Finrod Felagund and His Ugly Sweater

When gornkniznik drew an artwork of the song duel between Finrod and Sauron from the musical The Legend of Beren and Lúthien: Lay of Leithian (all the lyrics in the arts are from there) based on Tolkien’s Silmarillion, and showed me the sketch… it seemed to me that Finrod was wearing a sweater with little people on it (you know, those meme ugly Christmas sweaters).

And I immediately thought: yes, this is 100% something Finrod would wear 😆 So obviously I couldn’t resist and drew him in it.

This is fanart for the Russian rock opera/musical "The Legend of Beren and Lúthien: Lay of Leithian" (Лэ о Лэйтиан), written by Skadi, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion.

Here we see the exact moment when Sauron triumphs over Finrod in their duel of magical songs.

It turned out quite sketchy and rough, but I really like it exactly like this.

Back when I was reading HP books as teenager, I thought all wizards and witches were supposed to be eccentric and incomprehensible, but majority of character felt like just slightly above average people, with some episodic exceptions. In a way, only Dumbledore and Luna (esp. her movie version seen later) appeared to be proper magic people to me. (Out of their mind even by standards of wizarding community?)

This scene from Order of the Phoenix is fairly impactful and profound in the book, …and funny in the movie! I couldn’t restrict the smile watching it first time in cinema (and coming again only to see Luna on screen), while everybody else were giggling profusely (at the scene, not at me).
