Let me talk about me, I’m the G to the D bitch | G-Dragon for memoriestomelodies ♥
G-Dragon. The single most odd performer I have yet to encounter. But also surprisingly entertaining. South Korea definitely didn’t know what they were getting themselves into by making this guy famous. My life has definitely been impacted by his insanity.
I LOVED THIS MOVIE. Disney and Marvel together was too amazing. The cultural ties between San Francisco and Tokyo were perfect and the plot line was heart-warming. Overall, I have never been so happy to watch a movie in-class.
In-Class Culture Presentation
A couple of weeks ago, when the guest came into class, I really enjoyed the insight I received from her presentation. She talked about how it felt going to school in America and it definitely opened my eyes to how minorities are treated. She said that people often treated her badly because her English was not very good. This has seriously changed the way I treat people from other places that struggle with English.
An old Japanese legend said that anyone who folds a thousand paper cranes so pleases the gods, the folder is granted a wish
When I was in third grade my class read the book 1000 Paper Cranes. It tells the story of a sick child and her friend attempting to get her a wish like the paper crane legend says. The book was heartbreaking and very touching. Definitely would recommend.
Last month, historians in the Inner Mongolian city of Hohhot overheard a couple of people singing a weird old song:
From south to north I carry the tea
Ten thousand miles it is to be
I hire a porter on Mount Wuyi
In Chong'an County we put it on ships
The song goes on to describe the entire 5000 kilometer camel route for carrying tea from China, through Mongolia, all the way to Kyakhta in Russia. The song is believed to have been passed down from people who worked for Dashengkui, a Chinese tea-trading company active in the 1600s, and fills in previously unknown details about the route Dashengkui’s mechants took.
Sadly, none of the news stories I found contain a recording of the tea map song.
Pictured: the Mongolian method of making tea with milk. The tea is scooped up into the air and poured back into the pot to stir it and improve the flavor. Everyone in Mongolia seems to own the exact same blue plastic tea scoop.
This is amazing to me that songs with this much historical significance are still being passed down. Thats a great thing that Chinese culture encompasses.
Last week in class, when we had the guest speaker, I loved learning about Japanese culture. I also loved learning how to make origami swans and bunnies. I had a blast!
Running Man
After starting part one of this show in class I really was not sure how to feel. I didn’t really understand the objective of it, the people in it were strange, and the subtitles were confusing and messy. As the class went on I slowly began learning more about all these things and even found myself laughing along here and there. Then, when I watched part two in my room, it really began to make sense. The characters goofy attitudes had me laughing constantly and I even began to find the subtitles humorous. At one point my roommates came in to see what I was doing and, after explaining the show in detail, they began to watch with me as well! They even found it more humorous than I did at times! I don’t think this is a show I will watch all too often, but it was an enjoyable “dark bargain” assignment.
To give some explanation, The Running Man is a South Korean variety game show. The Running Man crew consists of Song Ji-hyo, Kim Jong-kook, Haha, Gary, Lee Kwang-soo, Yoo Jae-sukm, and Ji Suk-jin. Each episode contains different challenges, games, and events that the running men have to complete. Sometimes there are even special guests that the running men compete against. This episode had Big Bang as the special guest. Big Bang is a Korean boy band that consists of G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung, and Seungri. The show began with both sides of the competition joking around with each other. You could tell that the rest of the episode was going to be full of pranks and jokes because of how funny the cast was. The beginning of the show also set the scene for how dramatic the producers create the video and graphics to be.
The game in these episodes was basically a large hide-and-go seek game but with a few different rules. In the first half Running Man players chased around Big Bang players in order to rip off their name tags. If your nametag was ripped off then you were out of the game. While the Running Man players were trying to find them the Big Bang players had to find a certain number of Running Man lottery tickets. Unfortunately, the Running Man team won in the first half! In the second half, the game was basically the same except instead of the battleground being a museum it was now a tall office building. Also, there were working people in the office building and the players had to interact with them to obtain to things they needed. In the end, Big Bang won round two and a tiebreaker was created. A member from each team had to go against each other and whoever ripped of the others nametag first won. Big Bang won the tiebreaker and the entire game.
Although, in the beginning I was skeptical, the show turned out to be not as strange as I thought. I am actually decently pleased with the show, the humor used, and the creativeness of it all.

This is a very interesting article about North and South Korea, the DMZ, and the the 38th parallel. Learning about this in history class and now seeing pictures and reading about a first hand experience is very interesting.
Candy sushi (fruit roll ups, rice crispy treat, and swedish fish)
I’m not a fan of fish, at all. So when someone offered me “candy sushi” my first response was HECK. NO. But as I took a closer look I realized it was my favorite things all in one. Fruit roll up, rice crispy treat, and swedish fish. This is basically a picky American child’s heaven.
