TAROT CREATURE : MERLIN & THE JUSTICE CARD “I would like to introduce my Tarot Creature, Merlin, the Turkish Angora. Merlin is a sweet kitty who always brightens my day with his constant chatter and loving nature. In this particular photo he was helping me cleanse my deck. Merlin also has a brother, Archimedes, who is a black tuxedo. I have tried countless times to get a photo of them together in the position of the Justice card but they do not like cooperating. We always call Merlin our magic kitty. Aside from his obvious wizard name, I truly believe that he has such a special and magical energy- he has helped many of our guests achieve Yahtzees just by him kissing the dice! When we adopted the boys, I was at a low point in my life and I have to attribute some of my newly found happiness to them. How can you not smile when your cat is laying on your tarot cards while you’re in the middle of doing something and staring at you upside down with crossed eyes? I'm very pleased to announce that an album I worked on last year as a supervisor is now available for all you sync people out there through EMI Production Music/PLAY. Going by the name of 'India!' its an album of modern indian fusion/crossover tracks. We were aiming to capture sounds that are reminiscent of artists such as Trans Global Underground, Talvin Singh, Asian Dub Foundation and Cornershop. It was a priviledge to search, discover and work with such talented composers, some in India and some based in the UK. Artists and writers who contributed worth a mention are Bandish Project, Shammi Pithia, Vipin Mishra, Kiran Thakrar and James Deane.  If you work in Advertising, Film or TV and are reading this, then give me a shout on [email protected] and I'll arrange a copy to be sent out to you.

Smith & Burrows - Funny Looking Angels

Smith and Burrows are Tom Smith of Editors and Andy Burrows, Razorlights's drummer. I was very keen to hear their debut album 'Funny Looking Angels', which is a collection of christmassy and warm wintery songs that apparently they felt the need to create.  Its an homage to the Christmas classics but they've also treated us to some new songs all of their own.  The opening track of the album is a haunting and sombre cover of 'In The Bleak Midwinter' sung by Tom which has a rousing orchestral ending (festive bells included) that's sure to warm the cockles of your heart.  Andy Burrows provides vocals on 'As The Snowflakes Fall', a stunning ballad that's reminiscent of Elliott Smith. There's some cool covers, namely 'Its A Wonderful Life' by Black, 'On and On' by The Longpigs and Yazoo's 'Only You' and the album ends magically with a cover of 'The Christmas Song', a gorgeous duet which Tom sings with Agnes Obel.  This is a wonderful and complete album which looks like being the soundtrack to my Christmas 2011.

New music Friday

I'm continuing to successfully convince myself that we're moving into a really positive and exciting era for music and listening to these artists recently is the reason why - The Kissaway Trail, Cass McCombs, Wilco, Bandish Projekt, Shri, Lanterns on the Lake, Noel Gallagher, Kele and M83 (which is my favourite album of recent times).

The Hallowe'en Parade with Piney Gir

I'm feeling really 'witchy and magical' in the run up to my favourite wiccan festival, Hallowee'en and I'll be kicking off the festivities by attending The Hallowe'en Parade at the Shortwave Cinema in Bermondsey this Saturday. 

Its not just a Hallowe'en party its also Piney Gir's album-launch, so we'll get to hear some songs from the brilliant new album Geronimo!  Very exciting... It's supposed to be 'a fun-filled mini-festival with music, film, good times and maybe even a ZOMBIE SURPRISE or two...!!'  So I'm looking forward to having a couple of drinks with some Witches, Zombies and Vampires - bring it on! It all kicks off at 7pm - see you there?

Cornershop Cocktails

I love this idea, its really quirky and fun.  The band Cornershop have had 2 cocktails created for them by Dishoom of Covent Garden.  Named after 2 of their songs - Judy Sucks a Lemon and Brimful of Asha.  I must admit I love a cocktail so I'll be sure to try these recipes out. International day of Peace

Today, September 21st is the International Day of Peace.

John and Yoko were trying to raise awareness for world peace back in the 60's and we're still trying now. Here's hoping our planet is moving towards more peaceful times.
