it’s a good thing they were already dead because that last look was fatal
Day and night, be brave, be there for whoever needs you. Be willing and eager to go forward, and never stop showing that you care.

The fact that I’m in the historic preservation field and still everyone I know is celebrating the Nottoway plantation burning down because we have standards
Crying it’s so great

As another advocate for historical preservation, if you want to check out an actual plantation museum that's used to educate on the evils of slavery rather than use it as a pretty prop for weddings, check out the Whitney Plantation.
Correct; everyone I know would be devastated to lose an actual place of education and reconciliation, and this place was not it. While it was unique in terms of architecture, the harm its owners were actively doing to the community far exceeded its worth.
Other institutions that are actually doing the work include McLeod Plantation in Charleston SC and Montpelier in Montpelier Station VA, whose interpretation is co-stewarded by a descendants committee.
Also the Whitney Plantation recently had their federal funding pulled - presumably because of their whole "slavery was really bad, actually" message - so if you care about historic preservation and can do so without hurting yourself, maybe send a couple bucks their way?
