this week i got an email from the comms team from a charity i did a placement with last year, asking me to edit together a little audio piece for an upcoming anniversary. it was really lovely to be asked, and i was more than happy to do it!! a major part of the journalism industry is building up contacts so i’m really glad i haven’t lost this one. ✨also!✨ my master’s application got accepted! really excited to start my MA in journalism this september!!

hello its been a while! i’ve been working full time since entertainment venues were allowed to open last month, and whilst im so happy people are enjoying going back to the cinema, i’m exhausted and have not had time to do anything.

being said, i have just submitted an application to study a master’s degree in multimedia journalism. feel a bit nervous as ive only submitted it like five mins ago! pls send positive vibes 

full time plus applications means no time for shorthand practise and freelancing. now that the latter is out of the way, maybe now i will have (slightly more) time to pick back up where i left off. ☘️✨

Buckingham Palace banned ethnic minorities from office roles, papers reveal

Exclusive: Documents also shed light on Queen’s ongoing exemption from race and sex discrimination laws

For clarity for the people who don't want to read, this is actually multiple related scandals.

First is the fact that "coloured" people were specifically banned from any role apart from domestic servants.

Then we have the fact the royal family will not acknowledge that ban properly, and refuses to say when it ended.

Then there is the lack of evidence of ethnic minority employees before the 90s.

And then that ethnic minority employees are still entirely absent from senior roles.

And finally that the Queen lobbied (sucessfully) until at least 2010 to be allowed to discriminate against ethnic minorities without legal repercussions.

(Bonus that she also went to great lengths to keep the lobbying and its result secret)

Belarusian journalist Roman Protasevich was kidnapped by the authorities yesterday, after his Ryanair flight was forcibly detained in Minsk. We now know that KGB operatives boarded the plane and initiated a fight with the crew, forcing this landing. The pretext was a “bomb threat”. 

Above are the reported pleas of Protasevich to a Ryanair flight attendant. We now know that Protasevich has been accused of inciting riots and hatred. The Belarusian government wants to apply the death penalty against him. 

This is an act of terror coordinated by false President Alexander Lukashenko. Ever since August 2020, he has increased his campaign of persecution against journalists and his political opponents. The fact that he felt free to divert an international airline shows his audacity. 

If European nations do not apply crushing sanctions against Lukashenko’s regime now, then we cannot claim to believe in freedom of speech or freedom of the press.
