Jacq resists the urge to look up quickly at the mention of demons. “You’re not the only one.” She says, looking up now.
“I heard some chick slept with someone else and then this crazy one went berserk. It all seems the have chilled out now.”
“But with some powerful people. Disaster.”
“Well, yeah. When demons are involved, might as well be apocalyptic. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s how the world ends.”
“I think someone slept with someone and then shit went south.” Adrian says with a shrug. “Far as I can tell it’s pretty much stupid.”
“So, like.. High school shit. Awesome. Sounds pretty stupid to me too.”
“Lucia,” Franc corrected, nodding, “She pretty much runs the show around here, except for like, the originals obviously, and the vampire that she was fighting with– Kitty? I don’t really know what she does apart from run the bar, but I know that she’s in like, everyone’s business all the time.” She shrugged, “Yeah, it’s pretty insane, but that’s the Hills for you.”
“The Hills. Please don’t make this place sound like a television show. Granted it basically is one but we don’t need everyone calling it that like it’s cool.” She laughed lightly. “I’m familiar with all the drama that happens here. Centuries old women, just get cattier with age, amiright?”
“God, I know right? I heard in the office that there was like, a massive showdown. Nobody is talking to each other. Catherine looks like she hasn’t slept in like fifty years or some shit. It’s fucking crazy.”
“Well.. That’s something. If Cat’s looking like hell it must be that.. uh, what’s her name? Lucille? Whatever it is, it sounds insane.”
“What’s with all this despair and angry demons? Did I miss something?”
“Entirely so.” She says with a smile. “Well I simply didn’t want to see the family lose it, he worked so hard.”
“She thought for a moment, “Fair enough. Would have been a shame if it went to anyone else.” She nudged her shoulder gently, “But tell me, how’ve you been?”
“Oh forgive me, mortal traits. A ferret, what an interesting thing to turn into.” She muses an amused smile on her face. “He always said he was leaving it to you, I thought it was a good idea.”
“Fitting though, am I right?” Quirky, mischievous, nearly described her perfectly. “Did he? Explain why you think it’s a good idea because I can’t figure that out.”
“Ahh right, pesky human traits.” She laughs. “Hmm, did I miss the annoying child distracting me from work?” she teases. “You know what yeah I did. You’re back though?”
“Excuse you. Mortal traits. Not classified as human considering the whole ‘turn into a ferret’ thing.” She seemed to jump right back into being her old annoying self. “Good. ‘Cause I’m here to stay. Pop passed away, left Skyline to me. Crazy thing to do but too late to stop him.”
She heard her name, though faintly, and not how most people would say it, and she turns her head to find the source. It takes a moment but a smile pulls over her face. “I’ll be damned.” She says. “What happened to the awkward 12 year old?” She calls out, smiling brightly.
She continued over, "She grew up, surprise!” Alannah chuckled, “Sorta thing that happens to those not blessed with immortality.” Stopping at the bench, she took a seat next to the woman. “Did ya miss me?”
Catherine had been forced out of the office by more than one of the people she worked with, some more forcefully than others, and for once took the advice, she needed time off. Even if only a few hours. Her first stop had been to check on Charlie, and found the woman as to be expected. Next she finds herself simply walking around town, ending up on a bench in the park.
Since coming back, Alannah had seen a few familiar faces, none that noticed her though. Not like anyone would recognize her since it had been almost two decades. She found herself wandering the park, kicking small rocks along the path. Slowing as she approached someone on a bench, Alannah squinted to get a better look, “Is that... Cat Rayner??” she nearly exclaimed, walking closer to the woman.
Do you read much? If so, what's your favorite book?
I read occasionally. I'd have to say my favorite is... what was it.. Slice of Cherry by Dia Reeves.
“Really? Well I suppose that’s good at least, I don’t look super dead or anything.”
“I mean, it’s not a work kinda thing. But hey, you do you."
“You ever try to fix your eyeliner on one side and mess up, then you gotta even out the other side and go back and forth till you look like a raccoon. That’s where I’m at right now. But I feel like I might be able to pull it off? Maybe?”
“Dude, I know that feeling. Honestly, it doesn’t look half bad. You kinda have the soft goth kind of look.”
“You were born here? What is it like living here? Do you like it?”
“I was born here. Left when I was 12 though to live with my mom out in Toronto. I guess it was nice while I lived here. Never hated it.”
“That’s a beautiful name. Where is it from? Where are you from?”
“I could say the same about yours. Not sure where it’s from. I think it’s Irish? But I’m from here, Crescent Hills.”
