A slight frown formed on her expression, she didn’t like to see him worried about her (she told herself that it was a matter of being independent but deep inside partly is that she loathed the idea of being the source of his worries, to cause him pain). “But I am feeling fine! And there is too much to be done for me to just stay here!” replied immediately Snow, eager as always to jump back into her duties. She pressed her lips together after her outburst torn between what she had to do and the knowledge of that Swineheart was the expert thus the one that she was supposed to listen to.
“I am fully aware of that but if we want to build a community with a good base we need to follow the rules and judge him accordingly; don’t you think that I want justice too? Do you think that I have forgotten what’s to see my beheaded body on a examination table? No, but things have to be done in a certain way”
She hesitated torn between being annoyed and touched by his concern “I promise; return him in one piece and I won’t do that again” Snow rarely lied and she meant to keep her promise, hoping that Bigby would do the same.
“And Bigby when you go to get him…be careful alright? Just…” a memory flashed before her eyes; Mary, his blood, and almost suffocating fear “Please…”
It’s true, if he was laying on a hospital bed he would act as petty as she was, if not, WORST. When he was shot, instead of going to the hospital, he made sure that Snow takes him to his apartment, instead, as people of Fabletown mostly doesn’t enjoy his presence and he hates the scent of chloroform of such environment. Plus, he would never allow himself to stay out of the game, even if badly injured. So he understood her feelings, he damn knew what it was like to stay out of the problem solving however, he also knew that differently of him, Snow had some self-preservation standards and she wouldn’t allow pride to stay between her and her recovery if he knew her well.
❝ You don’t have to lecture me about my job, I always do what’s need to be done to keep the integrity and safety of the community. ❞ He raises an eyebrow, staring at her and feeling the lack of a cigarette in his mouth, as now he can smell he, completely. As much it’s a scent he appreciates, it’s one that can drive him mad and completely out of his damn rational mind, especially when it comes to her safety. Although, he tries not to show it and after hundreds of years, he’s got at hiding things. Especially, hiding actions he has to make in order to keep the city safe, things that not even Snow herself knows about. ❝ And I won’t do anything that YOU wouldn’t do to keep Fabletown’s stability, alright? I KNOW WHAT I’M DOING, SNOW. ❞ An animal? Yes. But he was never irrational and he wouldn’t start that now.
However, when her voice turns soft and broken when her eyes meet his, the wolf lets his gaze melt for a second. He looks at his bare hands, the lack of holding the cigarette very present, the absence of the drug to an addicted. He sighs so low it’s impossible to hear and gazes her again, now, softer. ❝ Don’t worry, I can do the job. ❞ Now that he knows she’s awake, that she’s getting better, he feels the urge to end what they’ve done. What they’re doing with Fabletown, With Faith. Lily. Nerissa. Snow. Cowards must pay for their actions and the wolf is howling inside his chest. ❝ I must go, now, and you shall rest to get better before we close the case, ‘cause I need you beside me once I catch those bastards. ❞
