“I thought it would be fun. A quick thing and then it’s over and there’s an easy laugh” He paused dropping his head slightly giving out a low chuckle, trying to hide the slight flush to his cheeks, he really hated to put Albany in this situation but the clock had already started. “Unfortunately not mine” Listening to albany he tilted his head his smile growing. “I need to hear this duck story. Was it you or a friend?” Gavin paused before looking down at their joined hands. Looking around, he faked a conspiracy look. Leaning close he said in a fake whisper “Can you keep a secret? I’m not supposed to tell anyone. I have to hold someone’s hand for an hour”
“They probably gave everyone not quick easy things?” Albany said, though, given some of the unusual antics she had seen so far (including her own brother stripping, not okay), maybe that wasn’t true. Whatever the dare was, Gavin was going slightly red, but he was smiling - and unfortunately wanted to know about the damn duck. “Oh... the duck, that was... a friend, I wouldn’t leave a duck in a mailbox. I did plenty of other stupid things, but not to a duck,” Albany said, shaking her head, “Basically, it was truth or dare, and people were a little drunk, and, wellll, we were at this private school next to this house with this obnxious duck. He’d wander onto campus and attack people. Chase people around, bite their ankles, that kind of thing. So this girl, Colleen, gets dared to go kidnap the angry duck. She was drunk, and she put him in a mailbox, like one of the big ones on the wall with the open top? So she wouldn’t forget him. I guess it made sense in her brain. And she forgot him there. We had to go free this poor duck at two am, and I swear that duck held a grudge.” Then again, the bitter old bird had had a good reason to hold a grudge a that point. She shrugged - sadly it was not an epic story.
They were both conspicuously looking at their hands by this point, when he leaned in and explained that the dare was to hold hands with someone for an hour. “Ohhhhhhh,” Albany said, “That would explain the not quick bit. But, I mean... that’s not as bad as it could be? I was expecting you to start braying like a donkey or something at any moment.” The Burnbook seemed to like humiliating people. “I think we can manage an hour, so she doesn’t try to exact her revenge or something. I mean... I think she made my brother do a strip tease unless he’s just super waste... so maybe the intensity offsets the... time constraint?”
