An Honest Society is A Good society

I am Alceste, the misanthrope. I disapprove of when people are fake and do not say what they truly believe. I'm a misanthrope because I hate society because this society I live in is fake. I'm so disappointed in how fake people act sometimes that I just want to run off to a deserted island.

It is not how another man acts,

Philinte, you are my friend, however we obviously do not agree on how to respond to others imperfections. How will men ever become better men if you just tell them that they are great even if they have cracks? How will men know what to improve upon if you do not tell them? When I am honest to people, they can truly know how to improve themselves. However, when people like you simply try to appease other people and you tell them that they are great, then people will not will never know how to improve themselves.

Eminem is a true inspiration for me as he should be for everyone. Eminem is sincere and brutally honest to everybody, and in the song Cleaning Out My Closet Eminem is even very honest about his mama and his papa. Eminem does not try to appease his parents, no, “rather than ignoring [their wrong doings], [Eminem] strenuously criticizes [his parents] for them”in a song for the whole world to hear. Eminem talks about how his mom mistreated him, about how she did drugs, and about how she never really played the role of his mother. Eminem criticizes his dad who left when Eminem was very young. Many people would be offended if their parents were spoken of like this, but Eminem is so honest that he speaks the horrible truth even about his parents. Eminem did not diss his parents just to get recognition, Eminem dissed his parents because he truly had this hatred of them inside him. When I listen to this song it makes me sad because Eminem talks about such sad things and I know they are true because he is so honest. Thats why I so greatly admire Eminem, because he is so honest, and I’m sure Eminem “wishes no place in a dishonest heart,”but Eminem I can assure you my heart is certainly not dishonest.

 My dear friend Alceste, I do agree that Eminem is an excellent rapper,

But did you ever consider that he is doing this to get richer or how they say “make paper?”

I feel that his honesty could be somewhat true,

But he could also be using his ridiculous and obscene lyrics to mesmerize you.

I know not of his true intentions, good or bad, simply because I am not him.

Yet as Eminem says himself, “”A lot of my rhymes are just to get chuckles out of people. Anybody with half a brain is going to be able to tell when I’m joking and when I’m serious.”

But I trust you can tell, for I know you are smart,

That what Eminem is saying isn’t from his heart.

Philinte, Yes it is true that a lot of Eminem's songs are not true and he just sings them to "piss people off," and to "create controversy." However some of Eminem's songs speak the truth, Philinte, "my god, you ought to die of self-disgust" for not being able to realize that this song Cleaning Out My Closet is the truth about Eminem's parents. Yes, he makes money off this song, but Eminem was inspired to write this song because of his hatred for his parents. By the way, we are talking about the song Cleaning Out My Closet by Eminem, and Philinte, the reference you made about "making paper," is from the song Look At Me Now by Chris Brown.

Mitt Romney, no, I don't agree with everything he says because his honesty is questionable, however, this speech he gave about his home state Michigan, is so sincere, and honest, and beautiful. Romney is not at all embarrassed to speak his true heart to the world. It very impressive how honest Mitt is in this speech. Mitt said that in Michigan the trees are the perfect height, and that the grass is the perfect color for the time of year. Mitt Romney did not try to appease other trees in other parts of the world, no, he sincerely said that the trees in michigan are the perfect height, he did not care about want other trees would think. Same with the grass, Mitt was even totally honest about the color of the grass, a brownish-greenish color is what he said. If you are not willing to be that honest about the trees and grass where you live, then "my god, you ought to die of self-disgust."

Eliante, you understand how a society should sincere, for you are most sincere. You are correct, why should our words have to appease? Your sister does possess a horrible facade, it simply shows how fake she is, why must she appease every man that comes to her door? Eliante, I wish everybody could share your views on society, it would make our society better, by far. However most people are fake and make me want to "flee this bitter world where vice is king... where I'll be free to have an honest heart."

How could an Italian court throw out a case against former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi! The biggest liar ever. Berlusconi is an authoritative figure, who should be a role model and he should be honest. But no, Berlusconi pays for sex with underage girls and withholds paying taxes, then rather than being honest about his crimes, he lies about what he has done, and he bribes lawyers to with hold testimony to protect him. About how Berlusconi bribed lawyers, the kind of sounds like the court cases against me, where the other side bribed the judges. Berlusconi also used the fact that he had the majority in Parliament to pass new laws that kept him safe from prosecution. This is what I hate about society, the Italian court threw out the case because they could not prosecute him because the case had just dragged on for too long since the prosecution faced so many legal challenges from laws passed under Berlusconi. I cannot believe that the biggest liar ever can escape prosecution. I despise all leaders like Berlusconi, "there's none I would spare. All are corrupt." I'm so I'm so I'm so I'm so I'm so honest to you. Not!

Drake is one of my favorite poets, however I think he was being fake with his song make me proud. Half of the song is Drake telling Nicki Minaj how proud he is of her, but Drake just gives nonspecific ambiguous reasons for being proud of Nicki Minaj, if he sincerely were proud of her he would give far more specific meaningful reasons. You may think that my chastisement of Drake is severe, however I think Drake was just being fake and his motives for his deluge of praise upon Nicki Minaj were simply pecuniary. Philinte would say that "these faults of which [I] so complain are part of human nature." Though Philinte is wrong, one should not give fake praise just because it is part of human nature, that is not an excuse for being fake!

Celimene, you are totally right, why should you be impressed be some guy flattering himself? Celimene, don't go with Acaste, it does not matter if someone thinks that they are great if others do not sincerely believe that they are great as well. You should tell Acaste to go "find [his] flatterers, and be better treated." So that he can at least say that he is not the only one that sincerely thinks he is great.

I tell people whatever I want to tell them, if I don't like them, then I tell them! However our society is plauged by people like Philinte who are fake. If I could control people "I'd have them be sincere, and never part with any word that isn't from the heart" (688). I mean, I just what people to speak the truth. Like my friend Mr. Uhler, an english teacher at AHS, he is never fake and always says what comes from his heart. For example when he sincerely loves a literary work, he expresses his sincere feelings to his class, just as I would! Mr. Uhler is never fake when he praises literary works.
