Melissa gave me Elvis Costello's excellent memoir for Christmas, and as I'm reading it, I remembered a story that's too long for a tweet:
In 2006, as my pal Dave and I exited a Bob Dylan show at New York City Center, Elvis Costello walked next to us up the aisle. Dave was reading "Is Sex Necessary?" by James Thurber & E.B. White, and it was the only physical object he had, so he opened the book to the back page and asked Elvis to sign it. "Certainly!" Elvis said. He took the book, autographed it, closed the cover and looked at the title for a second. As he handed the book back to Dave, Elvis smiled, cocked an eyebrow up and said, "And yes ... IT IS!"
Um, how had I never seen the Ramones play a medley of the Best Song nominees at the 1995 MTV Movie Awards??
