rip your pads loudly and fix your bras in public to assert dominance ladies
believe it or not this is the first time i’ve ever had any social media, and i find that i do not completely detest it. Perhaps that’s because tumblr feels like this forgotten forest on the internet and this account feels much like a secluded little cave with my existence and the world to behold, it’s like my small little corner of the web yk?
Maybe someone’ll come across what i write and what i put out here, but i’d wager it wouldn’t come without a whole lotta digin for it first. for the most part it feels like i’m talking to myself, like i’m writing not quite for an audience but for the hell of it. i’m often not sure with my writing if i have a point to make, but here it feels like the point is that i’m writing in the first place.
it’s helped me sort out my head, figure out how i feel about things, about books i’ve read. what is it that i love in the writing? did the book really stay with me or am i trippin and i feel like it did because everyone else said it stayed with them too.
So i still have some trouble putting my thoughts and feelings into articulate words but what the hell right, i’m writing this entire thing as i’m thinking about it and not really thinking too much about it. I suppose i’ll wake up and perhaps come back and delete this post because of how personal this whole thing feels and my whole deal with social media.
I don’t really know what i want. But writing seems to help me figure it out. I’ll try to write more i think, about anything and everything but i suppose it won’t last too long, i’m too lazy to write. this is statting to feel like that book title i wanna die but i wanna eat tteotbokki lol.
|| easy to read book recommendations because reading all these books on a screen is making my scroll finger hurt and giving me headaches. It really do be that damn phone ||
So, a lot of these books i finished in one sitting or not more than 2-3 sittings which just meant i wasn’t moving for a pretty long time. And all of these books/series for one reason or the other were a breath of fresh air and honestly sometimes switching things up or straying from your normal genres just makes the book that much more fun to read.
|| Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros ||
a booktok beloved, this book has it all - dragons, hogwarts style factions, the peril of living in a war-torn kingdom, a headstrong, relentless female protagonist and a dreamy mcdreamboat love interest who’s name starts with an x. Full disclosure i haven’t read fourth wing itself but i have seen a 3 hour stephanie soo breakdown of the book and then read book #2 (iron flame) and book #3 (onyx storm) in quick succession and subsequently entered a book depression because it’s an unfinished series and we don’t have a due date for book #4. Yarros’ world was intense, fast paced and wholly plot centered as opposed to a character being in their feels and the author writing 300 pages about it (looking at you dostoevsky), and after a while of reading books with no plot just vibes✨the world of fourth wing was such a fun, fast read.
|| King of Sins series by Ana Huang ||
i cannot talk about these books without giggling or keeping a smile off my face. Hand on my heart and gun to my head ask me to admit that i’ve read anything Ana Huang and you’d have better luck pulling the trigger than getting me to open my mouth, like the FBI couldn’t waterboard this information out of me BUT THESE BOOKS ARE SUCH A GUILTY PLEASUREE. If you guys remember those cheesy mafia/ceo/werewolf/(whatever brand of badboy you’re into) we used to read on wattpad when we were like 13, these books are exactly that. They’re so fun, so cliche, such page-turners, like an easy breezy one day reads, simply sinful.
|| The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett ||
This book diverges the most from the other books i’ve recommended, but it’s enjoyable in it’s own right i’d say. It’s not a fantasy you can lose yourself in not in the strictest sense anyway, it’s not a sweeping romance, it’s not a dystopia post 50 something years from now, i feel like the appeal to this book lies in its mundanity. I read this book when i was in secondary 1 (7th grade) and at the time i was reading the Illiad by Homer which is this epic of greek mythology and i just needed a break from all the gods and demi gods and all the arbitrary chaos they caused just cause they felt like it. Interestingly enough the friend i borrowed The Secret Garden from thought it was mind-numbingly boring and wanted to read something more exciting so we exchanged books and it worked out for both of us!
Coming back from my mile long de-tour, The Secret Garden is mundane and ordinary in all the right places and just fantastical enough when it needs to be, it can be summed up as a couple of young kids and an ailing man discovering the wonder in life again.
|| The Young Elites series by Marie Lu ||
Yet another series that’s drastically different from the last, you see a theme yet? One of Marie Lu’s lesser known works as compared to Legendborn (a booktok beloved series), and i read this book based on one singular review : a book written from the villain’s perspective. AND DID THAT DESCRIPTION NOT EAT??? DID THIS BOOK NOT EAT?????
loved the headspace of the main character, it’s dark and she embraces it fully, and equally as interesting are the other characters and the powers they have. This series has a pretty unique take on a pretty classic trope of a sickness sweeping through the lands and anyone who survives is left with superpowers.
That’s it for today, my scroll finger still hurts and my headache is exactly where it was, i’ve spent way too long rambling in these reviews but oh well. see yall next time besties, toodles!
big ups to gordon ramsay, you would’ve loved me
Chronicles of a teenage girl:
Today I donated blood w my bestie , hope it goes to some O positive baddie
|| The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint-Exupery ||
4.5 stars
MAMA LOOK A GIRL BEHIND YOU
now that i have your attention, maybe you can spend a minute reading my book review so i can get marks on my assignment teehee
The Little Prince is a book that has stuck with me for a very long time now, and i’d wager it will continue to stick with me for a very long time, even longer than it will take me to forget nicki minaj’s rap verse in Beauty and a Beat ( i got a 53 in a math test cause i spent my entire evening memorising the lyrics)
The book’s themes center around ‘if you can’t fix the world, you leave it’ and i relate with that heavily because atleast for me books are a way to escape wherever you are without actually going anywhere.
I truly think with romantasy and hot mc’s who’s names start with a x or z taking over the world, the little prince will be like a breath of fresh air, it makes you think (no like actually on god it makes you introspect) and somewhere in the clouds of questions and forgotten dreams it leaves you, you either end up seeing what really matters or you stumble upon some answers you never thought you’d find, atleast i did. and like the book says ‘what’s essential is invisible to the eye’
why i think you should read it?
1) when’s the last time you read a children’s book? didn’t you know if your whimsy levels get too low you die??
2) how about we leave the stoicism to the finance bros and read a book that’s not ‘how to win friends and influence people’ once in a while
3) if you are a finance bro, say this with me through your clenched teeth ‘i love being out of my comfort zone, it is necessary for my personal development’
4) completely unrelated but after reading this book i got a ring engraved with the storyline of the plot (we are at engraved jewelery levels people)
5) i double dog dare you to read it
anyway i forgot the point i was trying to make but reading is sexy so lock in diva. hot girls read books.
consider this : camp but with bejewelled cowboy hats and knee high boots
anyway, i think the world needs more cowgirls, wouldn’t you say?
|| No longer human - Osamu Dazai ||
3 stars
I don’t know where to start and where to end with this book, THE MC SHOULD OFF HIMSELF OMFG !!! If I were to even attempt to put my emotions into legible words with regards to this book I fear I’d fail gravely. It’s a ride but the ride is Dante taking us down the seven circles of hell.
It’s a narrative voice you’ve never heard before like fr, the author feels like he’s wholly disconnected from humanity and thus humans themselves, he quite literally does not feel like he’s one of us so there’s an overarching them vs me narrative.
Yozo (the mc) as well is what I’d envision the psyche and inner workings of sociopaths and psychopaths would be like or lack thereof, the whole book is hinged on the fact that he has an innability to feel emotions much less express them so he goes through his life pretending that he has them and somehow lives in that subliminal space, we got to see behind his farce of being a human and his real personality alike.
To be sure, the book does read very while, it does themes of despair, dread, hopelessness and adjacent emotions really really well, so don’t take my word for it.
read it yourself girl!
Being hot is a mentality babe, read. especially the things that make you uncomfortable.
the daily musings from a girl’s digital diary because it’s me and my lipgloss against the world.
