Trying to make a point to my father.
So our village hasn’t had water for over 14 days now. Israel usually turns on our water lines every ten days, but have skipped the last scheduled water opening.
As a result, many people’s wells are running out while we’re in the middle of a massive heat wave.
Homes her are built with large water reserves, either in the form of big plastic tubs on top of the house, or underwater wells. These reserves are filled on the days Israel allows us water (although it’s limited and these reserves aren’t always filled all the way) and when they run out…. You’re completely out of water. No toilets, no showers, no drinking water, etc.
To compound the issue, on the hottest days Israeli settlers turn their ACs up creating a massive spike in electricity demand. To compensate, our electricity is shut off.
So we’re in the middle of a heat wave with no water, little electricity, and severely limited movement, facing intimidation campaigns by Israeli soldiers and settlers, and yet we continue to be “in the wrong” for fighting to change this half-life.
Today marks the 15th day without water due to Israeli restrictions. Here’s an Al-Jazeera articles detailing Israelis policy of dominance through the control of water, for those interested: http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/06/israel-water-tool-dominate-palestinians-160619062531348.html
As you’ll see in the article, it’s not even caused by any remote scarcity of water, but simply because Israeli chooses to deprive Palestinians of basic water needs while allowing Israeli settlers to fill their swimming pools and consume on average three times more water per capita than Palestinians.
Palestinians on average consume 73 liters per day, with the World Health Organization standard is at least 100 liters, while Israeli settlers - the people who receive all our water when Israel cuts it off to us - consume on average 369 liters per day per capita.
Today is day 16 and still running on nearly depleted reserves
Yo we used to HATE having to resort to the beir. Plastic plates, plastic cups, plastic everything til the water came back. Shower? Haha you better use the sink and a damn washcloth spoiled lil American girl
Back when we lived in my grandma’s house, on the days the water and electricity were cut, we’d do just that for showers..and the WORST part was having to share the water with the others in the house, and when you have a big family…..you would decide to just forgo “showering” if you didn’t get to go first or second, because the idea of using that water was just disgusting x_x. Also what I hated about using our old beir [well] was that it wasn’t the most tightly sealed one, and so when we’d resort to using it…the water had a very discernible taste to it that just made your entire body squirm as you wondered what it was giving it that taste.
Bringing this back to give people a sliver of what life is like under Israeli occupation.
We were without water for 17 days. Exact dates are in the notes but I’ve already lost them myself, but this took place in July of 2017.
It was not the last time we were without water for such a long stretch, nor was it the first. Israel uses it’s absolute control over Palestinian resources as a means of keeping us “in check” and as a form of collective punishment.
They tried it

Hi, I'm 25 and debating starting male-to-female HRT. However, I'm scared that HRT won't help me at all. It seems like HRT does so little after puberty, especially by the time one gets in their 20s. I'm really scared that I'll just end up being someone in a male body, but with breasts. Is there anything you can say to someone having this fear? Thank you, and sorry, I suspect this is a silly question.
Actually, the claim that HRT doesn’t do much after puberty is a myth. I started when I was 31 years old and now I’m 35. =)
It’s never too late to transition!
Yeah, anon, have you seen my timeline? I started at 29.
It’s never too late.
Seriously, I transitioned at 39 and I’m 41 now. Hormones are magic whatever your age and while some things stay, many things change and it’s been totally worth it for me.
OMG!!! I love seeing posts like this. The hope it inspires. especially in girls like me, is unprecedented. Thank you!
Hope
I felt the same way before I started transitioning and especially because I have a fair masculine build. But you know what I’ve learned from my experience so far? Fuck it! There is always hope and you could end up surprising yourself with the results.
I think results vary, I don’t see much difference between pre-hrt and 8 years on hrt
Just adding another voice to the barrage: It. Is. Never. Too. Late!
The top two pictures are from 2011, age 32. The bottom three are from this yeah, 2016, age 37, and (almost) 2 years on hrt. Hrt is magic.
Never.
Too late.
REBLOGING!!! Always! Forever!

Look at these amazing and brave women!!!! A reminder to all my followers, it’s not too late!! You can do it!!!!!
This is what I needed to see in my day ☺️ I’m only 23 but I think about making this change on a daily basis and it’s been 3 years since I’ve been thinking that. Hrt is in my future (:
Look at all these gorgeous women! <3
THIS is what i needed to be able to send to my struggling trans friends

You guys are dangerously close to realizing specifically what kinds of people they keep from voting and why.
I want to drill this into everybody’s head:
The United States of America has the highest prison population in the world
Black Americans and Latin people make up the majority of this population (many of whom are non-violent offenders)
Federal Prisons in America require that their state keeps their prisons at a maximum occupancy at all times.
The 13th amendment did not entirely abolish slavery…just one form of it. It remains legal through industrial prison system
Oh and we have privatized prisons which allow companies to actually make money off of keeping people incarcerated
Here’s what’s really perverse: prisoners, who cannot vote, still get counted in the U.S. Census. The more prisoners a county has, the more representation it gets, even though the prisoners cannot vote. See how that works? The more black and brown people they lock up, the more government resources and political representation they get. Even though those prisoners have no say and cannot vote.
If county-A has a population of 50 voters but no prisons, and county-B has a population of 50 voters and 50 prisoners, the county with the prisoners gets more government funding and more political represention. This is sometimes called “prison gerrymandering” and it is used in redistrictring.
Not so fun Fact: Southern states that reliably vote for Republicans also have the highest prison population in the United States. (source). So mass incarceration is a double whammy. It’s both a form of voter suppression and a tool to strengthen white people’s political power.

Hari Nef is helping to normalize transwomen’s bodies and identities in a really important way that if you’re cisgender you may not have thought about
Nef goes on to explain the difference between her photoshoot with Velencoso, versus how transgender women are typically photographed in fashion editorials. “Images of trans femmes being loved rarely exist outside of pornography,” Nef wrote. “We tend to be hyper-sexualized and objectified within the cisgender gaze. Either that or we’re dehumanized as scum or (just as bad) untouchable goddesses.”

‘Race and racism is a reality that so many of us grow up learning to just deal with. But if we ever hope to move past it, it can’t just be on people of color to deal with it. It’s up to all of us – Black, white, everyone – no matter how well-meaning we think we might be, to do the honest, uncomfortable work of rooting it out. It starts with self-examination and listening to those whose lives are different from our own. It ends with justice, compassion, and empathy that manifests in our lives and on our streets.’ — Michelle Obama
Athena blessed her with the ability to protect herself and men beheaded her for it.
That’s actually a really intetesting intpretation of it I hadn’t thought of. Most people seem to think Athena turned Medusa into a gorgon as punishment for defiling her temple, but thinking that she did so to protect her from being abused again is interesting and I like it!
Athena’s hands were tied. Yes, she was a powerful Goddess, but she was very much a woman in a “boys club”, and the true offending party (don’t think for a moment that Athena blamed Medusa for being raped in the temple, Athena knows better) held all the cards. There was nothing that Athena could do to punish the true criminal, and she was expected to punish Medusa by everyone else. What’s a Goddess to do when she cannot punish those who need to be punished and is expected to punish not only the truly innocent party, but her most beloved follower? Use that incredible brain power she had to protect Medusa at all costs, and of course the men would see it as punishment, to be have her beauty stripped from her and sent to live in the shadows. Medusa should have been KILLED for supposedly defiling the temple, whether she truly did or not, but she was given the gift of life, and the ability to protect herself and her daughters (who she bore thanks to Poseidon). This is why Medusa’s image was used to signify woman’s shelters and safe houses.
Medusa means “guardian; protectress”, and she was.
holy shit.

Potent minimalist art sends a strong message about police and vigilante brutality in America
Journalist and artist Shirin Barghi has created a gripping, thought-provoking series of graphics that not only examines racial prejudice in today’s America, but also captures the sense of humanity that often gets lost in news coverage. Titled “Last Words,” the graphics illustrate the last recorded words by Brown and other young black people — Trayvon Martin, Oscar Grant and others — who have been killed by police in recent years.

THIS ONE FUCKING WORKS. REBLOG IT.
full fucking offense but schools should automatically pass all students right now idgaf about nerd feelings like there's a rule that if a disaster falls on the school like a fire or an earthquake then all the students pass well i think a global pandemic that threatens and destroys the physical emotional mental and financial aspects of people's lives kinda fucking counts as a disaster
school admin would sooner worry about how the next semester would go well that's assuming your students and faculty will even fucking survive or afford to be here next sem
i know they're thinking about the prerequisites and how we can't advance into the next sem without them but i promise them the goddamn prerequisites are on the bottom of the list of things that will prevent people from showing up to the next sem
