As society is actively attempting to revolutionise humanism through technology, questions are already being raised about whether or not this would be beneficial to humanity. With super wellbeing, super longevity is very possible, and threfore faces the same issues associated with over-population, and the right to die through assisted suicide if we so choose, seeing as death would be entirely avoidable otherwise. Regulations for population control are already in place, with initiatives in China including a limit on how many children a person can have. What would be the result of super longevity, and how possible would it be to achieve super longevity if super wellbeing becomes a reality. It’s very possible that genetic engineering will not only be controlled, but regulated with restrictions. While it is possible to genetically modify people to be essentially the same, there’s a strong possibility that population control will play a part in how genes are modified. Many critics have speculated that gene editing could be used to skew against some people’s favor, by making some people infertile, reducing their lifespan, etc, especially if corrupt groups are in control of such technologies. It raises a wide range of questions, including who will be in control of such practices, and what regulations will be in place to counteract the issues surrounding super wellbeing. Transhumanism advocates the concept of human beings using technology to alter themselves and their everyday lives through greater integration into technology. While more primitive examples of transhumanist thought include the idea that a mobile phone is an extension of the human body, technological advancements have allowed us to to merge with technology in a number of ways, including prosthetics. After the conception of genetic breeding in animals, we have begun developing towards a society in which genetic engineering could be used to regulate a person’s characteristics before they’re even born. Examples of this include genetically engineering unborn babies so that they’re less likely to get depression, cancer, obesity issues, anger issues, and even being able to control their hair and eye colour. Transhumanist advocator & philosopher David Pearse states in a project he refers to as “paradise engineering” that a happier and healthier wellbeing could be achieved through genetically engineering a person’s genes, thus achieving a state of “super wellbeing”. While super well being could eventually be achieved, the morality of the situation should be questioned first. What would the “perfect” human being look & behave like? What negatives arise from the concept of super wellbeing? Who would decide what genes you are given? Who will have power over the situation? Will money be a factor, and will the rich become genetically superior in a capitalist society? Is it possible that society is being blinded by the attractiveness of technological progression? This is a comparison of two shots in a short film O directed, titled "Nothing Else Matters". "Nothing Else Matters" is a short film, depicting a young girl named Roxy Menza, who discovers that her favourite band is playing in concert. However, when she realizes she can't afford tickets,how far is she willing to go for her idols? These shots come from the animated intro and opening scene of the film. The intention of these shots was to represent both the fact that the protagonist's mother committed suicide while she was a child, and the fact that the protagonist is still mourning the loss. "Nothing Else Matters" is a short film, depicting a young girl named Roxy Menza, who discovers that her favourite band is playing in concert. This scene depicts the main character, Roxy Menza, at the peak of her anxiety, as a result of taking the drastic action of selling her medication medicine to buy concert tickets to her favourite band. For Roxy, this concert means a lot more than it would to anyone else. Through an animated introduction, the story of her childhood is depicted, which highlights the death of her mother by suicide. While unhighlighted throughout the film, Roxy's desire to go to this concert comes from wanting to remember and honour her late mother.
