but it sounds just as interesting. i mean, a whole bunch a people against benders and then becoming benders themselves.

Essentially, yes. Like they're just so torn about bending and non bending. They think everyone deserves equality, but at the same time they can't help but be enlightened by how much more there is to bending than "destruction" and "impurity".
