Logan's Run by William F Nolan and George Clayton Johnson was published in 1967. The book was followed up with Logan's World, Logan's Search and Logan's Return. It inspired the movie in 1976, TV series in 1977 through 1978, as well as various comic books and games. The story followed Logan 3 who was a Sandman whose job was to hunt down and kill citizens who ran instead of submit to the mandatory euthanasia at the age of 21. The book was set in 2116. I feel like when you're leaving the place you went to for vacation, it's also a part of you that you're leaving. Because in a way you become so enveloped in the culture, the people, the lifestyle, the food, the sights. It's like you gain a bit of that place and feel almost at home. And of course to a regular tourist or to a local this sounds very cliche and just utter nonsense. But as an outsider when you go and stay in small apartments in the heart of a village and do things the way the locals do- it's nice to feel like you belong there for a little while.
Or maybe this want or need to belong is something second generation migrants or those inherently have and tend to get sentimental and the smallest of leaving aways :p
