It’s not disappointing, but it’s not entirely unfulfilling either. Neither of them are inexperienced or shy in the least, but she works herself up to such high expectations through the banter and courtship that it’s difficult for him to live up to.

He said ten minutes, but she’d already been there for five by then. When he told her he was five minutes away, she’d been waiting for fifteen.
Fio couldn’t hold it against him - there were worse things to be late to, she figured while she loitered outside the cafe. She noted how sparse the customers were, likely from the poor location; right next to a loud corner on a slope, where all the trucks were engine braking to avoid barrelling into the chain-link fence guarding an old rusty railroad behind it.
She imagined being caught off-guard by his approach, where he’d sneak up from behind and surprise her with his smooth-as-velvet voice. And she’d giggle and flirt her way into date number three, or at least to a walk of shame in the morning.
But Fio saw Thokas a whole street away, made eye contact, and waved him down automatically. Goddamnit, she thought as she smiled at him.
“Took your sweet time getting here, hey?” she teased. “What’s your order?”
He’d said ten minutes, then had a fifteen minute shower, a quick snack, then gotten ready and left. He had a half smirk on his face, pleased with himself getting a second date so easily. Not that they’d really been on a date, she’d approached him after a show, bought him a drink, they’d spent half an hour laughing at someone trying to bring jean jackets back in style, then he had given his number and left.
He had assumed that would be the last he heard from her, but she’d messaged him, asking for a follow up. He didn’t have anything else to do, he never really did after all, so he’d agreed. She seemed like she’d be a decent distraction, anything to escape his boredom.
He returned the smile, shooting her a wink at the admonishment, “What can I say, it takes time to be me” He smirked, “I’ll have whatever your having”
Fio rolled her eyes, but held the door for him nonetheless, reminding herself there were worse things to be late to. She permitted herself a lingering glance as he walked in front of her, but couldn’t suppress the red spreading across her cheeks in response.
Shaking her head, she followed him inside. It was a little quieter than the road outside once the door swung shut, but hardly a peaceful ambience.
“Double shot cap?” she confirmed. She was tempted to go ahead and order without checking, would serve him right for leaving it up to her. But Fio still intended to make a respectable impression on Thokas, at least until he proved he was just as fun sober as he was drunk.
