Pansy listened carefully to his words, the way his face looked as he talked about his father. It seemed as if Potter had managed not to alienate his son, despite his house. She was sure that everything wasn’t always peachy but there was an undercurrent of respect, love, to the boy’s words.
More than that Albus was capable of analyzing his father, not blinded by familial ties, which said something about what their relationship had been like. It made something bitter twist unpleasantly inside her to think of healthy parental relationships. If her parents had played their cards better, if they’d had more than one brain cell between the two of them, they could have had the loyal daughter they wanted.
Pansy grinned widely, honestly, a laugh falling out of her without her permission. “I appreciate the deplorable enough. If I’ve quit doing anything deplorable, you may as well toss me in a coffin. You’re right though, nothing better than dying in your prime. I like the idea of people mourning me.”
Slytherins had always carried a particular reputation but Pansy felt that in the past they’d had more power, more respect, at least. It was rather disheartening. The effects could be seen clearly in the first years-one of the smallest groups of Slytherins in decades. “No. They can’t imagine that our founding traits could be anything but negative. It’s easier for them to believe ambition, the desire to succeed and learn and grow, is greedy or dangerous. And if perhaps more of us have gone astray than in other houses maybe it’s because we didn’t have the right teachers, the right influences.”
it took no effort to see pansy was analyzing him, or at least the things he was saying. he wondered if she liked what she had found out. judging from the laugh which tumbled from her lips, albus was confident that, at the least, she didn’t hate him, yet. what else could a boy hope for ??
“-of course. what more is there to life than committing some shameful, inexcusable act and watching the judgy little eyes of people widen in horror ?? “ albus had always lived to shock and awe ---- in all the best and worst ways. he lived for the sharp intakes of breath, agape jaws, or clenched fists he was able to coax from the ones who didn’t have the pleasure of knowing him well. the ones who did just looked on and rolled their eyes. “ mmmm, all the lamenting about ‘ how much potential they had ‘ and ‘ think of the great things they could have done with their life. ‘ especially from the bastards you’ve never spoke to. “
it was a vicious cycle, and one that seemed to have tragically fatal consequences. judgement was passed so easily on children, who’s defining moment was apparently being told they were ambitious at age eleven. then, when it was so easy to stick with what would, hopefully, keep them safe, something to hold onto in the midst of the glares and sneers, they were condemned for not doing the ‘ right ‘ thing. of course, none of our morally upstanding heroes seemed at all interested in intervening. why would they ?? damned from the start, after all. it was worse for the muggleborns.
“ feel like you’re pretty well fucked over from the start, yeah ?? s’like, you’re either part of this exclusive group that everyone and their goddamn great aunt have been told to avoid, or you’re the poor muggleborn or half-blood kid, stuck between. can’t break into the all exclusive harrowed, all exclusive old-boys club, but still get the occasional funny ‘ what are you up to ‘ glances. i mean it’ll get better after a while, that much i can tell you. still always look towards the slytherin side of the room whenever dark wizards are brought into the conversation, though. “ eyes rolled, chronically unimpressed with the whole of it. “-don’t have the heart to tell the poor babes that dark lords have come from their houses too. “
Bring all your things and we shall build a pyre Find resurrection in the flames and in the fury of alarm bells we shalt begin
lcngbvttom:
death eater’s had penetrated the castle, that was clear enough. when alastor & dumbledore’d initially given frank his mission, he’d been vexed. he was meant to be on the field, not babysitting a bunch of children. but they must have known something was coming, because DARKNESS had fallen over the castle. a song of sorrow wailed through the courtyards, mourning students & professors walking in a daze. as soon as he’d discovered the time warp, he’d read up on everything he could — the wars, the heroes, the villains … everything he could get his hands on that didn’t include him. & so the death of this … POTTER kid, from what he read, could shake the entire world. & no NOT in a good way.
so he jotted down every name he could remember. every name of a once death eater, future, or otherwise … & kept his eye’s bugged out & peeled for any of them. no other kid ( or hero ) was going to die on his watch, & there was work to do. walking through the courtyard, he scanned the desolate crowd for anyone out of place, ANY sign of danger. though, he assumed with his beaten eye’s & hand on his wand, he might’ve been the only one.
melodrama coursed through albus’s blood, so it was no wonder that quips and cruel sneers would get him into trouble. eyes narrowed at him, a funny little vein popping out as the ravenclaw’s ( richard ? raymond ? roger ? ) face seemed to grow a fantastic shade of eggplant. of course, he kept pushing. in a sudden wild whir of movement, spells and hexes were being cast and dodged, while wild eyes looked on fervently. in the blink of an eye, the first entertainment he had in so long vanished. he always hated it when someone broke up his skirmishes. reluctantly, he pulled away from the scene and towards someplace less crowded. the ravenclaw didn’t even show enough common courtesy to bloody or bruise him up a little.
he was content with the little hidey-hole he seemed to have found; he could keep an eye on everyone, but it was much harder for anyone to see him. a perfect place to relieve tension after a less than sub-par duel. looking at the dull little ants walking single file, albus’s wand seemed to come to life. murmuring highly frowned upon, but not quite illegal spells under his breath, he watched the line disperse. ants darting around in every direction frantically; albus fancied they were like humans in that way. eyes scanned the courtyard before casting anything a tad darker. he was glad they did. spotting another man, he carefully tucked his wand away. had he been seen ?? “ you’re lookin’ pretty bored, babe. “ intense was more like it. “ must have better things to do than sit around here, hmm ?? “
marcusflvnt:
The look of appraisal didn’t trouble Marcus, it wasn’t the first time someone had had trouble placing his intentions and it wasn’t likely to be the last, either. When Albus spoke about corrupting youth, the answering chuckle was low, and an obvious indication that he wasn’t buying the explanation. He didn’t bother to call the younger man out on it, though. What was the point? He clearly wasn’t up here for the stellar social interaction. More than likely to escape the wash of curious and pitying gazes before he snapped and hexed someone, Marcus surmised. “Doubt you’d give your supply away at random unless it was someone you actually didn’t mind sharing with. Last I checked, Slytherin isn’t usually known for altruism.”
As further curls of smoke travelled upwards towards the ceiling, Marcus leaned his chin on his hands, elbows resting on his knees, more than faintly amused by the sarcasm. “Clearly, you’re made of glass,” he replied, tone deadpan. Broken glass was probably more like it, all faint gleam and sharp edges. At the jab of m'not going to go tumble off the Astronomy Tower, he lifted an eyebrow. “Obviously not. The other staff actually would lecture you about your smoking habits, whereas I don’t especially care. You don’t seem the type to end up in the Hospital Wing because you attempted to transfigure yourself whilst high. I’d prefer to credit you with some sense.” The words were followed by a pronounced roll of eyes, since that was clearly a situation he’d encountered. With a shrug of his shoulders, Marcus added, “I’m still here because you’re a Slytherin and we watch out for our own, fucked up situations included. Make of that what you like.”
he heard the chuckle. the answering response: an eye-role that would have made some resounding sort of sound, if a noise was to be put to it. “ have no idea what you’re talking about. m’the shining beacon of benevolence amongst my peers......really ?? guess the times really do change ?? s’the hufflepuffs that are vicious in my time. all fangs, beady little eyes, and repressed rage. “ poor hufflepuffs, always being kicked when they were down. strange considering with the whole loyalty and hard working thing, they’d make a better army than slytherins or gryffindors. war; everything in his mind seemed to be going back to war. what a macabre thing to dwell on. no wonder why he had been in such a foul mood lately.
“ the way your sitting either means your bored or entertained, dunnit ?? i’m wavering towards you getting some perverse sort of amusement towards my ramblings and deep, heart-felt confessions, just because i can’t think of any circumstances where anyone could ever find me boring. “ he was making posture into something it most likely wasn’t, but so long as he had an excuse to gripe, he would happily continue inventing truths. “-and i would promptly ignore them. what’re they gonna do ?? give me detention ?? tell my parents ?? “ he snorted. consequences would be harder to delve out now. “ you must love teaching, hmm, babe ?? “ as much trouble as he caused for the teachers, he really did pity them. he would have gotten in trouble for repeated abuses if he was in their place. “-really don’t understand why you’ve decided to adopt me or whatever. i’m terrible for public image, y’know ?? “
alliefortescues:
" is a ‘ dazed look ‘ not a concept in the future? i’ll happily explain if you’d like. “ the brunette sarcastically offered as she rolled her shoulders slightly. shaking her head she sighed as he mentioned frank’s last name what was she supposed to say? yes, hopefully? it even sounded stupid in her head. she was still grappling with the fact that her crush on her mentor was actually going to turn into something eventually. “ um, well that’s what it says in all the books so yea, i suppose that one day eventually. “ she awkwardly replied a sheepish look now present on her features.
“ well that’s bloody rude, tell them to sod off. “ she added with a tilt of her head. “ i’m not one to tell others how to behave kid, so don’t stress yea? “ and she wasn’t as long as what someone was doing wasn’t hurting anyone who was she to object? whatever made someone happy was good enough for her. however how cleaning trophies helped someone achieve any sort of bliss was beyond her but she felt it was rather impolite to ask. “ neville? “ she quickly questioned, a hint of a smile was visible on her face. so her son had been friends with harry potter, perhaps she should look for him then? as to what she would say when she found well that was just… she’d figure it out later. “ sort of? mate you are either someone’s kid or you aren’t… or actually who bloody knows at this point. “ that seemed like a better explanation for things, she was tired of trying to figuring things out because as soon as she did something even more ridiculous happened and confused her all over again. it was much easier to accept the ‘ confused ‘ state as a new normal at least for the purposes of this conversation.
“ can’t sleep. “ she replied simply before quirking an eyebrow. “ could ask you the same question. we’ve all been told to stay in our common rooms, so clearly detention isn’t the reason why you’re here. is it just a calling? “
“ now i know i’m attractive, but if i’m causing you to be dazed, think you should look away. “ smirking, his cat-that-caught-the-canary-look only grew stronger with each moment of uncomfortable silence on her part. ah, young love. sickening. “-suppose you could always politely beg ‘im to take the name fortescue. “ how helpful albus was, offering solutions to possible couples dilemmas. though, the last name wasn’t the issue at hand at all for alice, just a loving little jab on albus’s part. “ i’d jump him soon, merlin knows with the influx of competition......”
“-don’t mind, really. sometimes, i even find it entertaining, when there’s not a fuck-ton of people just looking at me through all hours of the day. “ eyes drifted to the trophy case, watched the light reflect a faint gold for a moment, before closing the case. he had done good. he had done good. “ neville, “ he repeated, her smile mimicked by a faint one of his own. “ how ‘bout you tell me ?? “ he knew he sounded too snappy. he was sick of questions. sick of himself questioning. sick of there never being any answers. of course, people just seemed to be asking him them now of days. he reckon’d that by the time he got to the millionth question, his skull would explode and coat the bastard who asked it in brain matter. he hoped their shoes were expensive
“ same, i suppose. “ for the first time he could remember, he wasn’t one of the only insomniac that roamed the castle like a ghost; the castle seemed plagued by them, now. “-i think you underestimate my love for shiny things. until i can find some rich fucker to buy me things, i’m stuck looking at this...... that and i’ve been looking after the cat that’s been occasionally walking by for the last few hours. nobody comes to take it soon, m’just gonna claim the thing as my own. “
redhairxhandmedownrobes:
She was trying so hard to detach herself as much as she could emotionally from Albus. This wasn’t her future son anymore. They might’ve shared blood, but she wasn’t the person he thought she was. Maybe it was best if she withdrew herself as much as she could from all three of them. But what if they needed her for emotional support or guidance or…anything that their mum would have provided? Would she be able to do that for them? Would she physically and mentally be there for them like how they might need? “I have no room to talk when it comes to language, so no worries about getting a stern lecture from me. Unless you do something stupid and reckless, then you’re bound to get one just like any of my friends or brothers would,” she replied, her voice carrying barely any emotion. If this interaction had been before yesterday, Ginny might have had no problem with teasing or playing along with anything thrown her way, but she just didn’t have the energy to do it.
Ginny let the spoon hit the side of the bowl with a clank as her hands quickly found their way to her face, elbows resting on the table. She didn’t want him to see any of the tears that threatened to spill out and into her bowl, making the oatmeal that she was most likely not going to eat, salty. Seeing Harry in a world where he was happy with their future children, alive and older…. she wasn’t sure if that would destroy her or relieve some of the tension in her chest. Barely able to keep it together when Teddy told her stories of him growing up with Harry and Ginny, but actually seeing those memories would be a completely different story. After taking a few moments to shakily catch her breath, she slid her hands off of her face and was able to look back at him again with her face probably red and blotchy. "One, you’re never unwanted. Nor are you a problem,” was that too much of a mum thing to say? “Two, I’m not the person that you grew up knowing, and I’m not going to be the person that we both know for a while. I apologize for anything I say in advance. I’m sure you already know I have a temper.” Especially when I’m grieving. “Three, give me some time and I think I would like to see those memories. Right now? Not sure if I can take it.” I probably wouldn’t be able to take it especially when I can barely handle seeing Harry in your physical appearances. “Also, it goes both ways. If you need anything at all, lemme know. We both know that I’m not your mum, but if you need someone to talk to… I can try my best and help.”
‘ just like any of my friends or brothers would. ‘ would that day ever come ?? a genuinely friendly conversation free of worry and paying no mind to the complications of it all ?? as much as he longed for it to be that easy, he had a hard time believing it would. “ haveta keep my bad behavior to a minimum around you then. “
tears; at least, that seemed to be the reason why his mu-ginny was so intent on hiding her face. wet tears, screaming of grief and vulnerability were a private thing, or so albus thought; it was no wonder she’s want to keep them from a practical stranger. what had made him believe this was a good idea ?? he was bad enough with other people’s emotions - not to mention his own - when things weren’t nearly as personal. he had no business in this. and now, now he had unnecessarily brought grief to an already grieving woman. eyes averted themselves to the table to afford her some privacy until she was ready to speak again. “ thanks, i think you’ll find more than a few people who disagree with you ‘bout the problem part, though. “ terrible half-jokes. that’s all he seemed to be good at now of days. ( good at may have been a warped term, here. ) “ i know. “ words fell flat under the pressure of finding the right ones. he had never been a romantic. “ i know, and i don’t expect you to be. i don’t know if you’ll ever be her. that’s okay....... and if you need to scream at or lose your temper with someone, it can be me. “ it seemed he didn’t have the capacity to cry anyways. “ all the time you need. just grab me whenever, yeah ?? “ he hoped the memories would be a good idea. he knew he treasured them because they were dad. ( merlin knows he had been nothing but a daddy’s boy growing up ) but its effects on someone who’d never get to see that side of him.... he didn’t know just what that could do to someone. “ thank you, ginny. means a lot. “ and it did. he only wondered if he would ever take advantage of it.
dracomalfcy:
draco looked to the side to face the other, to be able to read whatever he was thinking. he thought he had an idea of what that was, and the words only confirmed what he thought the other was thinking. sighing at himself, he closed his book and moved to sit on the other couch next to albus. he didn’t feel the need to stare or to avoid the other. as someone who had been through the awkward phase of no one knowing how to deal with him, at least he knew what not to do. “what it is? look, you need a distraction and i don’t know you well enough to know what you want to do. so just tell me.” it had past midnight and he wasn’t in the mood to play the game where he got more and more hints until he had figured it out himself. he preferred everything to the point anyway. leaning back against the couch, draco thought about the other’s question. “honestly? i have no idea. but he could have picked any tower and he picked that one. dumbledore died on that one. i want to say he wouldn’t but that detail just bugs me.” of the many, many towers in the castle potter had to pick the one that held bad memories, which pointed towards him doing it himself. “as for the death eaters? i know them. you’re not a threat, albus. you haven’t done anything to oppose them. they’ll probably -” he paused, “go after whoever opposes them or has opposed them in the past. i’m not even sure if they’re currently doing much of anything, though.” shoulders shrugged at that. it would be too easy to blame potter’s dead on the death eaters when no one knew what really went down at that tower. “point is, you shouldn’t worry or get involved. i’ve been there and done that and it’s bad news.”
momentarily, surprise passed over his features as draco drew closer. the fixed loyalty slytherins seemed to show in the 90′s was fiercer than he was used to. eyelids fluttered close, mulling over the other’s offer, “ m’not entirely sure...... is there truth to the rumor where malfoys are, good alcohol follows ?? “ what was the death of a loved one good for if not an excuse to take part in all sorts of substance abuse ??
“ funny, that same detail is the same reasons i have trouble believing he jumped. “ one of them, at least. days had flickered by, seemingly never-ending, but gone before he knew it, and there hadn’t been one since that he hadn’t been plagued by the mystery behind his father’s death. “ y’see, the more i thought about it, the more i thought about what a show of dramatic symbolism it would be, y’know ?? killing one scion of the light - practically fucking worshiped - in the same place his predecessor was..... be a fucking helluva comeback. “ a pause. eyes dragged across the dim glow of the common room, taking a moment to gather his thoughts. inhale. “ though, think an opportunity was missed: nailing him to a cross would of really hit the mark. “ exhale. a sardonic grin marred otherwise light features. “ sorry. i’m terrible really. not even remotely funny. “ there was a line, surely, between gallows humor and bad taste; trouble was, albus had a hard time spotting it. “-aside from that, i think he would of left some fucking sappy, sentimental note for mu-ginny, ron and hermione, at least. “ teeth bit into the ripped up skin of his lip. ( why did he bother with chap-stick ? ) they were left red and sore. disgusting. “ i want to believe he killed himself. i hope he killed himself. “ the words tasted bitter leaving his mouth.
“ it isn’t me i’m worried about, draco. i’d be perfectly content to watch everything go to hell and judge everyone silently. the rest of my family won’t share that sentiment. “ a family of lion-hearts. heroes among men. never had he resented a word so much. where had being a hero gotten any of them but an early grave ?? “ i can’t leave them. fucking frustrating that is too, considering i can’t fully get on board with either sides. “ after how many wars over the same damn things, always with the same devastating consequences, none of them had learned. “-and now what are you going to do ?? can’t see you being able to un-involve yourself from all this. “
lstrvnge:
he didn’t respond to the other’s remark, finding amusement in his frustration. perhaps their first lesson should be on how to track a target down. but he could see the fire in his eyes and knew it’d have to be something BIGGER. the tacit consent to his terms made him feel some sort of relief, even if he knew it wouldn’t necessarily hold. “ you’re incredibly eager, you know that ? but it’ll do you well. we can start now. i believe the forbidden forest is the best place to learn at the moment. ” he turned on his heels and headed for the castle doors, not checking to see if the slytherin was following.
who knew having a prodigy would make him feel this good ? if he had known earlier, then he would have began sooner. and soon enough the only thoughts in his mind were filled with dark spells and objects. the amount of things he could teach were endless. oh, how he would love to pass on his knowledge of necromancy once he had properly mastered it. there were a few issues here and there. it took him nearly a year to conjure inferi but he had managed it.
as little as he really cared about his parents, he had to admit that his father’s collection in the manor’s study was more than enough for him. in fact, it inspired the hit wizard to achieve a level of greatness. after reading all the books, catching up with the events that unfolded in the past years he found his loyalty to the dark lord wavering in the slightest. how could an heir to salazar slytherin, the greatest dark wizard to ever be known fail to kill a BOY ? he found himself thinking that he could further the cause himself, focus on the matter at hand. but that sort of belief was dangerous, reckless even.
the walk to the forest had been shorter than he anticipated for in a matter of minutes, they stood in a small clearing deep within. “ we’ll start with the unforgivable curses. fairly simply and quite basic. the cruciatus curse is what we’ll begin with. ” it was the one he had supposedly used on alice and frank longbottom. “ now remember, you have to MEAN it. let the anger you feel bubble up, let it come out and control you for once. ” the sight of a small bunny appeared not five feet from them when rodolphus whipped out his wand. “ crucio. ” the word only needed to be a mere mumble for him and it was an almost immediate effect. lowering his wand, he faced albus. “ your turn. ”
“ with the war that’s obviously about to strike the castle, figure it might be better to learn sooner rather than later, yeah ?? besides, i might just finally have a good enough excuse to use them. “ he trailed behind rodolphus cautiously, each step measured by careful glances. he hadn’t yet been given a reason to believe this was a trap, that rodolphus would currently gain anything from such deception, but there was only so much trust one could place in someone that killed people for a living. the only thing that allowed him to remain bold in spite of it all was the promise of things to come. he craved the knowledge of how to boil a man’s blood, and at just what point the body would begin to give out. how to make suffering divine. on the whole, he didn’t feel the need to go on a hunt for each and every death eater - they made things interesting; however, should he find his father was pushed rather than taken a graceful leap...... hell would be a comfort for the guilty party.
of all the things that could have come bounding out of the clearing, it was a fucking rabbit. really, it should have been white to just fully capture the loss of innocence symbolism that seemed so blatantly obvious. the spell was one he was familiar with; usually talked about in conjunction with the atrocities of the war. watching it be cast on something was something else entirely. the way it was cast was effortless, almost careless. albus wondered if this was the sort of thing that got better with practice, or if rodolphus was just a well of hatred. the thing writhed, releasing unholy shrieks as its body contorted, muscles tense, but still twitching. “ you were the kid that dissected the neighbor’s cat for fun, weren’t you ?? “
his wand seemed to twitch in his hand ( was it with excitement, or a warning ? ) as he raised it to the exhausted heap of a rabbit. it promptly lowered itself. there were thousands of scenarios rushing through his head where he could, and would use this spell. a rabbit was involved in none of them. eyes closed, a deep breath was taken, and his wand seemed to raise on its own accord. ‘let it come out and control you for once.’ suddenly, the rabbit was no longer a rabbit. “ crucio. “ he felt the word rush from his mouth, but was left uncertain if it had any affect. until he was. the rabbit stirred, anguished cries ripping from its throat. could its heart give out from the sheer desire of release ?? while fatigue may have played some role in the downgrade of the reaction compared to rodolphus’s turn, he was certain his spell just wasn’t as strong. now that just wouldn’t do. what was he learning this for if he wasn’t learning to do it well ??
“ yours was better. “ disappointment was oh so clearly seeming to leak from every pore. of course rodolphus would be better. he did actually have some semblance of an idea of what the fuck he was doing. “-but i think we broke the rabbit. “ guilt finally began to set in as he realized just what had been done. he didn’t find it prudent to voice this guilt. the grimace gave him away. “ d’i get a re-do ?? on something else........ “
tvddylupins:
smiling at the brief kiss, he let his gaze fall low, considering the boy’s words. he didn’t really know what to do. he knew that his mother wasn’t around, he had bumped into his father but he didn’t say much. he didn’t want to be rejected, that probably terrified him more than he cared to admit. he didn’t want to be presented with a father-figure to then be turned away so quickly and not even get a chance to get to know him–at least the young version of him. teddy wouldn’t even address him as his dad. but again, he kinda wanted to keep a mystery behind them, wanted to think the best of his folks. “but i haven’t gained anything. the only person i want to see who i haven’t yet is my grandma—and she’ll have no idea who i am. so i’m not sure how to approach that… if i approach it.” teddy sighed, shaking his head. “i’ve got you all.”
steam might as well been pouring out of teddy’s head with how easily spotted the gears churning in his head were. it wasn’t as though albus wanted to force teddy into anything he wasn’t ready for ( that was the last thing he wanted ) but he would of liked some happy family story to counteract the bad, and the idea that teddy might end up regretting not reaching out was something that worried him. “ break the news gently, “ he suggested, quite unhelpfully. “ it’s-it’s really just up to you, teddy. don’t do anything you don’t want to, but don’t wind up regretting it later, y’know ?? “ a genuine, lop-sided grin was what met teddy’s head shake. “ always will, too. m’a hard fucker to shake off. “ no matter what did or didn’t happen they’d always have family, and quite frankly, albus found chosen family to be the most important one, anyways.
marcusflvnt:
When Marcus had passed the classroom and caught a scent he knew all too well, he’d rolled his eyes at first. Really, no attempt to even conceal it? Marcus wasn’t stupid; he knew damned good and well that the students managed to sneak any number of substances that they weren’t supposed to into the castle; he’d been one of those students, not so long ago, and his habits since being a student were hardly a shining example. Better that it was him rather than one of the other staff given the current situation, though. Once he’d opened the door, it became immediately clear that this was someone who probably didn’t care all that much about being caught, especially right now. It took only a few seconds for him to identify Albus Potter, sprawled on the floor in a tumble of dark hair, amidst curling ribbons of smoke.
Marcus didn’t do anything beyond lift an eyebrow and give a faint quirk of lips when the other winked at him lazily. “If you actually cared either way, you’d have cast a charm to dispel the scent by the door.” With a shrug of his shoulders, he drew his wand and did precisely that before dropping to the floor, crossing his legs where he sat. “Most people tiptoeing around you as though you’re made of glass gets old fast, I’m sure. I’m going to sit here while you finish that and make sure no one else comes in here instead, before you presumably head back to Slytherin. Clear enough?”
seeing that the other had no intentions of leaving for the time being, he took a moment to stare marcus over. there was something intrinsically different in having a professor so close in age; more aware of the students, but trusted amongst the teachers. almost stuck in a strange transitioning phase. “ mmm, but it would have been pretty fucking rude of me not to offer to anyone who might want to join in, yeah ?? do my own part in corrupting the youth in these dark times and all. “ in all reality, the likelihood of him accepting most students who wanted to join him with welcoming arms was slim to none; hexes would have been given away freely. he thought the excuse he had given made a much better story.
“ surely you’re aware i’m a fragile little thing ?? m’afraid if you say anything that could be even remotely construed at mean, i might just burst into tears and shatter on you. “ a deep drag. smoke was exhaled through his nose this time. did he look like one of the dragons from the muggle fairy-tales his dad would read to him ?? he would like to believe that he did. “-don’t need to babysit me, y’know. m’not going to go tumble off the astronomy tower. “ were his words too harsh ?? he didn’t think professor flint would have the audacity to pretend to act offended. “ i do alright looking after myself. in the scenario where i do get myself into a fucked up situation, well....... oops. “

the mood inside the castle seemed to have changed once again and the brunette wasn’t sure how much more of this roller coaster she could take. the heaviness that surrounded those in this era because of the first wizarding war had been immediately obvious but the grief she was sensing now? it seemed to bounce of the walls and she wasn’t entirely sure of how she should feel, she had yet to find lily or anyone for that matter figuring that perhaps avoidance of such topics would be the best course of action. this was after not supposed to be their future, at least not completely. so she had taken to wandering across the halls, common room curfew or not be damned which was unlike her but everything she currently felt was foreign so perhaps that was the explanation she needed for her actions.
her conversation with professor flint was still reeling inside of her head but she was still convinced that the reason they were here was just another attempt at… ‘ let the adults handle it. ‘ her own voice spoke inside of her head and she sighed, she’d been looking through the halls staring into trophy cases and finding familiar names inside of it and such an action brought her comfort in an odd way a bit unconventional but she’d take it. however when she rounded a corner doe eyes went a bit wide as she found that someone was near the very next case she had wanted to look through. which meant that she had to wait and she wasn’t exactly a patient person but rushing someone wasn’t her style either.
it was awkward to say the least, she was standing there almost staring and she didn’t know just what to do. not until the young man who was near by spoke to her and she jumped in response a little taken by surprise. “ wasn’t staring at you mate.. it was just… “ her thoughts were interrupted as soon as she heard the words ‘ alice longbottom. ‘ now that was a mouthful stepping closer she shook her head a few times before sighing. “ fortescue, my name it’s alice fortescue. “ she corrected unsure exactly of why she had considering what she knew of her future. still she quirked an eyebrow at his next observation “ why would i have any criticism for you? i’m not an expert trophy case cleaner i wouldn’t know. “ still the words he’d used memory lane, that made her realize that perhaps he’d known her at some point. “ but do we know each other? “
“-pointedly observing ?? “ eyes rolled in an obvious show of disbelief. delicately placing the trophy back into the safety of its home, albus turned around to look at her fully. fortescue. that was interesting. he had never learned alice’s maiden name --- or that uncle neville was apparently very closely related to the founders of a small ice-cream empire. it was fitting. “ fortescue, then. to be longbottom, possibly ?? “ he inquired.
“ everyone seems to. less so about trophy cleaning than every other aspect of my behavior recently, either that or they don’t say anything. but feel free to add trophy cleaning to the list. was never going to make a good janitor anyways. “ chewing his lower lip - a habit he desperately needed to rid himself of - he wondered how much was best left unsaid. there was no point in making another more upset then they needed to be; especially when he wasn’t in the mood to deal with the fallout. though, he did wish he knew just how amiable she was with his grandparents before diving into what was becoming an increasingly convoluted family tree. “ no. haven’t met you once in my life, actually. m’albus potter. your future kid’s my goddad. “ short, sweet and simple seemed to be the best place to start. “ harry potter’s kid. sort-of. “ was that a good way to introduce himself anymore ?? he was but he wasn’t. “ introductions aside... there a reason you were lurking around trophy cases late at night ?? “ a hypocritical question ?? yes. but he knew exactly why he was lurking.

Thank God she hadn’t been eating or drinking anything when she looked up to see who it had been in front of her or she would have choked. The last future-child of the three that she had to meet, and of course it had to have been right after the incident and look exactly like him. She was thankful it hadn’t been James (either James, to be honest), because James looked more like Harry than Albus did and she didn’t know if she would be able to stay together if that had happened. She hadn’t been prepared to see Albus, and quite frankly she had no idea how to reply. There was a part of her that wanted to tell him to sod right off, but the majority of what she wanted to do was not do that. They were both grieving, and it wouldn’t be fair to Albus for Ginny to not be the someone that he may need right now. He was stuck in this timeline, not able to see his real mother, and she was still technically (by blood) his mother even though the probability of that ever happening was nonexistent now. Maybe he needed something familial to help him cope, Ginny didn’t know. “I’m not going to do that,” she replied with a shake of her head, “but please don’t call me Mum, I’m not your Mum; if you do, I will then tell you to sod off. I’ve already been called Mrs. Potter and that was enough for me.”
gauging ginny’s reactions wasn’t an act he was unfamiliar with ---- at least, not entirely. small changes in demeanor were bound to have changed but albus was certain defining ticks and tells would have most likely persisted through the decades. from a glance, it took no effort to see she was taken aback by his presence. he doubted he was the person she wanted to see right now, and he was beginning to feel egocentric for his careless introduction. “ as long as i don’t get any stern speeches about my language, don’t think we’ll have to worry about that. “ it seemed as though his siblings and he were nothing but an accident in time anymore. something that persisted in an impossible way, a way that wouldn’t bring comfort to anyone. the moment his father had died, and her remained, he almost felt as though he had become a sort of intruder to his own family.
“ i know m’not your kid, that i’m probably more a unwanted problem then anything, but i was raised being taught that family was the best damn thing you got in this life. i know that i’m not, really, to a lot of people here but i can’t sit well knowing that someone i’ve cared about, past, present. future, whatever, is in pain without offering something. “ a deep breath. out of all the conversations he had in his life, or was going to, this certainly had to be at least one of the most uncomfortable. “ i get its hard for me to do much of anything, that you’re going to feel fucking awful for a time, but i still needed to offer. whether its memories put in a pensive so you can see what he would have looked like when he turned forty or anything like that, or just going out for a honeyduke’s run, i just wanted to know you have one more person who’d do that for you. “ never had he been so fascinated with a bowl of mashed potatoes. everything coming out of his mouth was no doubt redundant, something countless of people - people she had actually wanted to - had said to her. saying any of it felt childish and naive. “ so yeah........ should leave you to your breakfast then. “

that sounded… unusual. had lysander been in his place, he would have been wailing until next week. but they weren’t the same person and he understood that. albus was free to grieve in whatever way he chose. he meant what he said that he’d be there no matter what. “ you don’t need to cry. you DON’T. tears aren’t the only indication of sorrow. i read something about this lady who kept smiling when someone died. it was just something she did, couldn’t quite explain it. ” he looked into the slytherin’s eyes, meeting his best friend’s desperation with his own.
a small smile appeared, following a soft chuckle. “ plants aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, you know that. but it’s okay. you don’t need to feel responsible for us. we can take care of ourselves, al. and we’ll all get through this together. we’ll always have each other. ” he meant every word of it. nothing albus could say or do would make lysander turn his back on the individual. he couldn’t even imagine something like that.
“ maybe next week ? it’s just a little bit far, you know ? ” he nodded his head before getting up to grab a jumper. in a matter of seconds, he had his shoes on and was ready to leave. “ come on, rob. you still need to get some sleep, my pockets aren’t comfortable. ” lysander led the bowtruckle to a small version of it’s home tree by his bed. “ how about hogsmeade ? we could get you a nice butterbeer and a snack ? or muggle london, if you’d like ? ” the hufflepuff’s main and only goal for the night was to do everything in his power to just… be there for his best mate.
“ probably best m’not doing that. people’d start thinking i had something to do with it. “ i don’t-i don’t know that i’m actually properly grieving him. s’more a wakeup call than anything....... and me not vanishing with him has some serious implications for all of us, dunnit ?? “ perhaps he just needed someone to vent to. to escape prying eyes and instead be received with eyes filled with acceptance, no matter the his words.
“-but i think they do say something about someone’s ability to take care of things and be responsible, yeah ?? you’re good at that shit. “ he had always done best talking things out; throwing ideas at other’s until he could find an ounce of sense in his own thoughts. it was part of what his obsession with doing his homework had been. a cheap task to occupy his mind and force him to think of things in a different way. “ i know you can......but i’m not just gonna be okay with watching someone try and hurt any of you, y’know. s’like, i know if i had to kill to keep you all safe, i would --- but until now i never thought i’d have to. “ staring down at still shaking hands, he wondered just how much things could be altered. if their was any scenario where he was even supposed to exist here. “ ‘course we will, lys. we’re family. “
he fell back against lys’s bed, watching him fix things before they went on a trip. he was fortunate. despite all that he had seemed to lose in the last few months, he still had so much more. he only wished that knowing this made him feel better. “ c’you pass me an extra one of those ?? knowing my luck, i’d get myself sick to top the day off. “ gesturing to the jumper, he watched on, entertained as rob was put to bed. how did bowtruckles age ?? “ muggle london. away from this massive fuck-up ..... d’you think the muggles are having the same problems with time ?? “ the wizarding population tripling was one thing, the muggle population was a different, much larger beast entirely. “ lys......does anywhere sell soft-serveice cream at two in the morning ?? “

when rodolphus lestrange didn’t want to be found, he was nearly impossible to track down. the key was to never stay in one place for too long, yet he couldn’t change positions too often. it was an ART he discovered during his fourth year at hogwarts. none of his memories from the time he was a student were looked at fondly. none of them were terrible but, unlike many others, he didn’t see the castle as a second home.
out of the corner of his eye, he saw him. the seventh year slytherin who claimed to be alexander bones. after their encounter, rodolphus had done some digging. if the individual was anything like a younger version of the hit wizard, then nothing he spoke would have proven to be true. and he was right. but imagine his surprise, discovering that the student he found lurking with a book about the dark arts was a son of HARRY POTTER. the name was even more so. albus severus potter. he had been glad to learn of the slytherin’s true identity but it did make things more difficult. rodolphus was after the wizard’s father. he was after everyone the boy associated with. but that made it all the more interesting. he never was one to back out of a challenge.
so when he felt a grip on his wrist, he turned around slowly. “ i do like to hear it on a regular basis. ” his feet were planted into the ground as he pulled his arm back the second the grip was released. the only noticeable emotion flashing behind his eyes was amusement. he had hoped albus would seek him out, though he wouldn’t have made a bet on it. “ albus severus potter. ” it was the FIRST time he spoke the name out loud and how marvelous it sounded. “ of course my offer still stands. ” he quirked an eyebrow. family was always a tricky thing. never in a million years would he harm his brother but when it came to others, he couldn’t care LESS about who they loved or felt obligated to. his compassion was limited in that sense.
“ what i hope to gain, in return. is an ALLY. you won’t use anything i’ll teach you on me and you’ll support me when i need you to. that’s all i ask. fairly simple, really. you won’t need to lay a finger on your family or friends and i give you my word that i will not either. ” but he couldn’t make any promises on behalf of anyone else he worked with. rodolphus still wasn’t entirely sure whether or not he could trust a son of the boy who lived, but he never planned on doing so. he needed someone who could PROPERLY learn, who could actually benefit from doing so. and if they ended up on opposite sides of the battle field, how interesting would it be.
eyes rolled, obviously unimpressed with what the other seemed to consider a skill. it was, in all actuality, quite impressive, but he had wasted how much of the day on a never-ending goose chase through the school ?? moments when he could have been doing something important, learning something important. “ m’glad you like hearing it, because if i ever have to spend as long looking for you as i just did, i’m getting you a bell or something. “ huffed, obviously empty threats would have no effect on the other, that he already knew —— but he still wanted him to know just how disgruntled he was over the ordeal.
hearing his name slip from rodolphus’s mouth was strange. he had heard it an incalculable amount of time, in just as many tones, but never like that. his name was something that others scoffed at, were left befuddled by, or just plain amused. rodolphus was none of those things. the way it fell from his tongue left albus feeling, as though for once in his life, someone was fond of it. he wasn’t sure what to make of that. “ i guess that just leaves the details then, yeah ?? the whens and wheres of the matters ?? m’not so picky about that. might be best for you to decide. “ he was willingly giving the other control. it wasn’t a feeling he enjoyed, but he supposed there would have to be some amount of understanding never trust between them if this would go smoothly. he hoped if he allowed rodolphus to remain comfortable in his position, that his say in these matters would be more openly received. he doubted it.
“ merlin, s’alot easier when guys just ask me for drugs or a blowjob or money, “ albus muttered, absentmindedly running a hand through his hair. this was much more of a complex deal, one that would waver and blur at times. one that left him unsure of just what it entailed. he was torn between apprehension and morbid curiosity over the matter. still, the fact that he had assured him that he himself wouldn’t harm his family was more than he expected; now if only he could get the rest of the lot to treat them with the same regard. nails dug into the palms of his hand, and teeth were dangerously close from biting through the skin of his lip as he nodded once, solemnly, to seal the deal. they always did say drinking from the devil’s cup tasted sweet.
“ so, would it be best to start this now ?? discuss fine details ?? or d’you want me to go on my way ?? “ there was a rush, undeniable exhilaration at the fact that he was doing this. he’d experience firsthand what the most restricted, most coveted spells amongst the dark wizards were. he’d be learning them. he was sure the grin he had been trying so hard to bite ( the first genuine one since his father's death ) back was written plainly on his face. no matter how this ended, it would be a helluva ride.

Like she had expected, no sleep had come last night. Tossing and turning with the images of what had happened the previous morning kept repeating over and over again. Being hit with a Stunning Spell by Draco wasn’t being considered as getting any shut-eye, if she was being honest. She came to as quickly as she went out it seemed so it wasn’t being counted as even a nap. Exhaustion was an understatement, but sleep wasn’t tempting whatsoever. Watching the sun slowly compress the shadows, lighting up the room with every passing minute, she decided to get before anyone did. It’d been a full 24 hours now…. Shaking the thought, she repeated her brother’s words: be strong. Getting dressed, she headed down to the Great Hall. She wasn’t hungry, however she hadn’t eaten in more than 30 hours so she knew her body needed some kind of nourishment. Had to keep up appearances, had to make people believe that she was actually keeping a level head. The thought of her actually being okay was laughable, honestly. Who was okay now anyway? After ten minutes of peace (which was dangerous because it meant no distractions from what was going on in her head) with her bowl of oatmeal that she hadn’t eaten a bite of yet, she heard someone sit down in front her at the Gyrffindor before spotting the figure at the corner of her eye. The whole Great Hall was empty for a change, damn it. Why couldn’t they have given the space she desperately wanted? “Of all the open seats, you chose the one in front of me,” she grumbled, still absentmindedly stirring the oatmeal. “Sorry,” she apologized with her eyebrows scrunching together, “Mornin’.” Not looking up at the person, she continued to be more invested in studying her bowl than seeing who had sat down in front of her.
his mother; it hadn’t been hard to spot her in a crowd. flaming red hair and dark circles ( not that he could so easily judge another for lack of sleep ) that stood out prominently seemed to compose her at first glance. to be quite frank, he wasn’t certain he’d ever seen his mother in such a miserable state. a dull ache seemed to start in his heart at the realization. was now the time to approach her ?? she was vulnerable, and on one hand, seeing him might give her something to hold onto, on the other there was a very real possibility that she didn’t want him. want him as a part of her life, her routine, her child, anything. it wasn’t as though she had the same choice his mother did in the matter. he could very well be an unwanted, unanticipated burden. hoping no boundaries would be trodden on, he tentatively began the walk towards the gryffindor table, perching himself across from her.
“ s’the only one i wanted. “ he admitted, pushing the food on the table away from himself. when was the last time he had ate ?? “ nah, you got every right to be unapproachable. merlin knows i accidentally threatened to bite out poor teddy’s neck. “ chuckling apprehensively, eyes that had been trained on the table looked up to stare at the top of his mother’s head. “ guess i should probably introduce myself, huh ?? m’albus. now’s the part where you can tell me if you want me to fuck off or not. “
But my bones knew something wonderful about the darkness –
