one-eyed-summersâ:
Scotty spit out the crimson liquid that had pooled in his mouth from every punch he took from Jack, shakily pushing himself back up to his feet. If Jack had cornered him when they had escaped from the Brotherhood, the beating would have worked; would have forced Scotty to succumb just to avoid the pain, but now? Knowing what it was like to be free for the first time in years.
They had stolen everything from them.
His childhood, his life. He could feel the anger building in his body like a white-hot poker as he stood, listening for Jack coming for him. âYou used to hit harder,â Scott replied, the back of his hand wiping his mouth; holding back a wince at the bruise that was forming under the skin.
He listened for the small movement again, dodging in time to feel the air move as Jackâs fist swung just past Scottâs face. âNow youâre just pissing me off, Scotty,â Jack snarled as he lunged for the boy, tackling him down to the ground as Scott tried to avoid; pinning him by the throat. Jack had raised his fist as if to hit Scotty again, but hit faltered â the whispered name of his sister barely reaching Scottâs ears, but it was full of rage. Something that the boy hadnât heard in a long time.
The fist connected with Scottâs face, his nose instantly gushing blood and then again before he could catch a breath. âI used to like the whole trope of brotherly love, but itâs gone too far,â Jack growled, âIâm going to beat you into submission and then Iâm going to make you watch me rip your brother to shreds. Thatâs where the torment is going to begin for youâI tried to be nice.â Each statement emphasized by the impacts of Jackâs fist.
Scott screamed in defiance, opening his eyes finally; letting the concussive force hit Jackâusing the leverage to push against the manâs diamond body. If there was one thing a person could never threaten a Summers boy with, is the death of the other brother. It would drive any of them into a blinding rage that could topple mountains. It was the twinâs own hubris that brought their own demise; thinking they could use the brothers against each other.
He kicked him back, guided by the anger that fueled him to jump on top of the man; dead set on defeating him. âYou canât break through, Scotty,â Jack all but laughed in Scottâs face, causing the boy to place both of his hands on the manâs throatâtrying his hardest to keep him from talking.
The only thing he could hear was his own screaming as he let the fury take over, his optic blasts becoming more frenzied than he could control as he attempted to break through Jackâs diamond skin; fractals of his beams bouncing off of the surface and impacting all around him. He couldnât pay any mind to the noises and explosions around him that came from his beams being bounced around, blocking out the sounds of screams or falling buildingsânot for one second could he take his eyes away.
He didnât care about the destruction, all he cared about was ending the man that laid beneath him. Scottâs hands never left Jackâs neck in the struggle, using all of his strength to keep him pinned as he let loose all of the power he had and more, tapping into the parts of him that he forced to keep hidden as the beams began to chip away at Jackâs diamond skinâshards of diamond falling away, sometimes with enough force to bounce back against Scott, but he kept going.
âScott,â he could hear Jack pleading, and the sound only spurred him on. It was music to his fucking ears. The man that had abused and tortured him for years had the nerve to be pleading for respite.
âBEG,â Scott screamed at the man while he focused on the hole he was chipping away at the manâs chest, âI want you to beg.â
âScott, please, stop,â Jack begged.
âNo,â Scott said with a devilish smile.
It began to rain cement and debris from the building that they were in as it started to crumble from the force of Scottâs powers; the ground beneath their very bodies shaking from the force as Scott pushed past the last barrier he had put up to stop himself from going over the deep end with his powers.
This was needed, he rationalized. They needed to put an end to the twins, once and for all.
The lights reflecting off of Jackâs diamond skin was blinding until it finally zeroed in- breaking through the last layer. Scott saw red once more, realizing that it was no longer his beams reflecting off of Jackâs skin that he was seeing, but the crimson of Jackâs blood â Scotty had never seen him bleed before. Jackâs choking words reaching Scottâs ears too late to realize that he was stealing Jackâs last breath, but he couldnât stop.
He let out an anguished scream as his powers ripped through him, finally free and no longer able to be controlled by simply closing his eyes. What has he done? He stood to his feet, his fingers fisting into his hair as he tried to control his powers, but they were past the point of the limited control he even had.
The blood rushing in his ears couldnât drown out the noise of the building falling around him and the screams from passerbyâsâthe screams of those trapped in the buildings adjacent to his that he had brought down in the struggle. He looked towards the sky to attempt to tamper his powers, the last of the buildingâs foundation crumbling and the floors above him coming down in a deafening thunder.
Only the red beam of his optic blast was seen as it came down, a beacon of the crimes he had just committed in the night sky.
Everything that fell in the blast was vaporized as the debris began to build around him, encasing him like a tomb. The last of the walls collapsed, most of them collided with each other or the concussive blast of his beams, but there was too much debris. Scott could only feel the debris hit him like an overwhelming force, forcing him to the ground hard enough to rewire his brain to be able to close his eyes and shut off the relentless optic blast, but it was too late to move.
He didnât dare open his eyes again, but he could tell he was encapsulated by the building, feeling water from some plumbing pouring over him as he struggled to maintain his breathing. Scotty desperately tried to feel for a way out but the more pieces of the building he pushed to the side, the more that fell to take its place; he no longer knew what was up or downâit was just him in the space he was meant to be.
Alone.
He needed help, both he and Alex needed help. He could only think of Bruce promising to be there for them through anything if they had ever needed him, and it was the first time Scott had thought to use his number, but he felt for the phone that was in his pocket. It was broken but there was still a dial tone as Scott pressed the speed dial that he had for the scientist.
It rang and rang until it reached the manâs voicemail.
Scott let out a sob as the debris continued to crush around him.
âBruceâpick up, please,â Scott gave pained cry, âthey cameâwe need help, we didnât mean to.â
His pleads were met with the beeping of his phone dyingâhe didnât even know if his message made it through. All he could think of was the fact that he was going to die if he didnât try to make it out; he didnât even know if Alex was okay.
He began to push the debris again, his breathing ragged as he attempted to maintain control. Alexâs name fell from Scottâs lips as he pleaded for his brother to appear, finally pushing a hand through to the surface. He could feel the cool air meeting his busted knuckles, using the last bit of his energy to scream his brotherâs name.
How is it a woman who obliterated everything he used to be, who gave birth to the creation of his darkest side, looked peaceful lying where she was in the glow of the moonâs light? Alex often wondered what exactly went wrong in Camilleâs life that turned her into a monstrous shell, whether that was Jackâs doing, or the Brotherhood corrupting personalities from one single touch. He murdered many during his stint, if not dozens more than he possessed fingers, but killing Cammy...it was justified. Right? The Summers brothers could have subdued them easily and allowed SHEILD or the Avengers take them into custody, yet, even Alexander knew the Wintersâ siblings held the capabilities to escape and he would be fucking damned if he and Scott were subjected to that fear. The Avengers couldnât help. The psychiatrist and the scientist himself couldnât help. They were on their own.
An explosive rumbling and the sounds of panicked screams filled the air of the neighborhood, causing Alexander to whip around just in time to witness the building his brother and Jack had been in cave in on itself, taking every window and wall along with it. âScott!â For an agonizing frightened second, he thought his brother was gone forever. All of the years spent protecting the sibling he swore to sacrifice his own life if it ever came down to that scenario would have been a mission failed, a promise disappointing their deceased parents once broken. âOh, god, Scott.â Thatâs it, he let his brother die. There was no way someone would survive a building falling on them, it was impossible. âScotty!â
And then he heard it, oh, he heard it clear as a bell despite the muffles. His name. âScott, Iâm coming!â Alex took off in a quick run towards the destruction, ignoring the undeniable chaos happening around him. People left and right were fleeing the scene for their lives and he was the one foolish enough to be running towards it. And wasnât that the Summers way? Diving into the danger without considering the consequences, especially if it concerned saving the life of a brother? Alex screeched to a halt at the rubbleâs perimeter, his gaze urgently searching for any and all signs to pinpoint Scottâs location. The older man had to wonder how far deep he was buried, fearing it would take him days to reach his brother by the sheer will of digging. It wasnât as soon as the thought crossed his mind that Alexander spotted something protruding from the debris. A hand. âScott.â He breathed.
Alex immediately climbed onto the pile of rocks, stepping over various material previously making up the warehouse that now no longer existed. He was careful to maneuver his way, playing mindful of where he stepped in case the buildingâs remnants further collapsed. âScott, just keep listening to my voice, okay? Iâm right here. Always.â Reaching down and wrapping his fingers around his brotherâs outstretched hand, the moment briefly took him back to the days Scott was a clumsy toddler always needing his brother to pick him up. Alexander pulled as hard as he could, using every ounce of strength he possessed, before slowly unearthing Scott from the mounds of rock and dirt encasing him. He immediately wrapped his arms around the boy, taking note of the bloodied state he was in, but knowing nothing else mattered right now. âIâm proud of you, kid.. Do you hear me?â Alex pulled back, not stopping himself as his fingers ruffled Scottâs hair, mostly as a method of brushing the dirt from his dark locks. âI wasnât going to let him hurt you. Either of them.â
He pulled Scott close in a gentle manner, eyes sweeping the chaotic wreckage the boys left in their wakes. âScott, look at me,â Alex reverted all attention to him, âTheyâre gone. Itâs just us now.â
one-eyed-summersâ:
It was tunnel vision - one goal, and one goal only; to kill Jack. His vision was no longer red because of his glassesâ it was his rage. All of the pent up anger heâs felt throughout the years but was too afraid to let loose, but now that heâs tasted freedom? Freedom for the first time in how many years? He couldnât go back. He would rather be dead in a hole.
The soles of his second hand shoes slapped against the concrete as he emerged into the abandoned building; the sound echoing against the moist shell of the building, the musty smell hanging heavy in the air. Of course, there was no Jack in sight. âWhy do you have to make this so hard, puppet?â Jackâs voice whispered into his mind; a popular trick he used to discombobulate the boy. He could never pinpoint where Jack was before it was too late.
His dark eyes bounced around the dim room waiting, wanting, to see some sort of movement but nothing came. âA part of me thinks that you like to be punished, as much as you say otherwise,â the man continued, âyouâve always liked a⊠firm hand.â Scott bristled at the way the words purred from Jackâs lipsâ as much as Scott would tell himself that it was for the sake of survival, he had become accustomed to Jackâs treatments; never wanting to anger the man but never minding the punishments later on. Scott shook his head, he was conditioned. This was exactly what the man wanted Scott to thinkâ that he was actually happy in his captivity. His hands clenched. âYouâre thinking about it arenât you, all of the times we shared?â Jackâs voice whispered, the boyâs nausea lifting, âyou did like to beg so sweetly.â
âShut up!â Scott yelled, slamming his eyes shut, desperate to hear some sort of movement. Then there it wasâ the smallest of pattering, like a small rock bouncing along the cracked flooring of the decrepit building. Scottâs body turned towards the noise, his fingers ripping off the glasses that held back the optic blasts; freeing a large blast free that hit the corner of the building. Scott placed the glasses back over his eyes as the building creaked and the dust fell. The building was still standing, but suffered a large fracture up the sidesâ it wouldnât take too many hits to bring it crumbling down. âDo you ever get tired of disobeying me?â Jack responded, his voice next to Scotty and not in his head, âI sure do.â
A fist connected to the back of Scottyâs head, bringing him to his knees with a single blowâ his palms burning as the rubble cut through the tender flesh. His glasses flew off his face, scattering to a location unknown as he kept his eyes closed to keep the vertigo from claiming him. âYouâre too weak, Scotty,â Jack said as he stepped next to the boy, âItâs time to go home.â
Alexander considered the time he and his brother were locked away like prisoners within the Brotherhood. On the cusp of an entire decade, the two practically grew up fighting for their survival on a daily basis. Many thoughts by the thousands consumed every inch of his waking hours, whether he could have prevented the capture, whether he could have protected Scotty better or intentionally made himself out to be less interesting to subdue Camilleâs growing obsession. Yet, he continued winning the fights, he earned his nickname, and it was all over from there. Hell...it was over the second the Summers boys stepped through the doors of that compound. Siblings were rare for the organization and to undoubtedly own two brothers fiercely co-dependent on each other had been deemed a weakness easily exposed.Â
âCamille!â His voice boomed, searching gaze darting between the many apartment complexes lining their neighborhood. Cami and her brother were quite similar in their tactics, slip away without detection and ambush once the opportunity arose. He learned quickly from the Brotherhood that you fought your opponent face-to-face and not metaphorically throwing away your shot or the consequences would be devastating, the loss of your own life execution-style by cowardice. âYou donât have your brother protecting you now, Cammy, itâs just you and me.â Alex turned in the direction of the empty warehouse on the end of the street behind him, wondering if thatâs where his brother and Camilleâs ended up just by feeling the vibrations from here, âIsnât that what you wanted? Just us?â His attention shifted as Camille appeared from behind one of the complexes, the injury sustained from the previous blast through a house leaving a grotesque scarlet streak along her features.
âI would have given you everything, Alexander. I gave you everything.â Despite the superficial injuries, Camille garnered enough strength to travel the length of the street with the usual saunter she possessed from the moment they met. âWhy do you constantly have to make me jump through hoops and prove to you I am the one you have always desired, pet? That your home will never be with anyone but me?â He absolutely detested the way she looked at him, like a piece of meat ready to devour or property she owned that she could use and abuse at her will. âAlex, you know that you had it all with us. Think about how fortunate you were, how spoiled.â Camille easily closed their distance, yards away, feet away, inches away until they practically met in the middle. It may have been true Alexander was offered certain luxuries the others did not obtain, thatâs what happens when two of the highest among the Brotherhoodâs ranks shared mutual interest, âYou never realized we were meant to be together forever. My Alexander.â
Alex stood stoic, resilient, fuming at the seams watching the woman who destroyed his life enter his orbit with such casual carelessness. âNo more games.â He growled as she reached out a hand, placing her palm along the left side of his chest and smirking as she felt the racing hum, âShow me the rage if you must, darling, but you know that your heart belongs to me.â Their gazes locked for an impregnated pause and Camille almost believed she had him hook line and sinker, âIâve watched you slaughter only for you to come crawling between my sheets at the end of the night. Donât forget I made you, Alexander. It doesnât matter where you are, baby,â Alex wrapped his fingers around Cammyâs wrist and shoved away her arm as she continued, âYouâre my monster.â
Alex hadnât protested to the notion, he might have been a monster in many ways, and Camille knew this as she began slowly walking backwards, her voice adopting a melodic seductive tone that implemented the use of her ability, âAlexander, listen carefully, you are going to leave this humdrum hopeless fantasy of freedom behind. You will come with me, travel back to the Brotherhood, and we are picking up where we left off. My chamber of toys, fighting and fucking, and you are going to do so without the reward of your brother.â She could see how desperate he was resisting, his fists clenched at his sides and it was clear his mind fought a battle to keep his feet right where they were at, âYou will erase any trace of emotion you have for Scott, youâll feel nothing for him, and youâre going to thank me for that mercy. Do you know why, Alexander?â A pause, âYouâre going to rip him apart. Decimate him until he no longer exists.â Jackâs fascination with the boy didnât matter. She needed the twit gone.Â
The man focused his eyes elsewhere, imagining a wall as he always did when Camille displayed the persuasion as a method to resist every command. It was rare she used it on him when he fell powerless to her sexual appetite, but the ringing in Alexanderâs ears reached a deafening pitch the minute Scottâs name dared touch her tongue. She dare demand he kill Scotty? His brother, his little brother, the sole reason he murdered dozens of his own kind, became the slave to a Wintersâ every whim just to have two minutes alone with him, the one purpose for every protective measure. He committed many acts for Camille, because of Camille, but this? It was pouring gasoline on the simmering fire within his veins, lightning crashing, a moment of pure clarity. âNo.â Alexander swiveled, sending the built up blast of energy hurdling towards the Winters woman, slamming her in the abdomen and sending her flying halfway down the street. He watched Camille land with a harsh thud along the concrete, although it would take more than that to kill her, before he stalked over in her direction.Â
âYou want me to be the monster, donât you?â Alex nearly screamed, watching as Camille made any attempt to rise to her feet before opting to crawl along the pavement, which only did to piss him off. Alexanderâs wrath was uncontrollable, his temper fierce, and that was clearly evident by his lack of direction. âYou did this!â Another long blast protruding from his torso, the beam slicing through several floors of the few apartment buildings lining the street. Shattered glass reached his ears, but the consequences of unleashing fury did not cross his thoughts. âYou needed me to let go. Stop resisting. Get fucking angry, well, congratulations, you got it.â Finally reaching the womanâs crawling form, Alex grabbed the collar of Camilleâs jacket and flipped her over, sending a loud groan from her lips followed by a purring chuckle, âThis is dark for you, Alexander. Iâd even find it hot.â He slammed her into the ground for a second time and growled harshly, âShut up.â Camille chuckled again, âYou and I both know you canât kill me, Alex. You donât have the balls for it.â
âDonât I?â A calming expression suddenly masked his features, the wrath still remained, but the darkness he pretended never existed emerged fully formed. This is what he had to be for himself, for Scott. âNo, Camille, Iâm going to erase any trace I have of you. Iâm going to rip you apart.â He quoted the womanâs own threats back to her with amusement dripping from his mouth, âBut hereâs the thing, Cami my love,â Alexander balled his fingers into a tight fist and placed it to Camiâs abdomen, âIâm not going to feel nothing decimating your existence. Iâll feel pure, unadulterated ecstasy.â The elder Summers man focused every drop of cosmic energy absorbed within him to his fist, sending a brilliant continuous blast through Camilleâs body. She screamed, oh she screamed, but Alex did not stop until he knew she was absolutely dead.
Once the energy subsided and the wrath slowed to a simmer, he finally noticed the gruesome gaping hole burned into her flesh, finding his fist drenched in sticky liquid he realized too late was blood. Slowly rising to a standing position, Alexander glanced at the mangled remains of Camille. Fuck...Andi wouldnât like this. This is what he wanted, right, itâs what he had to do. It was done, but it wasnât over. Jack. Scott.Â
one-eyed-summersâ:
To say that Scott had never been hit before would be a lieâ but he wasnât used to the punches as Alex would have been. He wasnât the fighter, he didnât make others bleed; the only time he bled, himself, was when he disobeyed and was punished. As long as he did what he was told, Scott was never hurt. He learned quickly on how to avoid getting in trouble when he first was taken in by the Brotherhood. Scott heard his brother scream his name over the bustle of those running around him; blocking Scottâs view of Alex. His fingers held onto the temple of his glasses, dark eyes scanning over the faces that passed by trying to find Jack as he pushed himself to his feetâ moving his sore arm, checking the mobility. With adrenaline pumping wildly, he was glad it was nothing more than a light ache to start.
âAlex!â Scott called out when the bright blue light flashed, moving towards the directionâ the loud crash making his heart pound. The streets were finally clearing and he saw Alex standing there and Jack materializing behind himâ he had two choices and it was the easiest choice: use his ability to prevent his brother from getting hurt. Scott shot a scarlet beam aimed perfectly at Jack when the Winters sibling noticedâ disappearing out of sight at the last moment; the beam hitting parked cars on the side of the street down from them, exploding into fiery debris with the vehicle frames flippingâ the concussion causing the vehicles alarms of those not damaged to sound.
His dark eyes watched the damage heâd caused, his fists clenching at his side as he swallowed thickly. Scott knew he could do so much worse and he never wanted this. His gaze flicked on the surroundings around themâ seeing Jack across the street waving like nothing was wrong, beckoning him; most of the time Scott would have known that it was a trick to lure him farther away from Alex, but the thought of Jack actually raising a hand against Alex in attempt to strike him down made Scottâs blood boil past the point of rationality. He ran across the street towards the building that the Winters brother blinked into.
The combination between the blaring car alarms and the blood rush pounding his skull like a roaring jackhammer masked the shouted name over the chaos, distracting Alex from the imminent danger that unknowingly disappeared behind him and reappeared in a different location. He couldnât drag his attention from the gaping hole Camilleâs body created on one side of the house she crashed through even while a massive explosion sounded just off behind him. It had been a split second too late did the anger clear his blinding vision and Scott cross his mind again, but by the time he turned to check on the younger man, neither he nor Jack were anywhere to be found.Â
âScott?â Alexander shot off like a dart toward the sidewalk, the smell of scorched oil singing his nostrils. Shit. What kind of brother was he for not watching out for his little brother when he needed him the most? How fucking easy was it for Jack to slip Scott from his fingertips without maximum effort? This is what happened when temper overtook rational logic. âScott! Scotty!â Camille pushed open the door of the house, a massive gash on her forehead and many cuts lining her arms, before stepping along the path leading to the sidewalk. âScotty boyâs not coming, Alexander. You couldnât leave well enough alone.â She stalked towards him, âYou couldnât just learn your lesson and actually see that youâre mine. You always will be.â Alex slowly turned around at the first sound of that wretched voice. God, it grated his nerves. âNo, Cammy, youâre the one that taught me...you canât always get what you want.â
Alex pivoted his body in rounding swivels, producing circled of blue light and shooting the beams in Camilleâs direction, watching as she barrel rolled out of the way only for the force to obliterate the house behind her. âSuch a disappointment, Alexander!â Camille took off running in one direction, but he wasnât about to let her escape from his clutches that quickly. Alex could feel the energy building up in his torso, a usual scratch he hadnât been required to itch for quite sometime, yet that didnât stop him from releasing them in the same straight path the woman ran. The burns scorched a hole in his t-shirt, leaving the edges frayed and smoking. The rays cut through anything they came across, cars, houses, slicing trees right in half. âYou were the one who did this to me, Camille! YOU!â
one-eyed-summersâ:
Nothing ever went according to plan, did it? Their meager plan to try and prepare themselves for the battle of their freedom was dashed at that dreaded voice sounding behind them. A red hot spike of anger coursed down Scottâs spine at the soundâ Scott wasnât one to quickly anger; he only reacted that way to a handful of people, and the person who hurt his brother and kept the two of them apart was one of them. Camille raised that sort of energy in him, while he knew itâd dim in Jackâs focus. While Camille coerced Alexâs anger, his temper, Jack worked on Scottâs demurenessâ breaking him into the quiet person he was.
âItâs a shame, reallyâ she was doing so well,â Jackâs voice sounded from next to his twin, tsking at the thought of Laura breaking the rulesâ rules that they tried so hard to instill in the girl until she would listed to no one else; he hated having to retrain his toys, he thought as his eyes landed on Scottâ and it was a thought Scott could see as clear as day and it made his anger turn into fear. He knew what the retraining processes were; he knew the dark rooms he was placed into for days on end until he could no longer make heads or tails of his own thoughts. Playing on his insanity until Jack proved himself to be the savior. Jackâs eyes lifted to Alex, taking in the blue hues that was taking over his formâ the tail-tale sign of the boyâs ability. âCamille, your toy isnât behaving,â Jack chided his sister before looking at Scott one more timeâ timid, pitiful, Scott. âDonât let your brother speak for you, Scottyâ you can come with me where youâre safe. You had everything.â He held out his hand as a simple gesture of forgiveness, for Scott to take for everything to start over again. âPlaytime with your brother is over, itâs time to go home.â
Years of trauma played behind Scottâs eyesâ he knew what would happen if they lost. A part of him screamed to cut their losses and go back with the Wintersâ, rationalizing that maybe their punishment wonât as severe if the brothers went with them willingly. Maybe Scotty wouldnât be hurt as badly. His heart thundered in his chest as his foot slid forwardâ an unconscious step forward. Jackâs lips curled into a smileâ a sinister gloat that he wore in Scottâs presence after one of his mind games workedâ and Scott shook his head; lip trembling as he gathered his courage. âNo,â he said shaking his head, straightening his spine in an attempt to stand straighter, looking to his brother before looking back at the twins, âWe said no.â Jackâs face fell into angerâ defiance was his biggest pet peeve. âWeâre going to have to remind them that they donât have a choice, Camille,â the Winters brother said to his sister just briefly before disappearing from the spot in front of the brothers. Scott felt him before Jack reappearedâ like a sixth sense. âAlex, watch out,â Scott called out as Jack appeared again, attempting to snare the brothers; now completely encased in his signature move: pure diamond.
In a knee-jerk reaction fueled by pure fear of being captured, Scott ripped the glasses offâ the brilliant red light propelling from his eyes in a concussive blast; momentarily forgetting himself and where they all were as the screams of those heâd caught off-guard sounding around him. It was pure madness as civilians ran around them. The blast was not one to kill; at least not while Jack was in his diamond formâ it only managed to push him back a few yards. âYou should have just come willingly, Scotty,â Jack hissedâ his voice dropping dangerously low, âI wouldnât have had to hurt you.â Jack rushed the two of them, a diamond fist rearing back and thrusting into Scottâs arm as he attempted to dodgeâ the sheer force of the impact knocking Scott well past Camille; the ground painful as he slid.
âSpoiled, arrogant children donât ever listen.â Camille assumed a girl genetically engineered for the organizationâs purposes would not leave room for disobedience or backtalk, but X-23 became the disappointment she strongly garnered the highest of hopes for only to find them sorely dashed as the smallest betrayal. Alex may have appreciated the help, but Cami of course loathed it. âDonât worry, I love him angry.â That brilliant blue light shone brighter than she ever dreamed, remembered, from their time together. Watching him battle opponents and wrapped up in her sheets, he was a man of fury whose flame to stoked on a daily basis. Camille was the physical being while she considered her brother the psychological kind, both of which was evident in how they treated their pets.Â
âI donât speak for him, he makes his own choices. And heâll never go with you.â Alexâs gaze bounced between Jack and his brother, watching the struggling forces tearing Scott in two different directions. He felt the same pull when it came to Camille. That maybe there was a way they could experience relieving freedom knowing they didnât have to run anymore. For a brief moment, he actually believed Scott would give up and go to Jack willingly, but his little brother stood up in the face of terror. Itâs a moment he couldnât be more prouder of. âSee? I told you.â Camille rolled her eyes at both the interaction and the response. If she werenât an impatient woman already, she grew so tired playing these games. She wanted Alex and she wanted him now. âAnd to think we were going to make it easy for you two out of the kindness of our hearts.â It was the last comment she threw in his brotherâs direction before he disappeared with the dramatic flourish she only knew he had.
âScott!â Alex whipped around, the chaos and screaming happening around the four falling on deaf ears as his immediate focus zoned in on Scott and his attacker. âYou lay one more hand on my brother, you motherfucker,â Alexander made a beeline for the man only to be yanked at his collar by Camille and jerked around to face her, who took on the role as the distraction between what her dear twin brother preferred to do to his toy. âAlexander,â Her voice adopted a lulling tone, evidence she was using her abilities. No matter how much he didnât want to listen, she managed to hook him in. âForget about Scott. Forget about Jack. Youâre going to lay down your weapons and come home with me where we can play. Just us, Just like old times. You will let me do what I want to you. And you will listen to me.â Alexander stood there for a long moment with a blank stare on his expression and reached out a hand to to stroke the womanâs cheek. His eyes suddenly changed and it was a split second Alex strongly gripped her chin before sending a ball of blue energy flying straight into her stomach, knocking Camille through the side of a nearby house.
one-eyed-summersâ:
Was there a part of Scott that was scared? Yes. He may have known Jack like the back of his hand as much as the other way around, but this would be the first time meeting the Wintersâ after running away. The newfound strength he has now could crumble away like nothing while in the very presence of Jack Winters. The small squeeze from his older brother was reassurance enoughâ Alex wouldnât let them take Scott; wouldnât let Scott cave and cower in fear. Together they could fight them, and he had to remember. The very feelings that he was feeling, it was high probability that Alex felt the same wayâ that the exact same fears coursed through Alex. âTogether,â Scotty nodded. He surveyed the crowds around him, trying to spot the twins before they saw them, looking back over at his brother as Alex tossed the coat on the ground. The only thing sentimental or precious Scott had on him was the glassesâ and those couldnât be taken off until the fight began; there were too many lives at stake if he took them off now.
âWe canât involve any of the people on the streets,â Scott muttered, the crowds around them still moving like normally, not one person sensing the upcoming battle. Not one persons rose a brow at the brothers standing there with grim looks on their facesâ how blissfully unaware the normal populace was. âOur apartment is too small to fight in,â he mused, his mind working through various scenarios in the waning moments they had to themselves, âthe safest area to be at the moment would most likely be the abandoned building next to ours. We should be able to control the destruction then if the Wintersâ allow us.â
It was the easier path the Summers brothers could have taken, running away to the ends of this forsaken earth and building a new life in a new location. Yet, Alexander knew in order to have the brand new life both boys craved so hungrily, they needed to destroy the old one. It wasnât just about the Brotherhood anymore, it was the insurmountable terror that were Jack and Camille. They would never in a millions years stop hunting down he and Scott and it did indeed occur to him...this only ended one of two ways. Either the Summers perished or they did. Alex had always been the person holding onto the belief hiding with normalcy that hadnât quite worked out would be enough to grant the two happiness, but he wasnât about to make that mistake again. âTogether.â Alexander repeated the word as a signature mantra, his gaze creating the same path Scottâs did before nodding. If the Winters were going to bring the fight to them, they would just have to deal with battling on unfamiliar turf where no one else would be subjected to the crossfire. âI doubt theyâre allowing us to do shit, Scotty, but that buildingâs our only safety hold right now. Come on.â Alex reached out to grab Scottâs shoulder with the intention to move toward the abandoned building when...
âHello, boys.â Camille Winters, dressed from head to toe in her signature black, stepped from their hiding place with Jack close at her stiletto heels. âGoing somewhere?â Alex slowly turned around to come full face to face with the woman who violated him in every way a mutant bitch like her could. He once again felt the urge to stand in front of his little brother to shield him from Jackâs peripheral, but if the boys really were going to fight, they would be doing it standing side-by-side. A fact Camille was able to clearly see on her favorite petâs perfectly sculptured body language. âIt is such a shame, is it not, Jackie?â She shot the comment in her twinâs direction, âLittle Laura just could not keep her trap shut. Remind me to break her later. Now, straight to business, we donât have to fight, weâre here to take you home. Letâs just talk.â
Alex shot a stare in Scottâs direction as if pretending to consider this and returned the gaze to Camille, âAs tempting as that offer is, Cammy,â He balled his hands into tight fists and procured every drop of rage boiling inside of him. Concentrating deeply, remembering the death of his parents, the blood staining his hands, and the torture inflicted on him by the woman standing before them. He remembered how good each fight felt both within the Brotherhood and the bar until the end result finally emerged. Every inch of his skin shone a deep blue matching the light of his beams, gearing for the battle of their lives. âWeâre going with no.â
one-eyed-summersâ:
Ever since their last conversationâ knowing that the Winters siblings were coming for them, Scott and Alex barely left each otherâs sides; always glued to the otherâs side, scared that the one moment they werenât together, the other would be taken from them. It was a scare tacticâ the Winters knew what they were doing; theyâve had control of the brothers for years. They knew the Summersâ quirks, their fearsâ how to control their every actions even from afar. Together, the Summers were easier to find, they were shifty and unable to hide in plain sight. The point was proven when Laura walked up to themâ telling them their worst fears.Â
Jack and Camille were coming for them.
Scott knew Jack was closeâ like he was a shadow just beyond the scope of his vision. Close enough to speak to him; it couldâve been Scottyâs own paranoia, but he knew what he heardâ the whispers that reminded him that he could never run away for long. Bringing him to the brink of insanity so easily with the shapes of people down the street that he couldâve sworn was the twins that turned into someone else; the sounds in the apartment at night turning out to be nothing more than his imagination. The feeling of hands on him when his eyes were closed like ghosts of his memories coming back to haunt him. Heâs lost sleep, hadnât eatenâ he was wasting away with every day that he âlivedâ. Hearing that the twins were coming for him, Scott knew he shouldâve felt ashamed of the relief that washed over him, but he didnât. It could finally be over.
Scott watched Laura disappear just as quietly as she appeared, nodding his thanks. He knew she didnât have to do anything, and a part of him was hoping that maybe he had talked some sense into her instead of this all being a ploy. Hearing his brother call his name, Scott looked up at Alex through his red tinted glasses, the rose color doing nothing to hide the roiling emotions behind his brothers eyes as Alex commanded that they leave. Scottâs hand reached out to grip his brotherâs armâ he didnât care that they were in the middle of the street; parting the waters of the crowd as they had their conversation. Time was ticking down. âYou said yourself, theyâd always find usâ it doesnât matter how far we go,â Scott said to his brother, a rueful smile pulling at his lips, âwe canât run anymore. Iâm tired of always watching my back; we can always be on the run, but whatâs the difference between running and being captive when we arenât really living?â He gave a short nod. âWe have a few minutes, at least we can prepare ourselves to fight instead of being blindsided.â
Alexander had no reason to trust the girl the Brotherhood used for their sick purposes and he was more than determined to believe maybe her warning is the worldâs largest lie, but that would be considered a foolâs dream had he not known Jack and Camille Winters. They were the monsters hiding underneath their beds, the nightmares haunting their mainly sleepless nights. The twins were the very reason why that vile organization became the hellhole that it has turned into. There were days, a dark secret he would never admit to Scott, where Alex would have one absolutely anything at Camilleâs mercy and enjoyed doing it. He fought other mutants for her, he killed for her. He did do it to see Scott again as it has always been his main reason for everything, but a part of the man knew she had him wrapped around her finger.
Alexâs mind raced with what they would need to take with them. What little belongings the brothers had, stuffing it into two small bags, and jumping the first bus money could buy. His little brotherâs grip stopped his distracted thoughts cold. âScott.â He did say that, didnât he? Running away no matter what part of the planet they landed in wouldnât make the biggest difference when they would always have the twins sniffing their trail. If they wanted real freedom, freedom that didnât include cowering in fear, the only choice set in front of them was to stand and fight. âOkay. Itâs time we end this once and for all. No more hiding, no more mistakes. No more fear.â Alex placed a hand to the younger manâs shoulder and gave it a small squeeze. âIf weâre really doing this, weâre doing it together.â Alex slipped the leather jacket he was wearing from his shoulders and tossed it to the ground. If he was using his abilities, heâd rather not ruin his favorite coat. âItâs always going to be you and me, Scotty.â
Laura distanced herself for a short while, surveying the brothers, taking note of where they each went and who they interacted with. More than one occasion she saw Alexander with the SHIELD therapist and Scott with, of all people, the dark-haired scientist known as the Hulk. Possessing deep personal connections werenât the boysâ strong suit, so when someone especially that of an Avenger, gained their trust, it caught Camilleâs and Jackâs full attention. And they were gunning for the Summersâ this very moment.
Now Laura always followed orders. She attacked on command, hated the same enemies as her handlers, and killed who she was told to. Every emotion was calculated and every action wasnât of her own volition because the alternative would be a fate worse than death. Buried underneath the callousness, however, lay a beating conscience screaming to be heard. She stood back and watched what the Winters siblings have done to the brothers for years. She remembered her conversation with Scott, remembered the way she didnât want to be considered a coward. One small good deed would be all it took to do something right even if doing something right went against everything that she became. The weapon, the machine, the monster.Â
Laura kept her head down in order to blend into the crowd as she rounded the block on the same street Alex and Scottâs dingy apartment building stood. The neighborhood wasnât exactly in a rough area, but it wasnât in a glamorous suburb either. While that was a detail she couldnât focus on throwing her gaze in all directions to ensure she wasnât followed, Laura seemed fairly surprised when she spotted the boys themselves exiting the building together as she reached the path. Good, no need to awkwardly knock. âWe need to talk.â The statement caught Alexanderâs attention quickly and it seemed rather unsurprising for Laura how instantaneous it was that he moved to stand in front of Scott. âYou. Youâve got no business being here.â The man briefly left his brotherâs side, staring down Laura before she rolled her eyes. âLook, I donât have time for this. I know neither of you have a reason to trust me,â Her gaze shifted to Scott, âbut they found you.âÂ
Alexâs expression shifted from confusion and realization to anger. He didnât need to ask who the girl meant. He wasnât even going to ask why she was here giving them a warning. It couldnât matter right now, all that mattered was he and Scott had a short head start. âHow much time do we have?â She shook her head, âTheyâve got to be close behind. You know how fast Jack is. Five, ten minutes tops. Go, now, while you still can.â Laura began walking backwards, knowing she couldnât stick around, âLook, Iâm sorry for all of this, but this is all I can do for you. Iâm just hoping itâs enough.â The quicker Laura appeared, she managed to slip away as she constantly did just as easily.
âScott,â The sound of his own voice reverted through the silence of his thoughts, âScotty,â Alexander whipped around to face his brother, âWe have to leave. Now.â

âRight,â Bo said with a huff, his posture relaxed though he could feel the fire in his veins; ready to tap into at a moments notice. He wasnât going to give the dude a reason to attack him, but Bo was never one to be unprepared; not anymore. âI bet you have, youâre quick to draw,â he pointed out with a shrug; brushing off the shove after having taken the step back, not budging any further. âThatâs real smartâ when someone is standing in front of you saying that they donât judge you, especially after going all âfists of furyâ on someone and potentially going off like a firework, you usually shouldnât bark back. Especially when you canât even stand straight on your own two feet.â
âI donât got a choice in it.â Alex reached over in order to shove the young man again, but the shove this time sent him slightly stumbling backwards as he lost his balance causing him to knock down a few glasses lining the bar counter. If the glowing red aura wasnât the dead give away, a disadvantage Alexander spent weeks hiding during his odd jobs and even longer to perfect, he could pawn himself as merely drunk. âWell, Iâm fucked up without a clear head and a quick temper. What do you want me to say?â It took about another minute until he was able to balance properly without a chairâs assistance. That didnât subside the wobble. âYou think you can relate to me, is that it? You know nothing.â
robertxdrakeâ:
Two of the most powerful mutants Iâve ever met laying waste to my entire team and still escaping.
And you know they wouldnât have gotten away if you had any say over it. Do you need a hand or is this some kind of family matter?
xlorna-danexâ:
It was never hard to pick out the mutants in the crowds of normiesâ and if Laura was following her around, it wasnât hard to for Lorna to do the same thing; bringing her right to the doorstep of the Summers brothers. âDoes he deserve this beating?â she asked as she stepped out of the shadows, her arms crossing over her leather clad chest, âif he does, I wonât stand in your way.â
The guy sent a punch flying to the mutantâs jaw as he grew distracted for a moment, causing Alexâs anger to boil over before he squeezed the otherâs fingers and heard the satisfying snap before he pushed him away roughly. âI told you I would break it. Fucker.â Alexander touched an index finger to his lower lip and caught the girlâs eyes. âYeah, as a matter of fact, though I donât see how this concerns you.â
robertxdrakeâ:
Not you, tooâ look. Itâs not me Iâm not fine aboutâ taking punches, dealing with stupid ass magic; thatâs not new.
You live for yourself just surviving long enough and forget you have team members to worry over. So, what is it?

Betsy tended to not use her telepathic abilities, she preferred to use her telekinetic energy. It wa always a sore spot when people learned what she could do, that she was able to read minds â some have even tried to kill her cause of it. It hurt that Alex asked this of her in anger, sheâd rather not have to search for answers from the people she cared about. Bets forced him backwards with telekinesis, âFuck you Alexander.â
The invisible force sent Alexander skidding a foot or so backwards against the bar counter, a sharp pain immediately radiating from his back causing a small groan to flee his lips. They were making quite the commotion, but he didnât stop to think about that as he stepped forward and invaded Betsyâs personal space a second time, âNo, I want you to pick my brain. Go ahead.â His expression creased with desperation, âTell me whatâs wrong with me.â
robertxdrakeâ:
If I stay confined to this damn room any longer Iâm going to fucking lose it. How many times to I have to tell someone Iâm fine.
I guess I canât accuse you of stealing my look. Whatever the hell happened, Drake, youâre not.
xbo-chenxâ:
âBetter than living in a world of fantasy, man.â Bo watched the man practically keep himself up by the ledge of the bar, a scoffed laugh falling from his lips. âAnd it looks like we have a tough guy who thinks he can beat down anyone that has an opinion,â he interjectedâ he wasnât afraid to throw shit when it was thrown at him; especially since he could take anything that came his wayâ with or without his super-strength. âYou ainât the only mutant on the face of the planet that struggles, manâ thatâs shallow thinking, and struggling you are.â
âThat worldâs been ripped away a long time ago.â Alex could feel his hands clench around the counterâs sloped edge, fingers undeniably itching to punch this bastard square in the nose. The satisfaction hearing it break, the sound permanently scarred in his memory from his fighting days, called to him to do just that. Fight. Snap. Kill. âIâve dislocated jaws for less, asshole.â Pushing himself from his position and standing on wobbly legs, Alexander reached out a hand and shoved the guy, âYou know what, fuck you. You donât know jack shit about me or my life and you definitely have no idea why I am the way I am.â
