Got this beautiful kimono from Kuratomo! Indy looks so good it this one🥰. The quality is so good and it looks great on her too. Sadly I couldn’t take her on my trip with me this time so no photos of her in it in Japan, but next time I want to bring her.

Jaken 2020

Look at that, it's Jaken from Inu Yasha! He was so much fun to make. Figuring out his jaw joint felt like an adventure. Back then I didn't have social media and my knowledge of ball joints was limited so I re-invented the wheel for myself there. When it worked and he could yap I was so proud.

His eyes were the first I domed with UV resin. Because they're so big, the effect is quite dramatic. Before and after of that step never gets old to me.

so, this guy here. i did not like him.

the doll always felt sparse and unfinished, but at the time i made it i probably just wanted it off my desk because it was taking up space -> called it good enough. still, it kept bothering me, especially since the doll is too big and fragile to go into storage.

hence, a remix. i didn't want to reinvent the aesthetic or straight up make a new tree, so i repainted some things & added the lushness i originally envisioned for this doll. also nabbed some crows from a current project to give him buddies, which made my partner go "oo! huginn and muninn! yggdrasil!" and i suppose they are right.

i'm pretty happy with the world tree's glowup.

Hocus pocus Disney ily 4ever set fits the myou doll 1/6 size. Even the pants! 🥹 The shoes obviously don’t but that’s okay!

Bracers for Llin

I’ve made my first attempt at crafting an armor piece. I don’t really know how it should be done, so this is mostly me experimenting with the materials I have on hand.

To keep it simple, I decided to test the process on a small piece first — a pair of bracers for Llin.

I did a quick test run with craft foam and adjusted the pattern a little.

Once it fit better, I sketched out some ideas for future details. For this piece, I decided to go with floral-abstract wave motifs — something light and decorative to start with. 

After that, I carved in the design and added a scale-like texture to the bracers. The idea was to make them look a bit like scales or skin — organic, but still decorative.

Next step was adding the eyelets. For this test piece I placed them before painting, though I think in future attempts I might wait until after the paint is done — it could give a cleaner finish.

And finally, it was time for the paint job — starting with a quick test on the first pattern.

The result turned out not bad at all for a first try. I finished it off with a coat of varnish on top.

The only thing that bothers me is the inside. I left it completely untouched to avoid any risk of staining clothes, but the bright white looks so distracting that it almost ruins the whole piece. I’ll definitely need to find a compromise between aesthetics and safety next time.

All in all, I’m qute happy with the final result and how it looks.
