Another cool fight scene that gives inspiration in its ruthlessness. We wont be able to pull it off to a realistic quality like this but want to have the same kind of energy involved within the fight.
Shortly after posting the first Steel shadow episode someone (no idea who) posted a 'dubstep' remix of the video which provided hilarious results.
Epileptic nightmare
We have been working on a simple ominous website to present our work on. This is meant to be relatively nameless while still showing off attributes of our work. The simple looping image combined with the low frequency sounds allows for the viewer to be brought into a trance like state. The only problem at the moment is the sound and images take a while to load so we will be trying to downsize these files to improve load time.
I have been looking for different electronic parts which will create a casing for the speakers. These parts may be semi-function or not functional at all. The idea behind looking through this material was to try help generate ideas by looking at possible materials we can use.
Interactive art.
This video is our first attempt at footage we intend to play from the projector mounted inside our installation. The video was distorted by the manipulation of code creating random outcomes and effects. We like the use of this kind of effect as the video is changed to the point where in the end the footage becomes unidentifiable.
We have been doing as many experiments as we can. Sounds will react different depending on the audience and the space the sound has to navigate. People can have common or individual responses to a specific sound. We have noticed the less familiar the sound is and the less obvious the speakers are more people have a diminished external reaction, keeping all their ideas or curiosity to themselves. This is why i feel we will need a visual cue to create or enhance emotional responses caused by the sound.
I was particularly interested in the way 70Hz worked in the alley space. The sound had the ability reflect off walls and flood peoples hearing creating a disorientating feeling. I made a modification to this tone using audition. Using slight fluctuations and distortion it has intensified the sound.
Greenbay High Tone Buzz | Networking
This is Greenbay Z petrol station who have implemented a high frequency speaker. This has been done to discourage young people from loitering or vandalising the building. This is possibly effective due to the audible range for a younger person goes to higher tones than older people. Selecting an audience by using different tones I think has potential so I am going to do more research in different audible ranges specific to individuals.
While experimenting with speakers in an alley we discovered sounds bellow 60Hz would suddenly drop off in intensity. This was caused by the sound waves cancelling each other out and not having time to form. The low frequency did work well in this space because of the waves ability to echo off the concrete so we tuned it into around 70Hz which gave us the best effect. Causing a completely engulfing sound to any passersby.
AUT public experiment | Networking
As a group we have been setting up speakers in public spaces. These are to test how sounds work in specific spaces and the reaction of the people witnessing these sounds.
Our first test was in an open space in AUT quad. We used singular and osculating sounds ranging from 15Hz to 19000Hz. We quickly realized the the less audible sounds almost created an awkward atmosphere where people exposed would avoid interaction or it would go unnoticed. After breaching the gap and playing sounds where a majority of the audience noticed people started looking and reacting to the sound. As the sounds are tones it's hard for the people to relate causing an alien like effect.
We learn about how sounds travel as well. Low frequency sounds seemed to be surround and reflected off objects. High frequency was very directional but you could hear it from very far away. It also had a weird effect where it blended in with the sound of the city and was easily overlooked by people unaware of its presents. I am interested in this idea of sounds being generated to utilise the environment they are in.
Supposedly this sound is the same frequency as your eye. With the right speakers this can cause blurred or spotted vision but be prepared for a massive headache.
