[ TEXT ]: I work at the strip club, the one at the Crossroads. I take care of the security there. You never know what can happen, sometimes customers are very stupid.

[ TEXT ]: Oh, a few times. It’s not fun, really. Not worth it. It made me so emotional I was annoying even to myself. 

[ TEXT ]: Maybe some cool old rock classic. Super cliché but always great.

[Text]: I didn’t even know there was a strip club here. Learn something new each day, I guess.

[Text]: I always thought it was interesting that stuff like alcohol and some drugs don’t really effect us as much as others. I mean, they do a bit, but not as strongly as they would normal people. I wonder why that is...

[Text]: Old Rock? Yes, it is super cliche. LOL What band is your favorite? Do the Eagles count as “old rock”?

What was your character like in high school? Did they hang with a certain clique? At that age, would they have been disappointed in who your character has grown up to be?

[ooc answer] Thea was a fairly typical teenager. She played soccer and was one of the best on the team; she had hoped for a scholarship, but the accident kind of ruined the whole thing. She had one close friend, Eve, they were inseparable, but even with Eve she never could be completely herself. Secrecy was what kept the pack safe, even pups knew that.Thea is less than a year out of high school, so I’m not sure if she could really be that disappointed or happy with who she is. She does miss soccer and being part of a team, a pack of sorts, but she is slowly adjusting to this new life where her wolf is truly part of who she is.

How connected does your character feel with their heritage? How do they express this? Why do they feel this way?

(OOC Response) Thea was raised in a pack, but she was always a child there. Protected by it and taught by the members, but never a full member. No one joins the pack fully until they are at least 18, and old enough to make the choice. For Thea, that was always an inevitability, but with the trauma of her first unplanned change, and the refusal to embrace her wolf, she was unable to join the pack as an adult. Still Thea struggles with the loneliness of a pack-less existence, even if she won’t admit it. She has spent her whole life as part of a family, a team, even a partnership with the wolf inside her in her own way, but now she is all alone (or so she feels).

“Yeah, a bit,” Erin said. She was getting less and less new all the time though. “But there’s new people in Sumner like every week, so you can’t stay new for long around here.” She nodded at the name. “Alithea is so pretty though why shorten it?”

Thea nodded in agreement at the sentiment. She still felt new and often out of place, but she was starting to settle in. She still missed home and her friends and family, but this was where she was and where she needed to be, she knew that. “Uh.” She opened her mouth to reply that it was an obnoxiously pretentious name, as she had every time a teacher asked her the same question, but then realized she didn’t really believe that anymore. Now it was just habit more than anything, so she went for the more flippant answer. “Honestly, Alithea is a bit long and cumbersome to yell across the soccer pitch, so it became Thea, and it stuck.” She shrugged. “It’s just more me I guess.” 

Thea lifted her mug to her lips and sipped then took another deep breath of fresh air. The dirt, the leaves, the growth and decay of the woods, the coffee and her companions scent, unfamiliar but definitely wolf. “I forgot how much I could learn in one breath. She nodded in the other woman’s direction, “How did you handle the whole losing your wolf thing? Any side-effects?”

“Oh, black is fine,” Erin said and she took the mug full of hot coffee, and started to sip at it. “I mean if the coffee is good it doesn’t need creamer.” The coffee wasn’t that good, but she had been spoiled lately on fancy kopi luwak. That wasn’t Thea’s fault. “What’s your name?”

Thea nodded when Erin took the mug and set the creamer to the side. Personally, she preferred a little creamer to offset the natural bitterness she found in coffee, but her father always took his coffee black, so to each their own. She stared off into the woods and sighed, noticing the lingering smell of trash was finally starting to fade. “Oh! Sorry, I’m Thea, Alithea really, but Thea for short. Are you new to Sumner?”

[ TEXT ]: yeah, the human senses were super weird. I’m a security guard, so I was worried I wouldn’t do my job right. :/ 

[ TEXT ]: I had some fun times. Like it was interesting to feel drunk. I had never really experienced it before. Now I know it’s not worth it. Those hangovers are painful. 

[ TEXT ]: Yeah I think I’ll try that. It will be annoying but probably less than hearing every single noise around me haha.

[Text]: Oh! I could see how that could be an issue. You definitely need to be in top form to be in security. Are there really places that need it around her now, though? I guess, I figure, without that Master weirdo and his minions things are pretty safe here.

[Text]: Drinking... Hmmm... I didn’t even think to try that. LoL I’m guessing you threw up plenty of times from what I saw of some of the guys in High School.

Thea looked across at the other girl, she didn’t recognize her, but that wasn’t completely odd considering she wasn’t the most social girl in town. Regardless, she felt more herself today than she had in a year. She never would have thought it would take losing her wolf to understand how much she relied on its presence. “Hey, morning.” She called back, and then took a deep breath to try and catch the other girls scent. Unfortunately, the distance and wind weren’t in her favor. She shrugged it off and leaned against her porch railing smiling, “How are you? I’m Thea. Care for some coffee?”

Erin smiled wide as if Thea had just said the magic word. “Coffee! Of course!” she called and then glanced along the street for traffic before crossing it. “I’m Erin,” she said as she finally reached the other woman. She stuck out her hand to shake it. ”I don’t think we’ve met.”

Thea nodded when the other woman accepted her offer of coffee. “Give me a sec to grab another mug.” She hurried back into her dorm, it still felt odd to call the cabin that considering it was so different from what she had imagined during High School.

After a moment she returned with the coffee in one hand and a bottle of vanilla creamer in the other. "Hope you like vanilla, it's all I have." She held it out and the mug out to Erin.

[Text]: Enjoy it? Maybe, I guess at first, but then all the side-effects sort of set in. I never realized how much I used my nose and ears until it felt like they were full of cotton.

[Text]: How about you? Was any part of it pleasant? Ok, wrong word, but you know what I mean.

[Text]: Maybe you should try earbuds or earplugs for a few days to muffle some of the sound?

Thea would have never thought the lack of her wolf sides constant nagging and growling would bother her. In fact, she had thought it would be a relief, but with the reality of its silence also leaving her with normal hearing, smell, speed and all the other innately human flaws she was terrified what to think if it never returned.

With that in mind, it had been a relief to wake-up to the rancid smell of her garbage can overwhelming her to the point of wanting to puke, “Oh gods!” She gagged, and rushed out of bed, grabbing the offensive thing and running outside to dump it in the dumpster. Returning to her dorm she swallowed bile as she realized the smell was still powerful and began throwing every window available open to try and clear out the smell. 

Having made a fresh pot of coffee, all while holding her breath as much as she could and only breathing through her mouth when necessary, she went out on her porch. Thea took deep breaths trying to clear her nostrils, “How the hell did I not smell that for the last week?” She took another deep breath of the pine and dirt infused air before sitting on the banister of the porch. A sip of the coffee helped to clear more of the remnants of decay from her senses and she relaxed a bit more. Then she gasped, “You’re back!” Her wolf was back! She laughed with a surprising amount of relief as she felt the wolf stretch in her mind. “I’m back.”

[ TEXT ]: I really missed the magic in town. Being human is super boring. [ TEXT ]: Though I’m not sure what’s up with my hearing but it’s been a little bit fucked up since things are back to ‘normal’. Like I can hear the neighbours banging next door and I’m not sure if I should tell them?

[Text]: I know what you mean. It’s strange, but I don’t like the idea of not having my wolf side constantly nagging to be let out... Maybe I can try transforming this full moon.

[Text]: That’s disgusting. Maybe you SHOULD say something; at least until your over-sensitivity wears off.

Mark shot her a questioning look, “You’re supposed to offer to accompany people? Why is that?” She was small and seemed untrained, so he doubted she was protecting others from those who might do harm. Maybe for her own protection? She was a student at the academy. Mark had seen her walk the the halls from class to class. He always kept an eye on the other wolves at the school to make sure they were doing okay. It was hard enough being a werewolf, but being one and a student was challenging.

Regardless of what he thought Mark started toward the coffee shop. He saw her cheeks flush from what he thought might have been embarrassment. That was not his intention if that was the case. Maybe walking would ease the awkward interaction.

Thea hesitated, unsure how to answer his question without sounding like a complete dork and finally just shrugged. “Uh, you know the whole, safety in numbers concept?” She smiled up at him, she knew she didn’t look much like an effective fighter; and truth be told, she probably wasn’t the best choice, but the hope was that by being in a group they would avoid the need for a fight.

She decided to try and change the subject after a moment of silence, feeling a bit awkward. “You look a little familiar. Do I know you from somewhere?”

[text]: Grew up in Sumner? No! I grew up in Canada. I’m here for school and stuff. I’ve never been to Santa Cruz, where is that? I’m guessing near the beach due to the “surfable” comment.

Under the Moon -Thea and Sloan

“Oh it was weak,” Sloan replied, a soft smile accompanying heavily hooded eyes. There was the slightest hint of a challenge, but not one that she intended on following through. It had been many years since Sloan kicked around a soccer ball, and while she was sure that she could evenly match with a wolf, she wasn’t too keen on playing anytime soon. “I know I can do better…” she replied, this time with a bit less gumption as the ball was extended to her, “I played soccer through high school but, uh, don’t play anymore.” The ball hung, a dare left unanswered; Sloan considered taking it but was not entirely convinced.

Thea figured her grin had suddenly turned very wolfish, but she couldn’t be certain. She had the other woman backed into a corner and she could almost smell the blood of victory, she stopped herself mid thought and nearly shook her head to clear out that strange train of thinking. She seriously needed to figure out some way to stop the wolves weird tendency of invading her thoughts.

Then again, she was actually in agreement with that side of herself for once. This other girl needed to prove her challenge if she was going to make one; Thea let the grin slip back into place. “Where I come from challenging another wolf and not backing it up was a sure way to get nipped or worse; the soccer field was much the same. Nothing to be gained from empty boasts besides having your ego bruised, not to mention a few others to match.” She pushed the ball a bit more forward. “Scared you don’t still have it?”

Thea had no idea why she was feeling so confrontational, but it felt good to challenge someone; to have a game of some sort to sink her teeth into. Life had been too solitary and tediously monotonous as of late.

Another wolf. “The coffee shop is three blocks down on the left then another two blocks.” he paused before adding, “Can’t you smell the aroma?” This puzzled him. She seemed young, but maybe untrained. Even so the wolf should have been able to smell the scent of coffee. Was she sick? She looked fine. Maybe she wasn’t as ‘strong’ as him. Although the full moon was nearing. This girl left him very confused. “Do you want me to walk with you?” Mark was always gentleman even when it might not have been the best idea. “I could use a cup myself.” Mark looked towards were the shop would be. It was a brisk walk nothing too bad. He could be back to the station in a short while.

Thea blushed at the comment about her sense of smell, she had always tried her best to ignore the strengthened abilities as much as she could when growing up. A girl randomly sniffing the air, or knowing what was said over a distance, was definitely viewed as weird in the normal world. However, since coming to Sumner she had allowed these abilities to grow a bit; just because she wasn’t willing to transform didn’t mean she couldn’t enjoy some of the bonuses of being a wolf. 

She sniffed the air tentatively and under the other smells that were definitely more defined here she found the hint of coffee and baked goods. “Yeah... I uh... Didn’t really think to use my nose.” She shrugged feeling her embarrassment grow until he offered to join her. For a moment she thought to evade the offer, but then realized she had no reason not to accept his company, especially since none of them should really be anywhere alone with what was going on currently. “Sure. If you were planning on going, I don’t want to intrude. I’m supposed to offer to accompany people, so no one is walking alone anyway.”

Under the Moon -Thea and Sloan

“Oh sure,” Sloan threw her hands up into the air in an exasperated manner, “You wolves get all the good media representation. You get hunky teenaged boys and television shows and movie trilogies. And us gargoyles get background characters in a Disney movie.” Her tone was sharp but held the edge of laughter as she watched for Thea’s reaction. If that didn’t give away her teasing, the smile on Sloan’s face did. “Stop apologizing, girl. And yeah, you could use that movie as a point of reference if you’d like to, but I’d make a better one if you had questions. Doesn’t hurt me one bit, just like your weak ass kick.”

Sloan followed Thea’s glance up to the sky, and the nearly full moon. It wasn’t something that she lived and died by as werewolves did, but it was something to keep track of when living in Sumner. Nearly all wolves got edgy at this time and that was important to know to someone who sold drugs that could benefit or worsen their mood. She did her best to avoid selling uppers to any wolves the week of the full moon, and most were smart enough to not ask.

Thea had begun to feel a little bad for the remark about the Disney film, but that quickly faded as she noticed the amusement radiating off of Sloan. Well, that and the comment about her kick being weak. “That kick wasn’t weak. Far from it!” She shifted so the ball rested under one of her arms a small smirk playing across her lips as she studied the other woman. Even holding back she had always had a kick that made most goalies groan if they managed to block it.

“Think you can do better?” She held out the ball after a moments hesitation. “I’m not sure if gargoyles play soccer, but you’re welcome to give it a try.”
