The Liberi are the most stringent about proper grooming of all the races of Terra. It's a racial trait that goes back to their connection to featherbeasts. Any other beast of the land or sea isn't going to be terribly inconvenienced by matted fur or scuffed scales, especially in the short term. A single misaligned feather could compromise a featherbeasts aerodynamics, and thus ability to fly. So preening is a deeply ingrained survival skill even though the Liberi are land bound and it no longer matters.
Just imagine no-nonsense Liberi operators running their fingers through their hair multiple times a day to make sure the feathers are properly aligned. The science owl that fell asleep at her desk at 3am but still the first thing she does before she opens her eyes in the morning is reach up to fix that feather that's been knocked askew.
You know a Liberi loves you when they're willing to reach out and help fix you up when you're a mess. You know one trusts you when they let you return the favor.
This ties in well with pre-cannon Fiammetta. It was popular fannon that as a pheonix Fiammetta could die and be reborn from the ashes and thus was probably older than she looked. While cannon now has it that she's about as old as Mostima and that fannon fizzled out, I'm still kind of hopeful that it's simply that she's never died, thus been reborn yet.
That scenario would play really well with an alter, maybe a substitution specialist, something with self sustain at least. Making Fiammetta's artilleryman, with it's self damage, the aspect of the phoenix that burns itself to ashes, and her alt the aspect that rises from it.
It would give a good reason for Fiammetta surviving till whatever time Endfield is set. Plus re-opening a whole bunch of fun directions her story could go in.
I actually was thinking that Mostima as the guardian of the Lock and Key is technically immortal a la AC: Odyssey where Platon and the protagonist are immortal as long as they have their divine staff
However, if we're being honest, Mostima is the totally the type of person who would ditch immortality
So I can see her handing Lock and Key to Fiammetta because she has no desire to live eternally and also because she considers herself as unfit to her duty on the long run
Fiammetta who's always been the outsider looking in with the Sankta she was raised amongst. Who probably wasn't any better off with the Lateranian Liberi for having opportunities open to her that they'll never have, thanks to the strings pulled by the Sankta gun-knights who raised her. Much like POC raised in a white household not quite fitting in with either world (I'll probably elaborate on this in a separate post). Who's so loyal to the friends she does have because of it?
To have the friend who's fall she wanted to avenge, a vengeance she placed on the back burner to follow her into effective exile to ensure she was ok in her new circumstance. To have that friend just drop immortality on her so she could fuck off and die? That would cut deep.
Fiammetta is loyal and dutiful though. Despite her grumpy disposition she cares deeply for others. Anyone she'd trust to give the Lock and Key to in turn weren't people she'd wish to curse with immortality.

While it is hilarious that Kristen trap doored Saria out of her space ship like some Looney Tunes character. It obscures the point that Kristen, if not just tried to kill Saria, at the very least got her out of the way without regard to whether or not she survived. Kristen didn't drop Saria into an escape pod, she dropped her into open air somewhere between 5037 and 6152 meters above sea level. It's stated explicitly in text that Saria can't survive a fall like that, no matter how much she reinforces her body.
Saria isn't still alive because Kristen wanted to 'save' her and wished for her to watch over the world in the Perro's stead. Saria survived because she got stupidly, 1 in a million lucky. Twice.
First: she was falling close enough to the escape pod to be seen with the naked eye, while the pods spinning brought her into view of Muelsyse and the CCS employee. Mumu was then willing and able to expend all her water to cushion both the escape pod but also extend it, through the incredible air resistance of failing at that speed, to Saria.
Second: Silence was close enough to Saria's impact point to see her in time to set up both her drone and air cushions to further slow her fall. Which is a lot less likely than you think, sure Silence was heading in that direction to help survivors, but debris falling from that height could spread over miles depending on profile and wind speed.
Saria ultimately survived Kristen's carelessness because others cared enough to save her. Others who happened to be in the right place, at the right time with the right equipment and skills to do so.
AU where Franka doesn't get approval for the transfer and instead has to cut and run to Rhodes Island alone. Liskarm just misses finding out and isn't able to follow. and then they reunite some years down the line for whatever reason, Franka happy at Rhodes Island but still a little lonely and Liskarm saying she's fine but being at Blacksteel for so long has made her colder and harsher and just plain miserable.
(it isn't all bad, she at least has Jessica and Vanilla, but they can't get under her skin the way Franka could. Liskarm swears that Franka would get under skin sometimes just to dig out the bad feelings.)
(and Franka has people. she's surrounded by people she cares about. operators cut from the same cloth as her, that will charge headlong into battle beside her. colleagues who will nag her about sleeping and eating and training and mission parameters. friends who will rag on her for her choice of reading material. but Liskarm was all of those things rolled into one. and she is not here)

Headcanon that Ruby has a pair of scars on her chest shaped like the Cat's paw prints from this. Unlike normal scars, the print's are the same colors as the Curious Cat, shifting in the light like metallic paint.
No one's seen them yet because their location means Ruby would have to be wearing a pretty deep neckline for them to show. Needless to say Ruby's in no hurry to do that for a multitude of reasons, not least of which is the worry of someone not in the know about Ever After coming up and asking her about her "cool tattoos".
Okay so this is kind of a role swap but just in gen something I've been interested in, the basic premise of - what if Fiammetta had stayed back instead of Mostima that night? So I'm gonna be using this post for lore as I work on this AU. So if you're interested (or from a fic), check out under the cut!
And a warning as I dive into lore more, things will get updated and changed!
On the fateful night, it ends up being Mostima who answers the distress call, and Fiammetta who fights Andoain over the Lock and Key. Unlike Mostima, who drives Andoain off, Fiammetta ends up having to flee, Lock and Key in hand, against Andoain's assault.
Unable to tell her side of the story, Fiammetta is exiled from Laterano, and wanders the world doing odd work until eventually being recruited by Penguin Logistics. During this, she ends up becoming Infected.
Meanwhile, staying in the core of Laterano, Mostima further integrates into the Church. With Andoain spinning a lie that the Lock and Key drove Fia insane, and Lemuen in a coma, his word is treated as truth. Mostima chooses to join the Legatus, hoping in her work to someday find, and save, Fia.
With Mostima staying in Laterano, Exusia ends up staying, becoming a Legatus like her. Instead, Patia eventually leaves after growing disillusioned with Laterano's system, and by happenchance joins Penguin Logistics.
Oren, through keeping in contact with Patia, also comes back in contact with Fia, keeping her updated on things in Laterano (and a certain blue-haired Sankta)
Once at Rhodes Island, Fiammetta ends up joining the Movie Lovers' group, becoming their Movie Criticiser. They are one of the only groups who know about her past, other than the Doctor, Kal'tsit and Rhodes Island.

Fiammetta wears Mostima's old coat, which she grabbed during her fight with Andoain. It's battered, but she keeps repairing it.
This sounds like a really fun AU that I haven't seen done before. Which is odd since Role Swap AU's aren't uncommon in other fandom's.
It would be really interesting to explore which parts of the characters personality stays the same and what changes. As so much of their characterization was formed from that Kazdel mission and it's consequences.
I know it’s been a running gag for the last 3 volumes or so that Ruby has been failing to notice Blake and Yang’s attraction to each other. What I really want to see when those two reveal themselves as a couple to the rest of the team is Ruby continuing to be nonplussed. Not because she’s surprised by this, but because she’s been operating under the impression that they’ve been together since Beacon.
So every time Weiss has gone “ohhh, the Bumbleby ship is sailing” Ruby is there thinking ‘what’s caught her attention? Nothing happening here other than the couple doing couple things.’
The fact they’ve never been overt about it wouldn’t be points against it in Ruby’s mind. After all I doubt she expects Yang to start making out with her girlfriend in front of her little sister. Bonus points if she’s discussed it with others making the same assumption.
Ruby: So wait you weren’t a couple before now?
Yang: *blushing* No, this is new.
Ruby: Oh... I guess that inter-team dating waiver Professor Goodwitch made me fill out back a Beacon was a little premature then

It was happening again.
This was the sixth time Emiya was going to wake up with his arms slung over no one. She’d always tried to be quiet, but he’d caught her the other day, curiously wondering what had her up so early. At the time, she thought it had been the effects of fatigue but now she was no longer sure.
Arturia clamped her hand over her mouth as their bedroom turned on its side, stumbling across the furniture into their shared bathroom. She didn’t know when she’d fallen to the floor. Her head was dizzy trying to make sense of why her body felt like it was being crushed under a hydraulic press, it was a miracle at all that she’d managed to curl herself over the porcelain throne before everything she’d eaten the day before made an ugly, acidic reappearance.
The woman lurched forward, fingers digging into whatever she could grab as her body began to shudder. Tears stung under her shut eyelids. Sweat dripped from her forehead. But worst of all was the incessant, punishing pounding on her temples that sent her brain banging against the inside of her skull. It would be nearly an hour before Arturia could tend to herself. Hell, it was a miracle she even had the strength to look up from the toilet, for when she wasn’t spilling out her dinner, she was dry heaving like there was no tomorrow.
“You said you skipped on the drinks when you were out,” said a familiar, deep voice.
The woman’s arms quivered as she flushed the toilet and tried to lift herself up, face colored with shame for having been caught at such an embarrassing state. She hadn’t even noticed her lover had been holding her hair back. How long was he there?
“I did,” she coughed, folding over the sink to clear the acid from her mouth. As she reached for her toothbrush, she felt Emiya loop her locks into a neat low ponytail at the back of her head.
Of course, the tanned foreigner looked about as convinced as a grown man being bribed by a piece of candy. “You realize how believable that sounds, Arturia, don’t you?”
Despite his words, he remained leaning on the doorway, patiently waiting for a better explanation as she brushed her teeth. Through the mirror, she could see the much taller man raise a single white eyebrow at her reflection.
Spitting out the minty white foam, she answered him, “I had no drinks last night. It was purely a meeting for our group thesis presentation. Even Gilgamesh would not willingly sabotage that.”
Emiya sincerely doubted his girlfriend’s assumption of good intentions with that red-eyed prick, but Arturia had always been just a little oblivious to the man’s attraction to her, so he let it slide.
“So, what was it? Did you order from that questionable takeout sushi—”
Suddenly, the small woman lurched forward again, knocking the cup of toothbrushes to the floor. Emiya was on her in an instant, rubbing comforting circles onto her back while her body tensed over the sink. But while her eyes filled with tears and she choked on air, there was simply nothing left for her stomach to expel.
At this point, she was full-on shuddering, leaning onto Emiya for support as her involuntary reflexes came to a stop. The man wiped the sweat from her forehead, guiding her gaze up so she met his dull eyes. Arturia had gone pale as a sheet of paper, save for the ashy gray underneath her eyes. That last round clearly sapped all the energy she had and she had a full schedule to get to today, if he wasn’t mistaken.
“I’m taking you to the infirmary—”
“No—No,” she interrupted, her small hand gripping the hem of his tank. “I just...I just need to lie down.”
Emiya took another look at his frequently overworked, perfect GPA-having significant other and immediately decided that she either had an incredibly skewed sense of self or lacked the capacity to estimate her body’s actual condition.
“Like hell you do,” he muttered, scooping her up in his arms. But despite how much he disagreed with her, he found himself tucking her back under their covers as she wished. He trusted her enough to tell him if she needed anything more. Attending class was definitely out of the question though. She could afford to skip. Showing up to lectures hardly mattered in college anyway.
As Emiya made his way to the kitchen, no doubt to prepare an easy-to-swallow breakfast for her, Arturia curled under their covers, tucking her chin into the incredibly oversized t-shirt her lover had been wearing the night before. His scent still clung to the fabric, a very slight sandalwood smell that was just a little bit sweet. Relief washed over her tired figure in an instant, easing her breathing into a steady, slow rhythm. To her, he’d always smelled like home.
Mind clear as the morning sky outside their window, the senior could finally afford to re-evaluate her situation. The reason she hadn’t had any alcohol the night before was because she’d been feeling queasy all week. It was inevitable that she’d feel so under the weather. It couldn’t be salmonella either. Last night, they’d opted for wagyu steak to suit both Gil’s and Ozy’s tastes.
So, what was wrong with her? Arturia prided herself in having a rather healthy lifestyle, especially now that Emiya was around to help her balance her food intake. Her routine included planned workouts, meals, and a reasonable amount of cheat days snuck into a full-unit semester. She still managed to come to bed at a reasonable time. Social gatherings were few and far in-between, and even during them, she never drank til she was wasted. The only two plausible reasons she was feeling this sick was that she’d caught a bug, or that…
Arturia sat up like a military trainee at the crack of dawn, scrambling for her side table while Emiya looked on worriedly from the kitchen. He said nothing as she wordlessly made a second trip to the bathroom. Said nothing as he set their little table. Said nothing as he sat and waited patiently, lamenting that the food was going cold.
But, when the first muffled sob left her lips, Emiya was rushing to her like nothing else mattered. He tapped on the door in a continuous rhythm.
“I told you we should go to the hospital, idiot,” he reprimanded her, his voice softening at the end. “We’re going right now. I’ll hand you clothes and a towel, just open the door.”
No response.
He rapped his knuckle against the wood again, more insistently this time. “Arturia, open the door.”
A quiet minute passed, filled only with sniffles from her side and some foot tapping from his end. Truly, her stubbornness knew no bounds. Even when she was clearly unfit to attend class, it seemed she hadn’t the intention to skip. A few years ago, he would have pestered her till she eventually gave in to his words, but he wasn’t so annoyingly bullheaded anymore that he’d...well…
Alright, maybe he did still retain a little of that obstinate quality. Old habits die hard.
Emiya turned the old doorknob until it reached its breaking point and thudded his fist onto the board as hard as he could, forcing the old thing to give way. He braced himself for Arturia’s retaliation, for she still quite valued her privacy even when they knew each other’s body better than their own, but it never came.
Instead, he found his partner gripping the sink counter, one of her hands stifling the short sobs coming from her lips. There were no tears in her eyes, but they were blown wide, like she’d just woken from a nightmare and was having trouble believing it wasn't real. Hell, she didn't even notice his presence until he put his hand on her shoulder, for she was shaken enough to jump away.
As she spun to face him, he finally noticed the small plastic stick next to the sink. Curious, he snatched it before Arturia could block his way, wondering what had gotten her so preoccupied—
Suddenly, it felt like the world came to an abrupt stop, sending everything on its surface flying into inevitable, chaotic destruction. Arturia shoved past him and back into the bedroom, but Emiya couldn’t even move, somehow rooted in place amidst armageddon at the sight of those two glaringly red lines.
That...couldn’t be right. They used protection, they always did. It had been a deal early on in their relationship to never even engage without it, because neither of them were ready for a kid. Arturia had a business to inherit after graduation, and intense pressure to get through that same graduation with Latin honors. He was a junior working two part time jobs to fund his education and maintain the mansion back in Japan. They’d been careful. What infinitesimal chance was there that…No. It was useless to contemplate the hows and whys.
What really mattered right now was her.
Emiya found his love curled up inside their closet, hiding her tears behind the legs she pulled to her chest. The hangers clicked against each other as he pushed them aside, squeezing himself in the tiny space within the standard-issue dorm closet. It was such a tight fit, both of them crammed into the bottom like sardines in a can. He closed the door anyway, letting their legs tangle in the dark.
He reached blindly for Arturia’s arms and unraveled them, running his hands down her skin until each of his hands held one of hers. Her palms were clammy and cold, quivering from anxiety. To be completely honest, he mirrored her fears. Though no longer teenagers, they were still young. But neither of them were naive. There was no way out of this that wouldn’t change their lives forever, especially hers.
The man kissed her palms and held them tighter as she sobbed.
“I won’t leave you, understand?” he whispered, hoping his words reached through to her troubled mind. “I won’t leave you, you know that.”
Moments passed in silence between the couple, with him drawing calming patterns into the hollows of her palms. Arturia’s breathing hitched every few seconds, but she was beginning to settle, no longer shaking like a leaf.
“I...am at a complete loss for what to do,” she finally mumbled, nearly crushing Emiya’s hands in her grip with every word. But he didn’t mind. She was speaking to him. She was letting him in.
“We can figure that out together,” Emiya told her, pressing his hands to her cheeks. “Everything, together, alright?”
Emiya couldn’t see her eyes when she spoke. All he had was the world between his hands and the feeling of her steady pulse where her neck met her jaw. But somehow...he knew she took his words to heart.
“...Alright.”

I noticed no one is talking about that in universe Thomas Astruc made a ladybug and chat noir movie without consulting them or presumably paying them meaning that he is making money off them knowing that they can't do anything about it because they wouldn't have bank accounts for their hero identities and wouldn't be able to take him to court because they would have to stay in costume the whole time. Basically he's using their fame to make money knowing they can't do anything about it legally.
And then you have the movie in canon took three years to make, I know that’s probably a reference to the creation of the show, but in canon where they have been active for about a year (we presume); it doesn’t help that it seems like they had a different idea originally, then when LB and Chat became popular, did a quick change to the movie to make them stars and get money for it.
So for the character Thomas Astruc, that was karma coming his way for all that.
I’ve avoided this episode like the plague but this was one of my main gripes that struck me just from the discourse. Ladybug should not have had to watch the movie in order to give constructive criticism on it, it’s based on her using her image and name. She and Chat should have had veto power on the entire movie, they should have had to approve the script before any animation was started and any major change run passed them as well.
I’m just imagining how confused a viewer, who just found the show on Netflix, would be watching this episode. Someone who didn’t know Astruc beyond a name in the credits let alone the fandom drama around him. All they know is what is happening in universe. There’s suspension of disbelief and then there’s this fuckery.
I want a fanfic rewrite of Oblivio but not a fix-it fanfic I just want to read a fanfic where the episode was significantly longer and had even more crazy bullshit added in because I’m gonna be honest the ONLY reason I’m not giving Oblivio a perfect score is because it just wasn’t long enough for me. I need like three hours worth of that. This episode was otherwise BRILLIANT.
Fanfic rewrite would include
• Adrien and Marinette escaping the building before they even figure out how to transform
• Marinette trying to call Fu but her phone dies before he can even tell her what to do because,,, lmao why not
• Marinette and Adrien, despite escaping the building, knowing it’s their duty to defeat the akuma so they do their damn best without super suits to beat the shit out of the akuma
• Marinette stealing two motorcycle helmets again, pulling two ponchos out of the trash, and forcing Adrien into the trash poncho despite his reluctance (because even without memories he’s still a high fashion model like,,, that’s literal trash Marinette. I am not wearing trash.)
• Adrien and Marinette entering some “random bakery” and accidentally coming face-to-face with Marinette’s parents
• Marinette and Adrien trying to pretend as if they absolutely do have their memories under Sabine’s sharp motherly eyes and failing SPECTACULARLY.
• Them finding Plagg screaming at a billboard with Adrien’s face on it. “STOP MAKING ME FEEL GUILTY, THIS IS PSYCHOLOGICAL HARASSMENT!!!”
• Oh god,,, Tom and Sabine surprised by how lovey dovey Adrien and Marinette are acting and taking a TON of pictures for the future wedding
• At some point Adrien and Marinette realise that they were never dating but they’re clearly obsessed with each other in some stupid fucking love square and they’re actually FURIOUS that they’re going to have to go back to that stupidity after everything is over because wHAT THE FUCK??? WHAT. THE FUCK.
• Adrien: I literally have a million photos of Ladybug on my phone. I have poems on it serenading you. I have at least 3 pictures as far as I’ve seen of Ladybug’s butt. Marinette: We’re in my room right now and it’s pretty obvious that I have the biggest stalkerish crush on you. Is this your schedule? What the fuck why are you so busy, okay I could understand having a schedule if it’s honestly this hard to find free time with you— Adrien: I HAVE A PURCHASE FOR A LADYBUG BODY PILLOW??? JESUS CHRIST Marinette: Wait is that a picture of my class? ADRIEN ARE WE CLASSMATES? I SIT BEHIND YOU IN CHEMISTRY. Adrien: This is so messed up. We’re in love with each other but we DIDN’T EVEN KNOW IT? Also how the hell did I not previously notice that you and Ladybug are the same person? You literally look exactly the same. I could put a picture of the two of you side by side and I wouldn’t see a difference. This so isn’t fair.
• Adrien, deciding he needs to break this dumbass love square up, but hopefully WITHOUT compromising their identities, writes a big, block lettered note on his phone “GO OUT WITH MARINETTE. DATE HER. ASK HER OUT ALREADY!!! KISS HER!!! STOP DENYING YOU HAVE A CRUSH ON HER LIKE C’MON ALREADY!!! I AM LITERALLY YOU, I KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!!!!” He takes a screenshot and sets it as his lock and home screen. Then he takes a million more screenshots to fill up pages of his camera roll. Just to make a point. (And for another point, he opens up the camera, takes a picture of Marinette while she’s not looking, she’s got the Determined face on and looking out on the balcony towards Oblivio’s big memory ball, thinking up a plan. It’s captioned “How did you not fall in love with her. Are you insane?” And then, on one last note, he writes “btw, she’s a good kisser. Just so you know.”)
• Fu eventually finds them and tells them how to transform, and things go a lot more smoothly from there.
• Adrien and Marinette leave Nino and Alya before they make out because I’m gonna be honest making out in front of two strangers is awkward. So they go back into the building, kiss one last time, THEN they cast the Miraculous cure and everything’s back to normal again.
• Adrien, after having his original memory returned, is SCREAMING at the shit on his phone like wHAT THE HELL HAPPENED???
• Marinette didn’t try anything like Adrien did because she didn’t want to mess around with her original memories and her regular life, because she assumed hey, maybe things are like this for a specific reason? So in any case it ends with her COMPLETELY oblivious as to why Adrien’s acting like a natural disaster whenever he’s within a 50-foot radius of her now.
• Adrien: Hey,,, Marinette,,, uh, just wondering, do you remember anything during Oblivio?? Marinette: Oh, no actually! I guess I got hit? My parents said that I had a really good friend over though! I don’t actually remember who… Adrien: HAHA OKAY THAT’S ALL I WANTED TO KNOW, BYE
So what does everyone think about a love akuma? One that hits people and makes them fall in love with the first person they see. Adrien gets hit and the first person he sees is Marinette.
How should this continue?
Go the angst route where Marinette is hurt that it took a love spell from an akuma to get Adrien to even notice her.
