explanation below the cut!!

i mixed their scientific names with their like uhh regular names ? in some of these so sorry about that. some i just know by that name (like diatoms) instead of their scientific name. and no, i don’t know all these names by memory, i do know most tho… and also algae are so cool and have so many benefits and could solve so many issues like food scarcity and climate change…

ok sorry, now first we start with phoenix. i chose dinoflagellates and noctiluca scintillans, both of which are bioluminescence algae! they glow blue. and phoenix is blue. well, his suit. and like phoenix, they light up the world :3 tho i think they are actually dangerous but whatevs. also spirulina which is considered a superfood because eating it has LOTS of advantages. aztecs used to eat them for their long runs as messengers!! i chose it for phoenix because that guy has survived way too many things he shouldn’t have survived so he must have superpowers or something.

now miles! for miles i immediately knew he HAD to be a rhodophyta (red algae) though i struggled choosing which species. at the end, i ended up choosing palmaria palmata, botryocladia occidentalis, and padina pavonica. palmaria palmata bc it looks as soft as i think edgeworth’s suit is. botryocladia occidentalis bc it looks kinda spiky at first but in close inspection, it’s actually made up of little bubbles that resemble grapes. which i believe is an accurate description of edgeworth, intimidating but when you get closer to him he is actually very caring and soft :] and then padina pavonica bc of his cravat/jabot.

for maya i chose coralline algae. although my favorite one is pink, there are also purple ones! so i chose that one for her… because porple. that’s really the only reason lol

FRANZISKA‼️ i am just realizing as i’m writing this that the algae i chose for her are my favorite ones just as franziska is my fav character 💀 i guess i do have a type? lol 😭 anyway, i chose diatoms and padina pavonica (again? YES AGAIN. i chose it for franziska first, but they both have their ridiculous neck attire so it belongs to both of them). anyway… diatoms are also called jewels of the sea and are often presented in teal/turquoise and franziska wears teal/turquoise jewels so :3 padina pavonica bc it reminds me of her bow. also, now that i notice, padina pavonica also has a bit of yellow and gray which is basically franziska’s color palette.

mia is padina australis and golden algae (dinobryon). padina australis really reminded of her hair. and golden algae reminded me of both her scarf and channeling (green magatama magic…). yeah, that’s it :3
