CHARACTER - BACKGROUND

What is the one place your muse feels most at home, and what does this place mean to them?

"that's a hard one. i was born and raised in new york. it has always been like home for me but i knew what life was life and how people are there and that's not what i wanted for my son. new york will always be home for me, but i think it's something that is split up into two parts because blackstone ridge is home to me now because i've created a whole different life here and made friends with other people and with colleagues. again, i miss home and my family but i wanted something different and blackstone ridge has lived up to it's reputation."

What is your muse’s relationship with their family like?

"my relationship with my family has always been good. we are very close with one another. my sister asked me to take care of her son and make him my own so that she could have a little bit of childhood that she had left and an opportunity to have a life. i would say i was mad at my parents for homeschooling her and hiding her pregnancy away from other's, but i think at the end of the day it was the right thing to do because they wanted her to have a life too without judgement. it wasn't the plan i had for my life to change from surgical to pediatrician, but it was the right thing to do and my family has seemed to be supportive of it."

"i have made so many friends since coming to blackstone ridge that i have created a support system and they have been great and they are a big part of what keeps me here. i love the school system as well and the environment in general. this is the type of place where you can live in texas and it doesn't always seem that way. people are great."

CHARACTER - BIOGRAPHY

alexander was used to getting everything he wanted. that was the perk of being raised in a rich family. he was handed things, but don't get him wrong he also worked his ass off his whole life and earned a lot as well. alexander was big into sports so he was playing either basketball or baseball. his parents thought that he was going to go to college for one or the other, but alexander actually decided to play baseball in college.

school was very important to him, but at first alexander thought he wanted to be a surgeon so he went to school for pre med. but not long after his youngest sister became pregnant at the age of fifteen. he was able to help his parents out because they hid her from the world due to not wanting to be embarrassed. when the baby was born, she begged alexander to take the child.

he had spent a lot of time with his siblings and babysitting them when their parents would constantly be away so she knew that alexander was going to make a good dad. even though being a surgeon was something that he wanted to be, being a dad was way more important to him so he changed things around and he ended up becoming a pediatrician.

he ended up adopting the baby as his own and has raised the child. remembering what his life was like growing up because of being rich and them being known in new york city so well, he wanted to get his son out of that life before he started school so they moved to blackstone ridge where they have been really happy for the last seven years.

"Isn't that called breaking and entering?" Jaylen teased with a little laugh. Although he supposed if the guy was a teacher, he was allowed to use the facilities like that. Jaylen had a childhood surrounded by other people, but still somehow lonely. He hoped Alex's kid enjoyed getting involved in other clubs and hobbies rather than just hanging out with his dad. "It depends what I'm doing or who I'm volunteering with, how much time I have. I help with survival and outdoor classes, swim classes, sometimes sports stuff, but I'm not a huge organized team sports guy. You should definitely look into what's on offer, figure out what might be fun for you both. It can be for adults too, y'know?" Jaylen had done plenty of outdoor team building exercises for corporate teams, groups of teachers, anyone whose HR thought they might benefit from it or who had been convinced to do it for fun.

"You're a New Yorker?" Jaylen asked with a laugh. "Shoot, so that's where the accent is from. They have boy scouts in cities, but it's not the same. Having the countryside right on your doorstep? It just hits different." Jaylen couldn't imagine who he would have become if he'd been raised in a city. "Manhattan, though? I mean, I've been. But I kinda feel like I get lost there. I can find my way through a forest with just a compass, but that concrete jungle might as well be a maze. What made you come to Blackstone? Weird place to just end up."

"now that you mention it, i'm not too sure. i figured since it's a public school it's open to the public. i see parents taking the kids to the playground at the elementary schools so i think i'm safe as long as i'm not destroying the place, but now i'm going to be on the lookout for cops and if i get in trouble, i know who ratted me out." alexander mused for a moment as his gaze shifted down to sebastian. "this is true and i wonder if there's any classes that i can sign him up for and then go off of on my own and enjoy the gym or spa services they probably offer." alex thought to himself for a moment after saying that and he was going to make sure to actually do that.

"i certainly am, don't hold it against me, i'm not your typical new yorker. i know some of us are insufferable, especially those raised on the upper east side which i was." he explained. "a lot of people feel that way too when they aren't from new york city. a lot of know where everything is exactly, like you mention a certain bush that looks like something we can tell you the coffee shop you're trying to remember the name of. it is a weird place to come to from the city. i wanted to raise sebastian outside of the city because i know how stuck up some of those kids can be, myself included. i didn't want him being around that and becoming one of those types of adults as well. plus they can just be cruel."

“Why thank you! Feels like I’ve been singing along to my favorite songs since before I could do much else. Beyonce’s been with me the whole time, practically.” She grinned, watching him as he made it to the oldies. She loved it when someone was deliberate in their choices. “I could find just about anything to love in most music. Most genres, anyhow. My taste runs the gamut of basic to eclectic, and everything in between. I mean, I love my pop girls, I listen to a lot of jazz, and definitely grew up with classic rock. Found my way around hip hop and rap as I got older. Some indie sleeze, for sure. And since I made the move down South, I’ve found my way around some country, too. What about you?”

"beyonce is not one of my go to's, but i know what you mean. i sing horribly, but that doesn't ever really stop me from enjoying doing it. i was more of a backstreet boys kind of guy but now i listen to a lot of different things." alexander was listening to her explaining what her different musical interests were and he smiled when he heard jazz, "i love to just sit around with a glass of wine and listen to some jazz music. it's like heaven to my ears and it's not appreciated enough by people. they think you have to be old to enjoy jazz." he mentioned. "i find myself listening to jazz, a little bit of country, and i also just enjoy like the oldies like kenney chesney, elvis, but a group that i really enjoy that i can't get enough of is fleetwood mac."

"Well, we should try and put some of that running to good, use, huh?" Jaylen said with a laugh. "Do you go to school? I bet they have some cool sports teams around. You know I volunteer at the local community center and they have a bunch of fun activities going on over the summer. D'you think you'd like something like that?" Jaylen would always encourage getting kids out of the house and off their iPads and gaming consoles. He'd never been the kind of person who really liked to be indoors.

"Oh, strawberry picking is dope, and pumpkin picking in the fall. Maybe I'm just an old soul in a young body, but I like it, you know? I like feeling like I can live off the land. I had one of those books as a kid, that showed you all the plants that were safe to eat, which ones were poisonous? I would've killed it in The Hunger Games," he joked. "Uh, pun not intended, I think?"

"yeah i am actually showing him some track and field things and we go to the local school wen they're not in use and we do some running, but it's a work in progress right now. oh really, the community center? that's awesome. i definitely think that would be amazing to try out. what types of things do you do there when you volunteer?" he asked jaylen as he held his head to the side a bit. he was glad that jaylen had mentioned the community center because it was a good idea and it would help him socialize some more.

"don't get us started on pumpkin picking. we love to go get pumpkins and then carve them!" alexander smiled wide when he had brought it up. "oh really? do you know if they would have that type of book in the store here? i feel like that'd be an amazing thing to get for sebastian so that he can read up on those things. i want him to get involved in boy scouts. it's not something i could really do because i was raised in manhattan so not a lot of opportunities for that kind of stuff."

"honestly, mostly dresses, pants...button replacements. inseams are a bitch to sort out." adriana confessed, managing a small smile. "yeah, most of the time. i just put on a little lo-fi music, maybe something classical and tune out the rest of the world and then suddenly it's 3 am." she let out a sharp, sheepish laugh and raised her water glass up at him. "you can say that again. i've been mom guilted in all the ways a person possibly can, like every single time it happens it makes me want to have children even less. i would be a fun auntie, though." she hummed thoughtfully, nodding toward him. "you got any nieces or nephews of your own?"

"i can't do any of it honestly so kudos to you. i don't think i could ever sew something so if i need anything then i'm just going to come find you, especially with the buttom replacements. i feel like those are very common to need." alexander mentioned while he smiled over at her. "then that's all that really matters at the end of the day. i honestly don't remember the last time i was awake until 3 am. i remember waking up at 3 am, but not being awake until that time." alex explained honestly. "well my son is technically my nephew. my sister had him when she was young and then asked me to take him."

Adri took a sip of her drink—water, because she was technically still on the clock— before answering, eyes steady on him. “Yeah, full time here—bartending pays the bills, sewing helps when it doesn’t. Not exactly restful, but it works most of the time.” Her tone was even, but not unfriendly. “And hey, credit to you for surviving that chaos. Kids’ll wear you down fast. I sometimes think I'll have the energy for that someday, but I'm still youngish, so I doubt it'd happen anytime soon.” She paused, a small smirk tugging at the corner of her mouth. “Hopefully your night off includes more than lukewarm beer and weird conversations with strangers.”

"sewing? what exactly do you sew? anything? or do you like to do a few things." alexander questioned as he looked at her. "and do you enjoy it as well? i feel like that's a big part of any job. like not everybody enjoys what they do, but it certainly helps with something like this when people can be tough during this." he knew kids were rough, but drunk people was also a challenge and he wasn't sure if it was something that he could do. "well yeah and don't let the world tell you that you have to if you decide not to. there's a lot of pressure that says everyone needs to have kids so." he shrugged his shoulders a bit. "yeah, it most certainly should include more than those but hey conversations with strangers as long as they are adult makes it perfect for me.

"Track star, huh? You a runner, Sebastian?" Jaylen asked. "Officially, or just to cause trouble for your grown-up?" Maybe he should've gotten more into athletics when he was younger; the real kind, with structure and some kind of squad of team. Maybe he could have been some kind of pro athlete, join the Olympic kayaking team instead of becoming a jack of all outdoor activities, master of none. He simply hadn't had the motivation or dedication for it, though. "Berries are good. I used to go berry picking a lot in the summer growing up. My grandparents had blackberry bushes on their farm. Maybe I'll go with that out of nostalgia. Thanks for helping me." He looked down at Sebastian, giving him a smile. "Have you ever been blackberry picking? Fresh blackberries, right off the bushes?"

"oh yeah he is definitely a runner." he responded to jaylen before sebastian continued on babbling to the individual. he was glad that he had an outgoing child to liked to talk to people, but sometimes he struggled to keep up because sebastian was always on the go. "oh don't get me wrong. the berry one is good, just not the one that i would naturally go for." he replied before letting out a soft laugh and heard the question. "i don't think we have ever gone for blackberries specifically, but we have been for strawberries. i bet having blackberries right off the bush are like super amazing."

Caroline was going through a phase where she was actually interested in reading books. She was looking through the romance section when a book cover caught her eye - that was pretty much how it worked for her when she did want to read. However, another man was reaching for the same book, so she pulled her hand away. "Oh, thank you." She said, when he told her to go ahead. Once she grabbed the book, she had a little look at the blurb. She didn't just go by the cover, after all. "This sounds cute."

alexander began to look at other books that were in the romance section near that one and he then picked up a different one tan he was originally reaching for and he smiled, "good, i'm glad to hear that, the book that i am looking at sounds good too so maybe it worked out perfectly that this happened." alex mentioned to caroline and added the book to his other arm so that he could find some more.

He picked one hell of a time to moved to Blackstone Ridge. His job was not set to start until fall, when classes resumed, and he wasn't licensed to practice law in Texas leaving him with a lot more time than he anticipated. It wasn't much of exploring when he had grown up here, all these places were vaguely familiar. Not much had changed after all.

The place was packed, and perhaps he should've gotten his order to-go, but Isaac had nowhere else to be for a long while. So, he decided to have his meal here. Usually, unbothered by the fact that a place was full and others were looking for a place to sit. But, now he had his brother's voice in his head. Thinking of himself, and whatever other nonsense he had spewed. So much so, that when he saw the guy standing looking around, he motioned for him to take the empty seat on the table he currently occupied. "Plenty of space, feel free. Unless you want to have your meal standing up."

alexander wasn't expecting the chicken shack to be so busy. he thought that he was going to be able to come here and enjoy a meal before going on with his day. he was looking around for a place to sit with his meal but then saw that there was not one single table that was open but then he heard a voice as he was looking around and he looked at the individual who was offering a spot to him. "wow, thanks. that's awesome actually. i really aopreciate that. i don't know if i've ever seen this place so busy but it's crazy to me." he mentioned as he then sat down. "thank you for being so kind and sharing spacer with me."

Adriana glanced up from where she was drying a glass, catching the tail end of his sentence and the way he looked like he’d barely survived something brutal. “Depends,” she said softly, setting the glass down and grabbing the bottle to pour him another. “Are you fishing for sympathy, or just hoping someone’s day sucked worse than yours?” She slid the fresh drink across the bar with a small grin, not unkind, just teasing. “Mine was fine. No meltdowns, no spilled juice boxes—just a couple regulars and the usual guy who thinks ‘smile more’ is charming. So I guess I win today.”

"nope, not fishing for sympathy, i was just hoping that someone else's day wasn't as rough as mine. i mean i know i signed up to do what i do for a living but sometimes it can just be so draining. i work with kids and then i get to go home to a kid who is sometimes screaming so it's quite a life for me. luckily i have friends who are willing to watch my child for me tonight so that i can have a night od relaxation." alexander responded to the woman. "that's good to hear though. i like to hear when days are nice and easy. is this what you do full time?" he asked curiously.

Jaylen wasn't sure he'd ever be a parent, but he liked kids. He worked with them all the time, helping out with lessons at the local community center and on his adventure trips. At the smoothie shop, though, he hadn't expected a child to run up and just start speaking to him. Kids were fearless like that sometimes. "No, it's okay. I was just asking him where his grown-ups were and making sure he was okay." Jaylen extended his hand. "I'm Jaylen. Sebastian already introduced himself. You must be his grown-up in question, then?" He usually didn't outright assume 'dad'. The perils of having to correct too many people as a foster kid. "What's in your cup today? I'm deciding what to get."

alexander was glad that the other guy was okay with sebastian just helping himself to babble on in conversation. he laughed a bit and then he nodded. " nice to meet you jaylen, i'm alex and this is sebastian the future track star. yes i am the grown up in question. i'm the one who is in charge of him, but as you can see i took my eyes off of him for about three seconds and he decided to help himself to freedom." he laughed a bit. "we got the mixed berry. not my favorite to be honest. i would go for the tropical but sebastian here likes the mixed berrys o that's why we decided to get that today."

alexander was trying to pick out some books to read for himself. he had read way too many children's books and even though sebastian could hear the same books every night, alex needed something that was stimulating to his brain. he was walking through the fiction section and he had a medical magazine in his hand that he had picked up before. he was about to reach out for. a book, but then saw someone was reaching out for it too. "oh, sorry. you go ahead!"

work had been rough today dealing with all of the different children who were very complicated. he realized that there were a lot of parents out there who allowed their children to be disrespectful to them which in turn allowed them to feel like they could be disrespectful to others and alex was paid to just take it. so here he was with an empty glass in his hand, having already finished his first one and he ordered himself the next one before turning to the woman who was. near him, "please tell me your day was okay and not as stressful as mine."

alexander was in need of a smoothie on this hot day. he normally only needed a medium for himself but he knew that his son, sebastian was going to want to steal some so he got a large mixed berry. it wasn't his favorite (he liked the tropical), but it was a good match for sebastian. he was sitting at the table with him and was allowing his son to take a spoon to eat it. he laughed a bit and as his phone rang, he leaned over to answer it before he realized that sebastian had taken off and he sighed before running up to him and picking him up playfully. "sorry about that." he apologized to the individual who had been bothered. "this one likes to run off every chance he gets."

Harry leaned on the counter, drumming her fingers next to the register. She was on a roll today, the vinyl of Cowboy Carter spinning softly in the corner. "Alligator Tears" had a driving beat, and Harry found herself, as usual, transfixed by Beyonce's voice. "Somethin' 'bout those tears of yours, how does it feel to be adored?" She sang as though no one was listening, danced as though know one was watching, but the little jingle of the bell above the door signaled a visitor. A younger version of herself might have been embarrassed at being caught in the act, but these days? She didn't really care how people saw her. "Welcome to Vinyl Destination! Let me know if you're looking for anything in particular, or you wanna talk some tunes." She paused, a sly grin on her face. "If you're feeling extra lucky, let me pick out a record for you."

ahhhh, the record store. music was something that alex had always found a heavenly bliss in. he was walking in the store and he heard the record that was playing and then heard a voice that was singing along to it. he laughed softly as she welcomed him and then nodded. "awesome, thank you. you have a nice singing voice by the way. i don't know if anyone has ever told you that before." he complimented and then headed over into the blues and older stuff to see if there was something he had been looking for. "i'll keep that in mind. are you a fan of all genres and eras? or do you have specifics that you gravitate towards?"
