a bra and a hijab are the same thing in many ways
Hijab is not much different from many different hair coverings which used to be extremely common throughout the world. All of those had their own religious connections with them. Hair coverings were often a tool of both religion and "modesty", the loaded gendered concept. Nowadays it's most commonly associated with Islam therefore it strikes out as Abnormal. A bra too serves the same purpose, yet its considered the "acceptable" tool of Modesty with no loaded baggage whatsoever while Hijab is the "backwards" tool of modesty with Evil Baggage. The same concept, when it's Muslim racialized, is Backwards and Violent, yet the violence of the bra, because it is accepted among White people too, is acceptable and invisible
Can you imagine if tomorrow wearing a bra was seen as completely backwards, but nothing else changed socially for women, yet the new policy was to force women to take their bras off in public? What, that sounds like the wrong way to go about it to you because it would be humiliating and misogynistic? Now lets apply that humanity to other people's cultures
Because head coverings are frequently racialized and discriminated against, within the context of its discrimination it isn't harmful to point out its practical uses. But people. Wearing a bra is not globally discriminated and racialized. You do not have to white knight the bra. That isn't the what you're supposed to understand from this post
The KIDS act (which contains KOSA) passed the US house, so I would recommend calling your senators and telling them to vote in opposition. I don't think I need to stress the importance of being able to use the internet freely and without privacy barriers being breached.
There are many scripts online you can follow, many ways to tweak your message to fit your senator (ESPECIALLY if they are up for reelection this year). Whether it's a recording you reach or a real person, be straightforward, don't argue, just let your rep know that you are a constituent and you oppose the KIDS act, etc.
Here is where you can search for your senator... call, email, fax, bring them physical letters, show up in person to their offices if you are able.
Okay maybe I just totally missed something in season 2 but I thought Armand turned Daniel in the penthouse right after Louis left?? But then this episode they're saying Armand turned him on the plane back to the US? Like ig it's not that important give the everythingTM going on in thus episode but I'm confused
i think the key difference between george lucasβs star wars and disneyβs star wars is that lucas is a man with an ideology. someone with a point of view, and all that entails. which comes with ideas of revolution, anti-imperialism, challenging the status quo, cultural appropriation and racist stereotypes. complex and contradictory ideas because thatβs how artists are: complex and complicated people. disney is not. disney is a corporation. a corporation canβt have ideology, because ideology defeats the purpose of profit. and when the only thing you do is to turn on the movie manufacturing machine before you sit down and plan what ideas are you trying to convey to the audience, then your results are going to be washed out corporate garbage. and because when youβre a giant corporation who only cares about selling to the widest audience possible, you canβt take sides. you canβt decide on an idea. because you want to sell your product to people who are on the entire political spectrum. which results in movies without ideology, without purpose, without soul.
I have been looking for this post for years after I came across it and itβs finally here and I need to reblog this because it is absolutely and entirely accurate.
#as I always say: lucas was making a samurai film and a ww2 flying ace film and a western film and adding laser swords#because he fundamentally LIKED samurai films and dambusters films and westerns and 40βs adventure serials#but disney are making a βstar wars filmβ and adding nothing because it already had laser swords and they have nothing else to say#xerox of a xerox baybeeeee (via harrietvane)
C-3PO makes me laugh because you have to remember he was assembled by a child out of things from a scrap heap. Everything about him makes sense if you bear that in mind. Anakin wanted a droid who could help his mother, but the only AI package he could find was one somebody threw out for being too fussy. The combination of tweaking to give him a worried/caring personality makes him constantly anxious. A protocol droid comes with a fair amount of language packages, but why stop there? Somebody threw out like, three different galactic language dictionaries because they werenβt the recent edition. Just load βem all up. all of them, even the packs that contain things like ewok and a thousand variants of different manufacturersβ droid codecs. donβt add half the other requirements most legal protocol droids have included at the factory like emergency wipe protocols or shutdown failsafes, or programmed obsolescence. Build that sucker out of non-commercial materials that are already over a hundred years old and still good, tweak it to withstand tatooine of all places.
so now you have this droid that is over thirty years old and it could never be obsolete because it was never manufactured by anybody but a kid on a sand ball somewhere, itβs never running down because it was built to last on tatooine and thereβs nothing programmed in to try and urge you to buy the latest model because there is no latest model. 3P0 is simultaneously totally useless yet hyper functional because he was not made according to any specs except βthe best most toughest things possible to help my mom for a long long time on a hot desert planetβ

happy birthday gerard <333
Happy 49th birthday to the girl/guy/singer/ghost/cheerleader/writer/parent/nurse/artist/creature/dancer who said you really CAN have it all.
there once was a princess named gerard
okay so I'm having a debate with my flatmates
are these all different things and if so what do you call them
#1 is a hoodie. No doubt about it. Zip is there, hood is there. It is a hoodie.
#2 is where we start to question a little bit. But the answer remains the same. That is a hoodie.
#3 is not difficult at all. That is a jumper. NOT A SWEATER. A sweater is not ugly unless it is a christmas sweater that is intended to be ugly. That third one is a jumper (or a pullover if you want to be different).
am i correct
yes
double yes
no (put your answer in replies)
vanilla extract/results
βIn other words, keep your bad vibes out of my cornflakes. Iβm not interested.Β β
