I think the biggest problem here is that fiction doesn’t affect people the way you think it does.
Fiction itself will not change the average person’s morals. If you are simply reading fanfic, and your MORALS are being changed, that’s something to look into.
If, say, the person engaging with the media was an impressionable child, someone with a mental disability and/or illness that can skew their view on fiction, or someone who has a third party involved (such as someone purposefully showing them this content with the intent of making it seem “okay”) then fiction can affect them in major ways.
But for the average person, that’s just not how it works, at all.
Reading child x adult fanfic will not make you believe that it is okay irl. If it does, that means there’s something else happening there (such as something listed above). If you were to read child x adult fanfic, would it make YOU think that’s okay irl? If you said yes, you’re just telling on yourself.
That last sentence is just… wrong.
Fiction and reality do not exist in the same realm, obviously. And they do not have the same rules.
Someone who has no interest in having sex irl can still like smut, and maybe even turned on by it, and still have no interest in sex irl.
Someone can like certain kinks in fiction (even “unproblematic” ones, like bondage) and not like them irl.
This especially goes for taboo things.
In fiction, no one can be hurt, or abused, or traumatized. There is no victim in fiction.
Which creates a great (and healthy!) way to explore taboo topics, interests, and feelings.
That’s the reason “forbidden love” is such a popular trope. People LOVE taboo fiction, because it’s a way to explore interests and emotions that wouldn’t be safe to explore irl.
