Apologies for the lack of posting in the last few days! trying to get back on top of it! so this post is focused on a basic repeating design focusing on support generation mitigation. lightweight and aggressive in styling, I look forward to getting this printed!

another experimental design again focused on modular construction, this one with eight components. Again the design is intended to minimised support and material usage as well as maximising the number of components produced during printing.

another quick post today, this one focused on a modular design as to better facilitate full print bed optimisation. E.g. split design and magnetise together! again the designs are all focused about hollow form and material reduction alongside this, so the design is all about maximisation!

Just a simple post today, little ring I conceived to test the print angles and feasibility of zero support printing in metals.

Todays post focuses on mechanical functionality, specifically that of semi articulated ball joints. this design is very early days and the form itself aside from the function has a long way to go but the idea seems sound. again normal considerations apply e.g. support mitigation, material reduction, and this time functional tolerances to allow for the joints to function! once these issues have been ironed out I think theres some potential here!

Here we have another new design built with the intention of pushing the capabilities of DMLM (direct metal laser melting) this one intended to push the clarity of the print when working with delicate structures, as well as cultivating the material reduction stand of thinking. Again I will have to wait to test this and see if the theory holds water when facilities are available once again.

Another quick update today, this collection is built again around repetition and the minimalization of support generation during printing. Purely speculative at this point and in need of work before production, including streamlining and material reduction theres some work yet to go! hopefully I'll be able to start posting more of my post-digital craft work soon, facilities and covid willing!

Another design from the support mitigation series (i think that's what i'm calling it now) again focused of the reduction of material utilised during the producton. This design is a heavy one but also quite delicate, wich is a contradiction in terms but non the less effectivley sumarises this piece as its both fragile and will utilise a fair amount of material. I look forward to a test production to really see how it performs post print!

Not my best work but demonstrates the new idea that revolves around modular construction allowing for print bed optimisation! theory being use the nessesity of deconstruction as a way of designing in a split to act as a clasp, and of course this gives me the excuse to use magnets!

A simple one today, playing with the idea of repetition and again utilising the idea of support generation mitigation. Drawing on a geometric pattern to create a semi complex lattice that blends down to a plain silver band.

Today I'm posting a little differently, this design comes from some experimental work I did some time ago focused on post-digital-amalgamation. Although not including the key component of forged material like previous work (that if I can find photo's of I may well post) the aesthetic qualities are similar. 

built utilising the wire frame - tube - blend process I fall back on from time to time I feel that this has potential, although admittedly its go a way to go before id bother actually producing it as the form is way to heavy. as well at this i would like to take this and the idea of amalgamation together and see what happens when facilities to do so become available again to see if the potential is hiding within!!

Here we have a very literal design built around support generation mitigation using repeat structures focused around a 20 degree angle the intension is to create a object that is both light weight and low cost to produce despite being produced in precious metal (silver) I may add!

continuing on in this vein i hope to test and explore new versions soon!

Just a quick post today, this ones more of a commercial piece and inspired by Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus. due to the intricacy its a toss up for final process whether to utilise casting of DMLM for the final production!

this design still needs some streamlining but i’m quit happy with it, the real test will be in the clarity and quality of the final piece post physical production.

going forwards final process will include material reduction and support optimisation, will post more and hopefully a physical prototype when production facilities become available again!

Some more speculative designs, this time aimed at pushing the delicacy DMLM allows within the design itself and the usual material support reduction. I look forward to producing this design to see whether it is in fact feasible...

Continuing on following this new line of enquiry these designs again aimed for DMLM focus on both visual impact and material reduction. built around the idea of reducing much needed support material and cost of production, this piece created utilising the idea of 20 degree angles within a organic lattice focusses on scale whilst material volume is minimal.

going forwards some lateral thinking will be required as to how this can be printed as at this point the print volume will struggle to accommodate the entire piece so modular design will be required.

Another development built around the idea of designing for DMLM this piece would be printed as component parts each hollow and calculated to minimise support materials needed. this will continue on as I attempt to build a further collection around the concept of angle driven support reduction.

I’d consider this design a success as when run through the support generation procedure a definite volume reduction and as such a cost reduction was obvious!

overall a positive result!
