enemies to lovers: the romance is the subplot, there is a bigger issue and the two characters are at the head of the issue, neither of them are the secondary villain or the side kick, they are THE problem. They disagree on this big issue and are active in the problem.

rivals to lovers: they are on seperate sides of the issue, think Romeo and Juliet, neither of them are encouraging the fighting but they are not on the same side. It's when they are being pitted against each other but not necessarily because they want to be

hate to love: it's PERSONAL. they don't like each other, something happened in the past, they have wronged each other, but they have to hang out and get to know each other to even start the 'lovers' part. they are the ones pitting themselves against each other.

you can have multiple, a good enemies to lovers with have all three, you can have one or two, but they are all seperate.
