Nathan: Lol, I doubt you ramble. I'm not sure it's rambling if it's actual knowledge! But the cute animals totally help, I'm sure.

Nathan: I think so too. A lot of people just...don't seem to try very hard lol.

Nathan: Oh gosh, me neither. I was a very good kid. I didn't get out much. Spent a lot of time at home.

Alexander: I ramble a little bit. Sometimes. I just get really excited and just...word vomit.

Alexander: They don't, unfortunately. Too many people just...coast through life.

Alexander: Likewise. I have a lot of sisters, so I was mostly just...home helping corral them all.

Nathan: I'm normally not either lol. But it helps when it's computer talk. Honestly, not very many people are as into it as I am.

Nathan: It makes it a lot easier. But...I'd like to think I'm good at what I do. I try very hard, at least.

Nathan: It's really not. I've never been much good at it. Even as a kid lol. I'd feel too guilty.

Alexander: That's how I feel with my job, tho I guess more people kinda love animals maybe. So they at least listen politely when I ramble.

Alexander: Trying is a big part of it, I think. Makes a lot of difference compared to most people.

Alexander: Haha, yeah. I was a good kid mostly. I don't...think I ever really acted out.

Nathan: I dunno! I guess I just kind of...make a lot of phone calls. I can be uh...I can be pretty convincing.

Nathan: Hard to believe, I know, but it's easier when I know what I'm talking about.

Nathan: Gosh, me too. It just seems like way too much effort. I'll just stick to being decent and telling the truth.

Alexander: Oh! That's really impressive, then. I am...not at all convincing, lol.

Alexander: You must be very good at what you do.

Alexander: Yeah, I think that's the best option. It's not great lying.

Nathan: Just me! I mean, when I'm with the FBI there's normally a team, but out of contract with them it's just me.

Nathan: Me too. I think it's less complicated that way? I don't know how some people weave these intricate lies tbh.

Alexander: Oh, wow, that must...be a lot to handle on your own. How do you do it?

Alexander: Much less complicated. I'd get too lost in my own lies if I tried, I think.

Nathan: Banks, big corporations like Disney and Universal, that sort of thing. I could probably reach out to celebrities too, or politicians but...I haven't ever done that.

Nathan: I think so too. I'm kind of a big proponent of that. Lying is just...messy and kind of mean.

Alexander: Seems like that would be hard to handle. Is it just you doing it or do you have...a team?

Alexander: I agree. I try to be as honest as possible usually.

“Aa, that explains a lot.” It actually explained everything. “That must be an interesting job for sure. Even with the dangers of it.” It surely would be cool to work with animals for your living, but Julius probably could never do such job. He surely would like to, but taking care of animals would need so much knowledge and Julius was sure such information wouldn’t stay in his head well enough.

“It’s incredible. Dangerous and busy, I don’t get a lot of time to myself, but worth every second of it,” he agreed, warmly, his smile cocking at his lips in a fond manner. The job was demanding and he was often at risk because of the nature of it, but it was all something Alexander had learned to accept and embrace about the career path. There was little else he could see himself doing with his life and he doubted anything else could even remotely measure up.

Nathan: Oh, not much really. I do a lot of freelance work? So I reach out to companies and hope they'll put me in a contract to test their stuff.

Nathan: Probably a little sad lol, but at least it's honest.

Alexander: That sounds like a lot of work. How do you decide which companies to reach out to?

Alexander: Honesty, I think, is very important.

Nathan: Pretty much all the time, honestly! I don't have any contract work going on at the moment, and I work from home otherwise.

Nathan: Me too. Animals are better than people half the time anyway lol.

Alexander: What do you do when not on a contract?

Alexander: Idk if that's sad to admit, but I fully agree.

“Wait, what?” he had extremely puzzled look on his face. “By an elephant?” That sounded so weird and Julius definitely was confused how that was even possible in the first place. Unless this guy had been traveling somewhere with wild elephants and then some sort of accident happening. Or maybe he worked in a circus that had elephants. Though circuses usually traveled around so maybe he wasn’t part of one.

“Oh, yes. I’m the head veterinarian at the Animal Kingdom? So, we were operating on one an the tranquilizer wore off before we were done and...yeah,” he shrugged. It had been easily the scariest experience of his career, but he’d managed to get out mostly unscathed and the animal had turned out to be fine, so it wasn’t too bad. “Terrifying, but it wasn’t like it was his fault. Those things happen sometimes.”

Nathan: No kidding! I'm glad I don't have to worry about that kinda stuff. Idk how the arresting officers do it.

Alexander: Of course! I'll find a time I'm sure. When are you usually free?

Alexander: Same. It all seems just a touch too scary for me. I'll stick to my animals.

Nathan: I think I can! I was thinking about maybe getting an independent cat. You know, one that comes to me when he or she wants attention lol.

Nathan: Yeah, I guess that's true. No one ever thinks of us though. They think of the arresters. Which is so fine by me.

Alexander: If you need any help picking one out or finding one, let me know. I...am okay at reading animals, haha.

Alexander: Probably good to be in the background, maybe. If they get out of jail, it won't be you they come for.

Julius nodded his head in agreement. Not being able to sleep in on your day off definitely wasn’t the nicest thing. And in Julius’ case the only day off he had was the last day of the week and his friends definitely knew that. But clearly forgot it too often. “I definitely have never been squished, but it sounds like something I don’t want to experience. At least not if it’s something heavy and hard. If it’d be a pile of teddy bears or blankets and pillows, then I probably wouldn’t mind.”

“That could be an okay kind of squished,” Alexander agreed, laughing. “Worst I’ve ever had is being partially squished by an elephant. It cracked a rib, which kind of hurt, but it was my fault.” He’d had all kinds of crazy experiences with animals over the years. He loved them, but he knew they were dangerous at times. Even the ones at the zoo were still wild by instinct.

Nathan: None taken! Cute animals really are the best. Sometimes I think about getting a pet for the apartment.

Nathan: Maybe a cat. But nah, my job is neat. Putting criminals away is...pretty badass.

Nathan: Even if I don't do the actual arresting lol.

Alexander: You should do it if you think you could handle it! Adopting is amazing.

Alexander: You do all the work to make the arrest happen, that's the cool part.

“Yeah”, he nodded, “I wake up so early because of my work so Sunday’s are sort of the days when I sleep as long as I feel like sleeping, which is quite long, so I’m not the happiest camper right now that my friend made me get up earlier and then just cancelled the plans.” He huffed a bit, knowing it sounded a bit stupid really, but tired mind did tricks on you for sure. Julius glanced around them and a soft ‘oh’ came from his lips. “Right, right. Wouldn’t want to get squished”, he commented and walked to the side of the road so he wouldn’t be on everyone’s way.

“Oh, that’s very fair. Waking up early is hard in general, but on a day off? The worst,” Alexander agreed. He woke up early most days no matter what the case was, just to be safe if something with work ended up popping up. He didn’t sleep much generally, though. He gave the man a smile, glad that he was safely out of the way of the street. “Hah, yeah, getting squished might be...a rather uncomfortable experience.” Definitely not the kind of way that Alexander would want to go if he had to go early at all.

Alexander: It's a wonderful job, honestly. Busy, hard, always something new to figure out, but worth it.

Nathan: That really is awesome. I like that about my job too. Never really a dull moment.

Nathan: I think you win though. You deal with cute animals :)

Alexander: No offense, but I think I win too. Cute animals are the best.

Alexander: But, your job seems like it would be neat too.

Nathan: Huh, I actually didn't know how much space you guys had. I know ideally they adapt to the environment, but.

Nathan: I didn't know how much overflow space there was, I guess. Sounds like a really interesting job though!

Nathan: Learning on the go is a little...stressful, I bet, but fun.

Alexander: It's actually...really incredible how much space there is. Lots of behind the scenes stuff.

Alexander: It's a wonderful job, honestly. Busy, hard, always something new to figure out, but worth it.

Julius felt so betrayed by his friend because they surely knew Sunday’s usually were his only day offs from work and he wanted to spend those to collect energy for the next work week. Oh well, maybe Toby had just forgotten that or something. But it didn’t mean Julius didn’t feel frustrated and sleepy now. He hadn’t even realised how loud his groan was until he saw a familiar face looking at him. Before he even got to answer to the other a huge yawn took over and Julius covered his mouth with the back of his hand and then just chuckled. “Other than being half asleep and my friend canceling our plans, I’m fine. So mostly I’m just tired. I guess I look like some sort of a zombie or something?”

Zombie was definitely an accurate word, if Alexander were being honest. The man looked exhausted as could be. Having been there many a time himself, Alex got it. “Oh, definitely a little bit tired. Guess you woke up early to hang out with them?” he asked, a sympathetic look in his eyes. That was always a bummer, when people cancelled on you without much of a warning. “But erm...I would recommend that we get out of the street, perhaps? The cars that tear through here really don’t ever slow down.”
