@akiba-drummer
It's time to just move on.
somedumbindiething: thearcanetheory: akiba-drummer: Next time someone argues that we respect women because we use “she” when personifying inanimate objects like boats and buildings, remind them that we use “He” to refer to the being that we believe made them all. Why is this… Well, dang. I apologize to the Jewish people I offended with this post. I don’t intend to take it down because of the dialouge it sparked, but at least know that it was not my intention to besmirch the religion. That being said, simmer the hell down. I was referencing a different issue and there was no mention of Judaism beyond the tag. If you sit there and act as a blood knight in the tag you will stunt any possible learning or growth. Take a page from somedumbindiething. He/she approached it calmly and presented an explanation of my mistake lest I misspeak again, which I now won’t. I don’t know if you fancy yourself a teacher, but I can assure you that you can’t teach the ignorant by ridiculing and offending them. You’ve now completely dilluted my original post’s point for your own personal glory, and only by complete chance, a different person converted your confrontation ploy into a positive, learning experience. And to everyone else, let this be a lesson in that a message’s delivery determines its value. Study the contrast. Simmer down.
When Fashion and Pokemon collide.
I went to church with my family tonight and the pastor said something that I think every Christian should hear
Pastor: Now, according to a few passages in the bible, homosexuality is a sin.
Couple of older males in the audience: Amen!
Pastor: Now, wait, I'm not finished.
Pastor: You know what else the bible defines as a sin? Divorce.
-uncomfortable silence-
Pastor: There are countless passages that talk about how divorce is wrong, and that there are consequences to getting a divorce, such as the wife should be stoned.
Pastor: Yet, I witnessed a divorce just this morning. And I gotta tell you, it was heartbreaking, but I definitely didn't attempt to throw rocks at the wife, even though she was the one who filed for divorce.
Pastor: We choose to overlook the consequences of divorce because time has proven that they're inhumane and cruel.
Pastor: The bible doesn't say anything about the consequences of a homosexual lifestyle. Yet, we seem to be spearheading a campaign to ruin the lives of people we don't even know.
-the pastor shifts a few notes around-
Pastor: The bible states to love thy neighbor. That's it. There are no other rules or restrictions to that passage.
Pastor: So, we as a church family have to support equality with a smile on our face. THAT is the true Christian way.
reverse graffiti.
instead of using actual spray cans…some artist are just cleaning dirt off of certain areas to make their masterpieces. and they are calling it reverse graffiti. kind of brilliant.

“I don’t really listen to music”
I support marriage equality. I’m not ashamed of it,nor am I really proud of it, I’m neutral—I believe in equality because I can’t imagine not believing in equality. I don’t believe I deserve a cookie or an award for being a decent human being.
However…I take issue with the notion that because I...

Consider how textbooks treat Native religions as a unitary whole. The American Way describes Native American religion in these words: “These Native Americans [in the Southeast] believed that nature was filled with spirits. Each form of life, such as plants and animals, had a spirit. Earth and air held spirits too. People were never alone. They shared their lives with the spirits of nature.” Way is trying to show respect for Native American religion, but it doesn’t work. Stated flatly like this, the beliefs seem like make-believe, not the sophisticated theology of a higher civilization. Let us try a similarly succinct summary of the beliefs of many Christians today: “These Americans believed that one great male god ruled the world. Sometimes they divided him into three parts, which they called father, son, and holy ghost. They ate crackers and wine or grape juice, believing that they were eating the son’s body and drinking his blood. If they believed strongly enough, they would live on forever after they died.” Textbooks never describe Christianity this way. It’s offensive. Believers would immediately argue that such a depiction fails to convey the symbolic meaning or the spiritual satisfaction of communion.
