People that come to your life won’t stay as you expect them to be. Some are just meant to drop by and give you crucial lessons you’ll be needing in the future. They are meant to make you wiser, not the academic kind of intelligence, rather a more fragile, less emotional, more realistic vision in life. It wont be easy though. It will hurt like hell. You’ll feel a slap of 10 jealous women in your face. Sometimes you’ll even feel numb and pain at the same time.
Friends. A powerful label, usually the start of awkward, happy and crazy memories. Many claim to be one of yours and you believe them. But everything that are not tested cannot be trusted.
I worked as a QA and I know by heart the importance of testing in software and technical side. Every time a story is released without being tested, doubt is in my heart. Same goes with the buildings, the testing they do with the materials are more intense since safety of the people is at hand if anything happened.
Relational testing is painful yet necessary. It will make you vulnerable at the start of the process but when you went through it, the result will definitely worth every ounce of pain you’ve felt.
But what if you failed? What if you’ve trusted too well to the point of testing-the-depth-of-water-with-both-feet kind of trust? And you’ve failed to see the under current that will make you vulnerable and defenseless?
“Choose your friends” the common advice that I take to heart. Because your friends will have a great impact in your decisions and eventually in your destiny. No matter how subtle their influence is in your life, little things that accumulate will have great impact more than you realized and allowed them to be. But admit it, choosing is tough. You made mistakes numerous times in this area. Maybe you choose friends with vices that will lead you to a miserable life, or perhaps just a friend that wont jive with your character and interests. Not every friendship that doesn’t work necessarily have to be wrong. Sometimes you just realize that you can’t be friends again and you both stoop down to a safer label that requires minimal trust: being acquaintances.
If winning every argument is your aim, it will take not too soon to loose if not all, a good number of your good, loyal friends. Sometimes, you have to know and keenly choose your battles. If winning an argument will cause you to loose the friendship, think twice. Is it worth it? I would rather lose in an argument and swallow my pride and win back the friendship that once was shattered than to keep my pride and let the friendship slowly die.
I love to show my real self. I’m not afraid of confrontation, I’m even a fond of it. But not everything can be fixed by confrontation. Sometimes, no matter how much you love to save the friendship and explain yourself and where you’re coming from, if the other party has a closed ears, literally nothing good will happen. Save your energy, smile, then slowly walk away. Accept the fact that some things are not meant to be yours.
It is not easy, even seems impossible at times, but I’ll tell you this. You will not die, you will feel pain but as the song goes by, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” :) You will thrive to live again and move on from the pain. The battle scars you have is the story book you will tell the younger generations. Be wise, there’s a time to embrace and a time to let go. Give yourself a favor and stop holding on. Let go, say your goodbye and walk away. :)
