She Divorced Me Because I Left Dishes by the Sink
I remember my wife often saying how exhausting it was for her to have to tell me what to do all the time. Itâs why the sexiest thing a man can say to his partner is âI got this,â and then take care of whatever needs taken care of.
I always reasoned: âIf you just tell me what you want me to do, Iâll gladly do it.â
But she didnât want to be my mother. She wanted to be my partner, and she wanted me to apply all of my intelligence and learning capabilities to the logistics of managing our lives and household.
She wanted me to figure out all of the things that need done, and devise my own method of task management.
I wish I could remember what seemed so unreasonable to me about that at the time.
Itâs not just about equal division of labor. Itâs also about, âthis thing is important to her. If he ignores it, heâs saying that what she wants is irrelevant to him.â
And thatâs a guy saying, âIâm only spending time with you because itâs pleasant for me.â Heâs already decided whatâs âreallyâ important, and her input is not welcome.
If he wonât do the dishes and laundry, heâs looking for fun, not a partnership. And his âleftistâ ideals will be the sameâsomething he studies because itâs interesting to him; a form of activism that he thinks will bring him a better life. If he canât do household tasks that matter to a person he loves, he sure as hell canât support policies that help people whose struggles he doesnât even acknowledge are real.

I think about James Potter a lot.
I 100% agree with the âMom Friendâ trope, I think itâs really cute and it fits because James is such a caring person, and heâs strong and considerate and brave and maybe he is a bored kid and wants a challenge, and befriending who he chooses to befriend is definitely a challenge.
But I also think that investing so much of your time, and thoughts, and help into someone (or more than one person) can be exhausting. Itâs draining to put the thoughts, and beliefs, and outbursts of two (not one. Two! Or three, even, if you consider Peter) people in front of your own. And maybe James grows up thinking that he doesnât deserve to be upset, or angry, or scared, because he has such a perfect life compared to that of his best friends. He grows up repressing his own emotion, because itâs more important that he pulls Sirius out of bed every day, or that he supports Remus when Remus is too exhausted to do so. He feels that writing the Charms essay Sirius completely disregarded is more important than writing his own, because Sirius needs it more than he does. He feels that meticulously studying becoming an Animagus for Remus is more important than studying for his own classes, because Remus needs it.Â
So his grades slip. Heâs tired all the time, but more often than not he has to smile and laugh with Sirius or Remus to take their minds off things. His mother falls ill in fourth year, but he doesnât tell anyone and canât even cry to himself in bed because Sirius has taken to burrowing in beside him. He just holds his aching eyes open and plasters on a smile and keeps pulling pranks to keep Sirius from really hurting anybody and keeps waking Remus up to come alongside them so that he doesnât think about the Full Moon in three days.Â
Maybe itâs the breaking point for him just before Christmas break in fifth year. He wants to go home, needs to see his mother because heâs worried that the inevitable is approaching, needs to talk to her and see her for what may be the last time.Â
But Sirius has skipped the previous two days of classes, instead opting to lie on his bed staring blankly at the ceiling, and Remus hasnât slept in days because nightmares the likes of which heâd never experienced are marring his nights. Sirius hasnât said much of anything, and Remus has slipped back into his old habits of tugging at his hair and picking at his scabs. Neither of them are going home, and neither of them want to go to Jamesâ, and James knows that he canât leave them there, alone. Not in the state theyâre in.Â
Itâs the night after a full moon, and James has been up all night. He usually is on those days, sitting on his bed and switching between reading harder than ever and stroking Siriusâ hair, who cries harder on those nights. His entire body aches on those nights, because if thereâs one thing James Potter hates itâs the feeling of not being able to do anything.
Heâs been up all night, and heâs never felt so helpless. He starts crying, slumped against the cold tile floor of the bathroom, the heels of his hands pressed against his eyes in an attempt to hold the tears in, maybe. Itâs the first time heâs cried in years.
He gets up after a while and tells Remus and Sirius that he loves them, but heâs going home to see his mother and he canât keep taking care of him like he has. Theyâre both take aback, but nod, and tell him itâs fine and they never wanted to put anything like that on him. They learn to lean on each other instead of him, lean on the person whoâs dealing with their own things, learn to lean on themselves eventually. Even though James would still do anything for them.
So. James Potter who has an inferiority complex. Who shoves his feelings under everything because they arenât important. Who knows heâs lucky and uses that as an excise to invest his entire being into the lives of two other people. Who cares for them in a way that neither of them have experienced, who is the best friend either of them will ever have.
The human body is amazing [x]

1st day of Christmas : Ron x Hermione
âââââââââ-
When Ron came home from work, the apartment was plunged in darkness, save for a tiny sliver of light coming through the cracked door of their bedroom.
He opened up to find a frustrated Hermione sitting on their bed, tangled up in yarn.
âThis isnât possible! Iâve learned this in primary school, I should remember how to knit!â she exclaimed, tugging on loose strands, only making a worse mess.
âWhy donât you use magic?â
âIt makes nicer sweaters, the Muggle way,â Hermione replied looking down at her work so far. âI just want to make something special for Molly. Sheâs given us so much.â
Ron sat down in the space beside her on the bed and gently pried the knitting out of her hands.
âHere, let me show you. Mum taught me the Muggle way before I could use magic.â
âââââââââââ-
This was inspired by an exchange on discord between @gin-draws and @deluminatorillustrator (a wink to you for learning knitting in school ;) ) I just took it and ran đ
The idea was that Molly probably never got any sweaters for Christmas so one year everyone would learn how to knit and each make her a sweater. â€ïž
Itâs going to be a series. 10 days of Christmas đ đ Iâll post them all under the tag #10daysofweasleysjumpers [edited from âsweatersâ to âjumpersâ English is confusing đ ) - maybe my last series on tumblr if it implodes lol.
Itâs going to be incredibly fluffy, you were warned! Happy holidays đđđđ

Why Did God Create Atheists?
There is a famous story told in Chassidic literature that addresses this very question. The Master teaches the student that God created everything in the world to be appreciated, since everything is here to teach us a lesson.Â
One clever student asks âWhat lesson can we learn from atheists? Why did God create them?â
The Master responds âGod created atheists to teach us the most important lesson of them all â the lesson of true compassion. You see, when an atheist performs and act of charity, visits someone who is sick, helps someone in need, and cares for the world, he is not doing so because of some religious teaching. He does not believe that god commanded him to perform this act. In fact, he does not believe in God at all, so his acts are based on an inner sense of morality. And look at the kindness he can bestow upon others simply because he feels it to be right.â
âThis means,â the Master continued âthat when someone reaches out to you for help, you should never say âI pray that God will help you.â Instead for the moment, you should become an atheist, imagine that there is no God who can help, and say âI will help you.ââ

I started reading this and was worried it would be something attacking atheists, or bashing religion, but this makes me really, really happy.
imagine that there is no God who can help, and say âI will help you.ââ
Holy shit.
Holy shit.
Yes. YES.
This is lovely and precisely the thing Iâve been trying to explain to my family for ages.
You deranged prick. Youâve never loved anyone in your repulsive life.
I fucking love this. Â This is perfect.
Why? Because Kilgrave is a complete monster. Everyone knows it, including the narrative of the show. He is stated to be a rapist. Those who survive their encounters with him have PTSD. Some are wrecked beyond their ability to recover, physically or emotionally. He is a destroyer of livesâŠand the show demonstrates this by taking the toxic trope of the alpha male to its logical extreme.
Zebediah Kilgrave fits the mode of the alpha male amazingly well. Heâs rich. Heâs physically attractive. He has a Tragic Past in that he has been poor and unloved. Most of all, whatever he wants people to do, they do. They cannot help but obey. This is his defining characteristic. You want to do this, he tells people. You love Chinese food. You want to invite me in. You want to play your cello for meâor donate both kidneys. You want to commit murder. You want to kill your parents and smile.
And he stalks, emotionally abuses and rapes the heroineâŠwhile he frames his behavior as loving and romantic. It does not occur to him that taking away a personâs will and compelling them to eat what he wants, wear what he wants, move as he wants, and fuck as he wants are all violations. The last example is literal rape; the rest is psychological.
More often than not, the rich alpha male with the Tragic Past who falls for the seemingly ordinary person (who is, of course, actually extraordinary) will be treated as the romantic hero. Look at Hannibal. Look at the Fifty Shades series. What does it say when so many romances in books, movies and TV present controlling the otherâs behavior, manipulating their thinking, and relentlessly pursuing someone who clearly wants either a break or to flee outright as protective, guiding and passionate? Â What does that do to the audienceâs perception of what love is supposed to be like? How much toxic entitlement do those stories reinforce?
Aside from his mind control being literal instead of figurative, Zebediah Kilgrave is not unusual. He is an example of a common type in fiction  The only unusual thing about  Kilgrave is thatâfor onceâsuch toxic behavior is not normalized, and the narrative presents him as the destructive, damaging, manipulative monster that he is. Â
This is the first time that I can recall not only having the narrative agree with me that a person like Kilgrave is primordial slime, but also having it point out that the media reinforces the image of control, manipulation and emotional abuse as loving. Entitled assholes like Kilgrave are scumâŠbut they are not operating in a vacuum.
