Lettering practice, using tips from Danielle. I have a long way to go to establish my style and Iām looking forward to that journey in particular. Iāve always wanted neater lettering skills, even for everyday stuff. I like my chicken scratch regular handwriting though. That stays.
Here are two strips I did back in 2011. The top is the original, below it is the new lettering. I didnāt touch the art. Decided to move on and not waste energy redoing something so old.

Color Week homework finally complete. Ballin AF Snake = Orange + Triad color scheme. The smaller ones are 2ā³ x 2ā³ and the larger is 7ā³ x 7ā³ (Paper size is 9ā³, which didnāt fit my scanner again.) The two smaller pieces were much easier to get consistent shading and no brush strokes. However, they were my first crack at watercolor since high school, so I went easy on the darkness/saturation of the pigment. I doubled down on saturation for the larger one to make up for it. In the future I would like to find a good middle ground.Ā
Took my sister climbing this time. Here we are working out the same problem. We must have climbing this V0 forty times trying to get this move right for her. I think she likes it though! #bouldering #beginner #sistersaturday (at The Cliffs at LIC)

Color homework preview!
Very behind so Iām posting some of this early. Iāll be finishing the main piece before the end of the week.
Iāve avoided watercolors like the plague my whole life, save for a few high school endeavors probably. These pieces were very fun to draw and color in, but I could certainly do better with pushing the colors to be darker.
Ballin AF Snake = Orange + Triad
240 lb hot press Arches (I know! Danielle said 300 lb and now I realize why. Blick was out of 300 lb hot press and I didnāt think the texture of the cold press was going to benefit the feeling of the pieces)
Midterm!
Cars man...
I like making Hazel happy and I hope she shares some of that booze with me. Pug-Mer-Fairyās tail went off the page and made it slightly too big for the scanner.
Tangents have ruined my life (but really itās just made me think more, so itās actually beneficial) and I think I made more with myĀ āsolvingā of the previous tangents.Ā
I realize that all of these apologies Iāve been making would never fly in an in-person class at my college, so Iām promising myself that Iāll go back and re-do the test so Iām proud to present my piece. At this point, though, speed is imperative because I am over a month behind on assignments. Iāve missed out on a month of discussion and exposure to my fellow classmates work as a result and Iām kinda bummed about that.Ā
Now Feet! Theyāre harder than hands! Wow such difficult. I thought since I know the mechanics of feet more than hands because of years of dance classes, I would understand feet dimensions. Not so! You should(nāt) see the sketches that I started with. Looooong feet and teeny toes. Iām happy with the hard earned homework results though.
Again, the pages of bristol are too big for my scanner, so photographs will have to do for now.
Hands! OHgoshthisissolate. Really quick, I had a great time discovering how to draw hands. My boyfriendās favorite suggestion/joke regarding my drawing style was that I should draw a comic strip where the characters are always holding something, because I couldnāt draw hands. Looks like I donāt have a good excuse now, because Iāve got the basics in my brain.Ā
Fun Fact: rock climbers hands are an interesting subject matter.Ā
Fan Fact 2: The flick grip on a disc is similar to the ASLĀ āLā
The pages of this bristol pad are too big for my scanner, so I have to go with photographs for these.
A long overdue post. This weekās lesson was exaggerating figures. I had a bunch of fun and I realized that I need to work on really pushing my strokes and forms. Also, I liked a few of these so much I decided to color them in. (My peach colored watercolor got very dirty and the scanner picked up on it. Learning every day I guess)
My first crack at caricature bodies. That fab figure in the middle is stealing the show from sharp-chunky-muscles guy and big-hair-gotta-pee lady. I definitely could have pushed them further, but for a first try, I'll take it. #DanielleTeaches #caricature #figures (also v behind on these assignments)
Here is my awesome Paper Jam treasure. Comics and stories from @czapbooks @katfajardooo Jenny Lin (jenny-lin.ca) Anuj Shrestha (www.anujink.com) and a few business cards. I'll admit I was a little insecure walking into the venue, but I ended up meeting some fantastic people today. #zines #comics #art
Homework for Danielleās class again. I believe this is week three, but Iām falling behind. The first sheet (3 Leelos) was a test run, except I really like the Prismacolor line in the bottom left of that sheet. The second sheet (4 Leelos, labeled with pens) is the full homework challenge. Use three different pens and a fourth drawing with shading of some kind. I lost my felt tip pen just in time for this assignment, so I used Microns for 2 and 3, but with 3 I used additive line.
I enjoyed the challenge of making up the shadow on the shaded Leelo. I donāt have much frame of reference for this character, as Iāve only seen her a handful of times on the internet. Never saw The Fifth Element.
My Pentel brush pen is my new favorite and the techniques I learned from the lesson post should help me become more skilled at using it.
Homework for week 2! Danielle Corsettoās lite class on Patreon has been fun so far (now that Iām caught up and on time).
50 pairs of eyes: I learned that eyes arenāt very daunting to draw, but doing 50 pairs in one day is tedious.
25 Expressions: I love how some of these came out. Focused on the face-forward angle to work on the expression part. The next time I do this Iāll make the whole body more expressive. Goals.
Eyes used to scare me to draw and now they don't! Thanks Danielle! šš» #DanielleTeaches #drawing #eyes
My final illustration for week one homework (yes a few days late). This is in the stle of Aad Goudappel (aadgoudappel.com). More like the flat design illustration relevant to my career in design. #DanielleTeaches #illustration #graphic #Okapi
