Almost halfway through the calendar paintings. Did you know that all the original painting and text is done by hand? Every little letter. Thanks for supporting the work of these hands. On my last week of 'summer vacation' (i.e. taking on less custom work...but still working) I managed to fit in a little bit of art journaling before I started on my 2018 calendar work. A little sunset ephemera piece I found in an abandoned house got some extra water painted with it. I live in a town that has the most spectacular sunsets, no photo or painting could ever do them justice. Hoping that next summer isn't so rainy, so that my eyes can capture more of the stunning work our Creator has to offer. After a long summer of preparing and painting every bit of recycling I could get my little hands on (thanks VBC!) I finally got to paint something these last couple afternoons, just for myself. I got these new gouache paints a while ago, and haven't gotten to play with them enough. I'm still learning, and they are so different than watercolours. They don't blend easily, they dry so fast, are super matte and totally opaque. But they take layers like a champ, and come in rich, vibrant colours (and metallics!). I'm hoping this next week while I'm at home solo can be dedicated to building up creativity and challenging myself more. Life has been pretty good for the most part these last couple weeks, and I want to build off that. Also, shout out to my sun, my moon, and all of my stars @maddragon_ 🌔

Some garden inspiration for what I *wish* I could be painting right now. Instead it's large cartoon animals on my desk for VBC prep. At least I'm still able to check of my daily 'paint something' on my habit tracker!
When the florals in your sketch come out so soft and delicate, you wish you had painted them on decent paper.

Wishing I could paint this frantically (and still be precise). Working on the last finishing bits of a wedding suite to go out this weekend! I think that removing masking fluid (second video) is my favourite. I love seeing the paper reappear, and the painting look totally different.
