Taking this course has allowed me to change my perspective on digital media. Reading the books assigned (Reality Hunger, for example) made me realize how much digital media played such an important yet overbearing role in everyone’s life. It has created a distinguishing environment between generations and has allowed for rapid communication of ideas. Even more so, it has created a sense that we must believe everything we see even if it is not true. In addition, taking this course has allowed me to be more comfortable when recording audio in digital media. It is not always easy to shine a light on yourself and be the center of attention. Whatever kind of digital media that you are using from Twitter to Garageband, you are the person creating your story.

One principal that I will take away from this course is to always be open-minded when trying to express myself. Whether it is by taking a selfie, recording a podcast, or shooting a documentary I should always try to be myself no matter what anyone else thinks. This course has taught me to push my boundaries and to believe that it okay to be vulnerable. As I mentioned earlier, it can be challenging expressing yourself while the whole world could be listening. Some platforms can have a global audience and while the world might not see it, usually the people someone cares about it can see what they produce. This course had made me realize that everyone is still fairly new to using this technology and there is no way of being a pro at communication. We can always learn something new every day and digital media is the perfect outlet to facilitate a humble exchange of ideas. My relationship with creative writing has changed by allowing myself to become more inclusive of different styles of writing. I learned that incorporating different styles such as personal narrative, poetry, fiction, non-fiction, lyric essay, I can create new kinds of work that are not limited to one particular genre. It is how the works like Bluets and White Girls among others have become works of their own. No matter how professional these works may or may not seem to be, the authors create different styles of writing to tell a story about themselves. The genius and creativity behind these approaches has allowed me to change my perspective on the concept of creative writing. It is important to creatively write and/or make digital media because it an environment that surrounds on a day to day basis. It dictates so much that we do that it is nearly impossible to survive with cell phones or the internet in this day and age. The more we are able to communicate with others in a creative way, the more ideas we can exchange. Even more so, digit media has become the new form of art. People publish their works online and copyright issues have taken an extremist form. Older books can be found online and books are no longer necessary for some people. The reason why it is important to make creative leaps in this realm of digital media is truly show the world who you truly are. Important digit media communications, such as podcasts, documentaries, PowerPoint Presentations, blogging, etc. are becoming a new source of expression as well as income for a good portion of the general public. Creating new creative content through digital media allows you to express yourself in ways that could not be previously expressed before this technology was available.
