The Year of Magical Thinking, Joan Didion
“We are imperfect mortal beings, aware of that mortality even as we push it away, failed by our very complication, so wired that when we mourn our losses we also mourn, for better or for worse, ourselves. as we were. as we are no longer. as we will one day not be at all.”
Joan Didion “The Year of Magical Thinking”
The Year of Magical Thinking (2005), Joan Didion, p. 225
i once read that joan didion and her husband would walk in Central Park every morning. they didn’t always walk together, as they preferred different routes, but they kept each other in mind and found a way to intersect before leaving. i realized then that that was what i wanted from a relationship. not the glamour, the intrigue, or the lust. those things are great, of course. but what i really want is someone to keep me in mind. someone to intersect with me before leaving.

Tell me about paradise. Paradise… is free of pain and sorrow. Everything we've ever done is forgotten there. Any pain that we've ever felt… is erased. And all the dead… live.
"Noah" Hanno Tauber & Elisabeth Doppler DARK│2017 – 2020
the tragedy of characters attempting to break free from the cycle (violence, fate, generational trauma, etc.) that they go down a path and become someone they don’t even recognize all to fulfill the cycle they had every intention of breaking and fail the quest

That's enough for me, if it's enough for you. I reckon that's enough for me, yeah.
