he knows her name, he knows it well. yet he can’t find it in himself to give a damn to show her the barest of basic manners in the face of her fury. if anything, hanzo is well aware of his patronizing tone and finds almost a modicum of amusement in just how quickly she bristles at the past. there’s just such an odd, fascinating satisfaction in watching people break, watching them grow hostile in the element of their mistakes.
he’s almost not even upset anymore at the loss of the target he’s been tracking, but, nontheless, he still has a job to do.
the look he gives her when she turns back once more to reprimand him is unsettling to say in the least. ballsy, he’ll give her that. most anyone who acted even in the slightest way as she had to him often times did not wake from their slumber. even if he’s fallen from the grace of his clan, the whispers of his name in the darkest of alleys is still a taboo. his eyes scan the interior, all too aware of the curious eyes on them. as if he needed a possible spy to spill his whereabouts to those who mean him harm.
“i will remember this.” hanzo responds, standing to his feet with intent to leave. “you leave me no choice.” he adds, the ghost of a smile cast onto his lips.
two missing performers is a message and a mercy. an ironically cruel one at that. it’s all too obvious as to who’s behind it, but the damns hanzo has left to give is equal to the number of stages those girls will ever dance again.
she’s never told him where she lived, but it doesn’t take much to figure it out as he bypasses the security, slipping in through the window. her home is oddly homely for someone that has no one, that’s for sure. his idling trek takes him throughout the entirety of her place, though there’s nothing quite of interest. he’s in the middle of snooping around her bedroom when he hears the front door open, yet he still bides his time, picking up the picture frame on her nightstand after turning on the lamp to better examine the photo.
Eva doesn't sleep well that night, because who could after an exchange like that?
The man’s gaze stuck with her long after Hanzo exited her club, long into the night even after the final patron left and she was making sure every one of her employees returned home safely. She couldn't risk them leaving alone, not with his cold words still echoing in her mind, and even as she found herself at home she still couldn't shake the weight of them from her memory.
How foolish she was to attempt standing up to him.
Eva knew from the moment two of her performers didn’t show up the next day without a word that Hanzo had done something. It made her sick to think of the harm he had brought on them, or if they were even alive, but the paralyzing fear of not being able to call the police because of what more he could do made her stomach turn even more. Trying to push through the evening as if nothing had happened proved difficult, especially when her entire world had so easily been flipped upside down.
It didn’t matter to her that it was only two of her dancers gone -- that was still two people she cared deeply about now missing, two people she had promised to smallport and protect from the first day they began working for her. A promise she had failed to keep with her foolish act of pride against someone as dangerous as him.
It’s late into the night when Eva finally found herself at home, much later than usual due to her once again guaranteeing that every person who worked for her got home safe and had someone trustworthy with them. Her tired body slumped heavily against the wood of her door once it was properly shut and locked behind her, a shaky sigh leaving painted lips as she willed herself to push away from the surface and rid herself of her coat. It fell to the floor as she flicked the lights on, temptation ever present in her mind to just collapse·on the couch and release the emotions threatening to spill.
She almost did too, until the sudden glow of her bedroom lamp from underneath the door stole her attention. Her heart stopped then -- without a doubt Eva knew who it was and, despite the various items around her home that she could easily use as a weapon, she knew attacking her intruder would be unwise.
Her purse fell to the floor next, hitting the wood under her feet with a dull thud as she made her way down the hall to her bedroom. Hands shook as she pushed open the door only to have her fears confirmed by him standing there, her hand gripped tight on the doorframe as she spoke.
"What more do you want with me?"
Eva was surprised at how easily she was able to speak despite the violent rush of emotions bubbling inside of her, heavy eyes falling to the photo he held as her body shifted to rest against the doorframe.
"You can’t use that man as leverage against me...he’s been dead for years. I have no family left, at least none that I care about."
