Sharon: I might have considered taking you with me if you hadnât used that poor choice of words. I have a reputation, I canât be seen with someone who says âfriend date.â Patriarchy just called and demanded its expression.Â
Clint: Fight me, wow. Are we going to eat or what, Carter?
agentburger13:
Sharon: so what if i told you i have finally found the worldâs best burger?
Clint:Â iâd say please bring me on a friend date and letâs get those burgers.
CHARLIE.
Charlie frowned at the words. He didnât know much about his grandparents, just that it was a sore topic for the man â not like Clint was a sore topic, though. His grandparents? It was a topic that could set his father off. So, Charlie always knew it had to be bad. Hearing it straight from the manâs mouth had him wincing though. It didnât mean he forgave his dad for all the shit heâs put up with over the years, but it was the start to understanding why.Â
âProbably,â Charlie confirmed. He reckoned his dad would show up when he was ready â when he got bored of doing whatever it was he was doing. His eyes snapped up at the man when his arms were extended, his entire body tensing. Shit, he wanted a hug. He shifted a bit on his feet uncomfortably before he slowly inched towards him to awkwardly lean over and give the other a one-armed hug, clearly not used to this. âYeah⌠um, nice to meet you, too, Uncle Clint.âÂ
âiâm betting that heâll show his face again.â clint was hoping it wouldnât be around here because that would surely ruin him. he wouldnât admit aloud just how terrified he was of the other and the only two people he knew about that fear was bobbi and natasha because they both knew stories from his childhood. it was slightly reassuring that this was the first time he and charlie were meeting so it meant barney wasnât taking any chances with that part. âletâs hope he doesnât though.â the man whispered under his breath.
âthis hug thing will get easier.. promise.â clint laughed, giving him a quick pat on the back before pulling away. he was basically a carbon copy of clint when he was younger, he even looked like him too which was surprising. âwait, so are you enrolled at hot?â he asked then, his hand moving to toy with his aid. âor do you want to be?â
CARA.
âAlright.â She shrugged. Cara wasnât so sure about him doing work when he should be recovering. âPasta is fine with me.â She answered. The girl never thought that sheâd be here right now, about to eat with Clint. She wasnât fond of him from the beginning, thinking he was the reason her parents werenât ever going to work but she started getting to know him. âItâs about someone that I may or may not have feelings for..â She said, shifting her gaze elsewhere feeling weird about talking to him about this.
âthen pasta it is.â clint nodded, already moving around the kitchen to grab things so he could make a start. he was still wincing every so often, but it wasnât bothering him much. he needed to start to move again so even doing this little task was perfect. he froze slightly as cara admitted what she wanted to talk about, his eyes falling to the pasta he was currently putting into a pot. he hadnât spoke like this with any of his daughters, but he figured he could just listen to what she had to say. âso.. you do like this person..â he whispered, turning to look at her with a smile. âalright, start talking then. your secretâs safe with me. i promise.â
âOh. From the way you stood up like that, I thought it was going to go a different way.â

CHARLIE.
âOh,â Charlie breathed out. He didnât mention he knew a number of languages. That Barney dealt with too many clients not to have picked up at least a few sentences here and there, but ASL? That had been something his dad had sat down with him and walked him through.
âYeah, he did. Is he a shit-brother as much as he is a dad?â he wondered. He hadnât meant to ask it but it was bothering him. It had for a long time. He knew they didnât talk much, but he had no idea if their relationship was bad or they just took different paths.
âNo, no, I donât â I donât want anything and he doesnât either. I mean, you canât want something when your dead,â he admitted bluntly. âOr⌠might be dead, probably dead. He left a few weeks ago and didnât come back. Well, I mean, heâs done it before. When I was nine, but he left a note that he was going away with some woman he met, and he left me money for pizza.â
âwell, he didnât just start being horrible with you, kid.â clint shrugged, relaxing more and more as the younger boy spoke. he could clearly see a lot of teenage clint in him, which was the only reason why he was giving him the time of day. âhe just.. learned from our dad, i guess.â he shrugged, continuing just because he didnât know how much charlie actually knew about the barton family. â---he used to beat us. your dad, me, your grandma.. it wasnât a healthy household.â and apparently, barney had learned from example in a bad way.
âhonestly? heâs probably alive.â barney may have been stupid, and clearly only cared about himself, but he knew how to take care of himself and clint didnât see him dying anytime soon. plus he figured if that happened, heâd still be notified if something occurred just because of the shared surname. âiâm uh.. sorry to hear that.â how could he just do that when clint tried to give his kids the entire world was beyond him. âwell, youâre a barton, of course you like pizza.â he forced a smile then, moving forward and extending his arms as if he wanted a hug --- something clint knew he was completely deprived of as a teenager. âitâs nice to meet you, charlie.. really.â
CARA,
âGood. How are you feeling? Any pain and what not?â she asked, pulling herself up onto the counter. âIt was no problem.â She shrugged, looking at the watch. âAnything is fine, though i feel like i should cook something and you should be resting.â She said, jumping off and taking the food out of the bag. There was somethign to talk about but she felt hesitant. âIf i talk to you, can i trust you wonât go telling my mom?â
âiâm adapting, itâs cool, donât worry about it.â if there was one thing he knew how to do, it was adapt. they were always adapting to situations, especially as an agent, but that had all came with practice and having done it for years. âi can cook you something, iâm fine. what do you want?â he was glad that he had built a better relationship with cara, especially because he thought sheâd be a hard one to get through to. âas long as it doesnât endanger you too much.. i can keep it a secret. promise.â
CARA.
Cara was about to knock on the door once more but was beaten to it with the door opening. âTook you long enough.â She stated as she walked in. âIâm not here to see my mom.â She added, following him to the kitchen. âHow are they?â She asked, setting the bag of food on the counter. âThatâs for you and so is this.â Holding up a small gift before holding it out to him. âItâs nothing big but yeah, if you donât like it you can always return it. I got it this one specifically because it kind of looked like an arrow head so uh yeah.â
âtheyâre alright. i think weâre just waiting on somebody from shield to make something better.. but theyâre working.â they werenât very comfortable, but he knew that would come with getting used to them. he was just glad to have some assistance and was able to hear a few things. âoh, wow.. thatâs sweet of you.â clint mumbled with a raised eyebrow, smiling between the two items. âno -- i love it. thank you.. really.â and he really did. âcan i make you something to eat? or do you wanna talk about something or??â
CARA.
Cara had decided to stop by Clintâs place. She wanted to see how he was holding up after his mission. Of course she had food for him and a small gift, as a get well soon thing. When she got to his door, she knocked on it before waiting. Though, she did need someone to talk to and she thought Clint could be someone she could talk to. Sighing, she knocked on it again before calling out his name. âBarton! Open up.â @profbarton
the voice had caught him off guard, practically echoing throughout the house as he moved from the kitchen so he could answer the door, noticing how lucky was already right next to him, prepared to see who it was. though he already knew it was cara. swinging the door open, he gave her a small smile. âcara.. hey.â he pushed the door open, already making his way back into the kitchen. âyour mom isnât home today, sheâs probably at the school if you were looking for her.â clint explained, turning around to look at her and pointing towards the aids he was wearing. â--and youâre actually the first person iâve heard too with these in. an agent just left minutes before you came with them.. so thatâs cool.â he moved to wash his hands, tilting his head back around to her. âdo you need something though?â
ÂŤThis is bad. This is bad and you are a dummy. This is what you get for trying to help people. So note to self, then. For the next life: screw everybody. Oh, who am I fooling? I donât want a next life. I just want a nap.Âť
