Born and raised in New York City. Her parent’s were not very present in her life. She was mostly raised by her nanny Jane. Despite their age difference, Jane became her best friend and confidant. Jane was more of a family to her than her own parents. 

She is an only child and both of her parents are lawyers. The work for large companies that don’t necessarily care about their employees. Both of them are ruthless. Even as parents, when they were involved in Hannah’s life, they were not very present. They even went as far bribing her with gifts as a form of affection. 

Hannah went to all private schools from pre-school, elementary and high school. She worked side by side with kids who were entitled to whatever they wanted from the day that they were born. This was not always the case, there were some modest characters out there, like herself. With Jane doing most of the raising, she never felt like she fit in with a lot of her peers. 

She participated in academic decathlons and played soccer. Her parent’s pressured her to apply to Harvard, to do al the right things to get into their alma mater. Hannah had other plans. She planned to be a teacher like her mentor, Jane. This disappointed her parents. They only paid for her college out of the trust they set aside for her growing up and Hannah lived with Jane and worked many jobs to pay for college. 

In college she met Jake Sullivan and the two hit it off despite being opposites. At the time, Hannah was a city girl and he was a country boy. They showed each other the other’s world. On paper they didn’t make a lick of sense but they worked. Not long before she would graduate, he proposed. Their wedding came in three months time due to his father being sick. 

However, Hannah had fallen pregnant. She had planned on telling him on their wedding day but when the day approached, Hannah miscarried. Instead of telling Jake, she gave her maid of honor a note and took off. She went into hiding, applying to programs to teach abroad in under developed countries. Within a few weeks, she was off and spent the next six years teaching abroad. She traveled all over, finding a new love and appreciation for the life Jake was trying to show her when they were together. She hiked, she camped, she lived in a way she hadn’t while living in the city. 

At thirty years old, she came back to New York City, living with three other roommates while she taught at one the local elementary schools. It wasn’t what she wanted but it was all she could really find until after nearly four years, she landed in Fallbrook, North Carolina. Though the school year started in late August, Hannah was still able to move in September of 2021 and take over for a retiring teacher. **** 

Since her arrival in town, Hannah has run into Jake Sullivan, which was the man she left at the alter. They have rekindled a friendship that has caught her by surprise. Hannah has made plenty of friends thus far and has been happily enjoying her time in Fallbrook, more than she originally thought that she would.

It was a kind thing to do, especially when Hannah knew that she didn’t need all of the items that she had. With the warmer weather approaching, it would be the perfect time to spring clean her apartment, though she hadn’t been in it all that long.

She laughed a little. “We’ll see when it happens.” She would definitely be on the lookout to try to pay Hannah back for them going out to lunch. “I agree. That’s where I’m going to live. Sunny’s going to have to drag me back here if he wants me to come home.” Ashlyn laughed, but she couldn’t wait to have beach days with him. “Yeah. I haven’t actually been there so that would be amazing.”

Hannah laughed, nodding her head along to the woman’s words. “He definitely will, huh?” She knew that she would be the same once the weather warmed up for the beach. “I’m looking forward to spending quite a bit of time on the beaches around here. I’ve only heard great things.” And they were all within a reasonable distance. “Oh, it is delicious, if you like that kind of food.” She smiled at Ashlyn, “C’mon, it’s just a short walk from my apartment.” Hannah told her as she grabbed her keys off the counter, not wanting to end up in a similar predicament as Ashlyn was.

When Hannah signed up for the Easter Egg Auction put on during the Fallbrook Cherry Blossom Festival, she didn’t know what to expect from it. However, a few short days after the festival came to an end, Hannah received her winnings. A spa day at Sunset Spa and much to her surprise, a familiar name appeared next to her own. Just a few weeks ago, they had scoured the town for her keys, having found them after a short while. She was looking forward to getting to know the man more during their spa day. Hannah was waiting by the reception area when she spotted him enter the building and she lifted her hand in a wave, “Eddie, hi, long time no see. How are your girls?”

Eddie smiled and nodded at her. “Then ya will try a banana nut muffin. Definitely needs to be warmed up too. They’re so good like that.” He told her, his eyes still sweeping the sidewalk for her keys. Listening to her story, Eddie lifted an eyebrow in wonder that she grew up in New York. “Sounds like your nanny knew what was important then.” He commented then asked, “How did ya end up in Fallbrook if ya don’t mind my askin’?” Eddie once again smiled at the question of how many he had. Despite only learning of his children being his recently, Eddie felt like his whole heart was in the palms of their hands. “Two. Audrey’s 6 and Grace’s 3.” He answered her. When she squealed, Eddie grinned as she grabbed the keys. “Yes, finally! I’m glad we found them, er well you found them technically.”

“Warmed up too, noted on that. I wouldn’t have thought to do that,” she said with a smile in his direction. “She did, she was great.” Hannah had been a mess when the woman passed away a few years back after her return to New York. “Honestly, after teaching abroad and helping underdeveloped countries get a stabilized school system, when I got back to New York it just wasn’t for me.” She told him with a shrug of her shoulders, “I started looking for somewhere smaller and after about a year, I got the offer to come to Fallbrook.” She told Eddie. “How sweet,” she smiled at him, “In just a short two years I hope to have Audrey in my class,” if they stuck around in Fallbrook. “You were of great help,” she nodded her head, “and of great company.”

Aimee tilted her head to the side. “I don’t think listening to someone is connected to kindness. It’s human decency to think about other people and not themselves.” At least that was how she viewed the world. The reason she didn’t open herself up to friendships often was because she couldn’t see the good in others not after everything she had been through. She let her eyes rest on her, pressing her lips together. “It seems normal. People who have relationships tend to always hold a piece of them in their heart… At least that’s what I’ve read in books.” She teased. “Have you talked about the kiss?”

“I suppose you are right about that, but I don’t think that all people think of it that way.” Which, in perspective, was a shame to Hannah. However, she was happy to have found a friend in Aimee. “Absolutely,” she nodded her head, “even after all these years, he still exists in my heart in ways I never imagined.” Hannah paused a moment before nodding her head, “Yeah, I actually ran into him after a date,” she wrinkled her nose, “but we both agreed, that it was for the best if it didn’t happen again.” Hannah didn’t love that idea but she knew it was what was best.

Penelope watched as the children returned to the parents respectively and couldn’t but smile. She’d worked at babysitting before and as much as she thought kids were cute and they made her melt she knew they were a handful. Hannah’s answer made her chuckle, but Penny nodded in agreement. “I hope they do!” She loved English so much and the chance to teach literature wasn’t something she wanted to pass up. “I think third grade is that sweet spot, right before they hit middle school and become mean,” she whispered the last word only joking. “How are you enjoying the day so far?”

Hannah laughed softly with Penelope’s words, “You are absolutely right. I hear Kai’s stories about the eighth graders, right before they head into high school and I am glad I decided to stick with younger kids,” she teased, though there was always some truth to the words. However, Hannah would not change her career path as long as she could help it. She hoped to retire as a teacher one day, far, far in the future. “I am enjoying it a lot,” she smiled at the other, “honestly, I am thinking about getting involved with the planning of these events with Leanne just because they are so amazing.”

august was happy to be attending the festival again, and this time with salem actually being old enough to enjoy it. the girl was seat with her daughter in her lap enjoying the band that was currently playing. she would point out which instrument was for the little one, even sometimes motioning to the crowd to explain what she could. she looked up when a figure walked by and sat down across from her. a smile broke out over augie’s face at the sight of hannah, shaking her hand as she apologized. “no no, you’re fine. no one is sitting there, hannah, you’re good. i promise,” she chuckled. 

“Oh good,” Hannah let out a soft sigh of relief with the other’s words. She would have hated to have accidentally taken someone’s seat without realizing. “How are you enjoying the festival?” She smiled over at her, watching August’s daughter enjoy the music happening not far from them as well. “It seems someone really likes the band,” she pointed out with a sweet smile on her lips. Children held a soft spot in her heart, simply because she had always wanted them. She taught third grade and they gave her a run for her money, but she still hoped to one day have children.

Damien turned his head to look over at her, nodding a little as he held his water bottle in his hand. “Yeah,” it had been a while since he went to one of the Fallbrook festivals especially after the summer one. He turned his head towards the water near them, pressing his lips together as he stared at it for a few seconds, maybe a little longer than he should have because his gaze only pulled away when she spoke again. “Uh, remind me.” He said as he opened his water. “Are you from New York? Or did you only live there for a bit?” He turned his head to look over towards the balloon stand they were in front of. “Hilarious puns, Sanderson but… I think it will be me doing the crushing.” 

“I’m from New York,” she said to answer his question, “born, raised, left, returned and left again.” She shortened her life story a smidge, leaving out pretty much everything. “I miss it, sometimes,” though she had only been gone since August. “but,” her shoulders lifted in a slight shrug, “not as much as I enjoy living here.” Fallbrook had taken her by surprise. Hannah’s lips slid into a grin as he called out her pun, having been unable to help herself. “Oh, really?” She raised a brow at his challenging words. “Loser buys the next round?”

Penelope was waiting in line for one of the food trucks, wanting to get some food in her before trying to find her sister. After her conversation with Marcos she couldn’t help but feel for her twin, despite all that had happened she really did want them to be on better ground. Penny smiled as some children greeted Hannah who was behind her, “Wow, they’re so adorable!” she grinned turning to the teacher. She’d been subbing at the high school the past week until her permanent position began in September. “What are the odds the seniors I get are just as sweet?”

Hannah was greeted by a group of children that she taught. The third graders were over the moon to see their teacher outside of school before being pulled along by their parents to the next event. As they moved along, Hannah turned at the sound of a voice noting how adorable that they were. She smiled at Penelope, recognizing her from the high school. “The odds,” she laughed, shaking her head, “I don’t think are very good.” She teased lightly, “but you never know, they might surprise you.” Hannah kept the smile on her lips, “I’m lucky most of the third graders are as sweet as they are, honestly.”

After their last conversation things were slightly better with Hannah. Their friendship was somewhat back despite their awkward conversation due to a drunken kiss. They had made plans to hang out during the Cherry Blossom Festival but Jake found himself busy helping out with the float. He had enjoyed working with his hands so he jumped on the opportunity to help build something. Hannah was helping with a different float so he sent her a text to come see him after she finished working. When he saw her out of the corner of his eye he shot a smile her way. “Welcome to the best float.” He opened his arms, showing off what him and the rest of the group was building. “Are you jealous Sanderson?” 

Things had been better with Jake since she had seen him, despite the way her heart ached after realizing she had run into him on a date. Hannah thought of no better way than to heal those aches than by signing up for a blind date herself at the Cherry Blossom Festival. She was in a new place after all. Before that, Hannah worked on the float, being deemed Mother Nature in the upcoming parade of floats over the holiday weekend. Having got a text from Jake while she was working, part of her couldn’t help the giddiness that pumped through her veins to get her through the rest of the working day. Arriving at the float where he worked, she smiled as he greeted her. “The best float?” She cocked a brow in his direction, “I don’t know about that,” she teased him right back, “you haven’t even seen ours, which is obviously the best one.”

She hadn’t noticed, however, that the seat across from it was occupied until she sat down. “Oh, shit,” she set her drink down and looked up, spotting a familiar face. “August, hi, sorry, if you are saving this seat for someone, just let me know and I can leave.” She said apologetically.

There were already a few people he had in mind of asking and the paramedic he would ask to help him recruit those individuals. “You got it, Hannah. I’ll compile a list for you once I have gotten the answers from the people I want to ask.” He told her, knowing he could invite some other professions like business owners, newscasters and all sorts. “Well we will get a bunch of people together so they can know what really helps build a community.” He knew without most of the hard-working Fallbrook citizens they wouldn’t have half the stuff they did. “You’re doing great. Don’t doubt yourself.” He smiled. “How are you other than all of that?”

“You are amazingˆ,” she clasped her hands together as a large smile overtook her lips. Hannah was almost done with teaching her first full year in Fallbrook and she wanted to continue to make a good impression on the students, parent’s and school staff. The last thing she wanted was for complaints to filter through and for her to have to leave Fallbrook. The small town had quickly become her home in more ways than one. “I’m so glad we have become friends,” she smiled softly over at him. There was no shortness of genuineness coating her words. “I am doing good, yeah,” she nodded her head, “I’m really looking forward to all the festivities upcoming this spring and summer.”
