First. Peach. Crop. Ever. Each about 3 inches across and on a tree that was more twig than tree - 8 total.

First grape harvest in years and they are tiny. Think the bush is still fighting the move 4 years ago. Quarter for perspective.

Our urban farm berries on the left, fruit stand's bounty on the right. Actual first lemons we grew going into the freezer jams, leaving more time to read in the very overgrown veggie garden.

This week we had a discussion about companion planting and alternative ways of growing food.

We planted a Three Sister Garden which is an old Native American tradition of growing corn, beans, pumpkin or / and squash together. Our pumpkin sprouted! The beans, the giving sister, pulls nitrogen out of the air and into the soil for corn and pumpkin.

This is fruit entirely from Raspberry One, the thorny patch of red raspberry canes that fruit first.  I pick what comes off the canes easily, if a berry is still  hanging on, it gets left for another day.  

At this pace, I can enjoy a lot of the fruit fresh, allocating myself a cup of whatever-was-just-picked for breakfast each day.  By making a measurement, it works to even out the variances in what actually gets picked, and each day’s eating is selected starting with whatever is ripest.
