Kirishima’s costume is based on a red Oni. Red Oni are demons that wear an animal pelt around their waist and have horns and fangs, hence the “muzzle.” In Japan, there’s an idiom 鬼に金棒 (oni ni kanabou) meaning “Oni with an iron club,” which is used to mean that something is invincible or unbeatable. It’s a reference to his hardening quirk.
