Sonic Racing Crossworlds Stuff
This is just some ideas of mine and my friends along with some rants. (This is kind of all over the place but the general ideas are there.)
Is it just me or was anyone else kind of disappointed with Crossworlds? When it first came out, I was super excited, it looked so fun, and yes, it is, but also disappointing. SEGA had the chance to go all out and they didn't. To me it feels almost like a Mario cart copy and paste with a Sonic rebrand.
Anyways, for starters, the models. The models are the same copy and paste that we've been getting for a few years now. Slight tweaks here and there but overall, the same and it'd quite a shame. I know not everyone enjoys the rider's models, but I believe that the rider's models were some of if not the best models sonic got. Edgy, sharp and stylish as he can be! It FIT the genre and made the characters seem so much cooler!
Don't even get me started on how they didn't add outfits to the characters in this game! That's the least they could have done, given them some racing outfits! Anything! Mods are great but I don't want to solely rely on mods to have some good models or outfits! They have rider's outfits, racing outfits or they could have given them new ones! It would have been so cool to have that at least as an alternative outfit to their modern outfits!
Bringing up the Voice actors, I'm going to be brutally honest, some aren't that great. Cream sounds like an old lady, Amy is just, well it's not great, a random person is wearing Rouge as a skinsuit (that is NOT Rouge), and Sonic doesn't sound cool at all. No hate to the voice actors themselves! Just their takes on these characters aren't great. There isn't any personality behind their voices, especially Sonic. He sounds lame, that isn't the Sonic I grew up with. Roger Craig Smith just isn't that great of a Sonic for this style/take of the game. He sounds corny in the bad way. Shadow seems like a jerk, not blunt, just a jerk, etc etc., but I will give it to some of the voice actors, they cooked with their lines! The only thing that really genuinely bothers me in regard to the voice actors is the stunt voices, it drives me bonkers hearing them say the same lines so much. Variety would be exquisite for that.
Secondly, the vehicles. Cars are cool and all but let's be for real, we see them in every racing game in existence. When I got into Riders and Riders Zero Gravity, the coolest thing was the gear! We got boards, skates, air-rides and even some motorcycle-like vehicles! Crossworlds gave us basically cars and some boards. They had a chance to give motorcycles, skates (which would be funny and sick as hell to have! Imagine Charmy ramming a car off the side in skates, I would DIE). Like, imagine if we got the Dark Rider for Shadow!? YES PLEASE!!!! Also why aren't there any grind-rails?! THEY WERE SO ICONIC!!!
Now imagine if we did have air vehicles for like space/air themes tracks, or like a gear-change/transform type thing for the vehicles for underwater tracks or bits of tracks instead of just giving them small changes, give them changes that fit to the board or character! THAT, THAT is something that would immerse the game so much more. (Sonic & All-Stars Racing transformed did it perfectly.) Crossworlds doesn't utilize transforms as much which if it did would be super nice. That and maybe, giving it more gimmicks, I absolutely adore the gimmicks it has, especially the stunts, but imagine being able to fly, sail, parkour or rail grind, air streams, and using these plus gained skills to find shortcuts and have a more unique variety to gameplay! "Good point actually, it does emphasize items way more than previous games" - Friend.
Is this bad? No! Not at all! Item boxes are commonly utilized in kart-racing games!
Oh, another thing, the animations in Crossworlds feels stiff and slow. I'm guessing it's just the fov, but the animations for some characters are quite stiff (ex. Sonics quills moving more to provide some movement that makes it look like they are going fast, and some simple things about that.)
If you are going to lean into a CROSS-WORLDS type of game, all the Crossworlds characters should be there from the start! (Adding in characters is still a win though, don't get me wrong, I love that they are continuously adding in new characters to play) Not only that, but there isn't even a story-mode to the game to explain what's going on. Riders had a story, which was cool as hell, but this game, which has/had potential for an AMAZING story just didn't deliver. Why? Time constraints? Money? Or no reason at all! I don't know BUT, a story mode would have been great for some new lore and introducing new characters! HELL, it would have been a perfect reason to bring in Tangle and Whisper and give them official voices! I want to be able to enjoy a Sonic game that offers something besides the general Kart-Racing themes. Stories make games a lot more impactful, silly or whatever the creators want it to be, and Crossworlds would have been an insane story to use and arguably could have been so cool!
That's just kind of the rants/ideas me and a few friends had with Sonic Racing Crossworlds. Despite that, the game is very fun, and the maps are very enjoyable, and the models are nice to look at, but style change, a story mode, gimmicks, better transformations, smooth and maybe some squash and stretch animations would be amazing!
NOW SEGA ADD BAYONETTA AND HER CAR, JEANNE WITH HER MOTORCYCLE, NERO WITH HIS ARM AS A BOARD AND DANTE WITH THE CAVALIERE NOW AND MY MONEY IS YOURS!!!!
