This is amazing omg. Thanks for sending it to me! Alicent fans, give this a read!
You're the only friend I ever had. And I've had so many friends.
Something about how Yellowjackets reflects our own society when it comes to valuing human life based on usefulness and contribution. Specifically when it comes to Jackie, Javi and Ben. Jackie is ostracised mainly because she hasnât been a productive, helpful member of the group. Was she depressed and traumatised? Yes but when your society is made up of traumatised individuals the empathy will only stretch so far, Javi is just a kid, they saw him as a dependent, he canât reasonably be expected to do as much as the older teens. He does have survival skills but when it came down to him and Natalie, one of the most useful members of the group because of her hunting skills. Javi was the âchosenâ sacrifice. Then thereâs Ben. He became disabled and at first empathy and compassion won over usefulness. His life had value and they didnât leave him behind. As time went on they needed his guidance less and he couldnât physically contribute. From the moment he became disabled he lost the chance to solidify himself as a valuable member of the group and lost his grip on authority. If theyâll turn on their captain and friend, for being âuselessâ how long before theyâll turn you? Maybe the issue with these characters, whoâs value and position in the group ultimately came down to their abilities and usefulness isnât solely because theyâre in a survival situation but because they were raised in a society where theyâre taught that a human beings value comes down to how useful and productive they are.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire dir. Francis Lawrence | 2013
Feels like it took away Mariâs agency by not having the Mari vs Shauna plot in the finale. It was MARI that volunteered to kill Shauna. Mari had her own plan and motivations which were not sacrificing herself so a white girl could escape. The hunt was supposed to be the tragic end of their rivalry because the both were willing to hunt each other to achieve the respective goals.
convinced the yellowjackets won so much because the opposition goalies would see Shauna Tai and Lottie coming up top for corner kick and just straight up shit themselves
sorry, i thought we all liked that fictional woman because she sucks
just got slapped
i immediately disregard any analysis of Alicent from a strictly modern view point. Alicent canât be a conservative or a âwoman for Trumpâ or a pick me because she does not exist in a world where women have the same rights and freedoms of men, she is a woman in a quasi medieval society operating within this societies constructs. âAlicent seeks male validationâ oh you mean from her father who owns her? and her husband who owns her? and her son who she is forced to have and then forced to rely on because as a woman she cannot own land or wealth in her own right? no shit she does, as does Rhaenyra and Rhaenys because despite having the illusion of freedom, something Alicent doesnât even have, both Rhaenyra and Rhaenys are beholden to the men in their lives, Rhaenyra to her father and Rhaenys to her husband.
even those who are sympathetic to Alicent still cling to this idea that if Alicent just sided with Rhaenyra then her life would be so much better but respectfully that is a crock of shit, Rhaenyra wouldnât do anything for Alicent or help improve the standing of any other women because just like Alicent she is out for her own livelihood and the livelihoods of her children, that is the priority for both these women so why is Alicent always expected to put Rhaenyra over her family? Alicent never had the privilege of a women support other women mindset because she needs to look out for her self and because so many people refuse to look at Alicent outside of their modern lenses they think she deserves to be humiliated and punished simply for doing what women had to do for centuries. to me it proves that they never bothered to engage with her character critically or with the actual politics of the world.
d&d sansa: iâm a slow learner.
book 11yo sansa: didnât just beg for mercyâshe argued that ned wasnât in his right mind, drugged with milk of the poppy and badly wounded. she even reminded them of the long-standing friendship between robert and her father. and she did all of this in front of joffreyâs entire court. tell me again how sheâs slow.
