Let me tell you a story
About a boy and a girl
Itâs kinda short, kinda boring
But the end is a whirl

âNo really, I think he actually thought he was going to knock me off my broom. Like what the hell? Iâve been playing this game since year one and you literally started last year! Guess he felt foolish after we won.â He ranted, talking about the last Hufflepuff v. Slytherin Quidditch match.
âAnyways, you worked up the courage to ask someone to the ball yet? Or are you going to go all on your lonesome?â Teddy asked, elbowing Albus teasingly.
âYou wonât believe who Iâm taking, Iâm just hoping you wonât kill me when I tell you who.â
Teddy knew Albus would never get mad at him for asking Lily, the three had been friends since they were little. After Teddyâs parents died, he was raised by his grandmother but then she eventually passed away also, leaving Teddy with no where to go. He was taken in by his godfather Harry so he grew up with the Potters, making them practically his only family at this point. They were all he had, like was he seriously going to see if Vers family would take him in? After what his grandmother did? In his eyes sheâd done nothing wrong but the other side of the family begged to differ.
Albus swallowed, his throat suddenly feeling a lot tighter than it was before, eyes staring down at his empty plate, which was suddenly a lot more interesting than anything else in the Great Hall. The room was emptying out, as people started to file out back to their common rooms, the evening coming to a close. It wasnât too loud anymore, but there was a nice general level of chatter.
Albus closed his eyes, taking in a deep breath before clenching his fists, turning to Teddy with a determined look. âTed.â He said, and his confidence faltered for a moment, finding the words harder to get out than he originally thought. Teddy wouldnât judge him, and he knew that, but this was still so weird. He kept with it though, expression maintaining as cautious but strong. âIâm gay.â
Teddy had been taking a drink when the words slipped out of his mouth. Out of shock he choked on his drink a little, placing a hand over his mouth as he coughed.
He hadnât really expected that to be honest, it didnât bother him of course but he just didnât expect it. Now thinking about it, it kinda mad sense. Whenever Teddy would ask him about girls or talk about girls he wouldnât be as enthusiastic as Teddy was, but he just thought that was his personality.
Once Teddy had calmed down he cleared his throat and turned to Albus, his eyes flicking between each of Albusâ. He waited a moment before speaking, trying to find the right words.
âThank you for telling me Albus. I know how hard that must of been and Iâm proud of you for doing it. And donât you dare think for a second that Iâm gonna look at you any differently, youâre still my family.â He said with a smile, placing a hand on Albusâ shoulder.
He winced a little when Teddy choked on his drink, checking around just to make sure that people werenât staring. Albus wasnât a big fan of attention in general, let alone when they were sort of having a personal moment. He wondered if this was the right place and the right time, but Teddyâs words calmed him and he had to look down at the table for a second to stop himself from going red. It felt good to finally say aloud.
It was funnily enough, the second part that he was a little more nervous about. It was funny really, how coming out wasnât the most shocking part of the story. He tapped his fingers absent mindedly against his goblet. âSo.â He started. âYep, someone asked me to the ball instead.â He nodded slowly, as if that were enough and that he wouldnât have to elaborate. He got flustered by everything so easily, he just felt so awkward discussing personal things, even with someone so close.
âIâm uh, Iâm going with Malfoy. Scorpius Malfoy.â
He looked up to gauge Tedâs reaction.

Albus liked catching up with Teddy. He didnât have many friends, something he had grown accustomed to. He didnât mean spending time alone, or spending time studying in the library away from it all. Whereas his older brother James had been swarmed at school, the popular guy, head boy, quidditch captain, Albus had managed to fall into his shadow. At first it made him a little bitter, but somehow, being the âless interestingâ Potter did him a lot of favours, and he managed to hang in the back as a wallflower, as he pleased.
Teddy however had always been there, but Albus enjoyed his company. He was a close friend and Albus knew he could talk to him about all sorts of things that he couldnât really share anywhere else, and in return he would nod and mumble âmhmâ at all of Teddyâs quidditch rants.
He blushed a little at the mention of the ball, looking down at his plate to bite back the wide grin that fought at his lips. âWell, you say first.â No matter how surprising Teddy thought his choice was, Albus believed he probably had a one up. He had no idea what the rest of his family were going to say, though Albus hoped that Teddy would understand.
âWell I just happened to ask your sister.â He said before taking a bite of his roll. âWhat do you say to that?â He smiled playfully and continued to eat his food while he waited for Albusâ response.
Albus had always been there for him. He was always one to defend him whenever people made comments about his parents or his grandma, that was before Teddy actually learned to stand up for himself. Nowadays if someone made a comment he wouldnât hesitate to tell them off or even knock their teeth in. But he didnât get into fights as often as he wanted to, meaning half the time he wouldnât punch the living daylights out of someone who definitely deserved it. Since he had became a prefect he was expected to be an example for the younger students so he couldnât walk around fighting everyone he sees.
Teddy knew Albus didnât have a large friend group but he really didnât mind that. Albus was still one of his closest friends, practically his brother. So the tables had turned, Teddy was now usually the one to defend Albus from comments about his father and blood status.
It didnât totally surprise him that Teddy and Lily were going to the ball together. Despite Albus having a tendency to be terribly socially aware, even he couldnât miss the looks between his sister and his close friend. And he didnât mind it. It was actually comforting to know that she was going wirh someone who Albus knew would make her evening nice and enjoyable. He looked up, smiling at him.
âReally? Thatâs great.â And he meant it, genuinely. âIâm sure you guys will have fun.â He turned back to his food, as if that was the end of the conversation, realising that it was technically now his turn to talk. He chewed carefully, thinking it through in his head. It wasnât like he was embarrassed or ashamed he just didnât know how to say it. Because he was essentially confessing a lot at once, out loud for the first time. Stuff he hadnât even spoken to Teddy about before.
âWell, I havenât actually asked anyone. But.. somebody did ask me.â He hummed.
