“I’m sure.” She smiled at her and really hoped to see the other not just around town, but maybe with her brother. “Yeah, definitely. And of course. I’ll be there for sure. It was nice meeting you.” She smirked. “Have a good day, Aimee.” She said before grabbing her things and returning the table she was initially at.

Aimee stood behind the counter at the Balloon Crushing stand, holding some darts between her hands. Her eyes lifted up right in time to see Tom passing by. “Hey!” She laughed, calling out to him as she held the darts out towards him. “Please save me from the boredom that I’m suffering.” She teased. “Even though you did save me from getting blood on my shirt earlier and I shouldn’t be asking you to save me so many times a day.” She didn’t know how he was able to bring this little part out of her but she particularly enjoyed talking Thomas every chance she got... She had no idea what that even meant.

Lennox grinned still as Aimee said that and she was happy her brother could be that person for someone. She never had a doubt in her mind that it was something he could do, He was a good guy and while he was a little tense, it was good to know he was cool with this girl. “I’m glad he’s good. If I heard otherwise, I’d go home and give him a earful.” She teased. “I hope this means I’ll see you around more.”

Aimee shrugged her shoulders at her words, giving her a small smile. “I do live here so...” She chuckled lightly. “You’ll sure see me all the time if you come skate more.” She teased, reaching out to grab her notebook, pulling it to her chest and letting her eyes rest on her. “I do have to run to my shift so... Maybe I’ll see you at the Cherry Blossom Festival.”

“That’s true,” though at thirty, she thought her life would have been entirely different. Not that it wasn’t any fault of her own. She was the one that left the love of her life standing at the alter. “You are too kind, really,” she smiled at Aimee as the woman offered to listen to her problems. “I just think,” she paused, “I think I actually might still have feelings for my ex and it’s been years since we’ve even seen each other and things have already been a little weird, especially after a drunken kiss over Christmas.”

Aimee tilted her head to the side. “I don’t think listening to someone is connected to kindness. It’s human decency to think about other people and not themselves.” At least that was how she viewed the world. The reason she didn’t open herself up to friendships often was because she couldn’t see the good in others not after everything she had been through. She let her eyes rest on her, pressing her lips together. “It seems normal. People who have relationships tend to always hold a piece of them in their heart... At least that’s what I’ve read in books.” She teased. “Have you talked about the kiss?”

“Not exactly what I’d call it.” Thomas said, watching her tilt her head back and press the tissue against her nostrils. He hadn’t been to Arctic Skate since his conversation with Lennox. He still couldn’t believe what his life had turned into. All it took was one question to change everything: why do you have a search warrant out for your arrest? Thomas didn’t know what to do. His youngest sister told him the guy had money, big money. She told him that his parents weren’t going to trouble themselves with a slap on the wrist, they wanted him in jail. He was stuck between turning himself in and… and… he wasn’t sure. All he knew was that he wasn’t good news and this made him exactly the type of person Aimee had been clear on wanting to avoid. The only reason he was in the vicinity at all was because he needed to grab something from a coworker who happened to be there and it was closer than going across town to retrieve it. Thomas frowned as he pulled his thoughts back to the situation at hand. “Does that happen a lot?” He didn’t think a small nosebleed was too serious in the grand scheme of things so he smiled, figuring it’d stop soon since he’d had his fair share of them from playing sports.

Aimee brought the tissue up to her nose, letting her dark hues raise up to look at him. She hadn’t wanted to say anything about the fact that a little part of her wondered if he was ghosting her. If she had made up their night together and the spark that was between them. But then her conversation with his sister played on repeat in her head. They were just friends and there was no need to try to make it more. So if he found someone else to date she couldn’t exactly be upset with it. Although it would have made things confusing as hell. Her lack of experience in this area or with people in general it was impossible for her to understand situations like this one. As the internal conversation went on inside of her head she almost didn’t him ask about her nosebleeds. “Only when the weather changes,” she confessed. “I don’t know what I would have done without this tissue.”

Aimee stood in front of work, debating whether she was going to take the bus or call an Uber to come get her when she felt something drip from her nose. “Oh no,” she huffed as she opened her bag, digging through it to try and find a tissue. Her nose always bled during Spring and it was frankly embarrassing that it decided to happen outside of her work with people around her and no tissue in sight. “Come on come on,” she practically chanted to herself when she heard someone clear their throat, her head lifting up to see a tissue being held in front of her. Her eyes locked with it before drifting to the man holding it out. She took the tissue, putting it to her nose. “You ever get tired of saving me, Novack?”

Hearing the way the woman talked about Tommy, it made Lennox genuinely smile. She always knew her brother was a good guy and knew that whatever the reason for the warrant out on him, it was for a good one. She just didn’t know what it was yet and it drove her crazy. “I’m glad you two found each other then.” Lennox smiled again at her. “There’s nothing wrong with being cheesy, by the way. You feel what you feel and there’s nothing cheesy about that.”

This had been the biggest step in a direction of actually living Aimee had ever taken. Her whole life had been a series of misfortunes and the last thing she really wanted was to put her hope onto this one little thing that was so fragile... so new and she knew this conversation, admitting how much Thomas had changed her life was a risk towards a down spiral and she didn’t know if she wanted to think about the possibility of the two of them not being in each other’s lives anymore. “He’s just the first friend I’ve made in a while.”

“That’s very true,” she made a mental note that she would need to go to the library or one of the local book stores in town to get some new reading material. It was about time she got back into the hobby. “Hm, me?” She shrugged her shoulders, “Feels silly, but even over thirty boy problems can still plague your mind.” Hannah shook her head, “I can’t believe I just admitted that aloud.” Dealing with the aftermath of the kiss with Jake had taken up more headspace than she imagined it should, but it was almost too late to take any of it back now.

Aimee let her eyes rest on the woman in front of her. “I don’t think it’s silly at all.” She huffed softly. “We all tend to have love life problems no matter how old we are.” She confessed as she put her hands together in front of her, pressing her lips together. “Honestly, it kind of sounds like you could use someone to talk to. I have two perfectly good working ears right here if you want to give it a try.”

She laughed softly. “Probably because he knew I’d want all the details and may tease him a little bit.” She said honestly because she definitely would’ve been doing that if she had known. “Right, got it. I know what that’s like.” That’s really what she was doing with Whitney until it turned to more than that and Tommy didn’t know about that either. “He’s being good, right? I’ll kick his ass if he’s not.”

Aimee didn’t know in that moment how many sisters he had, a part of her wondered if this was the one that lived with him but she also decided it was better to keep her mouth shut since she already said too much already. She tapped her finger against the side of her drink as she thought about what it would be like for his little sister to tease him but she also didn’t know what to say to that so she glanced down towards her drink and nodded when she had told her she understood the feeling. Her eyes lifted up from the glass as a smile came across her features. “Yeah, I don’t want to get too cheesy here but he saved my life in more ways than one... so, I’m always going to be grateful no matter what happens.”

Hannah laughed softly at the woman’s admittance, “Hey, we’ve all read it.” She told the woman with a smile. “Sometimes it’s not to be avoided when reading, especially if you like a series. As long as it doesn’t ruin it.” Hannah had never found it a great feeling when she got invested in a series of books only to have one of the books ruin it, though not necessarily with smut. It often was like television show series. Sometimes, the writing just didn’t do as well with the audience. “You’re right,” she smiled at Aimee, “I am proud, I’ve always wanted to make a difference.” She had, a lot of the time, while she was traveling and working with developing countries as a teacher for several years after she left Jake at the alter.

Aimee chuckled. “Guess you have a point but it’s one of the reasons I love reading. You never know what to expect.” She turned her head to look over at the woman sitting with her, taking a sip of her drink. “Well, it seems like you are making a big difference in these kids lives. How are you feeling about everything else going on? It looks like you got some other stuff on your mind.”

“Thomas, that’s a nice name” she said smiling at the girl, liking at that she seemed happy. “Me? Oh no, that’s okay” she said laughing. “That’s what tinders for, also I’m not really in the mood to date right now” she said shrugging her shoulders.

“Yeah, he’s a nice guy.” Aimee said softly as she put her hands around the glass. “I’m not sure if it’s going to go anywhere but it’s been nice to explore.” She chuckled as she leaned down, taking a sip from her glass as she lifted her eyes up towards her. “Why not? Did something happen recently?”

She laughed a little before nodding. “Only for twenty-four years of my life.” She grinned at her. “He’s my older brother. And I cannot believe he’s not mentioned you! I’m going to give him so much shit.” She touched the other’s arm and squealed a little bit. “Okay, you have to tell me everything. How did you guys meet? Are you like officially together or what? What’s going on?” She asked curiously. “Just please hold back on any gross information.”

Aimee parted her lips slightly with confusion but when Lennox answered her question about Thomas being her older brother, a small part of her wanted to panic. Was she not supposed to inform his sisters about whatever was happening between them? She pressed her lips together as she put her hands on her lap, brushing her the palms of her hands against her jeans. “I’m not sure why he hasn’t said anything but...” She cleared her throat. “We’re just... hanging out.”

“I haven’t heard of that series,” she told her, though she made a mental note to look it up later when she got home. Hannah was always looking for new books to read, though she didn’t always get the time to do such a thing until summer break. “Having someone inspirational is nice, isn’t it? I often hope that I am that for my kids that I teach, you know. I really do. That’s what I want to be able to do, even if it doesn’t inspire them to teach, but just in general.” Hannah told Aimee with a softened smile on her lips.

Aimee hummed with delight. “It’s one of the best I’ve ever read although the last book in the serious is purely smut.” The dark-haired woman chuckled with a hint of embarrassment behind it. Somehow in the last few months she had made more progress with communication than she had the last two and a half years living in this town. “I think you are. Those kids obviously love you and it seems like you are creating a big difference in their lives. You should be proud of the work that you are doing.”

Isabella nodded her head in understanding. Her serious relationships consisted of Whitney which she dated in high school, and her fiance she just broke up with. Everyone was either short term, or just random hook ups. “Oh yeah that’s cool, I’ve only been in two” she said admittedly. When Aimee mentioned a date, her heart kind of sank a little, nodding her head, mustering up the fakest smile she could “cool what was their name? Was it fun?”

Aimee nodded her head at her words as she pressed her lips together. “Yeah, it’s hard to find people to open your heart up to. Especially if you’ve been heart before.” She shrugged her shoulders as she picked up the glass, taking a sip of it as she let a smile come along her features. “His name is Thomas and it was a lot of fun.” She smiled. “What bout you? Should we get you out in the field?”

“I understand that.” She as feeling that way herself these days. She nearly fainted, though, hearing her brother’s name fall from the other’s lips and wondered if it was him or someone else in town. “Thomas? Like Thomas Novack?” She asked curiously and she was getting excited as she was hearing all this. “I get that, I really do. I’m in the same thing kinda, but… Thomas? Novack?” She repeated and just stared at the woman.

Aimee let her eyes lift up towards the blonde in front of her, parting her lips ever so slightly when she spoke Thomas’s full name. She wasn’t sure what to say and why the woman was asking but all she could do was press her lips together and nod at her words. “Yeah... I’m guessing you know who he is?” She asked, trying to ignore the anxiety coursing through her and the way her heart was beginning to thud against her chest.
