I still was expecting something a little more dramatic like it was for Team Rocket, but Zirc and Onia grew loyal because they saw how determined and hard-working Amethio was and grew to admire him.

I guess he left Zirc and Onia to mentally unpack everything that had happened to him, losing his grandfather, Spinel's actions, and how to move forward, only to get jumped by Spinel's goons as soon as he got back.

(also, with the danger Liko says Spinel is to Amethio, the "hunters" Spinel sent relentlessly pursuing him, and how scared he looks when he thinks he's been found by them, I'm thinking there's a possibility that Amethio was thinking he might be killed if Spinel ever catches up to him, I wouldn't put it past Spinel to frame it as just him avenging Master Gibeon against the treasonous grandson who cost Gibeon his life 😬)
