PUT THAT THING BACK WHERE IT CAME FROM, OR SO HELP MEâ!
I wonder if Ozzie ever found out about Indigo impersonating him. Heâs not exactly his biggest fanâŠ
Flopin clapped his hands excitedly before taking a couple steps closer to the ferret and gently petting it with glee. âElely, look, heâs so cuteâŠ!â He smiled.
Elely made a face and walked in a large arc around her brother and the ferret, to go hug her motherâs legs. She understood fighting spells and things that went boom, but this was confusing and kinda scary.
âYouâre a⊠Weasel?â Eva stared, a bit mistaken. âIâve seen shapeshifting, but Iâve never seen it done with something like that.â she was actually beginning to doubt that he was a Cra at all, but she didnât think an Iop would have figured out a magical item like that one. What in the world of Twelve was this person? She would be more concerned, but he seemed nice. And Flopin was usually a great judge of character, even if he hadnât noticed as much for himself yet.
She picked up Elely as the girl clung to her. âHey, is my brave warrior girl scared?â she teased gently.
âNO!â Elely replied, indignant at the teasing. âIâm just⊠UmâŠâ She glanced at the ferret again and then hid her face in her motherâs jacket. Eva patted her back gently.
Ozzie blinked at Elely. That was a first. He grinned again, however and hunched over as the boy came up to the ferret and started scratching him on the head.
âHey, I donât bite! Nothing to worry about. If it makes you feel better, though, I can turn back right away.â
He started to glow again, forming upwards and gently forcing Flopinâs hand to scare away as he shifted. Once the light was gone, Ozzie was sitting cross-legged in the grass as in his original form. The elf then proceeded to take a pencil and notepad from his jacket and pointed the eraser tip towards the childrenâs mother.
âYou folk seem nice enough. I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions about this world. Iâm not exactly from around here, as youâve probably guessed by now and Iâd rather speak with someone that has kind intentions.â
Eva was surprised by the way Ozzie seemed to relax as the kids badgered him, but maybe sheâd really just scared him at first. She looked down at the two kids giving her puppy eyes, of course determined to see this super secret spell. It gave Eva a twinge of unease, but she finally gave in.
âAlright.â she said, watching the children celebrate in their excitement. âAs long as it isnât dangerous.â
Elely looked disappointed at that. What was the point in a super secret spell if it wasnât to crush your enemies!?
Eva began to explain, âThis is my son, Flopin, and my-â
âElely!!â the little girl interrupted proudly. Eva chuckled.
âIts only dangerous if youâve got animal allergies, honestly.â Ozzie held his hands up reassuringly and laughed.
âAlright, Floppin and Elely! Watch this!â The elf took a few steps back, holding a finger to the smooth, cold surface of his amber gem and felt it quickly turn into a pleasant, warm temperature, the fuzz of electricity running up his arms. His hair stuck out from the static of it all before a light covered him completely, shrinking him down until it was smaller than even the children. Once it was gone, Ozzie revealed himself in ferret form and took a bow.Â
âAaaand there you have it! Shape-shifting for dummies! Brought to you by Ozzie, the elf!â
The little girlâs eyes grew even wider, if that was at all possible. She smiled at the stone, until her brother finally managed to push her off of him. He sat up and stared, too.
âWhatâs it do?â the boy asked.
âItâs pretty!â the girl grinned.
The boy reached for it, but the girl slapped his hand away. âYou canât touch things without permission!â she recited at him.
âHey come on, Elely! He wasnât saying no!â they frowned at each other, but then seemed to quickly forget it as their attentions both bent back to the âmagic stoneâ.
âHey mister, whatâs your name?â Elely asked, while their mother crossed her arms and watched the whole spectacle.
âMy name is Ozzie.â He responded with a grin, much less intimidated by the little children then their bow wielding mother, honestly.
âAnd this stone can do a few things, actually. It helps me create strong gusts of wind, it can amplify my voice--er, that means it makes my voice louder. It will also let me talk with someone using only my thoughts, I can create small sparks of electricity and heal minor injuries...and one other super secret spell that I canât show to anyone!â
He stood up and stared at Eva, and then around the world he had shown up in. It seemed very much like his own, but the magic seemed less lofty and more wild. Magic in his word was more like a constant, invisible mist that surrounded its inhabitants, where as here it was more like a surge of electricity. It was all very new to him, and he wasnât yet aware of who to trust.
Eva, on the other hand, was a mother and she had kind eyes. He may have been lucky in finding someone that trustworthy first go once again. There would be no reason to give them a chance when heâd made such good friends with Princess Amelia.
âBut I believe I could show you the super secret spell, if your mother allowed it.â He focused his attention back at Eva, and grinned. âAs an apology for being rude and not giving her my name when she offered me herâs.â
Eva blinked in confusion as the man turned to leave. She would have even let him, but right about then, she heard a couple hushed voices. She would recognize them anywhere.
âAww, she didnât shoot him.â
âI told you she wouldnât.â
âIs she just gonna let him go?â
âWhy wouldnât she?â
âHeâs got a magic stone! I wanna see!â
âHey, no pushing, youâre gonna-â
Crash.
Two small children tumbled from a tree, a ginger girl landing on top of a blonde boy. The girl sat right up on her brotherâs back and looked up at the stranger with wide, excited eyes. The boy whined in protest to the fall and his sisterâs weight on him.
Eva sighed and shook her head. Of course.
Ozzie stopped up, eyeing the kids in front of him and assessing what just happened before he put a hand to his mouth and burst at the seems with a quick, but loud, laugh.
How cute were they? Ozzie began to relax, almost certain that these were, in fact, elves that he stumbled upon. Heâd heard their whispering from within the tree before they dropped down to meet him, Ozzie holding up his stone for them to see and winking as it flashed out with gold light for just a fraction of a moment.
âSee it now?â
Slowly lowering her bow as the man hurried to show that he was harmless, Eva sighed. She didnât quite understand what he was saying about the portal. It sounded a little like a zaap, but without anything actually constructed there to hold the portal itself.
âNo, thatâs alright.â she said, shaking her head. âI just donât usually see strangers pop out of nowhere like that.â she let her bow shrink, and she tucked it into her belt where it belonged. She realized it might have seemed all the more threatening actually, with her practice targets riddled with extremely accurate arrow holes.
âSorry for scaring you. Iâm Evangelyne.â she said, by way of a peace offering.
âAh! Its alright! Iâm used to it!â Ozzie drew his hand out of the air, relieved he didnât have to give his jewel over as a sign of trust. Even if he figured her to be the type to give it back, he felt very vulnerable and uncomfortable without it.
âNice too meet ya, Evangelyne!........................Well, bye.â
And with that, the elf quickly turned on his heel and tried to leave at a brisk pace.
The way he took a long moment to stand and then raise his arms in clear fear of being shot, Evangelyne felt sorry for the man. Had he given a straight answer, she was fully prepared to back off an apologize, but instead, he answered back with a ridiculous question.
Evangelyneâs eyes narrowed, as she cocked her bow a bit more.
âIâm not playing around.â she clarified. âWho made that portal just now? Was it Yugo?â There was a decent chance he was the victim of a third-rate alchemistâs ripoff, but she really couldnât be sure, and with the kids in the house nearby, likely playing around their sleeping father, Evangelyne wasnât taking chances with a possible threat.
âN-no one made it!â Ozzie yelped, stumbling back a little as the dreamcatcher shaped portal began to close again, its light leaving his back but he didnât pay it any mind. In fact, it was best it left now before anyone decided to hop through.
âIts always been here, its just hidden. Its still there now, you just canât see it. Its grounded to this locationâ
At least this world seemed comfortable with magic. She wasnât concerned about how it was made, but who made it. That was interesting.
âIâm completely unarmed though! Look! No weapons, I donât have any magic charms or potions.â He took the risk of lowering his hands to lift up the sides of his jacket, showing his white tunic and the amazing about of nothing he had stashed in his pockets. He then lifted his wrist and pointed to the red collar with his stone.
âMy only offensive item is this magic stone and you can come get it if that makes you more comfortable.â
Evangelyne had been alone in her practice range for a while, deep in thought, when something that almost resembled a zaap opened nearby. Honestly expecting to see Yugo visiting her out of the blue, Evangelyne walked over, only to see a strange man tumble through, instead, the portal closing behind him.
Perhaps it was her maternal instincts on high alert right now, but she took a quick step back and pointed her bow at the man as he got himself to his feet.
Though heâd come through a portal as if he were an Eliotrope, he much more resembled a Cra. âWhere did you come from!?â she asked, more in surprise than anything else. At least if he was a Cra, he would likely understand the necessity of pointing bows at strangers.
âHrnnnnngh...â
Ozzie groaned from the floor after hearing a frantic voice and frowned to himself the rotten luck he was already having. He just HAD to pop a portal right in front of a pedestrian, right?
The elf stood, brushing at his clothes and swiping grass from his jacket before it got stained. It was at that time he saw that, for a change of pace, he came out of the portal with this âpedestrianâ aiming a weapon at him.Â
Firstly, thank goodness he decided to go elf because she looked a lot like he did. Second thought was to slowly raise his arms above his head, staring bug-eyed at the lady in front of him and hoping she wasnât trigger happy.
âUm...where do you think I came from?â

PapaâŠ? This was Ozzieâs daughter. Oh, no⊠At those last words, Amelia scooped the girl up protectively and gave the guard there a little nod. âThis girl is under the protection of the royal family. she said with command in her voice, and then looked at the tiny child with a comforting smile and tapped her nose lightly with a finger.
âNow, donât you worry. Your papa is a good friend of mine. Heâs a warrior of justice, just like me. And justice will always win. Leave it to me.â she told the girl, with total confidence.
âYou can lay down in my room if you want. Are you hungry? And- oh!â sheâd nearly forgotten. âWhatâs your name? I donât think your Papa ever told me.â Actually, heâd never told her he had a daughter at all, but the fact was that they just hadnât spoken in a few years. Theyâd come to an understanding that no news was good news, and it seemed now, that was an accurate way of thinking.
âEmi...â
She replied with a tired meekness, her voice now smaller and quieter then ever and she rubbed at her green eyes to make them stop stinging from the tears. She was very light and not that much heavier then a large puppy despite her age Emi, as she was apparently called, leaned forward and wrapped her hands around Amelieâs neck and to her back with a cheek rested on her shoulder. Just like that, the child was almost completely asleep, the tears that had been hot a moment before now chilled from the air. She felt safe enough with Amelia to finally rest.
This was a hero, after all. Brave and strong and could use magic, like the mages. She could help keep her safe.

Amelia was shocked, but she quickly raised a hand in a silent gesture for the guard to stay back. She slowly knelt down then, taking the little girl by the shoulders gently and waiting for her to calm down a bit. The poor thing. At a second glance, the girl looked positively traumatized, not to mention tired, and if the state of the girlâs dress was anything to go by, sheâd been through much more than Amelia had first assumed. This could be very important, indeed.
âThatâs right.â she said reassuringly. âDonât worry, Iâll help you out. Whatâs your name, whatâs happened?â All thoughts of this child being anything but innocent had long since left her mind. That was just who Amelia was, though. She simply couldnât ignore a cry for help, especially not from something this small and fragile-looking.
It was now though, that she noticed those pointy ears the girl had, and in that moment, she put it together. Who this tiny girl reminded her of. An old friend she hadnât seen in so longâŠ
âHey⊠Did something happen to OzzieâŠ?â she asked softly, trying not to sound as worried as she suddenly felt. After all, if this girl was from that world, then why wasnât Ozzie with her? The whole thing felt badâŠ
The little elf girl nodded, wiping her eyes and still sniffling. She hiccuped some more, but found her voice and tried to explain through the little, upset heaves of her tiny chest.
âP-Papaâs gone. He got taken away and we canât find him or the mages. My Mama said to our friends to come here for you but they said they canât. I-I just thought Iâd...Iâm really tired, Princess.â
She seemed to derail herself from talking about her dad, but her exhaustion was clearly wearing on her and just making her more upset then she already was. The elf looked like she could pass out at any second.
âIâm tired and I want help and I want my Papa but now I also want my Mama too.â
Amelia was, indeed, open. More than open in fact, as she had actually had very little to do. the kingdom was peaceful, which meant there were no big, important speeches to get to right away and no pressing decisions to be made, and her daddy as still doing well, even with her grandfather on his last legs as it seemed. Really, Ameliaâs duties right now were more housekeeping than anything else. Instead of being a peacekeeper between nations, she currently spent her days keeping peace between the maids and staff, cutting off the gossip that normally flared up when there was little else to talk about, and generally being bored.
It wasnât to say that she hoped miss Lina would come crashing through the doors with some world-shattering mission that Amelia had no choice but to take part in. No, it had been a while since anything like that had happened, and even Zelgadis was settling down a bit here. He wasnât content to give up searching for a cure just yet- of course not- but he was growing fond of the idea of staying here in Seyruun until he had a real lead. In Seyruun with a princess he rather enjoyed the company of.
But he was in the library at this time of day, and she knew better than to disturb him, lest she end up carrying books back and forth for hours. She didnât mind it, but she just didnât feel like it right this moment. She didnât really know what she felt like. So, she sat at her desk writing a letter to miss Lina until there came a knock at her door. With a glance around the room to be sure it was acceptable, she gave a polite, âcome in?â and was greeted by a messenger who said that there was a young lady requesting an audience with her.
Wasting no time, Amelia headed down to the main hall, to see⊠A toddler? No, the child looked much too steady on her feet and aware of herself to be all that young, but how could anything that size be any older than three? Was it maybe a Mazoku in disguise? That would explain a bit, but⊠No. Nothing in a disguise like that would be bold enough to come into the middle of Seyruunâs protective white magic circles. Besides, this little girl reminded her of⊠Someone⊠But Amelia just couldnât place the name or face in her mind. Well, maybe talking with this girl would resolve the issue.
âHello, there. Iâm princess Amelia. And who might you be?â she resisted the strong urge to pinch those tiny cheeks. The child had come here with a formal request, so Amelia would do her best to treat the little girl like anyone else who might come through here.
The tiny elf child had been holding it in for so long. She was hungry, tired, hurting, scared, and emotionally compromised. When Amelia spoke to her, the girl made an immediate connection with the young lady being her friend and possible savior. From the stories her father had told her, this was the only familiar thing she had seen in the past few hours.
She started getting choked up, hiccuping first when she tried to hold her tears back, but eventually broke down bawling. She ran forward and clung to Ameliaâs dress skirt, soaking the area she dug her face into and refused to let go. The guard jumped a little and lurched forward like he was going to grab her, but stopped before he could take a step further and looked up at Amelia in confusion. Should he remove her?
âYour...highness?â
