface.
“C’mon Benn, we have work to do.” He finally pulls his eyes away from the disaster to look up to Shanks. The pure rage in his captain’s eyes freezes Benn back in place for a moment before he stands and wipes the tears away. I’m so sorry I couldn’t save you, (y/n).
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Heat has Kid’s good arm around his shoulders as you wrap both of yours around Kid’s chest. Dive swims back up to the surface and wraps an arm around your shoulders. You look over to see UK and Wire holding up a barely conscious Killer as the rest of the crew resurfaces and moves closer together. Tears stream down your face as you watch your home sink into the sea.
Hello! Do you have any plans on making the Red Hair Crew's POV during and after the confrontation with the Kid pirates in your The Worst of the Worst fic?

Marco chases after you as you sprint across Sabaody. His legs are sore but the excitement you hold for today is worth the pain. Your pride flag waves behind you until you stop. Marco crashes right into you, catching you before you fall.
Looking around for a moment, you sigh before looking up at him. “First, we docked on the wrong side of the archipelago. We’re already late, and now we’re lost.” He loosely drapes an arm across your shoulder, looking around the island.
“C’mon, dove. I think it’s this way.” He leads you down a nearby road. You walk for a while and you’re convinced Marco sent you the wrong way.
However, his arm drops as you start running, hearing the noises of the parade. You take in the excitement of the crowd before turning back to Marco with a small pout.
He’s already smiling down at you, beating you to the punch as he knows exactly what you’re about to ask. “Do you need help seeing the parade?”
You nod, deepening your pout. He eyes your flag cape and waits patiently for you to lift it up before he squats. Throwing a leg around his shoulders, you giggle as he wraps his arms around your thighs and stands back up. One of his hands shoots up to your side, making sure you’re steady. “Thank you, babyyy.” Hearing the joy in your voice, his hands move down to hold your calves. You let the flag fall, covering both of your backs.
Your smile grows exponentially as you watch the floats go by. One of your hands subconsciously goes to Marco’s head, combing your fingers into his hair before gently resting your palm.
A loud cheer leaves your lips as Marco looks up to you with a smile. He gently squeezes your calf.
You glance down only briefly, bending down to kiss him before looking back at the parade. “Happy Pride, dove.”

“Stop it, Hawkins!!” Killer sits against the rubble, pushing himself back, laughing as he watches the smirk on Hawkins’ face as he pushes the knife a little further into your stomach. It’s not a deep cut, the flat side of the blade simply holding you in place, but he still sees blood. Killer spots the fear and panic behind your eyes, the need to break free, to be safe in his arms. He wants to- he really needs to get you away from Hawkins. He needs you safe. But he can’t hurt Hawkins. Killing Hawkins kills Kid. And Killer can’t do that to his oldest friend, to your captain.
“Take your pick, Killer.” Hawkins pulls the knife away from your stomach, releasing the pressure as the blood starts seeping out. You would’ve crumble if the knife didn’t immediately find its place right under your chin. Fear seeps through Killer’s body as another laugh lets out. “I’m glad you find this amusing.” Hawkins smiles over at your boyfriend. “Do you want to save her? Cause you can. Just take me down. Kid will fall, too, but he won’t know why. You could be guilt free as your crew sails away without their captain.”
You aggressively shake your head. Killer can’t do that. The crew would fall apart without Kid. Killer would fall apart without Kid. You can’t fix it if Killer losses Kid. You’ll lose them both.
Frantically trying to fight to get out of Hawkins’ hold, you stop caring if the knife digs into your skin. It can be fixed later. Hawkins feels the knife break skin, the slow flow of blood out of your neck. “You can’t be the one to make the choice. That’d be boring.” His hand wraps around the back of your neck as the knife gets pulled away. Killer’s heart sinks as you’re thrown on the ground. You reach for him as he starts to move closer.
His heart stops as Hawkins steps on your back, halting your movements as you choke out blood.
“C’mon Killer, make a choice. If you don’t stop me soon,” Hawkins’ smirk returns as he laughs through the next few words. “I’ll kill her.” Killer just laughs in response, frozen in fear.
His eyes move to yours, heart shattering at the terror lining your features and the tears coming to your eyes. His eyes stay on your face as he finally answers Hawkins, voice quiet. “I ask you, release Kid. Let her go. You can have my life in exchange.”
Killer falters slightly as you scream for him. He can’t do that. You can’t lose him. Hawkins throws his head back slightly, pondering the offer.
“No. I’m enjoying making you choose.” Hawkins lifts his foot and bends down beside you, knee landing on your back as he pulls your head up by the back of your neck. Your movements are restricted, you can’t look away from Killer. You can’t hide the fear and pain. He’s right there, he’s so close. He’s laughing only a few feet from you as you try not to make this harder for him. “Would you like me to kill her now or do you want to keep begging for both of their lives?”
Killer looks right at you, attention fully on your face. You can tell he’s crying through the laughs even though you can’t see his face. Your voice is strained, the words struggling to get past the pain in your body. “I can take it, Kil, it’s okay.” Killer falls in the ground, body giving out at your words. You try to subtly gesture to your left arm, the one Kid doesn’t have, hoping for the sake of your life that Killer picks up on your idea.
Killer pauses, sitting up slightly as he looks back to Hawkins. “If you take damage without a proper conduit, where does that damage go?” It tugs at your heart to hear him hold back another laugh as he tries to distract Hawkins.
Hawkins brows furrow, tightening his grip on your neck as confusion lines his features. “What do you mean..? You should know how my power works by now! All of the damage I take goes straight to Kid, as long as I hold his straw doll within my body!” Hawkins smirks, confidence way too high as he lifts your head slightly higher.
Killer glances back down to the pain lining your features before he quickly stands, taking a swing and cutting Hawkins’ left arm off.
Shock lines Hawkins’ face as you fall to the ground at Killer’s feet. It takes a moment before Hawkins screams. “How did you cut off my arm?! The damage should have gone to-”
“Kid has no left arm.” Killer forces himself to keep his attention on Hawkins, knowing he won’t have the strength to finish this fight if he turns towards you. He steps away, trying to push your groans out of his mind as you whither in pain beneath him.
The rest of the fight is quick. Having no more lives blocking his own, Hawkins stands no chance against a very angry Killer.
Killer’s quick to collapse at your side the second Hawkins is down. His heart breaks at the small smile playing at your lips as he lifts your broken body into his arms. “Hey Kil, you saved us both.”
His forced laughter is heavily covered by sobs, shattering your heart as he carefully holds your face, trying to respond. “I couldn’t- I can’t- he was-”
“I know, baby, but you did it. You saved us.” Your conversation is disrupted as a loud crash comes from the direction of Kid and Law’s fight against Big Mom.
Killer looks in that direction, whispering Kid’s name before he carefully lifts you into his arms. “I’ve got you, hun, hold on for me please.” He lets you wrap your legs around his waist, and your arms around his neck before he heads to watch the battle with the rest of the crew.
Your hold on him is tight as you listen to Kid’s fight. Your eyes briefly meet with Bubblegum’s before another crash happens in the fight. Your eyes start to drift closed, your head falling onto Killer’s shoulder. He feels your legs fall off his waist and your arms go limp as Kid and Law finally take down Big Mom.
Kid turns to Killer with a huge smile on his face before he spots the fear in Killer’s body language. He quickly moves over, about to ask his first mate what’s wrong when Killer suddenly shakes his head, crying out your name through bits of laughter as he remembers Chopper helping people across the building.
He takes off, Heat close behind him, as he runs straight to Chopper, carefully setting you on the ground besides the deer. “Please, you have to help, she did nothing wrong and Hawkins-”
Chopper turns away from his other patient, taking in your state before he gets to work. “This isn’t that bad, I’ll get her fixed up.”
Killer continues begging and crying at your side, laughter coming through and tainting his pain. Chopper’s working as fast as he can but too soon he’s stopped as fire engulfs the room. Everyone in the room is up and starting to run as Heat’s hand lands on Killer’s back. “Kil, grab her, we have to go.”
Killer lifts you back up, one hand carefully supporting your upper back as he tries to keep your head safely in the crook of his neck. The two men are spiriting back to their crew, to where they left the remains of the last fight. Killer gets there first and collapses at Kid’s feet. Holding your unconscious body tightly to his as he sobs, laughs, and falls apart under his captain. He can’t get you out of here if the island is a flying fireball.

Sanji’s thumbs slowly ease off the triggers, heart swelling as he listens to you laugh next to him. He only goes full pressure again once your water line is well above his. The buzzer goes off. His arms are already open as you jump into them. “I told you, Sanji! You can’t beat me at carnival games!”
He smiles at you, pressing a kiss to your temple as you turn to the game host. “Pick your prize, my love.” You point towards a small red lobster. The host grabs it and hands it over to you. You happily hold it up for Sanji to look at, the sparkle in your eyes meeting the confusion in his.
His arm wraps around your waist, guiding you towards the next game. “Why a lobster, sweetheart?”
“Because lobsters fall in love and mate for life. Like us.” Sanji finally raises a hand to hold it. “When we get to Fishman Island, we should look for old lobster couples, walking around holding claws.” You giggle and Sanji swears he falls in love all over again.
Sanji holds onto your little lobster, the one you picked because you were thinking about him, for the next handful of games you both play.
It’s not long before you end up in line for the ferris wheel. “We need to have fun on the islands we visit more often.”
“I agree. I don’t get to take you out enough, princess.” The line moves and you both get closer to the front, one group before you get to go on.
Your gondola arrives and the previous riders step out. Sanji steps in front of you and holds out his hand to help you onto the still rocking surface. You step inside and hold your hand out for him, giving him the same help he just gave you.
“You don’t have to do that, my love.” He smiles and red dusts his cheeks as he sits next to you, his arm going around your shoulders.
“I know I don’t have to, you handsome dork, but I want to.” You rest your head against his shoulder, settling into the gentle rocking of the gondola. “I love you, Sanji.”
He doesn’t have time to respond before you jump up, pointing down towards the ground. “Hey look, it’s the game I beat you at earlier!” You laugh as you turn back to him.
He fakes offense and lifts the small lobster up near the edge. “Look there, buddy, it’s your first home.”
You pout as your hand lands on his wrist, the other one grabbing the front of the lobster. “Don’t drop our child.”
Your brows furrow as your eyes meet. Sanji’s widen as he tightens his grip on the lobster. “I would never drop our child.” The determination on his face makes you laugh.
You’re both quiet as the ferris wheel stops, leaving you at the top. Sanji watches you, hearts in his eyes, as you look out. “We can see the entire archipelago from here.” Your voice is quiet, soft enough that it warms his heart.
Looking back at him, the smile that appears on your face matches the soft one on his. You bite back a laugh as you look down at the lobster. “I don’t think it’s safe for Snapster to be hanging out this high.” You try to force a serious face as your eyes move up to Sanji’s.
“Oh no, definitely not safe for Snapster up here.” Your smile grows as you watch Sanji safely tuck Snapster into his front pocket. “He’s all safe now.”
Sanji’s hands are still near Snapster, still slowly looking up to you, when your hands land on his face. You whisper, feeling like it’s the loudest sound in the world this high up. “I love you, Sanji.”
His face lights up, his hands gently landing on your waist. “I love you, (y/n).” A soft smile tugs at his lips as he lets you pull him in. Your lips meet in a soft and slow kiss, both of you savoring the moment until the ferris wheel moves again.
Laughter erupts from both of you as you fall into Sanji’s lap. “I guess it’s not safe for us up here either.” The twinkle in his eyes meets yours.
Once your gondola is back on the ground, you step out first, holding a hand out for Sanji to follow. His cheeks are dusted pink as he squeezes your hand and lets you lead him further through the park.
Only one more game gets played, Sanji smiling as he watches you beat him again, before you both hear the sounds of a battle breaking out.
“You don’t think…?” You slowly turn to Sanji, reaching out to grab his hand again as he leads you towards the noise.
“Yep. That’s definitely our circus and our monkeys.” You sigh as Sanji drags you back towards your crew. Can’t even have one day off.
The crew is quickly gathered and Usopp lets you and Sanji know what just happened. The navy is here and they have new machines they are using to fight pirates. Luffy decides the crew needs to split up, you can all meet back at the ship in three days.
Sanji’s hands are on your face, gently cupping your cheeks as you look into his eyes. You’re both looking through tears as you speak. “Keep Snapster safe, Sanji. We have to show him his new home in three days.”
“I will, sweetheart. Snapster is safe with me.” A small smile ghosts past your lips as Sanji kisses your forehead. “I’ll see you in three days. Stay safe for me, my love.”
“I will. Stay safe for me, my handsome dork.” He cracks a small smile.
“Always.” Sanji’s hands drop off your face as he pulls you into a hug that you quickly return.
Usopp yells your name, reaching towards you. “C’mon, we gotta go!”
Sanji’s hand lingers in yours as Nami starts to pull him away. You give him one last squeeze and a small smile as you both head in opposite directions. It’s only three days. We’ll be okay.
Sanji pushes Snapster deeper into his pocket, making sure the lobster is secure as he runs after Nami and Franky. Usopp pulls you with as he follows Zoro and Brook.
Kuma, the machine the marines sent after your crew, comes to your group first. Zoro pushes you all behind him as he takes on the fight. It looks like he’s winning until Kuma hits Zoro and you all watch your crewmate disappear. “Zoro!!”
A few blocks away, Sanji recognizes your scream. “Nami, Franky, we have to go help them.” They both quickly agree as Brook’s name is screamed next.
Sanji gets to the block you and Usopp are at quickly enough that he watches Kuma approach Usopp. He watches his crewmate disappear into thin air. Nami slams into his back as his eyes move to you.
You’re staring at the space in front of you. The space Usopp was just occupying. Entirely frozen in place. You don’t move until Sanji screams your name. He’s running towards you. Not even ten feet away. He’s so close. He can get to you. Your eyes turn to meet his. You start to run, screaming his name. The desperation in both of your voices shakes the archipelago as you scream for each other. We can’t be separated. Not like this. Please don’t take me from him.
Kuma approaches you. Hitting you and making you disappear only a foot from Sanji. If he was half a second faster. If he didn’t tell Nami and Franky to follow when he heard you. He could’ve made it. He could’ve saved you. He’s stuck. Hands holding the space you were just in. Tears streaming down his face.
Nami screams his name, watching in horror as Kuma hits him next. Her and Franky run, not knowing what to do after five crew members just disappeared.

On the day the crew was supposed to meet back up on the Thousand Sunny, you finally slam into the ground. Or you slam into a couple people. More than a couple, really. There’s loud music all around you and the crowd lifts you up like people fall out of the sky every day. You’re pushed around as everyone dances, tears streaming down your face as you try to figure out where you are.
Everytime you spot a wall and try to pull yourself out of the crowd, someone pushes you back in. Hands all over your body, keeping you from getting free. Keeping you from figuring out where you landed. Keeping you from a moment to breathe. A moment to process. A moment to wish Sanji was here.
The sun was high in the sky when you crashed onto this island. It’s starting to disappear beyond the horizon as you collapse. Knees slam into the concrete. Head falls into your lap. Hands cover your ears. Sobs shake your body.
“Hey, is that one of the Straw Hats?” Arms wrap around your waist, lifting you off the ground before they carry you out of the crowd. You’re set back on the ground. Slowing moving your arms down, your eyes slowly move up the body of the person who saved you. Black work boots, blue pants, yellow shirt, cigar in his mouth. Paulie.
You blink a few times. Slowly looking around to see if you didn’t recognize Water Seven.
He squats down to your level, waiting for your eyes to focus on his face. “Why are you in San Faldo?”
You squeeze your eyes shut, trying to figure out what happened. “We were on Saboady, fighting the navy. I don’t know how I got here. We were attacked and I just landed in the middle of this party a few hours ago I think.” Paulie’s face is neutral as he processing everything you tell him. “Is this Water Seven?”
He shakes his head. “It’s an island on the Sea Train route. Do you want to come back to Water Seven with me? We can figure out what happened and how to get you back to your crew.”
You nod, taking his outstretched hand to help you up. Unknowingly, you travel closer to Sanji as you and Paulie take the sea train to Water Seven.

Sanji lands on Momoiro Island and he lands hard. Groans spill from his lips as he makes sure he can still feel his whole body. His hand quickly flies up, making sure Snapster is still safely in his pocket. He lets out a sigh before opening his eyes and sitting up.
His fear is immediate as he looks up to the large amount of okamas looking down at him. Snapster is slowly further secured in his pocket before he’s up and running. He runs the entire length of the island, looking and searching. Hoping he can find you. He hits the shore for the sixth time and collapses onto himself as the okamas close in.
He screams out towards the ocean. Tears streaming down his face. Where are you, my love? His heart falls to the pit of his stomach as its contents empty onto the beach. He falls, landing hard on his back as every tiny piece of his broken heart falls into the sand.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Iceberg meets you and Paulie at the station on Water Seven with a huge smile and a quick hug. “Welcome back, (y/n). What brings you here?”
You recount the story as you told it to Paulie, adding in extra details you didn’t think of before. Both men have pity in their eyes as they listen.
“I’m so sorry. You are more than welcome to stay here on Water Seven until you can find your crew and safely return to them.” Iceberg gives you a small supportive smile. “I can find you a place to stay, we may have an extra room in-”
“She can stay with me. I have a spare room.” Paulie cuts Iceberg off before quickly turning to you. “If that’s okay with you.”
Giving him a small nod, you give him an even smaller smile. “Just until I can get back to my crew. I promise.”
“Stay as long as you need.”
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
A few weeks later, a News Coo flies by Paulie’s house, dropping a newspaper by the door. Paulie gets up from the table to grab it, eyes wide as he walks back towards you. He pulls the cigar out of his mouth, letting you know the breaking news before tossing you the paper. “Your captain directly challenged the authority of the marines.”
Your eyes widen to match his as you take the paper and read it. Straw Hat Luffy is alive! Sixteen rings for the New World at Marineford. Spotting the writing on his arm, you turn back to Paulie. “Is it alright if I stay here for two years?”
“Of course.”
It’s not long before you and Paulie get into a routine of the news over breakfast, working all day at the shipyard, and dinners with Iceberg. He quickly trains you into a shipwright worthy of working at the Galley-La company, and worthy of sailing with the future king of the pirates.
Most days, you happily follow Paulie’s lead. Working hard to prove your worth in the shipyard.
Most nights, you can’t sleep. Sitting up on the bed in the room Paulie lets you call home. Tears streaming down your face as you struggle to get a wink of sleep. Struggling to get comfy. Struggling to get your mind to rest. Your thoughts are on Sanji. On all the adventures you had. On all the love you share. On the home you created in your cabin on the Thousand Sunny.
Most nights you wish you could fold the Grand Line in half so that you could be with him again.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
One island over in Paradise, Sanji gets the newspaper. He sees Luffy’s message. He accepts the two year wait if that’s what Luffy needs. His heart shatters. He cries as he thinks about spending the next two years without you. Snapster comes out of his pocket and up to his lips. We didn’t even get to show Snapster his new home, my love.
The okamas don’t give Sanji the space he needs to grieve this lost time with you. The further he runs, the more he’s chased, the more he’s cornered, he gets stronger with each passing day. Constantly training as he constantly runs. He checks no less than every five minutes to make sure he still has Snapster. To make sure he didn’t lose the one part of you he got to take with him.
He sleeps up a tree, in the safety of the branches, where the okama won’t find him and won’t chase him. He sleeps, or says he does. He hasn’t slept a wink since Sabaody. Since he watched you disappear right in front of his eyes. When you were almost within reach before you were gone. When he almost had you in his arms before he can’t hold you for two years. Throughout their nights on Momoiro Island, Snapster gets more and more soaked in Sanji’s tears.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
During a nightly dinner with Iceberg and Paulie, you share the adventures your crew has gone on since leaving Water Seven. Updating them on how Franky’s doing as they happily listen, both excited to hear about their old friend.
Iceberg’s face softens as you sidebar into cute stories about Sanji, telling them about all the side quests he lets you join on each island, giving you both a chance to adventure by yourself together.
“I can tell you miss him. It’s always been clear you love each other.” Iceberg sets his hand on the table near you, giving you a silent opening to reach out if you need to.
Your hand lands on his, giving it a small squeeze as you give him a small smile. “I really miss him. I miss the whole crew. Two years is a long time.”
The two men give you small nods, Iceberg squeezing your hand back as Paulie gives your shoulder a squeeze. “You’ll be back with them soon.” Your eyes meet Paulie’s as he speaks, spotting the sadness in his eyes as he remembers one of many nights he woke up to your yearning.
The scream ringing through the house jolts Paulie out of his slumber. He grumbles as he pulls pants on, heading over to your room to check on you. He opens the door to silently watch you frantically digging through the blankets, completely covered in sweat as you mumble Sanji’s name, asking where Snapster went. Paulie only watches for a few minutes before he comes to sit beside you on the bed, carefully taking the blankets out of your hands. He takes your wrists in his hands, making you look up to him. “Where is he?” Paulie’s heart aches as he works to calm you down.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Sanji’s cornered. He’s got no where to run. The okamas are on all sides. Sanji tries to attack, kicking once. Kicking twice. By the third kick, he realizes he’s no longer on the ground. The fourth and fifth kicks get him higher up and he shouts, laughter erupting from his body. His first Sky Walk is rough, but he smiles as he looks down at the island.
His body quickly starts plummeting to the ground as he thinks about how excited you would be to see this. His body is thrown through the trees, tears streaming down his face as sobs wreck through his body. He lands with a hard thud, not moving for a long time as he falls apart.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Paulie helps you build a small boat, a piece of Water Seven to take with you, something to show all that you’ve learned, as you prepare to leave. One of his shipwrights in the company gets you an eternal pose set for Sabaody, sliding a map of Paradise into your hand with it.
Iceberg swings by as you’re both working, laying down the blueprints for the Thousand Sunny on Paulie’s work table. “Franky had designed this ship ages before he built it. These might help you make something you can safely store on board.”
Paulie looks over the blueprints, comparing them to the ones you and him made. You smile at Iceberg, thanking him as he heads back out.
The three of you have one last meal together, breakfast this time, before they bid you a farewell. Hugging them both, you thank them more times than they believe necessary as you try not to cry.
“I’ll never be able to repay you both for the home you’ve provided over the past two years. I owe you both my life.” You wave from your ship as you start to sail away.
Paulie waves back with a much bigger smile than Iceberg as. “Tell Franky we wish him well!”
Iceberg gives you a small salute as you swear you spot a little sadness in his eyes. He watches you and Paulie continue waving at each other until your little ship turns into a dot on the horizon.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
A day later, Sanji sets sail from Momoiro Island, both excited and nervous to see you again. He’s about half a day behind you, unknowingly following you across the Grand Line on your way back home. He secures Snapster in his pocket for the journey, making sure the lobster’s head is peaking out and he can see the adventure, too.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
You arrive at Sabaody second, spotting Zoro napping on deck as you get your ship into the spot Paulie suggested. You decide to head out onto the archipelago, hopeful you can find other crewmates.
Ending up walking through the amusement park, you’re shocked by the size of the crowd. One body slams into yours, then another. After the third body and a scream right in your ear, you’re on the ground. Reliving that night from two years ago. Knees slamming into the concrete. Hands on your ears. Head tucked as low as it will go. Tears start to stream down your face as you try to will yourself to be anywhere else.
Sanji arrives on the Sunny and spots both a sleeping swordsman and your backpack, leaned against the door to below deck. He heads down, looking all over the ship for you before heading back up to deck. He glances at the crows nest before looking out to the island.
He sighs, making his way back off the ship, wishing you could’ve been the first thing he saw upon returning. His bag is left on the ship, but Snapster is still secure in his pocket.
He gets to the amusement park and spots you collapse on yourself. He’s running towards you. Only ten feet away. His movements speed up, not willing to let himself be too late again. He lands by your side, hands hovering above your shoulders like he’s trying to decide if it’s really you.
You’re too absorbed in your panic to look up, or even notice, when Sanji lands beside you.
His hands continue hovering. He tries whispering comforting words, not sure what to say to make it better. Too scared of making it worse to touch you.
He lowers his hands and takes Snapster out of his pocket. He gently holds him under your head and waits.
Your sobs start to slow, your breathing trying to level out before you whisper, confusion dripping off the word. “Snapster…?” Your arms slow come down as you take the lobster in one hand.
As soon as you realize it’s real, your fear ridden eyes shoot up to meet Sanji’s worried ones. “Sanji…?” He slowly nods before your arms are quickly around his neck. Tears soaking his shirt as you cling to him.
His arms come around your waist, pulling you in close as he tucks his head in your neck. His heart aches as he takes in your familiar scent, now coated in the added smell of a hard day’s work. “Hi, my love. I’m sorry I didn’t make it to you in time”
“Hi, my handsome dork. You made it in time today.”
You step back as Sanji helps you stand. His hands quickly move to your shoulders as yours grab his wrists. Snapster stays tucked between your hand and his wrist. Both of your eyes drop, scanning the changes the other has gone through over the past two years.
“Sanji, did your legs somehow get stronger?”
“My love, you look like you could bench mosshead.” You giggle as he pulls you into a tight hug.
The next couple of hours are spent hanging off of each other, always having at least one hand on the other as you both shop for food for your crew.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Sanji’s hand is in yours, fingers intertwined as you carry the food back to the ship. The bags are piled on the counter as you help him put everything away. He tells you about the horrors he experienced on Momoiro Island and the cool new tricks he’s dying to show you.
You tell him you spent the past two years in Franky’s hometown, learning how to be a shipwright from the company he apprenticed at. You drag him away from the kitchen to show him the ship you and Paulie built. He admires it with care as you watch his face light up. You point out all the quirks, everything you added to make it your own. He fails to bite back a smile as he looks up to you.
He wraps an arm around your shoulders, pulling you in as you finish. His lips land on your temple as you admire your own creation.
On your way back up to the galley, a new excitement fills your body. “I can’t wait to show Franky the ship.” Sanji drops his head onto yours, joy in his heart for the first time in years.
Despite coming back to the galley to keep working, you both end up on the couch. Sanji’s on his back as you lay on top of him, running your fingers through his hair as you give him a lot of funny hairstyles.
“I really missed you, Sanji.” His heart aches, tears starting to fall as you tell him how much you were aching to get him back. You wipe away his tears, gently cupping his cheeks as you pull him into a soft kiss.
His eyes are still glistening as he leans his head back. One of his hands comes up to cup the side of your neck, the other landing on the small of your back. “I missed you so much, my love.” He tells you how badly he was aching, how much he hated the island and how much worse it was without you there. Your arms wrap around him as you lay your head on his chest, listening to the steady thud of his heart as your own tears start to fall.
He holds you close as you both drift off to sleep.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
You both know the second Luffy returns because he jumps right on top of you, pushing you deeper against Sanji’s body. Both now very awake, you turn to your captain as he asks for food.
Sanji grumbles, heading over to make something easy as the crew gathers around the counter. Seeing that he’s making something simple, you move over and wrap your arms around him as your head rests on his back. His body relaxes as he continues cooking. You both smile listening to the stories your crewmates tell of their past two years.
After a delicious simple lunch, the crew all exchanges hugs before parting ways to get the Sunny ready to sail. Sanji’s hand is in yours as you call out to Franky, not letting him leave the galley quite yet. “I have to show you something.”
Confusion lines his features as he follows you down to the belly of the ship. His excitement grows as you tell him where you spent the past two years. “Both Iceberg and Paulie wanted me to say hi for them. They both miss you and are glad we’re doing well as a crew.”
The tears that are lining the bottom of Franky’s eyes start to fall as he takes in the ship you and Paulie built. You proudly smile at Franky while Sanji wraps himself around you, resting his head on your shoulder. “This is super! The detail, it’s all so-” He cuts himself off as he moves closer, admiring the care you and Paulie put into the ship. “How did you match it to the Sunny so well?”
“Iceberg still has your original blueprints. We worked with them to edit mine.” You laugh as Franky smiles. “Is this an okay spot for it to stay?”
“Of course!” Franky’s smile grows as he reaches a fist up. You bump yours against his before he excitedly mentions wanting to work in the own workshop for a bit.
“Have fun, Franky!” You smile at each other before Sanji unwraps himself, taking your hand again to lead you back to your cabin.
As soon as you get into your room, Sanji turns to you. Before he can say or do anything, you judgingly look down at his outfit. “As much as I like you in a suit, you’re much more cuddly in comfier clothes.” You pout at him as you quickly change out of your travel clothes and into his comfiest clothes. Carefully taking Snapster out of his pocket, you step back so he can change.
“You took the comfiest of the clothes, my love. What do you expect me to wear?” His sweet smile betrays the annoyance in his words.
Humming in response, you climb into bed while watching him. “Where did we leave your green sweatshirt?” He thinks for a minute, watching you tuck Snapster into the corner of the bed, before opening your closet. “And put on comfy pants!”
He peeks his head back out with an attempted glare towards you but your sweet smile brings out his own. He quickly changes and climbs into bed next to you, tightly wrapping his arms around your waist.
You carefully take his head in your hands, tipping it up so he’s facing you. “Hi, my handsome dork.” You press a gently kiss to his nose, sending a wave of red creeping up his neck.
“Hi, my love.” He tries to bury his face into your chest but you bend down to press a kiss to his forehead before he can. His smiles grows and his eyes drift closed as you press another soft kiss to the side of his mouth.
When you let your lips fully meet his, one of his hands moves up to the side of your neck. He softly kisses you back, smiling into the kiss as his heart swells.
You both pull back with soft smiles on your lips and pure adoration in your eyes. “I love you.” He finally settles his face into your chest, nuzzling his body closer to yours.
Tangling your legs with his, you press one last soft kiss to the top of his head. Your hold on him tightens as you start to drift to sleep.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
The crew’s only been on Fishman Island for a few hours. Havoc has already been wreaked. Chaos has already ensued. But there’s a smile on your face as Sanji pulls you along, needing you to urgently see something.
He stops you close to a small pond. You lean into him, following the line of his arm as he points. His other arms wraps around your waist. Your smile grows as you watch the old lobster couple taking a stroll on the beach, holding claws.
Summary: You're struggling with your first kill. Luckily, your crew's swordsman is able to support.

Zoro heads up to the crow’s nest, prepared for his usual post-training afternoon nap. The last thing he expected was to see you curled into yourself, staring out at the open ocean. You don’t acknowledge his arrival to the crow’s nest. He says your name but doesn’t hear your usual greeting. You don’t turn to face him. You don’t move a muscle as he carefully sits down besides you. Close enough to be a supporting force but not close enough to touch.
He waits for a minute before saying anything. “Hey… everything okay?”
“How do you do it?” His heart aches at the pain in your voice.
“Do what?” His brows furrow, watching your still figure.
“Kill other people and just walk away from it.” Zoro freezes at your words, expecting literally anything else.
He’s quiet for a moment, thinking about the best way to answer. “It gets easier over time.”
You both fall into silence. You finally turn your head to face Zoro, still curled in on yourself. “Do you remember the first person you killed?”
He breifly looks up to your before staring back out to the ocean. “No.”
Your eyes follow his line of sight, watching a school of fish swim near the ship.
Zoro lets out a sigh, leaning back against the wall. “Yes.”
Your eyes stay glued on the water, but your hold on your body starts to give. “How long does it take to get easier?”
Turning to face him, you watch as he holds his arm up, giving you space to lean into him. You let your legs fall as you shooch over, wrapping your arms around him as you lean against his chest. His arm drops across your back.
“I can take care of the worst of our enemies. Don’t kill anyone else. Knocking them out is enough for us to win.” You nod against his chest, a few tears starting to slip out as he tightens his hold on you.
Zoro settles his chin on the top of your hand, carefully laying his swords down as he wraps his other arm around you. The two of you stay there, silently watching the ocean as you slowly fall apart in his arms.

Zoro’s words hold true in your crew’s next battle. You’re fighting alongside Usopp, knocking enemies out but neither of you killing them. You see Zoro and Sanji in the distance, significantly closer to where Luffy is fighting the big boss. Both of them are taking out the rival pirate crew’s officers, not flinching at all as pirates fall to the ground in pieces or on fire.
Zoro catches your eye across the battlefield, mouthing a quick you okay? and smiling as you nod.
Usopp grabs your arm, pulling you back towards the ship. “Zoro and Sanji have the rest, let’s go!” You smile to Zoro, thankful for his support and willingness to kill the bad guys for you.

Kid stands at the railing of the Victoria Punk, you at his side leaning on his arm. Nerves creep up your body, knowing Kid wants to take down Shanks and wanting to support your boyfriend but also remembering all that the Red Hair Pirates did for you and your brother.

Watching Luffy run around Partys Bar, you laugh as Shanks and Makino yell at him to stop. You’re sat in Benn’s lap, happily eating the lunch Makino set in front of you and starting to steal some of Luffy’s.
“Hey! Don’t take my food, (y/n)!” Luffy runs up and climbs onto Shanks’ lap, stealing his food back from you.
“You have to eat it if you want it, Luffy! I’m not saving anything for you!” You stick your tongue out at him, snagging one more bite of his food before jumping off Benn’s lap and running out of the bar, Makino’s voice trailing after you.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
You’re sitting on top of the bar at Partys, watching Makino work when Shanks and Luffy come back, both covered in blood. You jump off the counter, running over to your brother. “Luffy, what happened? Who hurt you?” He shakes his head, falling into your arms as he cries.
You look up to Shanks, hoping for answers. Your eyes widen, tears starting to slip out as you notice he’s missing an arm. You read the fear and pain on his face as he approaches his crew. Makino and Benn both come immediately up to him, helping to bandage his arm and make sure he’s okay otherwise.
Once Makino is satisfied that Benn can handle Shanks, she comes over to you and Luffy, bringing the young boy into her arms and making sure he’s not hurt. You watch Benn carefully tie a cloth around Shanks’ shoulder, securing the fabric so that it slows the blood loss. He passes Shanks a cup of water and cleans the blood of the rest of his body, checking for other injuries.
The fear and anger in Benn’s eyes scares you. The normally relaxed and level-headed pirate you’ve always looked up to panicking internally. You watch for longer than you shoulder before Makino comes back and pulls you away.

As the Red Hair Pirates prepare to leave Windmill Village for the last time, you sit alongside Luffy on crates in the hut near the docks. He grumbles about being left behind as you sadly swing your legs. Shanks spots you both and drags Benn over with him.
Benn lifts you off the crate and moves you over to a crate on the other side of the hut before lowering himself to your level. You pout at him, trying to look angry through your sadness. “Why can’t you take us with you? We’ll be good.”
Benn gives you a soft smile. “I know you’d be good but the life of piracy is no place for kids. I’ll see you in the Grand Line in the future, right? You’re the bravest kid I know, you’ll be an incredible pirate one day.”
You return his smile as the tears start falling from your eyes. He reaches up to wipe them away. “I’ll see you on the Grand Line, Benn.”
His hand drops off your face as he reaches into his pocket, taking out a dark green bracelet. He carefully takes your hand, sliding the bracelet onto your wrist. “So you know I’m always watching out for you. Stay strong, (y/n), watch out for Luffy.” You nod, throwing your arms around Benn’s neck as he gladly returns your hug.
Benn and Shanks head back to their ship, bidding farewell to the rest of the village, thanking them for their hospitality before setting sail.
You sit side by side with Luffy on the dock, watching their ship dip beyond the horizon.
“Shanks gave you his hat.” Luffy smiles over at you despite the sadness in his eyes.
“Benn gave you a bracelet that matches his pants.” You chuckle as you wrap an arm around him, pulling him into your side.

You work alongside Kid in his workshop, helping him with his newest creation. He’s telling you about his meeting with Killer, Heat, and Wire this morning. He mentions the crew’s plan to take down Shanks, noting your immediate reaction; your body freezing as your eyes go wide. “You got a problem with that?”
“I can’t fight Shanks.” You still don’t move, eyes dropping to the table.
He leans back in his chair, arms draping over the sides of it, one hand on the table, one on the back of your chair, as he takes you in. “You won’t fight for this crew?”
Your head quickly turns, eyes meeting with his. “I would fight for this crew in every battle, Kid, you know that. But Shanks and his crew saved me and my brother. I can’t fight him.”
Kid’s tongue roams his mouth as he takes in your fidgeting hands and anxious expression. “You’re choosing a damn emperor over your own boyfriend?”
“No, I choose you every time. I’ll stand behind you, I just can’t be the one to hurt them.” You can’t read his reaction, nerves speeding through your body as you try to figure out if he’s actually mad.
He sits back up, returning to his previous task. “Fine. Do what you want but don’t get in the damn way.” The breath you didn’t know you were holding escapes as you turn to help him.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Kid grumbles as he feels you smile at your childhood memories. Your face is buried in his skin as you think about how long it’s been since you’ve seen Luffy. You left his crew in Alabasta, sailing with Ace briefly before setting off on your own. You haven’t seen Ace since then and haven’t seen Luffy since Saboady, when your boyfriend made a quick enemy of him.
“Are you going to snap out of this once it’s done?” Kid’s voice pulls you out of your thoughts as you look up at him, moving your head away from him to meet his eyes. He’s still glaring at the Red Force, still watching it move closer as he mentally prepares to attack.
“I’ll be fine if this is what you need to do.”
“We need his ponegliffs if we want to find the One Piece.”
“I know, Kid. Are you sure it’s okay if I stay here and don’t join the fight?”
“If you’re not willing to fight for this crew, just don’t get in the damn way.”
“Kid, that’s not-” He walks away from you as the Victoria Punk gets close enough to attack and your crew is quick to drop the planks and run across. You grab his arm before he walks across the plank. “Be safe.” He finally smiles at you, his usual shit eating grin on his face before he takes off towards the Red Force.
You nervously watch from the railing of your ship as your original pirate family fights against your current family. Secretly hoping no one gets hurt and Shanks can get your crew to leave, your hopes are quickly vanquished as you watch Benn approach Kid.
Your heart drops, your legs already carrying you over the closest plank as Benn takes one swing of a sword and cuts Kid’s arm right off. You’re at his side before he hits the ground, one arm around his shoulders, holding him up, as your hand lands on his cheek turning him to face you. “Kid, hey baby, you’re okay. I’ve got you.” You rip your jacket off, using the fabric to try to tie the same makeshift tourniquet you watched Benn tie years earlier.
Killer and Heat land at your sides, taking Kid from you and stopping the distraction from the sandpit you’re trapped in. You’re stuck between the pirates who helped raise you and the love of your life. The love of your life who was about to bleed out in your arms, potentially dying on your ship right now from the hands of the man who helped raise you.
You slowly rise, turning to Benn as your voice raises. “Benn, how could you?! Your captain knows the pain of losing a limb, of losing an arm! How could you do that to someone else?!” Not recognizing you after so many years, Benn raises his arm, ready to give you the same fate as Kid. It’s only when you raise your sword to block it that he spots the bracelet.
“(y/n)...?” His arms drop, giving up all the fight in his body as he finally recognizes you. He doesn’t want to support this attack if it’s against your crew. If this is your family. If this is your home.
Your eyes briefly land on Kid’s arm laying on the deck next to you and you don’t hear Benn. You don’t see him give up his fight. Your sword is coming down, about to hit him, about to commit a murder you would regret for the rest of your life, when you feel yourself get pulled back. The grip on your sword tightens, legs raising above the railings as you fly back to your own ship.
Kid pulls on the metal belt around your waist until you land in his lap, your back hitting his chest as he wraps his arm tightly around you. “Don’t do that. I’ve got you.”
Your eyes drop to the blood along his side, feeling the warmth soak into your clothes. Your arms wrap around his, sinking into yourself as you let the fear, shock, and sadness take over your body. You’re with Kid, he’s still alive, you’re both safe.
Kid pulls the rest of the crew back to the ship. He lifts you up with him as he stands, yelling to Heat and Wire to sail away from here as fast as possible. He carries you below deck as you crumble into tears in his hold.
Could I request an established relationship Sanji x Reader fic during the Sabaody arc? I’d love to see the sheer desperation of them trying to reach each other before Kuma sends them away, then the agonizing two years of pining and separation. Please end it with a lot of fluff/comfort during their reunion on the Sunny, where all that repressed emotion finally boils over!! Thanks 🥹☺️
deepest apologies for the delay in responding to this! i got super bogged down in my Sanji/Ace/Penguin series and grad school work :(
i love love love this request and am working on in as we speak, will have it out this week, either tuesday or wednesday depending on queue placement!! 🥰😊
Summary: Penguin's not normally late to his shifts with you. What could be happening to make him not show up at all?
Warnings: sad penguin :(
Author’s Note: if you catch easter eggs in here, no you don't. i'm on my oneshot grind rn, totally not adding to a pre-existing series

The past eight months of your life have been spent on the Polar Tang. You got into a good routine with the crew, spending each of your shifts with either Penguin or Shachi. You get to the boiler room first this morning, figuring out what needs to happen for the day as you wait for Penguin to arrive.
A few minutes after he should’ve gotten here, Shachi walks in. Staying by the door, he doesn’t stop by for long. “Penguin isn’t working today. I’m going to talk to Cap about moving shifts around. I’ll be back in a few minutes.”
You nod but Shachi doesn’t see as he’s already heading for Law’s office. Turning back to what you were looking at, you continuing working.
About ten more minutes go by and Shachi hasn’t returned. Your nerves are already high worried about Penguin but they continue to rise being alone in the boiler room for the first time. You decide to go check on Penguin, the boiler room can wait.
You’re quiet as you walk through the ship’s hallways, stopping in front of his door and hesitating for a moment. You knock and wait for any response. After there’s none, you knock again and slowly open the door.
“Go away, Shachi.” Your heart aches at the sadness in his voice. Gently closing the door, you make your way over to his bed.
Penguin hears the door shut and instantly knows it’s not Shachi. He would’ve said something. He rolls over as your soft footsteps get closer to him. His eyes meet yours and he quickly tries to wipe the tears off his face. “Hey fiery girl, what are you doing here?”
He wasn’t expecting a response. His eyes widen as he watches you take off your boots and boiler suit, leaving you in a comfy shirt and a pair of shorts. He freezes as you climb onto his bed next to him, wrapping your arms around him and pulling him close.
One of your hands moves into his hair to scratch at his scalp as the other runs along his spine. Penguin’s body relaxes into yours as you pull his head down to your chest. His arms slowly wrap around you before he tightly squeezes your body and falls apart in your arms.
He whispers an “I’m sorry” against you as you press your lips to the top of his head. You silently hold him, continuing to scratch his scalp and rub his back, doing what you can to let him know you’ve got him.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Shachi heads back to the boiler room, having worked with Law to rearrange the schedule. He got Haku moved to cover his navigation shift so he can cover Penguin’s boiler room shift.
As he enters the boiler room, he finds it empty. He groans before walking back to his room. He really should’ve come up with an excuse that wouldn’t result in you feeling the need to check in.
He gets to the door and slowly opens it, seeing you and Penguin asleep in each other’s arms. He grumbles something about having to cover two shifts instead of one but smiles as he sees his friend calm and relaxed, a much better state than he was in all of last night.
Shachi moves Penguin’s comforter over your bodies before softly shutting the door and heading back to the boiler room to cover both of your shifts.

I could have lost you. Luffy’s words ring through your mind the rest of the morning, frequently echoed by Franky’s. Don’t ever let yourself be the reason he loses a member of his crew.
You’re currently in your cabin, sitting on the edge of your bed starting at the floor. Was it really that bad? Everyone made it out. Everyone made it back. Why does it matter how it happened?
You slowly stand, heading out of your cabin to find Luffy on the masthead. He hears you coming and slides back down to deck. “Luffy, I’m-” He walks past you, down below deck, leaving the words caught on your tongue as you watch his retreating figure.
Trying a few more times that day and the next, you’re at a lost as to how to get your captain to talk to you again. It only took a few hours for the rest of the crew to get back to normal, all acting like nothing weird is going on.
For the most part, everything is normal. Zoro still trains on deck, Nami works on her maps, Franky’s in his workshop, Sanji’s cooking in the galley. Everything is normal until you arrive at the next island.
On the usual rotation, it should be Usopp and Brook watching the ship. But when Luffy finally talks to you again, the rotation seems to be ignored. “You’re staying here. Sanji, stay with her, don’t let her off this ship.” Your heart drops as the crew looks at you with pity. Luffy spares you only a small glance as he tells you to stay. Not even looking at you long enough to finish the sentence. “If someone attacks the ship, handle it yourself. Don’t let her get involved in anymore fights.”
Tears slip down your face as you hear the anger still in Luffy’s voice. Your heart finally statters as he walks away, immediately excited for a new adventure as soon as you’re out of sight.
“It’ll be okay, cherie. He’ll forgive you soon.” Sanji rubs a soothing hand along your arm before he turns towards the galley, thankful for some peace and quiet to meal prep for the next few days.
His peace doesn’t last long as you make your way to the galley ten minutes later, sitting on a stool opposite him as you watch him work. He diverts his attention enough to make you a small snack and slide it across the counter to you. You stare at it, picking at it a little while he continues to eye you while he works.
“Sweetheart, he’ll-”
“No. He won’t, Sanji. Have any of you ever seen him this mad at a member of the crew?” Sanji shakes his head with a frown. He watches you continue to pick at the snack, gears turning in your head. “Can I help you with meal prep?”
A small smile comes to his lips as he nods. “Of course, love.” He slides over as you round the island. The two of you stand side by side as he talks you through the prep he’s doing.
Silence comes back to the galley as you both work side by side, making sure the crew can eat for a few more days.
Sanji breaks the silence after a while. “If you want, I can help you make one of his favorite foods. You can bring it to him as an olive branch. Might help him listen to an apology.” His expression softens as you look up at him, uncertainty lining your features. “It will help. I promise. We’ll make all his favorites.”
You slowly nod, hopeful for anything that helps break the tension between you and Luffy. Anything that gets your captain to talk to you again.
Sanji helps you as he walks you through making all of Luffy’s favorite snacks. By the time the rest of the crew returns, you have a small box filled to the top. “Thank you, Sanji.”
“Of course, sweets. Good luck.” He sweetly smiles at you, sadness filling his heart as he watches you continue to battle the demons in your head on your way out.
You spot Luffy and Usopp leaning against the railing of the ship, watching the island shrink into the horizon.
Clearing your throat, you hesitantly approach the two. Usopp sees you first and gives you a small smile before stepping away. “Umm.. Luffy, I brought you a snack.” He looks over at you but doesn’t say anything, eyes dropping to the box as you open it.
His eyes come up to meet yours as you set the box on the railing in front of him. He looks from you to the box and back to you, clearly waiting for something else. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have put myself in added danger during that fight.” He slowly nods as he reaches for the food.
You both stand in silence, your nerves quickly increasing as he doesn’t say a word. Watching him eat until the box is empty, you fidget with the rings on your fingers, staring at the ground until he tells you to leave or stay.
“Thank you for the snack.” Your eyes shoot up to his as he hands the box back. “Don’t do it again. Don’t put yourself in immediate danger like that. Leave the hard fights to me, Zoro, and Sanji.” You quickly nod, taking the box before your arms awkwardly drop to your sides.
“I will, Luffy.” He smiles at you and pulls you into a hug.
The energy on the ship finally returns to normal. Everyone laughing and smiling as Sanji calls you all down to dinner. He smiles at you as Luffy sits at your side, throwing an arm around your shoulder as he starts on the food.

Penguin’s weight is comfortably against your side, one of his arms draped across your body loosely holding you against him, his heart thudding softly against your ear. He softly snores, his chin set on the top of your head as his legs tangle with yours. Your restful slumber is soon interrupted as Kaka, Shach, Deuce, and Uni break into your room.
Shachi’s voice tears you both out of your sleep. “Wake up sleepy heads!! You have a wedding to get ready for!!”
Uni pulls your comforter off as Pen wraps himself tighter around you, grumbling about not wanting to get up yet. You hide yourself further under Pen’s body as Deuce turns on the light.
Your hiding place is soon gone as Shachi wraps his arms around Pen’s chest, Uni grabbing his legs, as they both pull him out of your hold. Your hands stay connected long enough for Pen to frown at your pout and for I love you’s to be whispered across the room. You smile at each other before Shach and Uni take him out of the room.
Kaka moves in front of you, tightly gripping your face. “Are you ready for your makeover?” She smirks as Deuce holds the dress up behind her, a huge smile on his face. Oh, it’s perfect. Tears start to line your eyes as you nod in Kaka’s hold. Kaka lets go of you as you push yourself off the bed and walk over to Deuce, carefully running one hand down the front of the dress; a simple black strapless top flowing into a layered faded yellow skirt that falls to the knees.
“I assume you’re wearing your boots so I didn’t bother getting any shoes.” You turn back to Kaka and smile at the fact that she’s already holding Pen’s extra work boots.
Uni sneaks back into your room and grabs Pen’s boots from by the door. “Sorry, forgot these.” You smile over at him before he shuts the door again.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Shach and Uni drop Pen onto Shach’s bed before Uni mumbles something about shoes and leaves again. “Shachi.”
Shach ignores the annoyance in his friend’s voice. “Penguin. Are you ready for the best day of your life?” Pen mumbles something about it being better if he could’ve slept in with you but Shach isn’t having any of that today. “I need you to shower and snap out of your morning grumpiness.” He pulls Pen back off the bed as Uni reenters. Shach’s hands land on Pen’s face. “You are marrying the love of your life today. Wake up and let us help you get ready.” Pen nods before he’s shoved into the bathroom to shower.
Uni and Shach dig out Pen’s outfit for the day while he’s in the shower, making sure they have it all and that it’s ready for him when he comes out of the bathroom. “Shit. Where’s his hat?” Shach’s eyes widen as he also realizes that it’s missing.
“Is it in their room?” Shach is frantically digging through his own pile of clothes, somehow hopeful it’s here.
“The room they’re getting (y/n) ready in?” Uni looks up towards the bathroom door, glad he still hears the water running.
“Shit.”
“Is there a chance they already got her in the shower?” Uni gestures towards the bathroom as he talks.
“Hope so.” Shach is up and quietly opening the door, sneaking over to your room and praying you’re in the shower. He cracks the door and hears the water before stepping in.
“Shachi what are you doing here?” Kaka loudly whispers, trying not to be heard as her and Deuce get your stuff ready.
“I need the hat.” Both Kaka and Deuce’s eyes widen as they start looking around for it.
“Got it.” Deuce hands it over to Shach before he leaves, sneaking back over to his own room.
He gets in and plops himself back on the ground next to Uni right before Pen leaves the bathroom, towel loosely wrapped around his waist. Shach glares up at the top of Pen’s head. “How are you gonna wear the hat if your hair’s wet?”
“I’m gonna dry it…?” He runs a hand through his soppy wet hair, pushing it out of his face. Uni hands Pen a pair of boxers and a nice pair of black dress pants. “Please tell me there’s more than this.”
“We have your hat.” Uni laughs before Pen hits him with the pants and walks back into the bathroom. Shach fist bumps Uni before they both quickly change and wait for Pen to come back out.

The Straw Hats arrive and are sent into the submarine, right to Clione who’s running tight security. “Usopp, you’re needed in the bedroom, Haku can point you to the right room. Luffy, Nami, Zoro, and Chopper, you can all head up to deck whenever you’re ready. The rest of you can head into the galley,” He points to the door next to him. “and help prep the party, or just hang out but you have to stay in the galley.”
The crew parts ways, Usopp following Haku to your bedroom, waiting for someone to answer Haku’s knock. Deuce opens the door just a crack, peaking out to see who it is.
“Usopp!” He opens it more and steps out into the hallway, closing the door shut behind him. “We have to wait a few minutes, Kaka will get us when they’re ready.”
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Pen walks back out of the bathroom, dress pants hanging loosely below the waistband of his boxers, running a towel through his hair. He spots the red button up hanging off of Shach’s shoulders, fully unbuttoned, and the matching blue one hanging off Uni’s. His eyes widen in Shach’s direction. “We’re not-”
“We both are. We can button yours.” Shach holds up a matching faded yellow shirt as Uni steals the towel and shoves Pen closer to him.
Pen pulls the shirt on, standing mostly still as Uni dries his hair and Shach gets the shirt sitting right. The three are quiet as Uni and Shach work, Pen’s nerves slowly going up the longer they do.
Uni starts an unrelated topic, hoping to calm his nerves. “Since when does Kaka make her bed?” He finishes Pen’s hair and moves to sit on Shach’s bed.
Shach is too focused on folding Pen shirt off his chest to notice the teasing in Uni’s voice. “She doesn’t. (y/n) does when she’s on laundry duty.”
“(y/n) hasn’t been on laundry duty in over two weeks.” Pen and Uni both look over to Kaka’s perfectly made bed, over to Shach’s messy one, and at each other before laughing.
“Shut up.” Shach slaps Pen’s shoulder before reaching for his hat. “This is your day, isn’t it? Don’t worry about what’s happening in this room.”
Pen shuts up and lets Shach carefully put his hat on his head, adjusting his hair so that it’s not horribly messy when he takes it off.
Uni continues laughing. “It happens outside of this room, too, Shachi. We’ve known for a while.”
Shach glares over at Uni before handing Pen his boots.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Kaka smiles as you leave the bathroom, one arm holding a towel around your body. She holds up the dress. “Are you ready for it?” You bite your bottom lip, failing to hold back a smile as you nod. “Are you worried about the scars?” She looks down towards your thighs.
“I can wear a pair of Pen’s boxers and they’ll cover everything. If they don’t, everyone here is my family, I think they all know already.” Kaka’s smile softens as she digs out a pair of boxers and passes them to you.
You slip them on and drop the towel, letting Kaka help you get the dress on. She carefully zips up the back and turns you to face her. “God I’m jealous of Penguin. Marry me instead babe, you’re gorgeous.” You giggle as she pulls you into a hug. “Deuce, you can come back!”
The door immediately opens and Deuce is followed in by Usopp. Both men stunned into silence by how absolutely beautiful you look. Usopp doesn’t move until your arms come around his neck and he hugs you back. “Hi Usopp, I’m glad Luffy let you all come!”
Usopp looks up to Kaka’s dress and over to Deuce’s fit before looking back at you as you pull away. “I’m jealous that you all match.” Before he can drone on too long, Kaka holds up the final fit.
“Did you think you were being left out?” He looks away from the pants and tank top in Kaka’s hands and down to your sweet smile. “Only if you wanna match of course.”
“Of course I want to.” He’s already holding the clothes as Deuce points him towards the bathroom.

Hakugan and Sanji are working side by side in the kitchen, Haku mixing drinks while Sanji cooks beside him.
Pen swings by on his way up to deck and walks over to Haku, forgetting everything he was going to say as he spots him reaching for oregano. “Hey man, no oregano. It’s for savages.” He looks up to Sanji and gives him a genuine smile before looking back to Haku.
Haku’s already staring at him like he grew a second head. “What the fuck are you talking about?”
“Best cook in the East Blue would be disappointed if you put oregano on that.” Pen snags one of the already poured drinks, downing it before turning to walk out.
Haku throws the oregano right at Pen’s head as he laughs, quickly throwing his arms up to block it. “Go get married already, let us deal with the party!”
Sanji watches Pen leave the room before turning to Haku. “I though he hated me.”
Haku ignores the food, returning to the drinks as he responds. “I think he still does. But he won and we’re on our ship so he knows she’s safe no matter what you do.” Sanji pauses his cooking, his heart aching at the thought that you wouldn’t be safe with him. “He’s also incredibly excited to marry her so I think that’s overshadowing everything else.”
Sanji snaps himself out of his own pity. Today’s about you and Pen, not him. “Is he really wearing the hat to his own wedding?”
Haku smirks as he finally looks over to Sanji. “He wears the hat everywhere. But he’s not wearing it the whole wedding. He’s got a plan.”
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Penguin walks out of the kitchen and finds Marco waiting for you by the door to deck. “Hey Penguin. You look good! Are you excited?”
Pen nods, a huge smile on his face as he stops in front of Marco. “I’ve never been more excited for anything else in my life.” He leans against the wall across from Marco, smiling dropping for a minute. “If she’s hesitant, don’t force her, okay? I can wait if she’s not ready.”
Marco’s smile softens. “No one will force her out that door. I promise.” They both turn as they hear your door open.
The two share a sweet smile as Pen reaches for the knob, trying to subtly peak down the hall at you.
“Pen, go.” Marco gently pushes on his back, moving him outside. “I’ll be out with her in a few minutes.”
“Thank you, Marco.” Pen’s smile grows as he steps out and joins Shachi and Uni on deck.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Haku and Sanji stop talking as you shyly walk in and walk over to Haku, pulling him to the side. Your voice is quiet enough that no one else can hear. “I don’t trust Kaka, Deuce, or Usopp. Do I look okay?”
Haku’s eyes slowly run down your body and back up to your face. “Are you fucking with me?” You shake your head, frowning at him. “You look gorgeous, he’s gonna lose his mind. Now go get married.” He pushes you back out of the kitchen and towards Marco.
He turns back and moves back to the counter.
Sanji stopped working the second you walked in and hasn’t started again. “They’re matching.”
“Sure are. Kaka, Shach, and Clione did that. Those two don’t know yet.”
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Penguin gets up to the makeshift altar and stares at the ground as he kicks his own feet. “Hi Shanks.”
“Hi Penguin.” Shanks smiles at him, spotting the nerves. “Are you ready for this?”
Pen nods, still staring at the ground. “Marco’s making sure (y/n) is, hopefully they actually come out in a minute. I told him not to force her to but I don’t know what I’m gonna do if she doesn’t.”
“She’ll come out, just give her a minute.” Shanks rubs his hand along Pen’s shoulder.
The younger pirate looks up and spots Shanks’ ship in the distance. “How was the journey? I’m sorry your crew is stuck waiting around.”
“Don’t worry about them. They’re keeping watch to make sure nothing bad happens. The journey was good, your captain showed me around the ship earlier and I finally met most of the crew. Glad (y/n) found a good home.”
Pen smiles at Shanks before turning towards the sound of the door opening.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Haku pushes you out of the kitchen and right in front of Marco. He watches as you move into the spot Pen was standing in and start trying to smooth out your already smooth dress.
“You look great, (y/n). You have nothing to worry about.” He gently takes your hands, stopping your movements as you look up at him.
“Did you see Penguin, does he look okay? We agreed to kick everyone out and do this alone with Shanks if we look bad.”
Marco chuckles before giving you a soft smile, calming your nerves slightly. “You both look incredible. Are you ready to go marry him?” You don’t respond, looking down at your feet as you aimlessly kick them, nerves ridiculously high even though you know it’s only Pen. “If you’re not ready. I can fly us both out of here and you can come live with me until you’re ready. Penguin seems pretty eager but I’m sure he’d be okay waiting.” Marco smiles as he jokingly offers, only serious if you take him up on it.
A small laugh sneaks past your nerves as you look up at him. “I’m ready.” You take the arm Marco holds out before he leads you up to the deck.
-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-%-
Penguin’s eyes land on your boots first, slowly moving up your body until they land on the smile on your face and the love in your eyes. The smile can’t even form on his face as the tears start falling and his hand comes up to cover his mouth. You’re so unbelievably beautiful, sweetheart. I can’t believe I’m lucky enough for you to want to marry me. Shach leans against Pen’s back as his hands land on Pen’s shoulders, pulling him out of his thoughts as Shach leans into his ear. “She’s all yours, Penguin.”
Pen nods, sniffling back the tears as he stands a little straighter. Kaka smiles at him before he turns to watch you approach him. A soft smile quickly comes to his face as his eyes meet with yours.
You sweetly smile at Pen, holding Marco a little tighter. Oh, Pen baby, I can’t believe I’m lucky enough for you to want to marry me. Your smile grows as Penguin’s eyes move up to meet your own.
Marco gives Pen a quick shoulder squeeze and a smile before handing you off to him and taking one of the two empty seats besides Deuce.
As your hands come off of Marco, they quickly find Pen’s as your smile grows. You lean forward, whispering to him before Shanks gets the chance to start. “They made us match, Pen.”
“They sure did, (y/n).” His smile grows to match your own as he squeezes your hands.
A third voice enters your huddle and you both look up at Shanks as he whispers. “Are you two ready?” You both nod before looking back to each other.
Both of your vows get to Shanks, tears of appreciation and love falling down his face as he listens. Shachi’s eyes are on yours, huge smile on his face as the gratitude in his heart grows. He watches the pure admiration on your face as you look at Pen. Kaka’s watching Pen, tears falling down her face as she listens to how much he loves you.
Shanks wipes away the tears on his cheeks as you both finish. “Penguin, do you take (y/n) as your wife?”
His smile grows, his hands squeezing your own. “I do.” Your smile grows to match his.
“(y/n), do you-”
“Yes.” Pen laughs, looking down at your hands now moving up to his forearms.
Shanks shakes his head, his face beaming with pride and gratitude for the love you’ve found. “You may kiss the bride.”
Pen’s hands move up to gently land on the sides of your neck as you hands turn to grip his forearms, pulling him closer. “Hi sweetheart.”
“Hi Pen.” He bites his lip, looking back down at your dress before his eyes return to yours. His lips find your forehead and you bite your lip, knowing exactly what’s coming. There’s not a single spot on your face Pen’s lips don’t touch as you dissolve into a fit of giggles in his hands.
He pulls back, eyes roaming over your entire face before you close the gap and kiss him. You both laugh into the kiss as you hear Shachi and Kaka cheer at your sides.
Pen pulls back just enough to take his hat off. Carefully setting it on your head before kissing you through your giggles one more time. One of his arms slides under yours, his lips landing on your neck before he bends down. You wrap your arms around his neck as his other arm tucks under your knees, lifting you up.
Confident he’s not going to let you fall, your hands come up to hold his face as you lean forward, covering the side of his face and neck in kisses the entire way to the galley. His laughter the whole time fills your heart.
Behind you both, Shachi steals Kaka’s hat right off her head, shoving it into his pocket before taking his own hat off and putting it on her head. “Let’s go party, babe.” He smirks at her as she smacks his arm but she’s quick to grab his hand as they follow you.
“Let’s go party.”

Before Pen can get you both to the galley, he feels three sharp taps on the side of his face. He pauses, turning to face you as his smile starts to drop. “Are you okay, sweetheart?”
“Can we go to the kitchen first?” His smile softens as he nods, calm only because you’re still smiling. As soon as he’s through the door, Pen makes eye contact with Haku, who’s quick to leave the room, dragging a confused Sanji with him.
Pen carefully sets you on the counter, moving to stand between your legs. Before he can say anything, you wrap your arms and legs around him, pulling him into a tight hug. “Can you believe we’re married?”
He hugs you back, arms tightly wrapping around your body as his face falls into your neck. “I was a little worried you’d bail.”
You pull him back, hands moving to hold his face, smile now gone. “Is that why Marco offered me an escape route? Did you talk to him?”
He nods, adjusting the hat so he can see your whole face. “Needed to be sure you walked down the aisle cause you wanted to and not cause someone was making you.”
“Penguin, I love you.” You lean forward and kiss him. “I love you so much. You know that, right?” He nods again, a smile on his face this time.
“I love you more than the fish love the ocean.” His smile grows at your giggles. “Why did you want to come in here first?” His hand moves up to take one of yours off his face. He brings it to his mouth as he kisses your palm.
“I haven’t seen you since you were taken out of my arms this morning. Just wanted a minute alone with my husband.” You take both of your hands away from his face as you hold your arms wide. He laughs as he snakes his arms around your waist and buries his face back into your neck.
“Are you ready to go party?” He kisses your neck before you nod. He lifts you back off the counter, letting you tighten your hold around him before he takes you to the galley. You sit up in his arms, running a hand through his hair, undoing all of Shachi’s hard work as you make it messy. Your lips press to his forehead right before he carefully sets you on the floor.
The same soft glow of the night he proposed is surrounding you. Pen’s hands fully move off of you and you look back as Haku is handing you both a cup. “Bottom’s up. Happy for you both.” You smile at him as you take the cup.
Before you can bring the cup to your lips, Pen’s hand is around yours. “Wait. I didn’t get to do this with you last time we partied cause you were already drunk.” He carefully moves the hand your cup is in until your arm is bent before weaving his own arm around yours. “Now we drink.” You smile as you both lift your cups at the same time. Your arms meet in the middle, pulling you ever closer together before the cups fall and you both laugh.
You don’t have much time to stare lovingly into each other’s eyes before the first song plays. Pen drops his head and laughs to himself. Your brows furrow, mildly confused before he looks back up at you and takes your hand. “It’s a beautiful night, we’re looking for something dumb to do. Hey babyyy I think I wanna marry you.” Laughing at his horrible singing you take his other hand and follow his lead.
Some of the Straw Hats watch from the makeshift bar as the two of you dance, sing, and laugh in each other’s arms.
Robin watches about halfway through the song as Pen takes your face in his hands and attacks you with kisses. He pulls back only long enough to sing along quietly enough for only you to hear. Is it that look in your eyes, or is it this dancing juice? Who cares baby, I think I wanna marry you. She watches you stare into his eyes and giggle before your lips meet.
“That’s cute, you can tell he just wants her to be happy.” Robin smiles, ignoring the grumbling coming from behind her.
“He did that during the ceremony, too.” Nami leans back, away from Robin as she leans next to Sanji. “Shanks said you may kiss the bride and he attacked her with kisses until she was giggling first.”
Robin’s smile softens. “They seem good together.”
Nami smiles, looking back over to the two of you. “They are absolutely adorable. She deserves the best and I’m glad she found it.”
Your hands come up to Pen’s face at the end of the song, softly moving his hair out of it. Your voice is soft, causing Pen’s smile to slowly grow until his cheeks start to hurt. “Is it the look in your eyes, or is it this dancing juice? Who cares, baby? I think I wanna marry you.” You pull him in and kiss him once more before the song ends.
As the next song turns on, you pull back from Pen to glare at the sweet smile on Deuce’s face. Pen follows your gaze and laughs before taking your hand in one of his. He holds it up, passing you over to Deuce. “She’s all yours.”
You take Deuce’s other hand, dancing with your best friend as he badly sings to you. “You’re all that I can think about! Is your heart taken? Is there somebody else on your mind?”
Laughing, you sing back. “I’m so sorry, I’m so confused, just tell me, am I out of time?”
Pen smiles at the two of you before Shachi steals him. His hands lands on Pen’s biceps, pulling him closer as he sings. “How do you feel about me now? I can’t believe I let you walk away..” His hands move up to Pen’s face, pulling his head closer as he kisses his forehead. “When I should’ve kissed you.”
Pen laughs as his hands come up to hide his face, still swaying to the beat while Shach continues to serenade him.
Kaka grabs you and Deuce as the next song starts. You’re pulled into a large group, sandwiched between Kaka, Deuce, Nami, Usopp, and Luffy as everyone starts jumping to the song. “Me and my squad, we are the big dogs. Don’t know if there’s a job we can’t finish!”
Luffy looks over and watches Shach, Uni, and Clione lift Pen onto their shoulders before he turns and smiles at Usopp. The two Straw Hats pirates are quick to lift you onto their shoulders, pulling a yelp out of you as you’re raised into the air. Pen’s hands are quick to find yours, helping to steady you as you smile up at him. “Looks like Plan A is out the window, we dropped that ball and forgot the fundamentals!” Your friends all loudly sing along as you squeeze Pen’s hands.
His hands are pulled out of yours as he’s dropped back to the ground first. Kaka nudges Luffy, pulling you down as she takes one of your hands, Deuce grabs the other. You’re pulled towards Deuce as everyone moves in a circe. A laugh escapes your lips as you look up to see Pen on the other side of the circle, being pulled by Uni, Shach on his other side. His smile could not be bigger as he looks back at you.
“Our last hope left is just to keep running!” Shach pulls himself out of the circle, passing Clione’s hand to Pen, before he lands on the ground in the middle, pulling laughter out of everyone as he flawlessly does the worm.
Shach rejoins, splitting you and Deuce apart as he takes each of your hands. He squeezes yours a little extra as he looks over, mouthing a quick you good? You nod and squeeze his hand back as he continues pulling you along. “Go go go go!”
Usopp leaves the circle next, effortlessly two stepping as Nami’s eyes widen at him. He rejoins the circle in her spot, pulling her in as he does. She laughs at herself as she dougies, quickly returning to the circle between Clione and Luffy.
Deuce pulls away next, hands raised as he smirks at you. Your jaw drops as he hits the ground and flawlessly and effortlessly windmills. The entire group cheers as Uni steps out next, laughter erupting from behind his bandana as he flares.
Kaka steps out and you catch Shach biting his lip watching her ass move as she shuffles. You squeeze his head, laughing as he turns to look at you. “Shut up.”
Kaka pulls Pen in as she takes his spot and you giggle as he hip twists, looking up to smile at you when he can. He stops and raises an eye brow in your direction, you nod before he pulls you in and Shach brings him back into the circle.
The love in his eyes grows and Shach has to drag him along as he watches you kick step with a huge smile on your face. You smile up at him before pulling Luffy in, stealing his spot next to Clione.
Luffy harlem shakes until you push Clione in. Luffy laughs as you take his hand and pull him back into the circle. Clione milly rocks to the rest of the song.
Shach and Kaka push you and Pen closer together as the next song starts; most of the group heads over to the makeshift bar to get a drink. Shach and Kaka smirk at each other, happy for the song they picked for the two of you.
You smile at Kaka before your eyes move to Pen’s. His breathless hi gets ignored as you take his hands and sing to him. “Was colorblind ‘til you gave me hope. From black and white to kaleidoscope. My ride or die, thought I’d die alone.” Pen smiles as he follows your lead.
“How did somebody get in my head, all up in my bed? Like no one has beforeee” His eyes drops to the matching boots on the floor. “I can’t believe I’m yours.”
“We’re going half on a family…” Your eyes widen, hands coming to Pen’s shoulders as he looks back up at you. “Take me to Shachi.”
He helps you onto his back before he happily obliges.
Law watches from the bar as Pen’s shirt opens the rest of the way. His eyes land on the scars on Pen’s side before he leaves the room, ignoring Shach and Uni asking him where he’s going.
Your arms fall in front of Pen’s chest, your head leaning on his as he carries you over to the group. “We’re going half on a family! My life was on two steps forward, three steps back!”
Pen stops next to Shachi, looking over to him with a soft smile. “I have a delivery for you.”
Shachi’s eyes move up to yours as he bites back a smile. “Hi Shach.”
“Hi (y/n).” His smile softens and he takes the hand you hold out.
Your voice drops to a whisper as you pull him closer. “Can you believe I’m married?”
He laughs, eyes briefly dropping to the pride beaming off Pen’s face at your words. “I can believe it. I was there.”
Your hands come up to hold Shach’s face, bringing him even closer to you. “Can you believe I married Penguin?” Shach’s laugh fades into a smirk as he takes in the shock on your face.
“Are you happy, (y/n)?” Your face lights up, shock starting to fade as you nod at him.
“I’ve never been happier, Shach. I can’t believe I’m his.” Shach’s smile softens as you let go of his face and wrap your arms loosely around Pen’s neck, setting your head on your bicep as you sing quietly in his ear. “How did somebody so lost like me get so lost at sea and washed up at your shore? I can’t believe I’m yours.” He falls out of the conversation as his head drops, a faint shade of red quickly creeping up his neck as you kiss the side of it.
Tapping his chest three times, you feel him let go as you slide off his back. You grab his hand and pull him back to keep dancing as the next song comes on. He smiles at you and happily follows.
Law comes back in as you pull Penguin away, leaning against the bar next to Shachi.
“Hey Cap, where’d you go?”
Law’s eyes follow you and Pen as you sing to each other. “Penguin’s side is going to be hurting him tomorrow. I left scar ointment and headache medicine on their nightstand.”
Shach smiles at Law before his eyes also move to watch the two of you.
At the other end of the bar, Marco stands and turns towards Shanks. “We might as well enjoy one song, it is a party.”
Deuce watches Marco get up and pushes himself off the counter, almost tripping as he runs over to grab you and Pen. “Marco is dancing. C’mon.”
You smile at Pen before letting yourself get pulled over by Deuce. Deuce lets go of you both as you land between Marco and Shanks. The five of you all dance together. Your eyes are on Pen, his smile so big you have to fight off giggles, as you sing. “They can say that we've gone crazy and they can say we lost it all. It′s not our fault if I don′t really care if I get lost with you.”
The group stays together for the next three minutes, Deuce pulling Pen away for half of it to let Shanks get a turn with you. All five of you are laughing as Deuce takes the opportunity to solidify the bromance and twirl Penguin, accidentally sending him crashing into Marco.
By the end of the song, you’re all in a circle, smiling and dancing side by side.
The song ends, Shanks heads back to the counter, and Marco holds out his hand to you. “Clione let me add a song this morning. This one’s just for you, sis.”
Pen pulls you into a quick kiss before letting Marco have you. You don’t see where he goes as you take Marco’s hand, happily letting him lead. “Haven’t seen you slow dance yet, is it okay if I’m the first one?”
You nod, knowing Clione picked a slow dance song for you and Pen for the very end of the night, letting you two have the moment to yourselves.
Marco’s arms rest on your shoulders as his chin settles on the top of your head. Your hands move up to his arms as you laugh at how off-key he is. “My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to. Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small. You never need to carry more than you can hold.” He stops singing as you both sway to the music. His voice drops to a whisper, speaking the next few lines to you. “And while you're out there getting where you're getting to, I hope you know somebody loves you.”
Your hands drop as your arms move around him, pulling Marco into a tight hug. “I love you, Marco. Thank you for always looking out for me.”
“I’m always here if you need me, (y/n). That’s been true since you first came to the Moby Dick.” He pulls you back as the song ends. “I love you, sis.” The soft smile on your face matches the one on his as you both stop dancing.
Your eyes light up as the next song comes on. Confusion slightly lines Marco’s face as you frantically look around. Your eyes land back on his. “I picked this song. I have to find Penguin.” Marco nods before looking out, spotting him with Shach and Uni on the other side of the room. He bends down and points you in the right direction.
Shachi spots you coming and gestures to Uni that they should leave before turning Pen towards you. Your hands quickly find his neck, turning him to face you right as the first chorus starts. “Now I’m in love with somebody crazy happy, oh I think it’s starting to have an effect on me. Now, I feel lighter, energy of a fighter.” Pen smiles at you, a soft laugh escaping his lips as you pull him close to dance with you.
Zoro takes another drink of Haku’s mysterious wedding concoction, starting to be driven crazy by Sanji’s comments. The cook’s eyes are on you and Pen, watching the pure admiration on his face as you sing to him. Grumbling about how he didn’t do anything to deserve this. Zoro’s not sure who Sanji’s even talking about.
“What did he do that I didn’t do?” Sanji’s eyes are glued to Pen’s hand on your waist and yours going under his shirt.
Zoro sighs as he takes another drink. “Always put her first.”
Sanji pushes himself off the counter as you pull back from Pen, hand in his as he twirls you with a huge smile on his face and a giggle out of you. “He can’t even use haki. He doesn’t even have a bounty.”
Zoro leans further back, resting an arm on the counter, eyes finally moving to Sanji’s face. “Do you ever think she cared about that? He loves and trusts her, she doesn’t need anything else. And he’s more than proved that he can keep her safe without haki or a bounty.”
Sanji starts to grumble again but is pulled out of it as Usopp grabs his hand. Nami comes up by Zoro, taking his cup and moving it to the counter. “Hey, I wasn’t-”
“You two are going to come dance with us. It’s a party. Have fun.” Nami grabs Zoro’s hand. Her and Usopp pull their grumpy crewmates to the dance floor.
Across the bar, Law leans on the counter next to Deuce. “How have you liked sailing with us the past couple of weeks?”
Deuce’s eyes widen as he looks over, this being only the maybe… third conversation he’s had with Law. “It’s been fun, you have a good crew.”
Law doesn’t notice Deuce’s shock in the slightest. “I noticed your skiff seems like a permanent ship. Are you sailing alone?”
The gears are struggling to turn in Deuce’s mind as he tries to piece together two seemingly unrelated questions. “Yeah, but it hasn’t been too bad. Morgans sends mail constantly so I never feel alone. There’s always a News Coo flying by.”
“Would you want to stay with us?” Law’s voice is calm, having already decided days ago that this was a chocie he wanted to make, having already calculated the changes it would cause on the ship and with the crew.
Deuce chokes on the drink he tried to take, shock now extremely evident on his face. “For how long?”
“You can join my crew if you want. I think (y/n) would be over the moon to have you around all the time and I don’t think anyone else on the crew would mind.” Law finally turns to Deuce, a small smile trying to sneak out as he sees Deuce trying to decide. “You don’t have to have an answer tonight. Just enjoy the party and think about it. I’m not planning on kicking you out.”
You approach the men and hold a hand out to Law. “Cap, I picked this song just for you.” You sweetly smile up to him as he tries, and fails, to fight back a smile. He lets you drag him to dance as Deuce is left leaning against the counter by himself, very shocked and very confused.
Turning back to face him, you sing the words, causing his smile to grow as he squeezes your hand and slightly sways. “I don’t know where you’re going but do you got room for one more troubled soul?” He reaches out for your other hand, head dropping as he tries, and fails, to hide his enjoyment.
Your crew is quick to distract the Straw Hats, preventing a chorus of Traffy’s as he slowly opens up through the song.
Pride is beaming off Penguin’s face as he watches you and Law dance and laugh together as you continue singing to him.
The song ends and you pull Law into a hug that he hesitantly returns. “Thank you for giving me a home, Cap.”
“Thank you for staying with us, (y/n).” You pull back and smile up at him before Uni wraps an arm around your waist, pulling you towards Clione.
“See you later, Cap!” Law just laughs and shakes his head as he heads away from the crowd.
On the side of the bar closest to the door, Penguin leans against the counter, watching as you dance with Uni and Clione and chuckling to himself at Uni’s song choice. “And baby, when you take control, we can go alllll night.” He smiles as you laugh at Uni’s singing.
A new body lands against the counter next to him and Pen tears his eyes away from you. “Hey… you’re ummm Ace and Luffy’s brother, right?”
Sabo awkwardly leans, turning slightly to face Pen before turning back to the larger room. “Yep. Sorry to crash the wedding. I heard my brother’s girl was getting married and wanted to make sure she was good.”
Pen readjusts against the counter, wincing slightly as pressure is put on his side. He grabs his water bottle before turning back to Sabo. “And…? What do you think?”
Sabo’s eyes find you in the crowd, watching you dance with your crewmates. “I think Ace would be incredibly thankful that she found someone else who loves and appreciates all she is.” Sabo looks over at Pen with a smile.
Over on the dance floor, you look away from Uni and spot Sabo standing next to Pen. “I’ll be right back.” Uni’s hand comes up to your arm as you briefly grab his shoulder. Smiling as you walk away.
You approach the counter as Sabo turns to look at you. “You’re… Sabo, right? Ace’s brother?” He starts to nod as your arms go around him, pulling him into a hug. “Thank you for coming.” Pen smiles as Sabo hugs you back. “We would’ve sent an invite but I had no idea how to find you.”
Both of you pull back. You lean into Pen as his arm snakes around your waist.
Sabo smiles at the two of you. “I had a feeling Shanks would know the details and tracked him down.”
You smile back, eyes drifting back towards the crowd. They land on Zoro, away from the booze and dancing. “Oh my god, Zoro’s dancing.” You try to move away but Pen’s grip tightens as he holds up his waterbottle. His hold loosens after you take a drink. “I’ll be back.”
Pen and Sabo watch you run over to Zoro and his crewmates.
“I’ll probably head out. Don’t want to overstay my welcome.”
Pen’s brows furrow as he turns to face Sabo. “You’re not overstaying anything. It’s a party. Go dance with Luffy.”
Sabo’s face lights up as he looks over to his little brother. He smiles briefly towards Pen before heading over to Luffy, who’s extremely excited to see him.
Nami’s arms come around your shoulders as you reach her and Zoro. The song changes and you spot Sanji trying to retreat back to the corner. Your hand grabs his and he freezes, eyes locking with yours. “No sulking at my wedding.”
You pull him back into the group as Usopp takes your shoulders, singing loudly and causing you to laugh. “I had a dream so big and loud! I jumped so high, I touched the clouds!” Usopp grabs Sanji’s arm, stopping him from trying to leave again as the five of you dance your hearts out.
Sanji finally starts to sway a bit as Nami grabs his other hand. He smiles at you as you sing with Usopp and dance with Zoro. I’m glad you’re happy and safe, pretty girl. You deserve this. He starts to enjoy himself as the song continues.
Before Penguin can push himself off the counter and return to dancing, Deuce comes up, swirling the liquid in his cup as he stares at it. “What’s up, Deuce?”
“Would you be mad if I stayed longer?” His eyes finally move up to Pen’s face as he takes a drink.
“Cap offered you the spot?” Confusion lines Deuce’s face as he takes in the smile on Pen’s. “He asked me a few days ago. I said I’d love to have you stay. I know he asked Shach, too.”
Deuce’s eyes drop back to his cup as he leans slightly against the counter. “Oh.”
“Do you want to? No one has told (y/n) that it’s being offered so she wouldn’t know if you turned it down.”
“Do you think she’d want-”
“Yes. Just know you won’t be able to crash on our floor anymore. I’m a married man now.” He beams with pride as he looks over to you.
Deuce laughs. “Umm… I think I’ll tell him yes in the morning. Not give him that answer while I’m drunk.”
Pen smiles as he turns back to him. “Welcome to the crew, Deuce.” He cheers with his waterbottle before setting it back on the counter. “I’m gonna go find the missus again, steal her back from the Straw Hats.”
Deuce smiles at Pen before finishing his drink.
Before Pen can make it even halfway to you, Uni nabs him, dragging him over to Shach and Clione. Shachi’s hand lands on his shoulder. “My heart’s a stereo, it beats for you, so listen clooose.” He takes one of Pen’s hands and holds it to his heart as they both laugh.
They both turn to Uni, hyping him up as he takes the first rap. “If I was just another dusty record on the shelf, would you blow me off and play me like everybody else?”
Law spots the four and sneaks over to join them, putting himself on the wall side of the group between Clione and Shach. Pen smiles over at his captain before returning to hyping up Uni.
They all dance to the second chorus but before Clione can take the second rap, Law starts. All four pairs of eyes widen as they turn to their captain. “If I was an old-school, fifty-pound boombox, would you hold me me on your shoulder, wherever you walk?”
The group is silent for the first line before Shach starts the hype. “Let’s go, Cap!” The rest of them are quick to resume the hyping and dancing.
You pull away from the Straw Hats as Usopp starts the second rap, desperately needing another drink. Not seeing Pen at the counter, you look around, smiling once you see all the boys together.
Walking yourself back to the counter, you fall into Shanks as you get close. He catches you with a laugh.
“Hi Shaaaanks, thank you for coming and doing the ceremony.” You drape yourself over him in an almost hug that he happily returns.
“I’m glad you’re happy, again, (y/n). Enjoy your night, my crew’s keeping watch.” He smiles as you push yourself off of him. You return his smile as you grab Pen’s waterbottle off the counter.
Kaka runs into you, almost falling into the counter before Shanks catches her. “This is our song, babe, c’mon.” She grabs your hand and you let go of the waterbottle, hoping it lands on the counter as she pulls you out to dance. Shanks catches it and places it on the back of the counter, smiling as the two of you run away.
You laugh as she turns back to sing to you. “She’s been my queen since we were 16, we want the same things, we dream the same dreams.” Your hands move to grip her forearms as you both spin, laughing with each other as you loudly sing. “Everybody wanna steal my girl, everybody wanna take her heart away.”
Kaka’s eyes catch Pen’s and she pulls you into her arms, turning you around so she’s hugging you from behind. She reaches one hand towards Pen, singing loudly enough for him to hear. “Find another one cause she belongs to meeee!” You laugh as Pen fakes offense and reaches for Shachi.
Penguin jumps on Shachi’s back, pointing to Kaka as he sings back to her. “Find another one cause he belongs to me!” Shach laughs as his eyes meet yours. He raises his eyes brows towards you, waiting for your subtle nod before tapping Pen’s thigh three times. He slides himself off Shachi’s back before Shach moves towards you.
You smile at him as he holds out his hand. “May I have this dance?” You giggle and nod before Shach pulls you in and the song changes.
He takes your hands in his, moving them up above your heads as he sings. “If I was Jay-Z, you’d be my Beyonce, we could rock the nation like they do.” Your smile grows and your eyes widen at how well he sings.
He smiles back as you both rock your bodies to the music, loudly singing and laughing. His singing gets quieter as he slows his movements. “Doesn’t matter what you do, I’ll be there for you, I’ll be there for you. Doesn’t matter what you say, ‘cause I’m here to stay.” You sing the verse back to him as it plays a second time.
His hands run down your arms, landing on your shoulders as yours land on his arms. “Thank you.”
Scrunching your face, you giggle in response. “For what?”
Shach’s smile softens as his eyes meet yours. “For saving my best friend.”
“I didn’t do anything except love him, he’s the one that saved me.”
Shach tightens his hold on your shoulders, stilling your dancing as you look up to him. “You gave him a reason to be happy and a safe space to fall apart in. You do more for him than you will ever know and I’ll never be able to repay you for that.”
A sweet smile makes it’s way to your lips, your voice soft as you respond. “You helped save me, too, Shach. You don’t have to repay me for anything. You’re part of the reason I’m still here today.”
His grip loosens and he lets you sway his body. “I’m glad I could help.” He smiles back. “Love you, (y/n).”
“Love you too, Shach.” He pulls giggles out of you as he takes your hand and twirls you right into Penguin for the next song.
The party continues for a few more hours. The Straw Hats wish you and Penguin well before they head out. Sabo hugs Pen a little tighter than he hugs you, thanking him for saving his brother’s girl. Shanks hugs you both before reminding Law that he’s only a call away if any of you need anything. Marco and Deuce pass out on the couch along the wall. Most of your crew goes to bed.
The galley is down to you, Penguin, Shachi, and Ikkaku as the second to last song of the night turns on.
Your arms come around Pen’s neck as his hands land on your waist. His forehead lands on yours, hat long gone, having fallen off and ended up near Deuce on the couch. You look into his eyes as you quietly sing. “I will fight for you. I always do, until my heart is black and blue.”
His smile is soft as he sings back. “We’ll make it to the other side like lovers do.”
One of your hands move up into his hair. “I’ll reach my hands out in the dark, and wait for yours to interlock.”
He pulls you close, wrapping his arms around your waist. “I’m not giving up, no not yet. Even when I’m down to my last breath. Even when they say there’s nothing left.”
His body almost gives out as you scratch his scalp, tired from the day. “Even when nobody else believes, I’m not going down that easily. So don’t give up on me.”
Shach and Kaka smile as they watch you, quietly cleaning up the bar area while the two of you dance. Pen slowly moves you both closer to the bar as you reach out for your friends. “I will fight for you. I always do until my heart is black and blue.” Kaka smiles up at you as Pen grabs her hand, pulling her in. He smiles at Shach, nodding his head to get him to come over, too.
Kaka’s head lands on your shoulder as Shach’s lands on your head. Your four bodies become a mess of arms as you all hold each other close. Your voice is quiet, you only know they heard you cause the hold on you tightens as you speak. “Thank you, all of you, for being the light that guided me home.”
Shach moves his head so he can press a kiss to the top of yours. “Love you both.”
Kaka runs a hand along your arm until she intertwined your fingers with hers. “Love you babe.” She kisses your shoulder before pulling Shach away to let you and Pen have the last dance.
Pen moves his arms around your shoulders so he can pull you closer. Your arms wrap around his waist, setting your head against his chest as he quietly sings to you. “Lights will guide you home and ignite your bones, and I will try to fix you.” You run a hand along his spine, feeling his body curve slightly more into yours.
Your voice is quiet, remembering days long past as you sing back. “Tears stream down your face. I promise you I will learn from my mistakes.” His arms wrap around you tighter, landing his lips on the top of your head. “Lights will guide you home and ignite your bones, and I will try to fix you.”
The song ends and you both stay in the middle of the room, tightly holding each other as Pen’s hand comes up to cup your face, pulling your head back so he can gently kiss your forehead. “I love you so much, my fiery wife.” Your hand in his hair moves to his neck, pulling him down as your lips meet.

The sun starts to rise a few hours later as Benn turns to Shanks on the deck of the Red Force. “We kept them safe through the night. Are we ready to go, boss?”
Shanks waits in silence until he watches the Polar Tang submerge and the Thousand Sunny sail away. “We’re ready to go.”
