Not all birds fly south for the winter...
It's not very often when I'm the subject of my photography. For this shot, I wanted to capture (or in this case double expose) and give a tribute to the Pacific Northwest (PNW) state of mind. There is a lot to be said about being from the PNW. Much more than our coffee, artisan brews, epic mustaches, love for the outdoors and our flannel fashion sense, we are unique. Where else do people say "the mountain's out," or tell a friend to "enjoy the sun;" as we are accustom to grey skies and "liquid sunshine." It doesn't matter how long you are away or why you left; you always realize there is no more beautiful a place as, and always come back to find, "home." Here's to those who proudly say they are of the #PNW state of mind. From Bham to PDX, and everywhere in between - cheers mates!
PNW State of Mind
The 1000 Candle Proposal:
One of the most amazing proposals I have ever had the privilege to capture. Rocking blue suede shoes, husband-to-be takes bended knee, with a simple solitaire surrounded by the dim light of 1000 tea candles: one for everyday they have been together! One of the more difficult shots I've had to capture, using only natural light...from all 1000 candles. Every moment, has a story….

New and improved! www.ajbarse.com
One of coolest photography projects I've worked on recently, wasn't one that was about making photos; it was about making the camera. The TLR camera in this shoot was built from kit from Fotodiox. With under 100 parts it was a blast being able to build everything in it from the view finder to the shutter. By the end, you have a working 35mm twin lens reflex camera and a better understanding of how camera mechanically operates.
